Not unlike a vampire repelled by the sign of the cross, TDMG is currently working through his long-buried trauma re: acoustic guitar, and so today's episode is a neofolk special by TBMG and the  infamous Hyper Shaman. Neofolk is something we mention on the show quite frequently but only rarely review, so for the more introspective, pastoral, and wizened among us, here's your time to shine. Today's episode presents two very different sides of neofolk which will nonetheless be of interest to all those who enjoy extreme metal. First up is Poseidon, announcing the (and I cannot stress this enough) TRIUMPHANT RETURN of Argento and Azoth of the mighty Spite Extreme Wing. The result of this resurgence, however, is not more of their powerful solar metal, but a perhaps equally powerful but much more oneiric take on abstract neofolk/post-industrial. TBMG and Hyper Shaman make a solid case for Poseidon directly linking to SEW through melodic fragments and the gestures toward folk music that band made later in its career. All fans of SEW take note- they might have taken a different shape, but the boys are certainly back in town. The other side of the episode is dedicated to Crooked Mouth, a neofolk project without Poseidon's ties to extreme metal but no less potent for it. Working in the more traditional territory of bands like Death in June and Of the Wand and the Moon, Crooked Mouth centers around beautiful acoustic guitar arrangements, precise vocal timbre, and a host of folk instruments which add texture and breadth to the simple yet elegant music. For episode #2 of season 2 we are joined by author and journalist Mike Magee. Mike Magee is a well-known name to lovers and practitioners of Tantra to whom he has offered for decades the essential, condensed contents of many Tantras of the medieval period. This book is a fruit of his maturity and vast experience. Containing reliable translations and many Kālī Vidyàs, it is a valuable manual for practitioners and an important source for scholars. Magee has written since the 1960s on matters related to occult and esoteric religions. In 1971 he started a small occult magazine called Azoth, and in 1973 in conjunction with David Hall, and his girlfriend Janet Bailey, started a more ambitious six monthly magazine called SOTHiS. In 1978, he went to India and met with an English tantrik guru (and former student of Aleister Crowley) called HH Shri Gurudev Mahendranath (1911–1992) who was a guru of the Uttarakaula Tantric Order of northern India. Mahendranath gave him the title of a guru and a charter to form a group of students. Magee took the tantrik name of Lokanath. Later this was to become a nucleus for the "Arcane Magical Order of the Knights of Shambhala" (AMOOKOS). This group was highly influential, particularly in the way it brought Tantrik teachings to the West. Kali Magic brings together Mike Magee's decades of experience in translating and elucidating tantrik texts. The first section—Sadhana—explores the ritual worship of Kali through mantra, her various aspects, and her yantras. The second section—Tantras—includes new English translations of the Matrkabheda, Todala, and Yoni tantras, plus two Kali Upaniṣads and abstracts of ten tantras related to the worship of the goddess. Richard Mason returns to discuss A.E. Waite's order, The Fellowship of the Rosy Cross, and the special tarot deck developed for private use in rituals. Waite formed the order in 1915 (during WW1) and enlisted the help of artists and a financial backer to create the tarot 'deck,' that is now housed in the British Museum. Notable in the artwork is the shift from 'magic' to 'mysticism', and this artwork reflects Waite's strong views of a 'secret tradition' - a blend of Christianity with various esoteric concepts. Note of Clarification: 'W.M.
