In this episode of the Getting Smart Podcast, Tom Vander Ark talks with Jean-Claude Brizard, CEO of Digital Promise, about the launch of the Center for Learner Pathway Innovations and what it will take to build New Pathways that are truly "unbounded." They dig into the barriers that keep learners from seeing and accessing opportunity (visibility, value, and recognition gaps), why pathways must be co-created with learners and communities, and how credentialing and learner records can better capture skills and verified experiences—from work-based learning to out-of-school learning. The conversation also highlights regional pathway design (including an Alabama cybersecurity example), lessons from P-TECH, and how emerging technologies like AI can support powerful learning grounded in agency, purpose, curiosity, and connection. Waite Park Church

In this sermon, Pastor Kory explores how everyday habits form “paths” in our lives—often unconsciously—and how God invites us to reshape these pathways through intentional rituals. Using examples from daily life and the Exodus story, he shows how practices like Passover, the Lord's Supper, baptism, and weekly worship re‑form us over time. The message encourages reflecting on our own rituals and choosing those that lead us toward God's freedom, grace, and transformation.

In this episode of The Intentional Dad, hosts J. Fotsch and Jason Hynson sit down with guest Dyllan Dale, a New Pathways for Good Dads graduate. They unpack the challenges dads face when helping their kids navigate peer pressure and self-esteem. Through honest conversation and real-life stories, the trio explores how intentional parenting means being present, empathetic and proactive—especially when kids are influenced by their peers or struggling with their own worth. They discuss the cultural pressure on dads to provide, the emotional weight of comparison fueled by social media and the importance of saying "no" with love. Whether it's confronting unrealistic expectations, teaching kids it's okay to be different or reflecting on their own adolescence, the hosts highlight the value of listening, guiding and building trust through tough conversations. Episode Highlights [01:01] "This is some hard stuff. I've got to do this… the intentional part is the actual actions." [04:44] "I have to be intentional… say, 'I'm going to pick you up and we're just going to go hiking—nothing else.'" [07:27] "The culture nowadays pressures us dads to be such providers… if we can't give our kids everything we feel like we've failed." [9:55] "Going back to your family goals… sometimes that means the one-off outliers don't get the phone." [13:50] "That fear rises back up in me… but I have to say, 'That was a whole other lifetime ago.'" [21:41] "You're dealing with fear, anger… but you're also trying to remember what you needed at that age." [26:10] "I always tell them: it's okay to be different. You're going to grow up and be your own person." [30:49] "Maybe the goal with peer pressure is just to be available… to be a listening voice and a guide." Resources

How do our surroundings affect our ability to think? And can we connect with our sense of place and purpose by immersing ourselves in nature? In this episode of the Coach's Journey Podcast, walking coach Rebecca Norton brings her combined expertise in coaching and mountain leadership to bear on these questions and many more, in conversation with host Alex Swallow.Rebecca and Alex explore the lasting impact that access to the natural world has on our lives, from infancy through to adulthood, and how the coaching walks that Rebecca offers her clients help them to navigate new pathways – both in the physical environment and their internal worlds.Rebecca, who delivers workshop facilitation and social prescribing alongside her coaching and “wonder walks”, describes how she carefully built up her coaching business while continually developing her skills and experience as an outdoor activities instructor. She links the idea of being a tourist in your own city and developing curiosity about new perspectives with the importance of getting alongside coaching clients and seeing the world through their eyes. The many twists, turns, ups and downs of Rebecca's adventures in the hills act as a powerful metaphor for journeys through the challenges of careers, relationships, families and life decisions. Just as her clients gain new perspective on their lives as they ascend into the hills with Rebecca, so do we as she reflects on her unique, brilliant approach to coaching conversations and many other aspects of her work.In this episode, Rebecca and Alex also talk about:The power of experiencing coaching techniques from both sidesHow to integrate experiences as we train and gain qualificationsThe barriers we place between ourselves and our own fulfillmentSeeing who we need to become in order to achieve our goalsHow to lower the importance of gaining a client when building your coaching businessRebecca also reminds us that personal development can be a grueling expedition, and that if we fail to interrogate our deeper purpose and connect the ‘why' that guides us, we can be at risk of losing our way. In the premiere episode of The Difference a Dad Makes, Dr. Jennifer Baker and cohost J. Fotsch welcome Brian Mattson, lead pastor at the Downtown Church and father of two, to discuss the critical role of fathers, mentors and role models in shaping lives. This engaging conversation explores the profound impact dads have on their children not just in their presence but through their actions, stability and support. Brian shares personal experiences of fatherhood, the challenges and rewards of parenting young children and the importance of being an active and intentional father. The episode also highlights how mentors and male role models can step in to fill gaps for those without a father figure, offering guidance, accountability and a positive example. Listeners will gain insights into the unique contributions dads make to their children's emotional, social and developmental well-being as well as practical advice for fostering meaningful relationships. Whether you're a dad, mentor or simply curious about the difference a father can make, this episode sets the stage for a yearlong exploration of fatherhood's transformative power. Episode Highlights •03:54 - "Early research on dads focused on what happens when you don't have a dad. Now we're looking at what dads bring to the parenting equation that kids don't get from their moms."  •05:22 - "What's the difference a dad makes? Another parent is available to take the stress off the other parent. When moms do better, babies do better."  •08:06 - "Dads provide a unique stability, especially in the teenage years. Having a father around gives kids someone to report to, which creates accountability."  •12:30 - "I remember a mentor who valued my opinions and thoughts, treated me like a co-equal, and helped me solve problems. That always stuck with me."  •18:00 - "Most of the guys in our New Pathways program grew up without strong male role models. For many, it's the first time they've met a man who genuinely cared about them."  Resources Sign up for the Good Dads Newsletter and never miss a podcast!  Learn more about at gooddads.com  Questions or comments? Click here to send me a quick message :) The truth is that behavior change is NOT easy. Most of us can't just say we want to do something, and then just do it. Especially if it's something we're trying to incorporate into our lives for a long period of time, regularly. We have rhythms and patterns we are accustomed to. Sometimes they're healthy for us, and sometimes they're not. Sometimes we're choosing them, and sometimes they're just our default. In working with clients for years, and also through my extensive health coach training, I've found that most of us don't have an easy time implementing something new into our lives, even if we know it's healthy for us or even if it's something we 100% want (myself included). So today I decided to riff on the framework I see as foundational in the process of implementing something new.Honestly I was inspired to speak to this partly because of this week's very controversial holiday (honor to ALL the indigenous people of Turtle Island who are certainly not represented accurately in the stories we learned in school). But the act of true thanks-giving and allowing ourselves to feel gratitude is to me, the first step in effectively adding something new into our lives. Not because our gratitude encourages change in itself, but because when we feel that sense of abundance in our lives, we can move from a foundation of feeling what's good, and what's possible. Accepting ourselves where we have been and are now, before beginning to envision what's next for us. Instead of coming from a place of lack, we're coming from a place of nourishment. And from there we can move into vision, gathering resources, intention and goal setting, creative action and then maintenance over time. I speak to all of this and, as usual, so much more in this week's episode. Listen to learn:some of the reasons we often don't achieve our goals the foundational pillars of behavior change from my perspectivewhy I think gratitude is a huge and often missing factor what the difference is between vision and intentionhow normal it is to face obstacles after implementing changehow this is relevant to the upcoming Natural Contraception course Resources:Grab your spot on the Natural Contraception course waitlist hereToday's shownotes: How to create new pathways of embodied possibilityEpisode 12: The simple practice of making herbal teasEpisode 107: The healing practice of everyday ritualsFree guide: Track your cycle naturally (FAM basics)If you loved this episode, share it with a friend, or take a screenshot and share on social media and tag me @herbalwombwisdom.  And if you love this podcast, leave a rating & write a review! This week on the podcast, Amanda breaks down how trying new things can boost creativity and improve your sex life by helping your brain form new connections. She dives into the idea of neuroplasticity—how our brains can change and adapt—and explains why setting and communicating healthy boundaries is crucial for personal growth.  Amanda shares some real-life examples and tips on how to set and maintain boundaries to strengthen intimacy and creativity. Plus, she offers practical advice on how to recognize and respect your limits to support your creative and sexual well-being. Key Takeaways from this Episode: Embrace Change and New Experiences: Amanda highlights the magic of neuroplasticity—basically, your brain's ability to rewire itself. Trying new things, whether in creativity or sex, helps form new neural pathways and keeps things exciting. Novelty Boosts Growth: Doing something out of the ordinary triggers dopamine, the feel-good chemical in your brain, which can enhance learning and personal growth. Stepping out of your comfort zone, even just a little, can do wonders. Boundaries Are Essential: Healthy boundaries aren't just about saying "no." They're about protecting your energy and well-being, allowing you to thrive both creatively and intimately. Amanda stresses the importance of identifying and communicating your limits. Creative Exploration Fuels Intimacy: Engaging in creative activities can deepen your connection with your partner. It's all about play, experimentation, and being open to new ways of expressing yourself, which can spill over into your sexual life. Practice Saying Yes and No: Amanda suggests tuning into how your body feels when you're genuinely saying "yes" or "no" to something. This awareness helps you make decisions that align with your true desires, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling life.
