Voor Cusa is waarnemen een vorm van zoeken — en elk zoeken begint met een vermoeden. Wat we waarnemen, roept iets op wat daarbovenuit stijgt, en er tegelijk de grond van vormt. Geen waarneming zonder verlangen. Deze mystiek-filosofische tekst uit 1445 verschijnt hier voor het eerst in een heldere Nederlandse vertaling van Inigo Bocken. De uitgave wordt voorafgegaan door een toegankelijke inleiding en aangevuld met twee boeiende essays over Cusa's scherpe, soms gewaagde denkstrategieën (Inigo Bocken), en hoe die resoneren met de veelstemmige muziek en de schilderkunst van zijn tijd (Björn Schmelzer). Een uitnodiging tot kijken, denken en vermoeden — en tot het herontdekken van mystiek als een levende intellectuele traditie. Inigo Bocken is wetenschappelijk medewerker van het Titus Brandsma Instituut, UHD aan de Faculteit voor Filosofie, Theologie en Religiewetenschappen van de RU en hoogleraar mystieke theologie aan de KU Leuven. Björn Schmelzer is zelfstandig onderzoeker en artistiek leider van het vocaal ensemble Graindelavoix dat wereldwijd bekend is voor hedendaagse en kritische interpretatie van polyfone muziek.
