Censoring doctors leads to mandated speech, racism hoaxes, and death. Dr. Azadeh Khatibi has had enough of California's silencing. So she sued the state and its Medical Board, and was a driving force behind the repeal of CA's “medical misinformation” AB2098 law. But the fight isn't over. Now she's taking on AB241, yet another CA law mandating speech in continuing medical education. “Why does California keep passing laws that mandate and censor doctors? California is not home of the free,” writes Dr. Khatibi. Dr. Azadeh Khatibi is a board-certified ophthalmologist, filmmaker, and activist. She hosts the Within podcast and has testified before Congress on physician autonomy. She completed her MD and MPH at UCSF and UC Berkeley, and led lawsuits challenging California laws restricting medical speech. Her film credits include Window Horses and Sinjar. Becoming a parent is a profound transformation, filled with both awe and responsibility. Midwife Lindsay Meehleis, with over two decades of experience, joins the conversation to reveal the deeper wisdom of birth, the power of intuition, and the ways medical intervention has shaped modern childbirth. Through personal reflections and expert insights, we uncover how birth is not just a medical event but a sacred rite of passage — one that requires trust, advocacy, and a return to natural wisdom. From the role of fathers in the birthing process to the cultural fears surrounding childbirth, this episode is a call to reclaim birth as an intuitive, empowering experience that shapes not only our children but our own personal growth. For the past 22 years, Lindsey Meehleis has worked in Healthcare, being called into Birthwork 20 years ago and having witnessed thousands of women birth their babies. Trained traditionally and licensed through the Medical Board, she quickly learned that what is needed in the magic and mystery of birth and death can't be found in a book. She weaves "Great Grandma Wisdom" into our modern world. She has witnessed a drastic shift in Healthcare since 2020 and looks forward to co-creating a new future of what true medicine always was. She gets down to the nitty-gritty of LIFE and everything it brings while illustrating the power that we have within, showing that birth, life, and death are pivotal rites of passage that deserve to be held in sacred deep reverence. —Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lindseymeehleis/ —Website: https://www.theremembering.com/ Resources: —Ready to transform your relationships? As it gets harder to locate specialist clinics with available slots, Australian doctors are turning to social media to help book appointments for their patients. Thousands of doctors have joined Facebook referral groups created to link healthcare providers and secure appointment times. In 2020, while she was on maternity leave, Adelaide General Practitioner Caitlin Sum launched a social media page directed at doctors only. What was a hobby for Sum has now become the main resource for doctors looking for appointments with specialists. The “Adelaide GP Referral Network,” as the Facebook page is called, counts more than 2,000 South Australian doctors. And it's all about saving time. As a lot of specialists have stopped taking new patients, using social media to find one instead of doing endless internet searches or asking around makes a lot of sense. “I think it bridges that gap and allows us to communicate with each other better and get to know each other and communicate directly,” says General Practitioner Alex Main. “We would all love to spend less time doing admin, and more time seeing our patients,” says Dr. Sum. In the state of Victoria, 800 members have joined a similar social media page. According to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, there's more and more pressure on general practitioners (GPs). The costs they face are increasing and waiting times for patients are growing. In this context, social media has become crucial for doing things like booking a specialist. “GPs in the medical profession are hyper-connected, and social media and those discussion spaces, just like everyone, is a really important resource that we use to connect,” says Royal Australian College of GPs president Dr. Nicole Higgins. These social media groups can only be joined by registered doctors. In order not to breach the Medical Board's code of conduct, members can't upload clinical photographs and patients can't be identified. Sum says that because of the clear value of the service offered by the page, doctors have been abiding by the rules. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

In recognition of August as Vaccine Awareness Month, it's essential to cover the topic of vaccines with a well-informed perspective. I, too, wasn't always aware of the full scope of the vaccine discussion. But when you have a credible guest who has meticulously studied vaccine package inserts, analyzed the science, confronted medical boards, debated state governments, and authored insightful books, you know you're in for an enlightening conversation. Our guest is none other than the esteemed Los Angeles pediatrician, Dr. Bob Sears. In this episode, Dr. Sears shares his journey in pediatrics and his commitment to helping parents navigate the complex landscape of holistic health and conventional medicine, with a particular focus on vaccines. We explore key topics from his book, The Vaccine Book, which offers education and guidance on vaccine choices, as well as his latest book, One Doctor versus the Medical Board, where he recounts his personal experience with the medical board and discusses the implications of raising children without vaccines. Before making any assumptions or reacting emotionally, I urge you to listen closely. Dr. Sears discusses vaccine ingredients, the absence of long-term safety studies, the fear surrounding infections, the importance of medical freedom, and the financial incentives doctors receive for maintaining high vaccination rates. Affectionately known as “Dr. Bob” by his young patients, Dr. Sears earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1995 and completed his pediatric internship and residency at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. He continues to practice pediatrics in Dana Point, CA, where he integrates alternative and traditional medical care. His passion for natural and healthy living is evident in his approach, which includes limiting antibiotic use, promoting breastfeeding success, employing science-based natural treatments, and emphasizing good nutrition and immune system health.

Starting in 2023, the Medical Board of Australia and the Medical Council of New Zealand brought in what were called “Strengthened CPD” requirements. These put more focus on reviewing performance through self-reflection and peer feedback described in the RACP's MyCPD Framework as a Category 2 activity. To help synchronise CPD seamlessly with practice, the value of supervision as a reflective activity has been recognised in the 2024 framework. Time spend supervising trainees can now be counted towards Category 2 CPD “Reviewing Performance” rather than Category 1. In this short and insightful podcast, two of the RACP's most passionate medical educators explain the rationale for this shift, and how to use MyCPD tools to streamline the process of planning and recording CPD. On today's show, Mark will discuss the 'civil conscription in the constitution', plus Mark and Dr Trinh's legal battles, plus the Astrazeneca Vaccine withdrawal. GUEST OVERVIEW: Dr Mark Hobart graduated from medicine in 1981. He had been a G. P. in Nth Sunshine, Victoria since 1985 until the Medical Board of Victoria suspended Mark in Nov 2021. Mark was suspended and his practice closed for writing medical exemptions for patients for the Covid19 vaccinations. Mark had successfully treated Covid19 patients during both outbreaks in Melbourne and was quite concerned about the welfare of the elderly and the reliance on lockdowns in managing Covid19. Medical Boards (or state Departments of Licensure and Discipline) are charged with keeping the public safe from unskilled, impaired, or unscrupulous doctors (or other licensed clinicians, each of which has their own board). While this is an important and necessary role, it is also not uncommon for well-meaning or "innocent" doctors to become the subject of investigations due to complaints from patients, other doctors (including competitors), or from the Board itself. Malpractice litigation or adverse event reporting may also trigger Board investigations as well. This process is usually opaque, and clinicians have a poor understanding of how their Board works, who is on it, how those people are appointed, who they answer to, what happens when complaints are investigated, the possible ramifications of board decisions, and how to best prepare themselves in the case of a complaint. A naive physician can unwittingly worsen their situation, and an attorney is usually recommended to help in navigating the process. Depending on the complaint, your malpractice policy may help defray the cost of this. Important points to note: processes for Boards differ from state to state. Typically anyone can lodge a complaint against a physician with the Board, for nearly any reason, and every complaint needs to be addressed in some way. These complaints can be anonymous in some states, and can range from serious to trivial. There is generally no statute of limitations for these complaints. Consider this podcast an invitation to learn more details about your state's medical board and their processes. Board investigations and evaluations have been linked to physician suicide, and Dr. Pensa cites a study from 2014 in which nearly 5% of physicians referred to the Tennessee medical board for fitness-for-duty evaluations either seriously attempted or completed suicide. She also mentions a John Oliver 'Last Week Tonight' episode about state medical boards that paints a bleak picture of state medical boards' ability to root out dangerous doctors. The job of the medical board is indeed a difficult one, and Dr. Pensa makes the case for more transparency, accountability, and feedback mechanisms given their power and the wide-reaching impact of their decisions. Changes would need to be made at a legislative level, as the Board is typically a governmental/political organization. Dr. Gita Pensa gives an introduction to Medical Board investigations and complaints in this episode with Guillermo Beades, Esq. Mr. Beades teaches and publishes regularly in an effort to educate physicians and other clinicians about healthcare law. You can find an article of his about this topic here in Medical Economics. Guillermo J. Beades, Esq., is a Partner in Frier Levitt's Healthcare Litigation Department and Co-Chairs the Firm's Insurance Defense Group. He represents healthcare professionals in a broad range of administrative, civil and criminal healthcare matters. Mr. Beades has extensive litigation experience before state licensing authorities and Medical Boards (e.g., NJ BME, OPMC), federal healthcare agencies (e.g., OIG, CMS, DEA) and state healthcare agencies (e.g., NJ Medicaid Fraud Division, NY OMIG). He represents practices and healthcare professionals in matters concerning credentialing and denial of privileges, administrative discipline, Medicare audits, hospital fair hearings, post-payment demands and pre-payment audits.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is not going to allow one lone judge to dictate whether the children of Ohio are protected from “transgender” surgeries and hormones, he shared in an interview with The Daily Signal.Yost asked the state's Supreme Court to intervene after Judge Michael Holbrook issued a temporary restraining order for House Bill 68, the Saving Ohio Adolescents From Experimentation, or SAFE, Act, on Tuesday. That law bars physicians from performing “transgender reassignment” surgeries on children and from prescribing cross-sex hormones or drugs to block children's puberty. It also would allow students to sue if they are deprived of a fair playing field in sports due to transgender activism (such as a boy who “identifies” as a girl playing on a girls' volleyball team) and would protect parents' rights to raise their children according to their biological sex.A supermajority of Republican lawmakers voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine's controversial veto of the bill in January, and before Holbrook blocked it, it was scheduled to go into effect on April 24.On Monday, Yost, the Medical Board of Ohio, and the state of Ohio filed an emergency motion for a writ of prohibition, asking that Holbrook be ordered to modify his temporary restraining order to “comply with Ohio statutory and procedural limitations.”The Ohio attorney general discussed the move and what he hopes will ensue from here in an interview with The Daily Signal.Enjoy the show! For the past year, Portland neurosurgeon Darrell Brett hasn’t been charging his patients for his services, but only as a result of disciplinary action. In an in-depth investigation conducted by the Oregon Medical Board that began in 2017, Brett was found to have grossly overcharged his patients for surgical procedures, overprescribed painkillers and referred his patients to a specimen testing company he owned. Lucas Manfield is a reporter for Willamette Week. He joins us to share more about this specific case and how it reflects failures in the system of oversight and regulation by the state medical board and other agencies.

LISTEN In his From the Heart segment, Dr. Paul talks about living in the present. It is easy to get consumed with the dangers that exist in our world or to get stuck rehashing the past or planning for the future. Although there are a myriad of ways we can distract ourselves, choosing to be present with ourselves and for others can be a glorious experience, bringing the connection we are ultimately seeking. Contrary to the conventional, intervention heavy approach, birth is not a medicalized pathology. It's a spiritual portal. Every mother's body contains innate wisdom and magic necessary to transition from the maiden to the mother archetype. Unfortunately, many mothers don't describe their birth experiences as "magical." Our guest today takes us on a journey of remembering as we dive into her world of spiritual birth. For the past 20 years, Lindsey Meehleis has worked in healthcare but found herself often in the shadows. In the shadows of the night helping women discover their own strength through psychedelic, transcendent experiences while they birth their babies in power at home. As well in the shadows of death as a Midwife who helps people cross the rainbow bridge. Her hands have touched the lives of many as they take their first and last breath. She has woven the stories of thousands of births throughout these 20 years. Trained traditionally and licensed through the Medical Board, she quickly learned that what is needed in the magic and mystery of birth and death can't be found in a book. She serves families from womb to tomb, like many medicine women have done throughout time, with a deep remembering that many of these witches were burned at the stake for their threat to the standard industrialized medical complex. She has witnessed a drastic shift in healthcare since 2020 and looks forward to co-creating a new future of what true medicine always was. She gets down to the nitty-gritty of LIFE and everything it brings and illustrates the power that we have within, showing that birth, life and death are pivotal rites of passage that deserve to be held in sacred deep reverence.
