God knows that we will grow weary in this life under the sun. But in this amazing verse, he calls the saints to keep on keeping on. Not only does he exhort us to persevere, but he motivates us with the truth that there will be a reward in due time. What does all of this mean to the saint today? Keith Pond examines the power of this passage as he continues his series on Anchor Points.
The Pasuk says in this week's Parasha Teruma, “דבר אל בני ישראל ויקחו לי תרומה – Hashem tells Moshe Rabbenu to tell the people to take a donation for Him.” The commentators ask, why doesn't it say to give a donation? One explanation is because it is not possible to give anything to Hashem; everything already belongs to Him – “לי הכסף לי הזהב נאום ה' – Hashem owns all the money in the world.” When a person makes a donation, he is taking from Hashem's money. Hashem, in His kindness, gives us the opportunity to get credit for our decisions to give tzedaka, but it is His money that we're giving. It is so important to remember that every dollar that we have in our possession has come to us only because it was the will of Hashem. Investments are not what make us money; customers buying our products are not what make us money. Only Hashem gives us money and the way we get it is just a camouflage. Therefore, we should not involve ourselves in second guessing business decisions and the like. The bottom line is, if we were meant to make money, the decision we made would have produced it. I read a story about Rav Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld. He once had a baby boy but didn't have the funds to make the Brit Mila. He had a certain lottery ticket that he received from a bank in Austria and he sold it to his doctor for a few gold coins and used that money to make the Mila with. A couple of weeks later, the doctor came back to the Rabbi and told him the ticket won 100,000 gold coins, a huge sum of money. He said to the Rabbi, “It was really your ticket. I feel guilty. I want to give you some of the money because, technically, you deserve it.” Rabbi Zonnenfeld immediately replied, “A ticket is not what wins a lottery. A person wins a lottery. Hashem wanted you to win the lottery and that's why you won. If I would have had that ticket, it would have lost.” Simple, pure Emunah. Our money comes to our possession only because of Hashem, not because of the means we chose to make it. But Hashem does let us choose what we want to do with that money and, when we give tzedaka with it, we are the ones gaining the most. A man told me he had a baby and received a bill from the hospital for $3200. This was a hospital who accepted his insurance so he called them to ask why they're charging so much, and maybe reduce the fee, but he wasn't getting anywhere with them. This man's brother learns in a Kollel and, from time to time, he calls the Kollel to donate some extra money to help support his brother. A couple of weeks after he had this baby, he donated $500 dollars to the Kollel towards helping his brother. The administrative office of that Kollel told him his brother encountered some unexpected expenses and could really use a little extra help. He thought about it and he really wanted to give more, but he wasn't able to give what he wanted to at that time. He told the administrator, “I'm a little tight right now, but nonetheless, I'm going to commit myself to giving $250 a month for the whole year plus the $500 now.” Three days later, the hospital calls this man and says, “Your insurance company just paid us more than we expected so we're going to reduce your $3200 bill to a zero balance.” The man thought to himself, “I just stretched myself to donating $3250 and then Hashem said, ‘Don't worry about your $3200 bill anymore, I'll take care of that for you.'” Hashem is in charge of our finances. Everything we have is His, but we can take the money and use it for good and earn Eternal Reward. Shabbat Shalom.

Pr. Nick preached about having faith to believe when the stakes are high as we looked at the story of Moses from Exodus and Hebrews 11:23-27. ✨ It's easy to believe in something when there is not a lot at stake God has a plan for each one of us. God doesn't do anything without purpose. ✨ He doesn't waste time. He doesn't waste a word. He doesn't waste a miracle. He does everything perfect - He can't do it another way. He doesn't make mistakes, there is no random. A lot of our struggle with personal identity comes from a misinformed view of God and His word. ✨ If what we are in what we look like or have (appearance, status, abilities, etc.) is our identity then we are truly misunderstanding what the Bible has to say - which is that we were born in the image of God. Created by Him. God is going to use the context for which you were born into for His glory. He is already doing it. He is going to use your story for His story. ✨ Moses saw that he was being held in the hands of a God He could not see and yet a power that was greater than what he could… …That God's plan could be trusted even when the stakes were so high and his life was on the line. Moses led the captives out of slavery in Egypt … …Just as Jesus leads us out of our eternal and spiritual bondage in order that we would have life in His name. We don't know what is ahead but we place by faith what is ahead in the hands of the only One who knows. The God of Moses is the same God we worship today! ✨ What God was doing in Moses He can do in you. Moses was just an ordinary guy sent into extraordinary circumstances in life. Jesus Tells Us of Eternal Reward . . . And the Reverse The Homily opens again with St James letter (not included within this audio). Scripture recounts someone who has stored up his treasures for the last days. Worldly goods are stored. Scripture says lets look at your wealth. You withheld wages from your workers. How will that help you in your last days?! You exploited others! That is not really going to help you in your last days! James does not say . . . if you are wealthy you are damned. No! There is a danger when one gives oneself over to profit or worldly goods. Hear more about what James tells us! In the Gospel, there is a similar theme that Jesus speaks to us! A simple thing . . . a simple act of giving someone a cup of water, because they are connected to the Lord. . . has a touch of eternity. Then Jesus continues the discussion. If one causes a little one to pull away from the Lord . . . Or, if one focuses only on worldly goods . . . He describes what will happen! Listen to what the Lord tells us about Eternal Reward . . . and What We Need to Do Now! Listen to this Meditation Media.
Sign-up for my free 20 day devotional, The Word Before Work Foundations, at http://TWBWFoundations.com Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him. (Ephesians 6:5-9)Today, we conclude our study of Ephesians with a passage that contains some of the most direct instructions about work in all of Scripture for both “slaves” and “masters” (or in our modern parlance, employees and employers).First, let's look at the most obvious commands. If you work for someone else, Paul commands you to obey them “with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.” If you employ others, you are to “treat your [team] in the same way”—with respect, honor, and a lack of favoritism. Those are the clearest and most direct commands in this passage. But I'd also invite you to take a closer look at verses 7-8, which command all of us to “serve wholeheartedly” at work. Why is Paul calling us to work with enthusiasm?First, because in serving others at work we are “serving the Lord” (verse 7). This is our primary motivation for doing wholehearted, exceptional work. Excellence is ministry and part of how we love our employers, employees, and customers as ourselves and glorify our great God. That is motivating in and of itself. But let's not ignore the fact that Paul also holds out extrinsic rewards for good work as a secondary motivator. You see it right there in verse 8: “Serve wholeheartedly…because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.” This is far from the only place that Paul claims that there are eternal rewards tied to how we steward our vocations (see 1 Corinthians 3:5-9, 1 Corinthians 3:11-15, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, and Hebrews 6:10-12). Jesus also suggested the same thing in the Parable of the Talents (see Matthew 25:14-30).Scripture couldn't be clearer: There are eternal rewards for how we work in this life and it is good and right for those rewards to lead us to care deeply about serving others, and by extension the Lord, through the ministry of excellence at work. May that promise lead you to work with great enthusiasm today!
