POPULARITY
We've hit a head-spinning milestone in the history and development of women's basketball in Indiana. This week, Indianapolis is hosting the WNBA All-Star Game and all of its related festivities, coming amid an unprecedented surge in popularity for women's basketball. The top vote-getter for the game is Caitin Clark of the Indiana Fever—a team that now sells out an 18,000-seat arena for nearly every game. The international media is here, and everyone is talking about the potential for players' salaries to significantly rise. Exactly 50 years ago, Judi Warren was preparing to enter her senior year at Warsaw High School. She didn't know that she was on the precipice of history. The Indiana High School Athletic Association had officially sanctioned girls basketball, which meant it would have its first statewide girls basketball champion at the end of the season. Warren would end up a transformational figure in the state's most popular sport, becoming the first Miss Basketball and helping kick-start the rapid growth and evolution of the game for Hoosier girls and women. She's our guest this week to provide a first-hand account of how girls who played the game in the early 1970s had to fight for respect, funding and even decent practice time—and then how quickly attitudes changed after she guided Warsaw to the first state championship. She then became one of the early recipients of a college basketball scholarship, helped nurture talent through basketball camps, and became a coach—returning to the state finals with Carmel High School. In these ways, she understands the path that has led to this moment as Indy hosts the All-Star Game. She also weighs in on the impact of the WNBA and Caitlin Clark in particular.

Zach Berry of the Ole Miss Spirit (OMSpirit.com) is joined for this Friday (February 7, 2025) edition of ‘The Flagship' by Greg Jones of LB's Meat Market. No. 25 Ole Miss basketball seems to be peaking at the right time. The Rebels (17-6, 6-4 SEC) earlier this week secured just the 15th all-time win over Kentucky. Next is a road trip to LSU (12-10, 1-8) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network. Chris Beard's crew is in search of the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in nearly six years, as well as just the 10th in school history. Plus, Super Bowl LIX is on Sunday, pitting the Kansas City Chiefs against Ole Miss great AJ Brown's Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs are looking to become the NFL's first three-peat champion. Brown is only the seventh Rebel in history to appear in two Super Bowls, however, he's seeking his first win. Berry and Jones, of course, will be tuned in. But what's on the smoker? ‘The Flagship,' powered by College Corner, has some ideas. Our Sponsors:* Check out PrizePicks: https://prizepicks.onelink.me/LME0/TALKOFCHAMPIONSAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

For this episode, I'm joined by one of the most prolific brother/sister combos in Minnesota high school basketball history and they are Matt and Marissa Janning. The Janning's grew up playing for Watertown-Mayer high school and put up some amazing numbers. The older of the two Matt graduated in 2006, and was somewhat of a late bloomer. He played 3 years of varsity basketball, was an All-State player and left as the school's all-time leading score and 3-point maker. His senior year he averaged a metro area best 31.8ppg and scored 954 points. Marissa graduated in 2012 and started playing varsity basketball as a 7th grader. She ended her career scoring a school record 3,587 points and earned all Metro honors as well AP Player of the Year. Her senior year she averaged 30ppg and was named Minnesota's Miss Basketball. As siblings they also have two of the more accomplished college careers as well. Matt played collegiately in Boston, Massachusetts at Northeastern University where he led the Huskies in scoring his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He was voted all conference 3 times and graduated as the programs 4th leading scorer in school history. He was inducted into the Northeastern athletics hall of fame in 2024. Marissa attended Creighton University and was the Missouri Valey Conference freshman of the year in her first season. The next year when her school switched conferences and moved to the Big East she was awarded Conference Player of the Year as a sophomore. She was a 3-time All Conference 1st team player and graduated as the schools 4th leading scorer all-time. She was inducted into the Creighton Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023.

Kentucky basketball played some real defense against the Ole Miss Rebels. On today's episode of Locked On Kentucky, Lance Dawe recaps Kentucky vs Ole Miss basketball. The Kentucky Wildcats found a way to play some legitimate, hard-nosed defense lead by Ugonna Onyenso, who finished with 10 blocks on the night. This may be one of Kentucky's better wins of the season, with not only a solid defense to boot, but an efficient offense that was outshot by Ole Miss but still hit at a higher clip. Could this be a sign of Kentucky basketball's potential as the season winds down?
