We are living in a world that seems to be unraveling at the seams - where chaos, polarization, and anxiety have become our default settings - we need a different way of being. Today, I'm sitting down with Eric Clayton, who's been wrestling with the question: What if peace isn't just the absence of conflict, but a transformative way of living? Eric's new book, "Finding Peace Here and Now," isn't another self-help manual. It's an invitation - a roadmap drawn from Ignatian spirituality that challenges us to look deeper. How do we build peace when everything around us seems designed to tear us apart? How do we find stillness in the storm, not by escaping the world, but by showing up differently? We'll explore how peace starts within us, how it's cultivated through compassion, creativity, and a willingness to see the humanity in everyone - even those we disagree with. This isn't about being passive. It's about a strength so profound it can disarm violence without raising a hand. If you're feeling overwhelmed, if you're searching for hope in a world that seems to have lost its way, this conversation is for you. So join us as we walk through what peace really means. Eric Clayton is an award-winning writer and author of three books on Ignatian spirituality and everyday living, including, "Finding Peace Here and Now: How Ignatian Spirituality Leads Us to Healing and Wholeness," "My Life with the Jedi: The Spirituality of Star Wars," and "Cannonball Moments: Telling Your Story, Deepening Your Faith." He has a children's book, "Our Mother, Too: Mary Embraces the World," which was co-authored by Shannon K. Evans releasing this year. Eric is the deputy director for communications at the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States where he manages the award-winning weekly column, "Now Discern This," guest hosts "AMDG: A Jesuit Podcast" and provides filming, writing and audio support for a range of multimedia projects. He has an MA in International Media from American University, a BA in International Studies and Creative Writing from Fairfield University and a graduate certificate in the Ignatian Tradition from Creighton University. If you're interested in podcasting, pod-guesting or public speaking, you need to listen to this episode. My guest today is Dr. Danielle Plummer, host of the MaternalRx Podcast on the Pharmacy Podcast Network.    Pharmacists can play a crucial role in maternal health. Advocacy and education are critical in improving maternal care. Listen and learn from Dr. Plummer on the MaternalRx Podcast!    Click to read the FULL show notes: https://www.thepharmacistsvoice.com/podcast (select episode 329)   Bio - Danielle Plummer, PharmD (May 2025) Danielle Plummer, PharmD, is a third-generation pharmacist and host of the MaternalRx podcast on the Pharmacy Podcast Network. She earned her PharmD from Creighton University in 2016 and has since had a broad pharmacy career spanning retail, hospital, consulting, and medical affairs.   Combining clinical expertise with lived experience, Danielle specializes in supporting pregnant patients, particularly those suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). After studying treatments for other diseases of malnutrition in pharmacy school, she became certified in pharmacogenetics and as an antepartum doula. This, along with a community of pharmacy entrepreneurs, inspired her to launch HG Pharmacist©, a blog to share information about HG, which later grew into Obstet-Rx©, a consulting company offering personalized medication management and patient advocacy to women worldwide.   Her subject matter expertise has led to board member appointments, speaking engagements, and media contributions for international magazines. In her work as an MSL, she has supported diagnostics for preeclampsia (sFlt-1/PlGF) and procalcitonin, as well as therapies for iron deficiency anemia and small cell lung cancer.   Through her podcast, Danielle shows how pharmacists play a key role in improving maternal outcomes. (End bio)    Backstory Danielle and I met at Medipreneurs several years ago and have kept in touch. I enjoyed getting to know her better during this interview. She has transformed her career since we first met, and I'm proud of her for starting a podcast.    The Pharmacy Podcast Network is an important part of Danielle's story. Today, for the first time ever, I host two guests on the podcast to discuss the limitations of objectivism and where it fails to depict the good life. We talk about how they got interested in Rand's thought, how they philosophically dealt with works that were mostly fiction, and where their philosophy, individualistic perfectionism, diverges from Rand's and fills in some important blanks. Den Uyl is a resident scholar at Liberty Fund, and Rasmussen is a professor emeritus in philosophy at St. John's University and senior affiliated scholar at the Center for Economic Inquiry at Creighton University. Dravon was the eldest of the three kids  and would sometimes hear her mom crying at night. That was really hard for Dravon because she knew how hard her mother had worked and how much she gave up in order to give her children a solid family foundation and a good education. So Dravon was afraid to disappoint her mom because of all the sacrifices her mom had made for the family. Now, Davon is a doctor, an author and a Life Coach.  She has so much to thank her mother for, including how her mom instilled in her the power of positive thinking, hard work the power of forgiveness. In Dravon's new book, “Forgiveness: The Pathway to Happiness,” she shares her expertise and personal experience with forgiveness. She teaches that "it is not denial, amnesia, or even reconciliation, but a pathway to peace and a lifetime practice."  A few inspirational influencers include Oprah Winfrey, Miya Angelou and Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. As a young child, my guest's journey began in poverty on the South Side of Chicago. Though she had always dreamt of a career on the stage, Dravon went on to earn a doctorate in pharmacy from Creighton University and has worked as a pharmacist for over 30 years. A leader in the healthcare industry , she is the recipient of the Secretary McDonough Coin of Recognition for her leadership efforts to combat the COVID pandemic.Along with her medical career and theatrical aspirations, Dr. Dravon has always had a keen interest in personal development. After reading Norman Vincent Peale's The Power of Positive Thinking in college, she went on to make a lifelong study of the power we all have to create the life we want.Ruby wasn't all hard work and business. Because of her Southside of Chicago roots, she was the queen of "Chicago Steppin.' Chicago Steppin', which I was not familiar with until Dravon shared this story of her mom's  love of dancing, is a unique and improvisational partner dance, originated in Chicago's Southside and is rooted in soul, jazz, and R&B music, with influences from styles like the Chicago Bop, Lindy Hop, and Western Swing.Dr. Jame's says her mother always instilled in her children to "be dogmatic and be committed to something." Ruby was unwavering, reflects James. Genetic innovation in animal agriculture is moving at a faster-than-ever pace, and this episode digs into the history of performance testing while exploring new technologies like computer vision, microbiome analysis and ways to collect more commercial phenotypes. The discussion covers the challenges of more data, including the labor and expense of proposing new traits, along with the opportunities to make big moves in important categories such as health and efficiency. Open-mindedness, collaboration, creativity and standardization will all be needed to make progress. What is the role of the American Angus Association and Angus Genetics Inc. in leading this change? Listen to find out.   HOSTS: Miranda Reiman and Mark McCully GUESTS: John Dickinson and Troy Rowan John Dickinson is a fifth-generation Angus breeder and a former National Junior Angus Board (NJAB) chairman. A University of Illinois graduate and former regional manager for the American Angus Association, Dickinson often makes the trek between his cows in California and his home in Idaho. He is also a founding partner in Parnell Dickinson, Inc., a full-service marketing firm that works in all facets of promotion, management and cattle trade — both seedstock and commercial. Troy Rowan is an assistant professor of beef cattle genomics at the University of Tennessee– Knoxville. His research work brings together many types of “big data,” both phenotypic and genomic, to understand the genetics of economically relevant traits in beef cattle. He also has a part-time Extension appointment, making all that research applicable to the state's beef producers.  Troy grew up on a small Charolais operation in Southwest Iowa and received his undergraduate degree in biology from Creighton University. Ed Molitor dives into a recent podcast episode with Matt Painter, Men's Basketball Coach at Purdue University. About Matt Painter One of America's top basketball coaches, Matt Painter enters his 17th year at Purdue. He owns a 355-164 record at Purdue. He has led the Boilermakers to 12 NCAA Tournaments, five Sweet 16s, three Big Ten regular-season championships, a Big Ten Tournament title, an Elite Eight, and an international gold medal. His peers voted him as the NABC National Coach of the Year after leading a team that started with a 6-5 record to the 2019 Elite Eight.  Purdue's six straight NCAA Tournament appearances are the seventh-longest active streak in America and Purdue is one of just three teams to have a top-five seed in each of the last five NCAA Tournaments.  Off the court, his program had 68 Academic All-Big Ten honorees in his 16 previous years at Purdue, and every player but one who has exhausted his eligibility at Purdue has graduated.    About Ed Molitor Ed is a coach down to the very smallest molecule of his DNA.  Whether he's a husband and father at home or working with a client in the business world, he is an energized, passionate, and near-obsessive coach who is fully invested in showing up with all he's got to help you show up with all you've got. His approach insists on presence. Dr. Brad Klontz, Psy.D., CFP® | Financial Psychologist | Author | Professor | Adrian Brambila | Entrepreneur | Author | Summary: In this conversation, we explore how to start thinking rich by shifting from a poor mindset to a rich mindset. There's no limit to how much you can earn, but once you achieve financial freedom, it's your responsibility to find your purpose. While money can provide safety and security, it's essential to use it wisely and not rely on material possessions for happiness. The discussion highlights how a poor mindset—believing the system is rigged and feeling powerless—can hold people back, even those with significant wealth. Success comes from changing your beliefs about money, adopting the right behaviours, and consistently challenging your mindset to create lasting change. BIOs: Adrian Brambila Adrian Brambila is an internet entrepreneur and former professional dancer for T-Pain, who has become a leading voice in online marketing. With over 1.7 million social media followers, Adrian's unconventional journey saw him living in a van and travelling the USA during the pandemic, while making over $100K per month online. He's passionate about showing how wealth and minimalism can coexist. Adrian is the founder of Bramify.com and BrambilaMethod.com, and the author of Start Thinking Rich. Dr. Bradley T. Klontz, Psy.D., CFP® Dr. Brad Klontz is a leading expert in financial psychology, financial planning, and behavioral finance. He's an Associate Professor of Practice at Creighton University's Heider College of Business, Co-Founder of the Financial Psychology Institute, and Managing Principal of YYMW Advisors. Dr. Brad has co-authored eight books on the psychology of money, including Psychology of Financial Planning and Mind Over Money. His work bridges the gap between financial behaviour and emotional well-being, helping people create healthier relationships with money. Episode Takeaways: Money can offer safety, security, and freedom, but it's important not to rely on material possessions for happiness. The first step to financial freedom is believing you can change your financial situation. Taking responsibility for your financial choices helps you understand and navigate the system. While the system isn't necessarily rigged, it's crucial to recognize and address issues like racism, sexism, and classism. Being poor is a mindset, not just about lacking money, and even wealthy people can have a poor mindset. Changing our beliefs about money is essential for achieving financial success. A mindset shift is necessary for long-term, sustainable change. Continuously challenging and upgrading your beliefs about money is key. Content that provokes emotional reactions and inspires action is powerful. Being open-minded and learning from others' perspectives helps foster growth. Kelli Thompson is an award-winning leadership and executive coach, keynote speaker, and the critically-acclaimed author of “Closing The Confidence Gap: Boost Your Peace, Your Potential & Your Paycheck.” In Kelli's two-decade career leading teams in primarily male-dominated industries, she received industry awards for her ability to build programs that cultivated the pipeline of future leaders. Kelli explores how both women and men give away their power. She critiques outdated definitions of executive presence based on masculine norms and advocates for a more individual-focused approach. Kelli shares insights on balancing authenticity with professional expectations, including dress codes, and introduces her “Situational Savviness Matrix” for effective communication. She offers advice on salary negotiations and determining if it's time to leave a situation by evaluating values, skills, and energy. Kelli previews her upcoming TED talk on the dangers of idolizing leaders and how it stifles personal intuition and leads to corporate issues. She concludes by defining confidence as trusting yourself despite fear.     Key Takeaways [02:53] Kelli shared that she's a certified storm spotter and originally wanted to be a meteorologist. She studied meteorology in college but decided against the career due to its demands. Kelli also discusses weather prediction, comparing it to leadership. She notes that while we can't control circumstances, having the right tools is essential.  [06:54] Kelli explores how people give away their power, often by not knowing what they stand for. She shares her own experience of following others' advice, which led to an unfulfilling career and personal life. Kelli emphasizes the need to define your values and have the courage to say no to anything that doesn't align with them, inspired by the Hamilton quote: "If you don't know what you stand for, what will you fall for?" [09:10] Kelli discusses how women might give away their power by saying "yes" to fit in or climb the ladder, while men might do so by suppressing traits that don't fit traditional norms. She highlights that men who are empathetic or collaborative may struggle with their careers and personal well-being when they hide these qualities. [10:40] Kelli discusses helping clients find clarity by focusing on core values. She starts with core values and works to define non-negotiables and how they want to be perceived. Kelli uses tools like the Enneagram to uncover motivations and blind spots, helping clients identify strengths and talents. This clarity leads to better decision-making and confidence. Kelli also shares the inspiration behind her Clarity and Confidence Women's Leadership Program, created to provide tools and strategies for overcoming systemic challenges and personal doubts. [15:55] Kelli explores the outdated definitions of executive presence often based on traditional masculine norms. She notes that the modern workplace, created by men for men, still reflects these old standards. Kelli advocates for redefining executive presence to honor individual styles and values. She shares her experience of balancing directness with respect and love, showing how to align personal authenticity with effective leadership. [18:27] Kelli discusses the challenge of balancing authenticity with professional expectations, especially regarding dress codes. She recounts her experiences from banking and pharma, where strict dress codes were enforced. Kelli suggests evaluating if you can conform to an organization's dress code before joining. She stresses that while organizations may prefer certain behaviors, the real focus should be on whether these behaviors drive results. Kelli also explains that executive presence often relates more to building relationships and influencing others than to superficial standards. [22:40] Kelli explores the role of adaptability in executive presence, stressing that what works in one region may not in another. Kelli stressed the value of "situational savviness" and detailed how employees should prepare by gathering salary data, quantifying accomplishments, and making a clear ask. She noted that raises may take time and require approvals. Kelli discusses the courage needed to handle requests and the option to set specific performance goals for future raises.  [30:45] Kelli discusses the crucial questions to ask when deciding if it's time to quit something. She outlines key questions to ask before quitting: Is this situation aligned with my values? Is it using my best skills? How does it affect my energy levels? Is it moving me closer to the leader I want to become? If many answers are negative, it might be time to quit. She also explores why people stay in toxic environments, highlighting fear of regret and the unknown. Kelli advises making informed decisions by asking tough questions and understanding your values before making a move. [36:51] Kelli previews her upcoming TED Talk, set to address the harms of putting people on pedestals. She explains how idolizing leaders based on experience or charisma stifles personal ideas and intuition, leads to corporate scandals, and creates feedback gaps. Scheduled for November at Creighton University, her talk will be about ten minutes long and available online in February 2025.
