**Mississippi Appoints First Muslim Woman as Municipal Judge | Assma Ali Sworn In – Benoit, Not Ridgeland** Breaking news: Mississippi has appointed its first Muslim female municipal judge (and possibly its first Muslim judge period). Assma Ali, a Ridgeland-based immigration attorney, was sworn in as municipal court judge for the tiny Delta town of Benoit on August 5, 2026. The story exploded over the weekend with viral claims she had been named judge in Ridgeland. That turned out to be false. Ridgeland's official page quickly denied any appointment. Ali's own vague Facebook posts fueled the confusion before she deleted them and later posted the actual oath of office and town agenda confirming Benoit. This week is part two of our conversation with Old Testament scholar and theologian Dr. John Oswalt to discuss his 2009 book The Bible Among the Myths - Unique Revelation or Just Ancient Literature? John continues to outline his case that the Bible is utterly unique in ancient literature, despite any alleged similarities in its pages with its surrounding pagan cultures often unnecessarily overemphasized by skeptics and critics of the Bible. Dr. John Oswalt Asbury served on the faculty of Asbury Theological seminary from 1970 to 1982 as professor of Old Testament and Semitic languages, and again from 1989 to 1999 as Professor of Old Testament. He rejoined Asbury in 2009 as visiting distinguished professor of Old Testament studies. He has also served as research professor of Old Testament at Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, Miss., from 1999 to 2009, was president of Asbury College from 1983 to 1986, a member of the faculty of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Ill., from 1986 to 1989, and  Interim President of Wesley Biblical Seminary, Ridgeland, MS from April 2019 through March 2020.He is the author of 16 books, most notable of which is the two-volume commentary on the book of Isaiah in the New International Commentary of the Old Testament. His most recent book is The Holy One of Israel: Studies in the Book of Isaiah, released in 2014. He has also written numerous articles that have appeared in Bible encyclopedias, scholarly journals and popular religious periodicals. Dr. Oswalt is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church, with membership in the Kentucky Annual Conference. He has served as a part-time pastor in congregations in New England and Kentucky, and is a frequent speaker in conferences, camps and local churches. **The Truth About Why Black Boys Are Being Killed With Their White Friends** Clay Edwards is joined by Creston Birch, a recently retired 30-year Clinton Police Department veteran, for a raw discussion sparked by a recent incident outside a Flowood Whataburger. Around 1:30 a.m., a group of mostly white teenagers included one Black teen who pointed what turned out to be a realistic toy gun at a white girl's head. A bystander confronted them and called police. Officers arrived to little consequence, and a detective later told the caller that Flowood gets 10–15 similar calls a week involving kids with realistic toy or airsoft guns. Clay shares his own earlier experience witnessing a similar scene in Ridgeland and warns that these look-alike guns create split-second, life-or-death decisions for bystanders and police alike—especially in Rankin and Madison counties. Creston recounts nearly shooting a 14-year-old over a plastic cap gun that fell from a waistband during a late-night stop. The pair walk through documented cases in which children (including Tamir Rice, Andy Lopez, Tyree King and others) were fatally shot after officers or others mistook realistic replicas for real firearms. The conversation expands into parental responsibility, the refusal of many parents to treat the behavior seriously, racial double standards in how these stories are framed, and the broader pattern of crime and cultural accountability in the Jackson metro area. Clay challenges the narrative that race is irrelevant until a Black child is the one shot, and both hosts stress that pointing any gun—real or toy—at another person in public is an act that invites deadly force. Later segments include the 1973 kidnapping of J.
