This week on Better Buildings for Humans, host Joe Menchefski sits down with Brian Bucher of WD Partners for a fascinating conversation about the intersection of architecture, branding, operations, and human experience in retail design. Drawing from decades of experience creating immersive spaces for some of the world's most recognizable brands, Brian shares how thoughtful design can shape customer behavior, improve employee well-being, and strengthen emotional connections between people and places. The discussion explores everything from daylighting and glare control to adaptive retail strategies, operational efficiency, workplace comfort, and the evolving role of physical spaces in an increasingly digital world. Brian also dives into scalable design systems, hospitality-driven retail, sustainable reuse, and why great buildings must serve both the people inside them and the communities around them. It's an insightful look at how truly exceptional spaces don't just support business goals — they create memorable, human-centered experiences that people genuinely want to return to.More About Brian BucherSENIOR DIRECTORBrian is skilled at leading creative programs, using his keen understanding of marketing and business strategies. Admiral James Stavridis examines resource evaluation using David Farragut's victory at Mobile Bay as a model of combined arms and technological adaptation. Farragut successfully managed the transition from wooden sailing ships to ironclad steam vessels. In contrast, Captain Lloyd Bucher of the USS Pueblo faced a tragic lack of resources when captured by North Koreans in 1968. Without support, Bucher made the controversial but rational decision to surrender to save his crew. Finally, Captain Brett Crozier of the USS Theodore Roosevelt is highlighted for prioritizing his people during the COVID-19 pandemic, illustrating that moral leadership sometimes carries harsh career consequences. Join our champion program: mark@themomentumcompany.comAttend a Thriving Leader event: https://thriving-leader-2026.lovable.app/Instagram: @the.momentum.companyLinkedIn: /momentum-companyIn this episode of The Intentional Agribusiness Leader, Mark sits down with Tim Bucher, CEO and co-founder of Agtonomy, for a powerful conversation at the intersection of agriculture, technology, and leadership.Tim defines intentional leadership in a way that cuts through the noise:Pause. Think. In a world that rewards speed, the most effective leaders create space—however small—to process, evaluate, and respond with clarity. That simple act of thinking is what separates reactive leadership from intentional leadership.Tim's journey is anything but typical.Raised in agriculture, he built his own farming operation at a young age while simultaneously building a career in Silicon Valley—working alongside leaders like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Michael Dell. For decades, he kept those two worlds separate.Until now. With Agtonomy, Tim has brought agriculture and technology together to solve one of the industry's biggest challenges:Labor.Agriculture is facing a shrinking workforce, rising costs, and increasing pressure to get more done with less. Agtonomy is addressing that challenge through what Tim calls physical AI—intelligence embedded in machines that can perform real-world work. Not just data. Not just insights.Work.By integrating AI into existing equipment, Agtonomy enables one operator to manage multiple machines at once—turning a one-to-one labor model into a one-to-many system. The result is increased efficiency, improved safety, and a meaningful shift in how work gets done on the farm.A key theme throughout the episode is this:Growers don't need more data. They need help getting the job done. That distinction matters. While much of the recent focus on AI has centered around digital tools and information, the next wave of innovation is physical—machines that can think, adapt, and execute in real environments. The conversation also addresses the concern many people have around automation:Will it take jobs?Tim offers a different perspective. In industries like agriculture, the problem isn't too many workers—it's not enough. With an aging workforce and fewer people entering the field, the only path forward is innovation. Not replacement.Adaptation.The episode also explores lessons from some of the most iconic leaders in tech. Tim shares how leaders like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Michael Dell each operated with a clear mantra—design, software, cost—that guided their decisions and aligned their organizations.Clarity at the top creates alignment throughout.Tim's own mantra?“Show me.”In industries like agriculture, results matter more than ideas. The fastest way to build trust is to prove that something works in the real world. The episode closes with a powerful reminder:We are living through another industrial revolution. Not mechanical— but technological. And the leaders who will shape the next 100 years aren't the ones resisting it.They're the ones willing to pause, think, and build what comes next.Listen if you are:Trying to understand how AI will impact agricultureLeading through labor shortages or operational challengesInterested in automation, robotics, or ag technologyNavigating change in a rapidly evolving industryCommitted to becoming a more intentional, thoughtful leader

In this episode of The Sound of Economics, host Rebecca Christie speaks with European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, Bruegel Director Jeromin Zettelmeyer and research fellow Anne Bucher about how to make the European Union work better. Ukraine, Bruegel's newest state member, will soon receive more financial support but needs Europe to keep up its sanctions on Russia. How will the enlargement process shape relations between Kyiv and its neighbours? Closer to home, how should the Brussels institutions tackle simplification and deregulation? Can the European Commission do a better job with impact assessments to manage the costs and trade-offs of its policies? Does the EU need tougher enforcement against national gold-plating? As member states and the European Parliament put their stamp on, and add complexity to, new legislation, policymakers must find the political will to make the system work.

What happens when a former hedge fund trader walks away from finance… survives a near-fatal accident… and rebuilds his farm using regenerative agriculture? In this episode of the Deep Seed Podcast, James Butcher shares how he transformed his Suffolk farm from a high-input, chemical-dependent system into a diversified regenerative farming model using:Companion croppingLivestock integrationAgroforestryReduced synthetic nitrogenBiological soil health principlesAnd here's the kicker:He slashed growing costs from £1,500–£2,000 per hectare to under £600 per hectare — while increasing resilience and, in some cases, yields.Including one wheat field that yielded 2 tonnes per hectare MORE after being grazed by sheep.Yes, really.⸻
Transitioning to high school is more than just moving up a grade. It's a full developmental leap. At the heart of this episode is the theme of managing transitions, and our guest, Ann Bucher, brings her unique perspective as both a new high school teacher and a veteran middle school educator. She reflects candidly on the challenges her freshmen face, from learning how to manage time and meet deadlines to understanding that GPA and credits now carry real consequences.Ann emphasizes the power of structure and repetition, noting that even high schoolers benefit from routines and clearly defined expectations. “I want to hold you accountable for your learning,” she tells her students, “but I also want to be real with you that we're not all going to be perfect all the time.” Her story underscores the importance of grace, honesty, and modeling growth, for students and teachers alike, as they navigate the shifting demands of high school and beyond. Bucher discusses the risks of the declining trust in healthcare institutions from a behavioural science perspective, as well as how regulatory changes, such as fast-tracking drug approvals as seen with the FDA lately, can impact patient perception. In this episode of On The Ball, Ric Bucher breaks down LeBron James' long-awaited season debut—and why the box score doesn't tell the truth about how the 40-year-old superstar actually looked against the Utah Jazz. Bucher digs deep into what LeBron's return means for the Lakers' chemistry, the Luka-LeBron power shift, and why L.A.'s defensive issues may only get tougher to solve.Ric also revisits his assessment of Anthony Davis, revealing how AD's early-career reputation, his time alongside LeBron, and his disappointing arrival in Dallas all add up to a harsh but honest conclusion: AD is not the franchise cornerstone many believed he could be. From conditioning concerns to effort questions, Bucher details why the Mavericks may already be ready to move on.Additional themes include: • The strategic way LeBron chose his comeback moment • How Austin Reaves and Marcus Smart's roles shift with LeBron back • Why the Lakers' starting lineup could repeatedly dig early holes • The true value of LeBron's leadership—and its limits at age 40 • How AD's upbringing, mentality, and playing style shaped who he is now • Why the “LeBron Effect” made AD look like a different player in L.A.Ric also previews upcoming episodes, teases his third book—on the value of being coachable—and highlights his other United WeCast Network shows, Finding The Seams and Fullcourt Passport. For authentic NBA insight you won't hear anywhere else, On The Ball delivers.#NBA #LeBronJames #Lakers #AnthonyDavis #LukaDoncic #Mavericks #NBAPodcast #RicBucher #UnitedWeCast #SportsAnalysis #BasketballDiscussion #NBA2025Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/bucher-and-friends. In this episode of On The Ball (United WeCast Network), Ric Bucher breaks down the widening gap between American-born NBA stars and their international counterparts — and what it says about player development, discipline, and leadership in today's game.Bucher dives into the latest around Ja Morant, including front-office chatter about his trade value, locker-room issues, and whether the Memphis Grizzlies can still build around him. He compares Ja's stalled maturity and Zion Williamson's lack of evolution to the steady growth and professionalism of Victor Wembanyama, Nikola Jokić, and Giannis Antetokounmpo — stars who treat the game as craft, not performance.Ric also examines why American player development has fallen behind Europe's, how Pat Riley's shift toward international talent reflects a changing NBA, and what the Chicago Bulls' surprising start reveals about teamwork over showmanship. From leadership accountability to the future of U.S. basketball, this episode challenges the culture of “flash over fundamentals” and asks the question: What happened to making American players great again?
Bucher talks about why the Suns should not build around Devin Booker, Jalen Green's potential, and more.

In this week's episode, we sit down with two of our favorite Twos—Heather Flener and Sherman Bucher—for a conversation full of warmth, laughter, and self-awareness. These two embody the best of what it means to be “The Helper,” and their stories bring the Enneagram Two to life in such relatable ways. Heather and Sherman share how their caring hearts show up in parenting, friendships, and everyday life—and how that same deep empathy can sometimes make it hard to step back and care for themselves. We loved hearing them talk about learning to set boundaries, finding rest, and practicing the kind of self-care that allows them to keep loving well without burning out. From stories about childhood moments of “helping” to reflections on parenting as a Two, this conversation is full of insight and encouragement for anyone who gives a lot to others. And in true Two fashion, they even close things out by describing their ideal meal—small, intimate gatherings where connection is rich and laughter is easy. It's a tender, joy-filled conversation that will make you want to call the helper in your life and say thank you. Inspired by Franciscan spirituality and Joanna Macy's body of teachings known as the Work That Reconnects, Canticle Farm in Oakland, California, brings together more than 40 people living into the question of how we heal ourselves and the planet together. In this conversation, host Serena Bian talks with Anne and Terry Symons-Bucher, founders of Canticle Farm, about the role that trauma healing and conflict transformation plays in building towards beloved community. Through the lived experiences of Terry and Anne, we will dive into the journeys that both have taken to steward communities across cultures in practicing love in the face of difference, conflict, and rupture. Anne served as Joanna Macy's executive assistant for over two decades, and this conversation will also serve to honor Joanna's life and work. Anne and Terry Symons-Bucher are the co-founders of Canticle Farm, located in the Fruitvale District of East Oakland. Inspired by the life of Francis of Assisi, Canticle Farm is a community providing a platform for the Great Turning, one heart, one home, and one block at a time. The Great Turning—the planetary shift from an industrial-growth society to a life-sustaining society—is served by Canticle Farm through local work that fosters forgiveness in the human community and compassion for all beings. Canticle Farm primarily focuses on the poor and marginalized as those who most bear the burden of social and planetary degradation, as well as being those who are first able to perceive the need for the Great Turning. Rooted in spiritual practice, Canticle Farm manifests this commitment by engaging in the Work That Reconnects, integral nonviolence, gift economy, restorative justice practices, urban permaculture, and other disciplines necessary for regenerating community in the 21st Century. Anne and Terry are the parents of five children. Find out more about The New School at Commonweal on our website: tns.commonweal.org. And like/follow our Soundcloud channel for more great podcasts.

» ; Perrin.
