Welcome to #Millennial, the home of pretend adulting and real talk! Biden and Trump are each rolling out strategies to appeal to younger voters and... this is one of the results.  What can major party candidates do to reach out to younger voters without being cringe? Maybe ask Chat GPT for ideas. Biden leaning into Dark Brandon conspiracy theories? Yes please! Biden answering complicated geopolitical questions while clutching an ice cream cone? Nooooo. It's time for the hosts to reveal their monthly and yearly spends in the era of streaming wars when the average U.S. consumer is spending nearly $1k a year on streaming services. How do we stack up? Inflation relief may be coming soon to your favorite fast food joint or snack company: McDonald's, PepsiCo, and Coca Cola have all announced plans to slow their roll on price increases, and even cut some prices altogether. Wendy is trying to fuck around and find out with dynamic pricing. Who's gonna wanna pay surge prices for a square hamburger?? Watch out for increased costs to check baggage - American Airlines just announced theirs, and we suspect other airlines will soon follow. This week's recommendations will keep you organized and entertained: Clipa bag hanger (Pam), TooGoodToGo (Laura), and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (Andrew).  And in this week's installment of After Dark, available on Patreon: MuggleSuck, Twilight Source and Hypable edition! Because we've worked with lots of muggles who suck. Persistent resistance to new ideas, walls of text sent at all hours of the night, and entitlement are a few of the things we've dealt with in our heyday as fandom creators. "How old is this person??" Welcome to #Millennial, the home of pretend adulting and real talk! Laura is off, but she'll be back next week! In her absence, Andrew and Pam welcome their friend (and former Hypable staffer!) Tariq Ra'ouf, to the show! You can find Tariq online at Twitter and Instagram. It looks like the Writer's Strike has officially come to an end! We react to the news at the WGA has reached a tentative deal with the AMPTP Pam fills us in on what happens next now that picketing has stopped, and Andrew details some of what fans can expect after writers in Hollywood resume work. It's a pop culture palooza this week! To kick things off, we dive into the rise in popularity of universities offering courses on some of today's biggest pop stars. Is teaching classes on Taylor Swift and Beyonce a smart tactic in getting students excited to learn, or is it all just good PR for the universities greenlighting these classes? Is there space in the classroom for pop culture? We definitely think so! As our discussion on cool college courses comes to a close, Andrew and Tariq get vulnerable as they discuss dropping out of university. Check out Professor Julian Wamble on TikTok, who teaches a Harry Potter course! ‘Fourth Wing' fans, rejoice! Your excitement over our recent recommendations of the Rebecca Yarros written novel didn't go unnoticed! To wrap up the show, we host a little spoiler free book club dedicated to this year's hottest fantasy read! We talk about what it is that sucked us into the book and kept us reading. Pam and Andrew have some fun recounting the spicy plot point they didn't see coming. ‘Fourth Wing' sequel, ‘Iron Flame,' is coming out this November— will any of us be heading out to Barnes & Noble's planned midnight release parties for the book? We take the opportunity to reminisce a bit on all the midnight release parties we attended growing up. This week's recommendations: ‘Crying In H Mart' by Michelle Zauner (Pam), WaterPiks (Andrew), and recording artists Jungle and Whethan (Tariq). And in this week's installment of After Dark, available on Patreon and Apple Podcasts: WTF news is back! Tariq joins us as Andrew shares a carefully curated list of news stories centered on the overarching theme of “butts.” This time around we're trying something new: ending this latest installment of WTF news on a high note with some cute news! The Matrix: Resurrections pulls the ReWatchable panel back into the fold for one last ride with the original crew. Although everything seems slightly the same, this meta retelling of the series offers something new for everyone. Leaning into the film took a bit of effort at the start, but the film still laid the groundwork for another discussion of the larger themes of the piece from Lana Wachowski. Join us as we ask the big questions, such as: Did this movie need to be made? Did we enjoy it? Did Keanu make another joke?! Fun Facts Natalie's hair cannot get short enough, Karen has a car (and a lot of additional responsibility), and Kendra literally entered the Mirrorverse with Spider-Man. As a reminder: we are no longer found on Hypable – we are now on Subjectify Media! Read all about it in our relaunch article: Reintroducing ReWatchable: And our next round is… – Subjectify Media Overall impressions Did this movie need to be made? Kendra's Kontemplations from the movie theater seat Keanu's did not make a joke (Brittany determines this while writing the show notes) Let's discuss the motive behind making this movie Did this movie serve every audience member? Yes, update those CGI graphics!! There is a new The One, what do we think of our lead? Everyone finally has a sensible Matrix outfit Neo is removed from the Matrix and it takes a bit for us to get into the film and sort out what exactly is going on Meta seems like a bad descriptor (thanks, Zuckerberg), but we did enjoy bits of the meta of it all Sense8 is all over the place, stay tuned for us to point them out Welcome Jonathan Groff (we love you so much) What did we think of the changes in Agent Smith here? We don't know the whole story about bringing back Morpheus 1.0, but we like Morpheus 2.0  The Choice is there, but is it really?  Tweaking the code got rid of some of the elements that were bothersome from the original trilogy Following the White Rabbit Going from a phone call to Zoom – an excellent description of the Matrix upgrade Ladies and gentleman, Neo Unplugged Meet a new generation of characters We're going back to Io “You never appreciated our relationship” The biggest question: Is this a love story? At the heart of the story is Trinity, is that a good thing? Would you prefer to be in the pod? (Not this pod because the answer is obviously, yes) Unlike this episode, the movie has some after credits scenes This episode's panel included all superfans: Karen Rought, Kendra Cleary, Natalie Fisher, and one panelist who saw it but didn't show up: Brittany Lovely. The ReWatchable crew enters the Matrix one more time to finish out the original trilogy with a discussion covering whether or not this is a love story, determining who is entitled to eat the cookies, and consider where the next movie may take audiences. This Matrix Revolutions panel is a modge-podge one superfan and several sort of newbies who tackle the biggest questions the series has to offer humanity, including: is this movie the only time Keanu Reeves has made a joke? Join us as we navigate one last trip into the Matrix as we know it and prepare for what The Matrix: Resurrections has to offer! Fun Facts As a reminder: we are no longer found on Hypable – we are now on Subjectify Media! Read all about it in our relaunch article: Reintroducing ReWatchable: And our next round is… – Subjectify Media Spotify Wrapped is here (much to Natalie's dismay) and not everyone on the panel listened to Taylor Swift! The Matrix Revolutions The movie dives right into the thick of it but not action-wise, the characters take center stage Volume was a major issue for home viewing, perhaps due to its IMAX release With the balance of jumping between character moments, did we lose a lot of Neo in this film after sticking very close to him in the past 2 films? Which direction is the train going? And are the passengers running toward reality or away from it? The machines aren't who we thought they were A moment to acknowledge how great Keanu looks at this moment — and in the PRESENT The Oracle is replaced due to a real life death, however the plot gives a lot to chew on with a vessel changing as a result of a choice made in the Matrix Imagine being programmed to live with a guy who eats half an olive at a time? Is there a lack of emotional investment (or none at all?) for Trinity? But was this intentional? Smith, who are you? Why are you here? What is your purpose?! The cookies are done, but who does the Oracle actually think that they are for? Smith turns out to be quite the three-dimensional character despite Brittany's best attempts to ignore his existence We are in Zion/the real world for a majority of the movie with the crews of the ships and on the battlefield defending Zion The side characters give us hope The Kid is actually a bigger deal than just being the President of Neo's fan club Another battle/fight scene makes us care a bit more when it cuts between people rather than focusing on one character at a time The casting of Bane was *chef's kiss* “Neo dust” Neo is blinded-but he cannot escape Smith's sunglasses-and he kills Bane Does Keanu make his only joke… ever… in this movie? Trinity and Neo's deaths - what was the emotional and logical reactions to each of these? Happily ever after, or not, there's always the 4th movie Neo master negotiator with the machines Iconic RAIN BATTLE Based on canon alone the machines taking Neo is a giant question mark (but there are possibly some answers in the video game) Natalie adds some must-sees to her Sydney tour and it is an eel wall (no thank you) What is the one thing that would keep you living in the Matrix? Or Zion? There are some disturbing procreation discussion What the hell is going to happen in The Matrix: Resurrections? ReWatchable's journey into the Wachowskis' Matrix trilogy continues with The Matrix Reloaded. Our hosts unpack a highly philosophical sequel that leans heavily on action sequences, sex, and monologues providing very few breadcrumbs for our hero Neo to follow on his journey. Is what the Architect reveals enough to leave us wanting more? Join us as we try to keep our attention focused on what it all means. Fun Facts As a reminder: we are no longer found on Hypable – we are now on Subjectify Media! Will this make Brittany watch Ted Lasso? Stay tuned. The Matrix Reloaded Was the Matrix always intended to be a trilogy? Would one Matrix movie have been enough?  This isn't the sequel we're looking for, but it's the one we have Six degrees of How I Met Your Mother How much action is too much action? Pick your first action in the Matrix and your outfit! Zion is not a flashback to serve as Morpheus' backstory, but rather a real, very big place for humanity! Morpheus is not loved by Lock, but he is a headliner of Zion Coachella  We get a slice of life: Morpheus' influence, Neo's reception, Link's tie to the mission, and also Gina Torres is there However, it quickly dissolved into 36 hours of leave sex and a giant rave Can we trust the old White guy? Apparently we can! Neo can't seem to grasp the bigger picture here The spoon didn't do much for us here Seraph has a nice short scene that has a purpose and progresses the plot! The Oracle gives us a lot of insight in a very short amount of time and there are a lot of rebel programs that are existing in the major network Persephone we have your back 100% if you just want to stab Merovingian. Time to play a round of: Do you really have autonomy or not? The fight scene that lasted 1000 years At least the Keymaker is adorable and gets to have a heist scene moment We meet the Architect who seems a bit annoyed that Neo actually has a choice in this programming and that he has to wait to let it play out What exactly happens to Trinity? Neo fights the machines with his mind and we get a cliffhanger! But before we go, what did we think of the romance? Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz talk about what's new in the Percy Jackson fandom, pitch each other their ideas for standalone novels set in the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles universe (aside from Nico di Angelo, of course), and analyze chapters 10 and 11 of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:16) Roseanne A. Brown's A Psalm of Storms and Silence is out now! Becky suggests you read Anne Ursu's Cronus Chronicles. Hoyeon Jung from Squid Game loves Percy Jackson. Make sure you read up on the Nautilus! And don't forget about the Cursed Carnival excerpt for “My Life as a Child Outlaw.” Standalone novel ideas (00:07:23) We're definitely getting a Nico di Angelo book, but what other characters do we want standalone novels for? Karen wrote an article about this earlier this year on Hypable. Did you guess which character people most want a book about, besides Nico? Karen's first suggestion is Mr. D—it's a strange one, but bear with her. Kristen likes the idea of his curse being lifted for 24 hours. Do we know how long he's been at camp so far? The end of Tower of Nero has a perfect jumping off point, too. Kristen's first choice if Frank because he's her favorite out of all the Camp Jupiter kids. He has such a rich family lineage, this could make for a really cool story. Everyone loves a good family heirloom. Should this be with or without Hazel? Next up, Karen makes her argument for a book based on Rachel Elizabeth Dare. Can she give herself a prophecy? Once again, Tower of Nero provides the perfect segue into a book. Kristen's rounding out her main picks with Leo Valdez. Everyone loves a good festival! You break it, you fix it. It's okay if Calypso isn't involved, but Karen really loves these two together. We say he's immature a lot, but we really do love him. Long live Festus! Karen's runner-up is none other than Thalia Grace (and maybe a little Reyna, too). There are a million ideas here for a Hunters of Artemis book. Kristen talked about her a little earlier, but her runner-up idea is for Hazel Levesque. This would also be a perfect follow-up to Nico's story. And maybe it could be a little bit spooky. Chapter Reviews (01:10:22) Kristen leads us through The Lightning Thief chapters 11 and 12. Thank goodness SOME of their stuff survived. It's nice Annabeth has some doubts. What exactly was going on with Percy? Should we recognize any of the statues? It was important to get the Percy-Medusa fight out of the way early. Is Medusa really a monster? Kristen has a question, but— It's answered at the beginning of the next chapter. The next chapter is super short, but it's jam-packed. Of course Grover is an environmentalist! There are some weird things going on… The Lightning Thief musical did things a little differently. We're officially halfway through the book! Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next week for episode 7, which will discuss the Rick Riordan Presents authors' other series. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure Treasure Island gave the world a number of familiar pirate tropes, like parrots on shoulders and X marks the spot. But it also helped lock us into a somewhat limited view of life on the high seas. Pirates and piracy have existed in many eras in many different oceans--and not every would-be adventurer is a young English boy living in the nineteenth century. C.B. Lee's exciting new novel A Clash of Steel: A Treasure Island Remix provides a fresh look at a familiar tale. In this YA novel, two intrepid girls hunt for a legendary treasure on the deadly waters of the South China Sea. In this episode, C.B. joins Jacke for a discussion of what it means to remix a classic, her research into the ruthless pirate queen known as "the Head of the Dragon," and more. C.B. Lee is a Lambda Literary Award nominated writer of young adult and middle grade fiction. Looking back at The Matrix after 20 years, how does it hold up? Natalie informs the group that Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) from Ted Lasso can perform the Muppet Christmas Carol in approximately 6 minutes. Watch it now, if not for the Ted or the Muppets, then for the dedication. Kendra watched the entire Matrix trilogy for the first time in the past few months to celebrate her anniversary, however her partner cannot watch a movie or read a book without spoiling it. But Kendra's real fun fact is that she is about to embark on a Halloween cookbook review spree for Subjectify so stay tuned if you want some spooky treats (and of course she is going all out to have her friends sample her cooking!) With the closing of Hypable, Brittany uncovered some deeply locked away memories from her time covering a few shows that should never be named. The Matrix Superfans: how many times have you seen this movie? What has stuck with you? What has changed? Newbies: In thinking about the movie as a pop culture classic, what were you aware of going in? The world building is very intricately designed thanks to the work put in off screen. Trinity opens the series to establish the premise that there is another layer to this environment where an us versus them battle is happening outside the parameters of the world we know. Do the special effects hold up today? A lot of effects were either invented or honed specifically for this movie. It truly changed the game for Hollywood, we had not seen ANYTHING like this in Western cinema. More reading: (link) (link - slight spoilers for Reloaded) Practical effects helped the movie's action feel real. The Wachowskis drew from Hong Kong action movies with lots of martial arts and they hired fight choreographers from those movies to get it, so there's lots of wire work and practical stuff. The lobby shootout is ALL practical VFX except painting out the wires that let them do the stunts. “There is the world that people think is real and the reality beneath that” -- the Wachowskis speak to gender transition throughout the film. The Matrix, according to them, has always been a trans allegory. More reading: (link) (link) (link) (thread) (thread) The imagery of meeting Neo for the first time when he is detached from reality (sleeping) is quite fitting. Let's discuss Neo's character development, specifically: is it good? Does the Matrix affect this? Are we meant to interpret him through that lens? If you ever visit Natalie she can take you on a Matrix tour of Sydney. Is there a better Chosen One story where the appointed one has a choice? Is there even another one that offers a choice? The first moment that the rules of reality do not apply and we get a glimpse of Neo figuring something out about the world he's in is when he asks for his phone call. Neo is apparently not put off by the whole bug removal thing and decides to follow Trinity to Morpheus. Would you take the red pill or the blue pill? Also, fuck right-wing co-opting of this reference. Did everyone see Lilly Wachowski dunking on Ivanka Trump over this? Morpheus and the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar save the flushed dead goldfish Neo from the AI overlords, we witness a (sometimes gross) rebirth. Let's go through the ship and meet our friends (and one enemy)! Tank is the MVP of the secondary character crew, but in true Brittany fashion, she likes Cypher. Trinity gets her moment in the spotlight thanks to Karen. [pause for white room orientation and kung fu training montage] Cypher's intentions are sympathetic though executed poorly. The Oracle scene and the Chosen One narrative the Matrix uses needs plenty of unpacking - this is really the crux of the movie. These are not your standard action movie deaths. The psychology of this movie hits hard. The conversation between Morpheus and Smith had a twist that changed the motivations for the final moments of the movie. And now we finally get to it! The action! Neo is The One! And now his story really begins Favorite Scenes Favorite Lines Brittany's Brainstorms: She may or may not have seen this movie! This right here is the Subjectify Media Special. In this episode, we let you know all about the founding of our new home, Subjectify Media, and look back together on the decade of podcasting and journalism on Hypable that brought us here. We've all shared a lot, working together, and we reflect on all the best things about that - the friendship, collaboration, travel, special events, skills gained, experiences, fandoms, the lot, while explaining what the plan and inspiration is for the new website. It's a wild ride through our sense of identity and accomplishment, and a huge introduction to what comes next. If you have followed our writing and want to know what happened - this is the episode for you. We talk about the closure of Hypable, how the news made us all feel, and how we pulled ourselves out of the depths of despair in order to create something new and great! The key to all of this is how much we love fandom communities and the platform for engagement and discussion that Hypable provided, and Subjectify will continue to provide. Speaking of, Karen introduces her new podcast (another one!) that will focus on one of her lifelong loves, Percy Jackson. In terms of gripes, Natalie tells us all about Subjectify brand name and ethos while highlighting the irony about "bias" in entertainment journalism. (Art is subjective. Critics are meant to be subjective! That being said, we don't plan to be negative, we just aren't going to apologise for our personal slant about what elements are important to us.) Karen lets people know just how tough, financially, being a freelance writer is these days, and how COVID has made it worse, and Kendra expresses contempt at exploitative clickbait headlines - which we never did on Hypable and won't be doing on Subjectify. Natalie gives us two truths and a lie about some of the most ridiculous reader hate she's ever gotten, and our question of the day throws back to some of our most memorable work over the last few years. #ANA - Ask NATW Anything: “Fave Hypable article OR one you now disagree with/want to change?” Resources/Recommendations: subjectifymedia.com @subjectifymedia on Twitter Subjectify Media on Instagram Subjectify Media on Facebook Subjectify Media on Tumblr Nico di Angelo and 8 other ‘Percy Jackson' characters who deserve standalone novels From ‘Iron Man' to ‘Far From Home': Exploring Tony Stark's legacy within the MCU Dear ‘The Vampire Diaries': A love letter to Mystic Falls Is Star Wars setting up Poe Dameron as its first queer protagonist? On today's episode, Laura's got a SCOTUS term preview, Pam talks about Big Brother, which crowned its first black winner, and we speak more about the Sunday Scaries, including how to help calm them down. Facebook and Instagram were down for several hours today - #thoughtsandprayers to anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists. Andrew shares a personal update about Hypable, and conversation ensues about how to know when you're ready to take a big chance. With the composition of the U.S. Supreme Court shifting to a strong conservative majority, there are a number of issues on the docket that should make progressives nervous. A Mississippi abortion case, gun restriction challenge, and a push to use state money to pay for religious schooling are all on the docket this fall. For the first time in history, Big Brother crowned its first Black winner— and it's thanks to an all Black six member alliance known as The Cookout. We dig into how this alliance between the black players this season helped push back against years of racism in the show's history.  Will The Cookout help promote lasting change in terms of diversity on reality television? Monday is a perfect time to revisit our Sunday Scaries conversation from last week. What do we find ourselves dreading the most about an upcoming week, and how do we mitigate those scaries? This week's recommendations will entertain you, and maybe even help keep you organized! 'No Time to Die', the new James Bond movie (Andrew), Netflix's 'Midnight Mass' (Laura), and the Erin Condren Planner (or the Recollections planner line from Michael's) (Pam).  And in this week's installment of After Dark, available on Patreon: We've spoken a lot about romantic red flags, but what about friendship red flags? Lack of self-awareness, constantly self-degrading, no boundaries, and arguing to argue are all red flags for us. What are your red flags, dear listeners? When we're trying to make new friends, what positive attributes do we keep an eye out for? Andrew learns there is another Andrew in Laura's life and is shook (jk jk jk).

Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen and Kristen team up for their first ever episode of a brand new Percy Jackson podcast, in which they introduce themselves, discuss the latest Rick Riordan news, and analyze the first two chapters of The Lightning Thief. Read the complete breakdown of the episode below, and don't forget to follow us on Twitter @ProphecyPodcast and email us at ProphecyRadioPodcast@gmail.com. Introductions What is Prophecy Radio gonna be about? Meet your co-hosts! Who are Kristen and Karen? Hypable has been hugely important to both of us. Karen has been covering Percy Jackson for 10 years! Kristen loves movies and TV and books and likes getting paid to talk about them. Karen really likes Teen Wolf and sometimes she writes books. Now that Hypable is closing its doors, what's next? Introducing Subjectify Media, our new passion project. How did we come up with the name Prophecy Radio? Huge thanks to Angelica for designing our logo. She's a genius! We have some lofty aspirations for this podcast. Karen wants a set visit. Is that crazy? Both Kristen and Karen bring a lot of journalistic experience to the table. We also really want to talk to fellow PJO fans, young and old. Who WOULDN'T want to be a superhero?? News & Updates Let's start off with some updates on the Percy Jackson Disney+ series. Thank you, Rick, Becky, and Ashlee for keeping us updated on everything! Most of these updates come from Rick's blog (August 21 and July 13). There's no official greenlight, but we're well on our way! Pre-production takes SO...LONG, so try to be patient. The writers' room is full of incredible people, including Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz, Rick and Becky, and many more! Have you watched Black Sails? Shoutout to all the kids who help make these major YA adaptations happen! Anyone else play Stardew Valley? What about Subnautica? We're definitely doing an episode on The Lightning Thief Musical. Who's Team Halloween and who's Team Christmas? Location scouting, pilot director, and casting, oh my! We have too many thoughts on potential casting to discuss just yet. Yes, 2023 seems ages away, but it'll go fast! Now it's time to talk about what we know regarding the Kane Chronicles adaptation. Fair warning: It's not much. Netflix! *shakes fist* Why are you so frustrating!? NetflixLife and Fandom at least has some information for us. Mergers are so confusing, but that's why Netflix got Kane Chronicles. Karen wants a giant crossover a la the MCU. If we're lucky, maybe we'll get the first KC movie in 2022. How much is Rick involved with this series? Eventually Netflix has to tell us something! Last, but certainly not least, let's talk about the upcoming books in 2021! We're going to talk about Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities next week. This would be a really good way to dip your toes into the RRP books. Next up is Daughter of the Deep! We're talking about that in episode 3. We're also going to attend the virtual event for the book's launch. A new Rick story? Happy birthday to Kristen! Don't forget about Tristan Strong Keeps Punching, which also comes out on Oct. 5. Chapter Reviews Kristen walks us through the first two chapters of The Lightning Thief. In ReWatchable fashion, we go through our favorite quotes and favorite moments. Guys, we really love Grover. Percy is a hot mess when we first meet him. There's nothing funnier than the little hints Rick gives us about who Mr. Brunner really is. Peanut butter and ketchup sandwiches can't be a real thing. Right!? Shoutout to There's a Monster at the End of This Book (even though Kristen's not a fan). The message of this book speaks to readers young and old. Mr. Brunner was totally gaslighting Percy about Mrs. Dodds! Omg Grover's little business card was so cute. Keep your eye out for a socked creature. Rick's, like, a really good writer. This isn't news, but we need to say it anyway. Why can't Percy go see his mom?? The Fates are super freaky. We don't blame you for avoiding eye contact, Grover. If you have any thoughts on these first two chapters, make sure you send us a message! Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next week for episode 2, which will discuss The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Each episode, our Prophecy Radio hosts and their guests will keep you up to date on the latest information coming out of Camp Half-Blood, including upcoming books and adaptation news, discuss a topic of choice, and do a chapter by chapter reread of the Percy Jackson series. Hey there word nerds! Today, we’re doing another one of our live-from-a-conference interviews, this time from RWA annual conference, which is the big event that the Romance Writers of America put on each year. I had the pleasure of speaking at this event a few years ago in San Diego, and this year because it’s back in New York, I’m delighted to be attending it once again. For this episode, I have the pleasure of interviewing Nisha Sharma, whose YA novel, My So-Called Bollywood Life, has just won the RITA award, which is one of the top awards for romance writing, for best young adult r omance. Nisha is also the author of the adult contemporary romance The Takeover Effect. Now, because I can’t resist a good YA story, and because it’s been nominated for a RITA, our discussion focuses particularly on My So-Called Bollywood Life. But before we get to the interview, let me tell you a little more about our guest.  Nisha’s writing has been praised in NPR, Cosmopolitan, Teen Vogue, Buzzfeed, Hypable and more. She credits her father for her multiple graduate degrees, and her mother for her love of Shah Rukh Khan and Jane Austen. She lives in New Jersey with her Alaskan husband, her cat Lizzie Bennett and her dog Nancey Drew. In this episode Nisha and I discuss: The inspiration behind My So-Called Bollywood Life How minor characters influence and develop the main character Building a real world as opposed to a fantasy world How Bollywood structure conventions influenced the book Using blog posts at the beginning of each chapter as an anchor for writing The similarities between Jane Austen and Bollywood Plus, her #1 tip for writers. Universal Orlando's Wizarding World of Harry Potter has just opened its latest coaster, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and we review it! We're joined by The Insider's Kirsten Acuna, who rode the Motorbike Adventure with Andrew. Check out Kirsten's review of the ride (https://www.insider.com/hagrids-magical-creatures-motorbike-adventure-review-2019-6) and her report on the queue's easter eggs (https://www.insider.com/hagrids-magical-creatures-motorbike-adventure-easter-eggs-2019-6) ! And here's Andrew's review (https://www.hypable.com/hagrids-magical-creatures-motorbike-adventure-review/) on Hypable. The ride's queue is intriguing: It's the ruins of Hogwarts, with inscriptions and art from students over the decades. It's here where Hagrid also birthed a Blast-Ended Skrewt. Soooo about this Blast-Ended Skrewt: What large hole is spraying us while we're on the Motorbike Adventure???  Andrew and Kirsten review the ride, which is a thrilling technological marvel. And riding it at night is a whole different experience!  The fandom has a new debate on their hands: Is the Motorbike or Sidecar the better vehicle to ride in? We take questions from Patreon supporters: How does this ride compare to the others? How intense is it? In this week's Bonus MuggleCast (https://www.patreon.com/posts/bonus-mugglecast-27696613) , available exclusively on Patreon, we analyze the connection between Fawkes and Dumbledore, and what makes it so special. We are very proud to present an Exclusive Interview with the Executive Producers and Showrunners of Voltron Legendary Defender: Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery. We are also proud to have Hypable Writer and Podcaster Donya Abramo here to help us with the interview. Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery have been on our podcast many times, but this may be the last time we talk about the whole Voltron Legendary Defender series on Netflix, as Joaquim and Lauren have moved onto other projects. We appreciate Joaquim and Lauren taking this much time to talk to us about the 4th installment of a Voltron animated series since it debuted in 1984. We have no news about whether there will be future Voltron projects, but it's a real treat to learn about how Joaquim and Lauren view their time with Voltron, from the beginning to the end of Voltron Legendary Defender. Also joining us as a third interviewer on this podcast is Donya Abramo, the Hypable writer and podcaster you have heard previously on our podcast. We want to thank Donya for joining us for this very special interview. If you'd like to see some of Donya's articles on Hypable, check out this link: https://www.hypable.com/author/virtualdon/ PODCAST TRANSCRIPT! OK. Where do we begin with this long-awaited episode of The Walking Dead? Our friend Tai Gooden helps us break this down.   What started as excitement to see our main woman, Michonne (Danai Gurira), step into the spotlight turned to horror over what we were watching. The kids? Eff them kids. Yes, they deserved to die and we hope they burn in hell! No, we were more than a little disgusted to see Michonne brutalized again. Tussling with the Governor's men? Check. Savage fight with the actual Governor? Check. Beat up by a MMA fighter disguised as a trash lady? Check. Knocked out by a demon child while pregnant? Check. Branded while pregnant? Check. Beaten with a wooden board while pregnant? Check. Had to kill a bunch of Children of the Corn to rescue her daughter who was abducted by a close friend from before the world ended? Check. Had her heavily pregnant belly slashed by a 6-year-old? Check. While he was at it, why didn't he just cut RJ out for good measure?   And we're still confused about the actual point of this. Was this supposed to explain why Maggie and Tara have an attitude with Michonne? Or why Michonne don't want no new friends? We get it. Sometimes, in the zombie apocalypse, you meet people and they try to eat you. No wait-- you meet people and they try to take half of your stuff and make you slaves. No, that's not it. Here we go: you meet people and they kill you and carve a "W" in your head. See where we're going? This ain't new. Not sure why we needed to see Michonne kill some kids?   By the way, thanks for all the help, Daryl. And Judith, go to your room!   On the plus side, Danai was phenomenal. As if there was any doubt. We saw RJ and he's the perfect kid. And Jocelyn, if nothing else, gave us the perfect tagline for these Richonne movies: Go Find Your Man.   Be sure to check out Tai's work at Hypable, SyFyWire and Bustle!   Subscribe to get the newest episodes: Apple | Stitcher | Google Podcasts | Spotify | search "Two Dead Chicks" wherever you get your podcasts! ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mindy Tarquini grew up convinced that there are other worlds just one giant step to the left of where she's standing. Author of the critically acclaimed and award-winning Hindsight (SparkPress 2016) and The Infinite Now (SparkPress 2017), Tarquini's writing has appeared in Writer's Digest, BookPage, Hypable, and other venues. An associate editor on the Lascaux Review and a member of the Perley Station Writers Colony, Tarquini is a second-generation Italian American who believes words have power. She plies hers to the best of her ability from an enchanted tower a giant step left in the great Southwest. ABOUT THE BOOK In Panduri, an enchanted city seen only at twilight, everyone's path is mapped, everyone's destiny decided, their lives charted at birth and steered by an unwavering star. Everyone has his place, and Matteo, second son of Panduri's duca, is eager to take up his as Legendary Protector--at the border and out from under his father's domineering thumb. Then Matteo's older brother pulls rank and heads to the border in his stead, leaving Panduri's orbit in a spiral and Matteo's course on a skid. Forced to follow an unexpected path, resentful and raw, Matteo is determined to rise, to pursue the one future Panduri's star can never chart: a life of his own. Brigadoon meets Pippin in this quirky tale of grief steeped deep in Italian folklore and shimmering with hope--to remember what helps, forget what hurts, and give what remains permission to soar.
