And once that is settled, Ken reads an HP Lovecraft story. "The Nameless City" was published 1921 in The Wolverine. Email us at 5050artsproduction@gmail.com. In the Nameless City, death is just the beginning—and justice is a long, haunted road. Detective Sergeant Hank Jones thought he'd seen it all. But when unnatural darkness falls over the city and the dead begin to vanish, he and his new partner Creed are forced to cross borders no soul was ever meant to pass. As they chase whispers of a rising threat known only as The Weaver, the line between duty and damnation blurs, and the only thing more dangerous than the things hunting them… might be the truths they uncover. Step back into the noir-soaked shadows of the afterlife in this gritty, supernatural detective tale from Rory Dwane, where loyalty is tested, monsters wear many faces, and the city never truly sleeps. It lay silent and dead under the cold desert moon, but what strange race inhabited the abyss beneath those cyclopean ruin? The Nameless City by H. P. Lovecraft, that's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born in 1890 in Providence Rhode Island. If you like weird, wacky, horror fantasy science fiction, Lovecraft could be just what you've been looking for. Lovecraft's stories have been done so much we chose not to narrate them until today. So, why are we featuring H. P. Lovecraft today? Requests. Lots of them. And now that we've narrated one, there will be more.He started writing at the age of seven, Howard Lovecraft, not H. P., is credited with writing The Young Folks' Ulysses. He was fourteen when he began writing The Beast in the Cave, first published in the June 1918 issue of the amateur journalism publication The Vagrant. One of the 20th century's most influential writers the master of weird and a frequent contributor to, appropriately, Weird Tales magazine. In fact more than a hundred of his stories appeared in Weird Tales. And that's where we found today's story. But it was published first in Fanciful Tales of Time and Space, in their Fall 1936 issue, on page 5, The Nameless City by H. P. Lovecraft…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, No one knows the heart of a rebel until his own search for the reason of right or wrong is made. In the city of strange wonders, the lure of the flame drew them on and on… destruction loomed ahead… The City of Singing Flame by Clark Ashton Smith, that's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.Today marks the debut of Clark Ashton Smith on our podcast. Smith was born in California in 1893. He was an insatiable reader with a photographic memory. He read an unabridged dictionary word for word, studying the definitions of the words and their origins. He read the complete 11th edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica at least twice. He started writing at 11. By 14 he had written a short adventure novel titled The Black Diamonds which was lost for decades until was published in 2002 more than 41 years after his death.Smith was poor most of his life and often did manual labor jobs like fruit picking and woodcutting to provide for himself and his parents. To say he was a prolific writer of horror and science fiction would be a huge understatement. Between 1929 and 1934 he wrote more than a hundred short stories. He began corresponding with Robert E. Howard and H. P. Lovecraft and the three of them became friends although they never met.Clark Ashton Smith was praised by his peers, H. P. Lovecraft said, “in sheer daemonic strangeness and fertility of conception, Clark Ashton Smith is perhaps unexcelled” and Ray Bradbury said that Smith, “filled my mind with incredible worlds, impossibly beautiful cities, and still more fantastic creatures”. You are about to discover what Lovecraft and Bradbury were talking about.Turn back the clock 93 years and go to page 202 in Wonder Stories magazine, July 1931, The City of Singing Flame by Clark Ashton Smith…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, It lay silent and dead under the cold desert moon, but what strange race inhabited the abyss beneath those cyclopean ruin? Hey y'all! Our brave heroes have had it rough. As soon as they reached Shady Creek Run they were attacked by Dragonborn, and Valkaria realized that the key to the city that her father gave her, is gone. They, along with the rest of the villagers of Shady Creek Run, make a run towards the river to avoid the burning city. Our heroes are tired, wounded, at a loss for what comes next. But, at least they have each other. And surprisingly, Althindrin is keeping an eye in the sky on them. We narrowly avoid getting seen by a group of Dwindalian Empire Knights, and slowly figure out what the next steps are. It's never a dull moment with our heroes of The Nameless City, and a chaotic Goose.
Hey y'all! Our adventure continues with our daring trio. After escaping a werewolf monster attack in a shady Inn dangling on a precipice; one of our girlies receiving a hell puppy, and another finding a gorgeous ivory comb after having been through way more than anyone's fair share of beauty mishaps, our heroes-in-training finally come across Shady Creek Run. Let's not forget that this "lovely" town is a haven for every low-life possible. Which means nothing is going to go smoothly. Did we expect anything less? No. Were we hoping for a little break in the disasters? Yes. When I say things don't go smoothly, what I mean to say is that shit goes way sideways not only does our group get their asses handed to them, but they also lose something. Something important. What will happen next? Stay tuned for more!
Hey y'all!Greetings guests, and welcome to Moon Keeper Inn! Our one-star inn is precariously tucked between cliffs and suspended over a massive ravine that will be sure to knock your socks off! Hey, y'all!I have but one thing and one thing only to say: Dry Grass BurnsNo, nothing was set on fire, our trio did not burn down or destroy the festival, but they did cause a raucous, possibly getting themselves banned from future festivals. You know, as they do. Sir Goosington, of course, is the culprit to most of the chaos. As per usualEnjoy!

Hey y'all!Welcome back to the festival! We've won some prizes, we've made some "friends", we've partaken in more tournaments and wowed the audience as Jaz'Zara shows them all what a real ranger can do. Not only that, but Valkaria gets to go on her first date! And let's not forget the magically imbued ring that Valkaria commissions from Qwak. Magic that is hit or miss at best, and either flings Valkaria towards her staff, or hurls the staff to her. Magic - what can you do?Speaking of magic, Valkaria begins to understand the extent of her magic as she nearly takes out our beloved Asha during a maze. And clearly, Asha will wreak her vengeance.Festivities and prizes and drinks aside, our trio encounters some disturbing scenes; broken lanterns, blood, a body (maybe more). What sinister plots have our trio gotten themselves tangled up into this time?

Hey y'all! So we've met some Moos, found a festival, Jaz'Zara qualified for an archery tournament, Val ended up with a date and performed a magic show, and Asha won a river race and showed everyone what an unrestrained Dhamphir from the house of Kell can really do. And she, was, AMAZING! Y'all,..unless you want a jetfire in your face, do not compete with Asha. You'll just have to listen to find out how it happens, and how it ends!
Hey y'all!Remember how I said our D&D tea time was our last episode of September for all things D&D related?Sike! (I know I'm late to posting this but shush)Our heroes have saved Palebank, got drunk like they've never before - with Jaz'Zara crawling out from under the bar, Asha asleep under a mound of blankets by the hearth, and Valkaria asleep in the chandelier...surprised? Neither are we.The journey south towards Xorhas begins, and on the way our friends come across a festival....and Valkaria comes across something/someone extremely unexpected.Curios? You'll just have to listen to find out!
This time Jay and Ken discuss H.P. Lovecraft's The Nameless City.
Hey y'all! It's been a long , hard road for our trio, but they've finally made it back to Palebank, with the Frozen Woe antidote in hand! After being abducted by a cult, traumatizing an bandit with a frozen fish, flying on Griffins, coming face to face with a wraith scientist, and so much more, our friends finally land back in Palebank. But are they in time to save the friends they made from dying a slow and torturous death?P.S. The raccoon prophecy has come to fruition. Beware raccoons.
Hey y'all!Welcome back to another Nameless City adventure! Our friends find themselves on a ship-fort (literally 3 giant ships tied together to create a village) called Vurmas, and met with not so friendly glares. Unused to hostility when met, Valkaria, Jaz'Zara, and Asha are uncomfortable and confused to say the least. While Asha spends most of her time with the fort healer, Jaz and Val walk on eggshells as they peruse the fort, with guards at their heels at every turn. Our trio gets a rude awakening into how the surface works, and the realization that the location of their home is not met with the regular niceties they're used to.
Hey, y'all! We are back with more of our Nameless City campaign!I know we took a detour with our Temple of the Golden Goose one shot, but wasn't it fun?!Anywho, back in Exandria our heroes went through some stuff: Asha met the Moonweaver; Valkaria got engaged, very briefly; and Jaz....Jaz just wants a nap.Let's not forget Orvo, our groups guide to Ayor and back, becuase if we're being honest, we forgot about Orvo. Orvo I'm sure is not going to leave his house for the forseeable future and I don't blame him.So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
Hey, y'all!Welcome back to another Nameless City adventure! Our daring trio has made it to Salsvault, found the antitode to the Frozen Sick, and Valkaria really tried to collect heads/skulls to make a golemn.....Val's interests are expanding now that she's in a whole new world on the surface; poor Asha is just riddled with anxiety and up to her wit's end with all the surface shenanigans; and Jaz'Zara is wondering if she should just knock Val out for the rest of the trip to avoid more chaos. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!
In which Tod and Claire discuss HP Lovecraft's The Nameless City, which was first published in the November, 1921 issue of The Wolverine. Please know that this is a horror podcast, and may not be suitable for everyone, especially if you have problems with claustrophobia and the 20th Century plunder of archeological sites. We talked about John Shirley's Lovecraft Alive! from Hippocampus Press and you should buy it and read it.We also mentioned "The Austin Frog" which is more properly referred to as simply Hi, How Are You.Here's this year's Human Era Calendar from Kurzgesagt but wait until October or so and they'll print a new one for 12,024. They make great gifts for archeology nerds. If you need to calculate HE dates on the fly, the Holocene Era Calculator works pretty well. Also, here's the Arkham Horror AH:TCG expansion, Guardians of the Abyss, which we are convinced is impossible to win. HP Lovecraft's The The Nameless City, which was first published in the November, 1921 issue of The Wolverine, as read by Tod Beardsley in July of 2023.Please know that this is a horror podcast, and may not be suitable for everyone. This story in particular contains depictions of amateur, penetrative archeology by an imperialistic foreigner; various supernatural winds and sandstorms; claustrophobia and sightless spelunking; a very frightened camel who presumably dies alone in the desert; the mummified remains of prehistoric lizardmen; a portal to the hollow Earth; and an attack of a million ghosts. If these topics are likely to upset you, please skip this episode. On the other hand, if you like this episode and this sort of thing, be sure to leave a glowing review on your podcast app of choice. Hey, y'all! After a long and much-needed rest, our party is back on the road and closer to Salsvault than they know. As soon as they happen upon their destination, you know things are not going to go smoothly. With zombies, an undead mad scientist that can only be Sal himself, inanimate objects trying to unalive them and gods know what else, the party (and a very unwilling Orvo) venture deeper into the vault hoping they can find the cure to the Frozen Sick and actually make it out alive. That being said if they can get through the vault at all without wild magic wreaking havoc among and around them: say like...turning one of our party into a llama. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!
Hey y'all!Welcome back to another Nameless City adventure! Our cadre finally makes it across the sea and back onto land, but is all well on the new horizon they face? Suffice it to say, Valkaria does not make any friends this time around, still grumpy from near death and sea sickness; Asha is just happy to focus on the task at hand, sans battle. While our young and brave adventurers are busy gathering intel and supplies, the town of Syrinlya finds itself at the center of a rampage, led by none other than Sir Goosington. Why? Well...why not? Sir Goosington has his own agenda, and we are not privy to the workings of Gooseville.....yet
