In this episode of the podcast from the church, Pastor Karl concludes the study of Matthew chapter 9, highlighting Jesus' revelation of His power through a series of remarkable miracles. He explains Matthew's Jewish perspective, portraying Jesus as the promised Messiah and Anointed One, contrasting this with other Gospel accounts. He recaps the structure of Matthew, noting how chapters 8–9 demonstrate Jesus' authority over disease, death, and demonic forces through ten miracles, while also showing the kinds of people who desperately approach Him.The core message centers on true faith: it arises not merely from believing Jesus can help, but from admitting that nothing else can. Pastor Karl unpacks the encounters in Matthew 9:18–34—the synagogue ruler pleading for his deceased daughter, the woman with a 12-year hemorrhage who touches Jesus' garment in faith (possibly connecting to Malachi's prophecy of healing in His "wings" or "corners"), the two blind men calling Him "Son of David" and trusting in His mercy alone, and the deliverance of a mute, demon-possessed man whose condition defied traditional Jewish exorcism methods. Through these stories, he emphasizes that desperate faith, even if imperfect or "weak," directed toward the right Savior—Jesus—releases God's power. Faith often requires a public "touchpoint" of expression, removing unbelieving voices that sound logical but hinder God's work, and ultimately trusting in God's mercy rather than demanding specific outcomes.Pastor Karl closes by applying the passage to the church's present moment, noting the explosive community growth in their area—with thousands of new residents and students arriving soon—as evidence that "the fields are ripe for harvest." Jesus' compassion on the harassed and helpless crowds compels believers to pray for workers and step into the harvest themselves, making this not just a message about miracles but about the church's responsibility to reach those in need with the gospel of the kingdom.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm
Loneliness keeps rising even as our screens glow brighter, and we wanted to understand why—and what to do about it. We start by reordering the foundations of daily life: God first, then spouse, then family and neighbor. That simple hierarchy changes how we spend time, handle stress, and make sacrifices. Proverbs 5 calls husbands and wives to mutual faithfulness that is lived, not just promised. Matthew 17 reminds us that a mustard seed of faith can move the mountains in our homes and hearts, while a coin in a fish's mouth shows how God provides in the most practical moments. Psalm 22 gives voice to anguish without giving up on trust. From the personal we zoom out to the civic. We honor James Brady's Medal of Honor courage, then look to John Adams' stark warning about unrestrained democracy: passion without guardrails can turn into a mob. We examine how erasing uncomfortable history—whether French terrors, totalitarian purges, or our own national failures—only blinds us to the lessons that keep a republic healthy. Facing the record honestly strengthens love of country because it anchors hope in truth rather than myth. This conversation aims to equip you with grounded steps: choose people over pixels, set a clear order in your home, practice small daily acts of love, read hard history with open eyes, and cultivate a faith that acts. There is an interesting story in Mark's gospel, Chapter 9, about an unnamed man who brought his son to Jesus for healing. This compassionate father said that his son had been sick since he was a child. Jesus told the father that "all things are possible to him that believes." Then the man said something that we all can relate to: "Lord, I believe; help thou my unbelief." How much faith does it take for God to hear us? That's our subject for today - "Mustard-Seed Faith." Fr. Eric reflects upon the Parable of the Mustard Seed and the Sycamore Tree (Lk 17:5-6) in speaking about how we are invited to have faith in the power of God. This is a live recording of a homily that Fr. Eric gave on Oct. 5, 2025 at St. James in Colgan, Ontario. As a key example, Fr. Eric refers to an episode of "Britain's Got Talent" involving a singer named Gruffydd Wyn Roberts. Fr. Eric refers also to the film "Rocky 2" (1979) starring Sylvester Stallone and Talia Shire. Deacon Al Lundy uses stories about family, vacations, and planning to explore different ways people live their faith. Drawing on the readings for the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Habakkuk, 2 Timothy, Luke), he highlights patience, perseverance, and the courage the Holy Spirit gives believers. He challenges listeners to grow their "mustard-seed" faith, make room for prayer and worship in whatever way works for them, and serve with humility while trusting God's timing and judgment. Fr Rob Galea says that God only asks for a small "mustard seed" of faith—a willingness to trust Him even without full understanding. In surrendering our little faith, God can transform it into something beautiful, so believers are encouraged not to despair but to bring their doubts honestly to Jesus

After the mountaintop moment of transfiguration, Jesus and His disciples descend into the valley of spiritual powerlessness and desperate need. The disciples' failure to cast out a demon wasn't due to lack of technique, but lack of dependence—a reminder that yesterday's faith can't power today's battles. True, mountain-moving faith flows not from past experience but from present connection to Jesus through prayer and fasting.
Pastor Jim walks through a series of Elisha's miracles in 2 Kings, revealing how God shows up not only in national crises but also in everyday needs. From multiplying oil for a widow, to reviving a child, to recovering a lost axe head, each story testifies to God's compassion and power in the lives of His faithful remnant. Jim encourages listeners to bring both their biggest fears and smallest concerns to God, trusting in Jesus, the greater Elisha, who meets us in the details with resurrection hope, daily provision, and steadfast love.
Effective faith is not about the quantity of your faith, but the object and posture of your faith.
At Redeemer, our pathway is how we seek to embody our vision and mission, or in other words, put it into practice. We desire every person to enter into intentional apprenticeship to Jesus, to be in a diverse, loving community, and to live in Wichita as witnesses. “The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men and women into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became man for no other purpose.” – CS Lewis At Redeemer, we take seriously Jesus' call to “Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Apprenticeship to Jesus is not a one time decision, but a lifelong journey of following Jesus as our master-teacher. Since the goal of the Christian life is maturity in Jesus, apprenticeship must be deep and holistic, transforming the spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and vocational parts of men and women. Apprenticeship to Jesus is learning to practice the way of Jesus in our homes, relationships, neighborhoods, and jobs. We believe Christlikeness is cultivated as we implement spiritual practices, live in community with other believers, and submit to the Word and the Spirit. We agree with Dallas Willard who said, “that the gospel is opposed to earning, not effort.” As we move towards cultivating a life of loving God and people, we trust Christ will mature us into his likeness. https://redeemerwichita.church/
In this inspiring episode of “Mustard Seed Faith, Moving Mountains,” presented by Jim Murrell, we explore how the tiniest seed of faith can transform your life. Drawing on powerful passages from Matthew, Luke, and Mark, we delve into the mystery of faith revealed in scripture—from the profound lessons of Peter stepping out of the boat to the relentless determination of the woman with the issue of blood. We break down faith into three dynamic elements: its inherent power (as seen in the surprising strength of the mustard seed), its incredible potential to grow when nurtured, and its promise to provide when acted upon. Discover why Jesus emphasizes genuine, quality faith over sheer size, and learn how trusting Him in small things can set the stage for life-changing miracles. Whether deepening your spiritual walk or looking for a fresh perspective on trusting God, join us as we uncover timeless truths that prove even the smallest seed of faith can move mountains.
