Set in May 1961, the play is inspired by Taylor's conversations with writer Max Lerner as they discuss plans for a biography.  Through a morning session with Lerner at The Beverly Hills Hotel, Taylor rediscovers her sense of self following her 1961 Academy Awards triumph and recovery from a nearly fatal battle with pneumonia. The play examines Taylor's career, life, and loves, chronicling her survival in the face of adversity and tragedy, and illuminating the core compassion of her character that inspired her later activism in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  Kayla is a Chicago-based artist whose credits include productions with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Drury Lane Theatre, Porchlight Music Theatre, Mercury Theater Chicago, Music Theater Works, BrightSide Theatre, Citadel Theatre, Fireside Theatre, Capital City Theatre, Bigfork Summer Playhouse, and The Huron Playhouse. As an arts administrator, she has worked in development, marketing, and finance for Goodman Theatre and Writers Theatre, and she has served as a producer for Steppenwolf Theatre Company's Garage Rep series.  As a consultant for the Artistic Fundraising Group, her portfolio included work for Arts of Life, BrightSide Theatre, Chicago Composers Orchestra, Chicago Mosaic School, Oak Park Festival Theatre, and Snow City Arts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she served as Executive Director of The Youngstown Playhouse and she holds a BA in Professional Writing & Editing from Youngstown State University. He explains how this can help you be the best version of yourself when you walk into the audition room. Super. important. stuff!MNTR MGMTWebsite@mntr.mgmt@justinementerJohn SovecWebsite@johnsovectherapy John Sovec, MA, LMFT: I am a therapist, coach and counselor in Pasadena, CA who will help you to reconnect to the things that matter in your life. More than just talk therapy, you and I will work together to uncover the blocks that are keeping you stuck and open up new paths of understanding that will help you to create the life you desire. When you arrive at my office, centrally located in Old Town Pasadena, you will experience a truly unique therapeutic environment. Some days we may sit and focus on the narrative of your life, other days we may do art projects to unlock your thought process, or even take a walk around to stimulate the process of sharing. Yoga, reading, awareness exercises and meditation are other tools that I invite into our work together. So, what makes all of these processes work? It is my training as an alumnus of Phillips Graduate Institute where I primarily focused on a Post-Modern Narrative approach to therapy. This style recognizes you as the expert of your life experience and creates a collaborative and respectful approach to the work. This collaborative style is highly effective in developing you as an agent of change in your own life even when you are feeling flooded by depression, anxiety, grief, low self-esteem, and stress. And of course, I really enjoy working with teens. I have received additional training in school-based therapy, positive adolescent development, teen addiction, and non-violent communication which I bring to my work with adolescents.I am also a nationally recognized expert on the coming out process for LGBT teens and I work with both teens and their families to ease the experience and open up channels for communication and understanding. My office is an affirming space for the LGBTQ community for individual, family, and couples workThere's lots more to tell and I am open to answer your questions when we speak in person. Hi! My name is Amara Barroeta and I'm the owner of Amara Chocolate & Coffee in Old Town Pasadena. I'm not a restaurant business guru or a famous chef, so when I was invited to be a speaker at Friday Coffee Meet Up I was very honored and excited, and without hesitation I said: ‘yes I'd love to!' And when I started developing today's talk I got really scared and said: what can I offer these people, some of them entrepreneurs, maybe they have been in business longer than myself, or belong to different industries? And after digging for a while and inserting the crying emoji in my keyboard several times, the answer was plain and clear: the best I can share with them is my personal story, a story of Chocolate: with lots of bitter and sweet moments, but full of satisfactions. The story of transforming my life from what it was 10 years ago back in Venezuela where I worked in media and entertainment as a journalist while finishing my degree as a chemical engineer, to owning Amara Chocolate in Pasadena's very competitive dining environment. Amara's have become a destination for locals, visitors and foodies alike; we have been featured in top publications and TV shows, and have been awarded as Best dessert, Best South American Food and Best Independent Coffee House for the last 7 years by Pasadena Weekly to name a few. Thus, looking back at my journey and seeing all the challenges that I have overcome being an immigrant and starting my own business has allowed me to stay passionate for what I do, developing a clear path to continue growing, and finding spaces to give back to my community. So, is there a secret sauce for that? Let's find out! Bio: Amara Barroeta is the owner of Amara Chocolate & Coffee Cafe in Pasadena, California. Originally from Venezuela, Amara emigrated to the United States to get her MBA at UCLA in 2010. Prior to leaving Venezuela, she was crowned first runner-up in the Miss Venezuela pageant in 2002. And not long after that, she graduated from university with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a specialization in food processing. Somewhat surprisingly though, it was her experience as a beauty queen that opened up a world of opportunities, including a chance to travel the world (and most often, to Hollywood) as a television newscaster. Amara traveled to stay in the US when she began her studies at UCLA. She didn't know then that Los Angeles would become her new home. But increasing political unrest and corruption in her home country, as well as a deep appreciation and love for America led Amara to decide to stay permanently in the United States, where she opened and successfully runs Amara Chocolate & Coffee Cafe. Utilizing her background in chemical engineering, her MBA, and her the bright, friendly personality that served her well in her beauty queen days, Amara spends her days happily serving coffee, food, and chocolate to her steadfast customers and getting involved with local organizations helping the Venezuelan community in SoCal and abroad. In 2017 she spoke about her experience as an immigrant on the TEDxPasadena stage. In 2018 she was invited as the host/moderator of The Refugee Forum of Los Angeles. Dan Whitmore possesses some of the rarest books on the planet. The art of publishing and design around a first edition. “A first edition book, for me, is representative of where I was in my life at the time and who I was when I was reading it” -Dan Whitmore There are design books, books about design, about designers. Designers use books in their designs and then there are the types of books from which designers might design an entire room. Dan Whitmore is the proprietor of Whitmore Rare Books. He is a true fan of books, yes. But he is both a collector and purveyor of first editions, rare books and artistically bound treasures. I made the journey to Old Town Pasadena which really is the perfect place for his store. When I walked in, I got a little ‘Harry potter’ kind of feeling. The smell of aged paper and leather. Dan is an interesting guy. Starts his business out of a lifetime passion for old books, collecting and pursuing. For Dan, his pursuit of first editions and collectable books is much like that of an art collector, wine collector or any true collector for that matter. Some of these can fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars if not more. Dan and I talk about what is inside, outside and throughout some of the most rare and sought after in his collection. This is the story of a trained and formerly practicing attorney who decided to turn a page in his career and chase his passion for rare books. This is Dan Whitmore.
