In one blinding moment in July 1945 on the white sand desert of New Mexico, humanity entered the nuclear age. Project Trinity was the first nuclear explosion, paving the way for the nuclear incineration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki three weeks later, and the ensuing arms race that plagues us still. The communities living near the Trinity site are known as the Downwinders. They continue to experience high levels of cancer and other illnesses attributable to radioactive contamination since 1945. TESLA RAISES PRICES FOR SECOND TIME IN DAYS ON RISING COSTS - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) raised its prices in China and the United States for the second time in less than a week, after CEO Elon Musk said the U.S. electric carmaker was facing significant inflationary pressure in raw materials and logistics. - The increases come as costs of raw materials are surging, exacerbated by supply chain disruptions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. - Tesla, which has a diversified supply chain, has bought "millions of euros worth of aluminum" from Russian aluminium giant Rusal, CNBC reported on Monday, citing internal documents. Rusal's billionaire founder Oleg Deripaska has been sanctioned by Britain. A YEAR AGO - The Tesla Model 3 was launched with the promise of a $35,000 base price, but now the base Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive starts at $48,190. That's an increase of $2,000 from its most recent (higher) price, and nearly a third higher than this time last year, when you could get a Model 3 Standard Range Plus for $37,190. - Tesla's other Model 3 variants saw price increases as well. The Model 3 Long Range now starts at $54,490 (up $2,500) and the Model 3 Performance starts at $61,990 (up $3,000). - The base price of the entry-level Model Y Long Range increased $3,000 to $62,990. So the most affordable Model Y now costs about $23,000 more than it did around this time last year. - March 2021 the now-discontinued Model Y Standard Range had cost just $41,190. - The Model Y Performance then was just $62,190. Tesla then increased the base price to $64,990, and it now starts at $67,990. The Model S now starts at $99,990 – an extra $5,000 over the previous price - The performance version also received a $5,000 price increase. Model X surprisingly escaped many previous waves of price increases from Tesla, but not this time. The electric SUV is seeing a price increase of $10,000 to now start at $114,990: - The Plaid version also saw a big price increase, and now it finally sells for more than the Model S Plaid – the fact that it didn't before made no sense. During the same timeframe, many automakers saw a drop, and the industry as a whole saw a decrease of 0.6 percent. - That said, there are certainly other brands that also had a notable increase, such as Acura, Jeep, Mini, and Toyota. At any rate, Tesla's average transaction price rose from $63,263 in January to $65,837 in February. - If we look at the bigger picture, from February 2021 to February 2022, Tesla's average transaction price soared by 14.8 percent. However, the industry average increase year over year is at 11.4 percent. In November 2021, he gave this reply to those who criticised him for comparing VW with Tesla, as per a Reuters report.  "Even if I no longer talk about Elon Musk: he'll still be there and revolutionises our industry and keeps getting more competitive quickly." - the CEO praised Tesla's Giga Texas plant during his visit to Austin for the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival this past weekend, where the VW ID. Buzz has made its first public appearance. - "Elon's new factory - he calls it 'the machine that produces the machine' is impressive: 1.2 km long, 400m wide: all under one roof, no logistics from cell production to the final assembly. Once up and running it will very likely set some new benchmarks." - "I am so happy that we decided a new plant for Wolfsburg. Without that - no chance to compete." - Set to open in 2026, Volkswagen's new state-of-the-art facility will have an annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles. I've met with a number of the people that you know that are in the supply side of this. And it was our estimation, in fact, our whole team went through a really deep dive on this six months ago, that the supply chain has ramped up since Elon built his Gigafactory. And so there's plenty there that does not warrant us to migrate our capital into owning our own factory. The planned 200,000-square-foot lab is designed to accelerate development of the technologies as the company plans to “eventually manufacture” new battery cells and batteries" writes CNBC: "The company currently purchases cells from suppliers such as South Korea-based SK Innovation.  Ford’s new facility will not be a full battery cell production facility like Tesla has or like General Motors has announced as part of $4.6 billion investments in two U.S. battery cell production plants with LG Energy Solution. Meanwhile, deliveries of the vehicle are set for the first quarter of 2022. The original timeline saw the Lyriq going on sale at the end of 2022." so how did GM engineers knock 9 months off the timeframe? asks MotorTrend: "Credit a mix of cost-cutting necessity, a need for speed, the flexibility of a new electric vehicle architecture, and the realization that greater reliance on virtual tools can get the job done.  The Lyriq is part of a new wave of electric vehicles from GM on its new BEV3 electric vehicle architecture, now referred to as the Ultium platform because it uses Ultium batteries developed by the automaker with LG Chem. The first Ultium-based vehicle to hit the market will be the 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup this fall. The Lyriq will be second to bat. Both vehicles are being developed twice as fast as core GM products were created in the past."   And neccessity is the mother of invention. GM slashed costs by $4.5bn annually from 2018, and that forced designers to use virtual development more extensively.Also less reliance on building prototypes, wind tunnels and physical crash tests. Which you can do hundreds of times over without the month it takes to rig a real test car with all the sensors.   So what are the other platforms important to EVs? It will eventually not only replace today’s MEB platform, but also the PPE platform used in the VW group’s larger and more luxurious electric offerings. By 2030, that figure should be at least 90%." says Next Greencar: "By 2030, emissions from Groupe Renault vehicles sold in Europe (i.e. including brands such as Alpine or Dacia) are to be reduced by 65%, but only by 35% worldwide. This suggests the French company expects a significant hybrid share of new car sales in 2030. The CEO also announced that Renault will not develop a new engine for the “last generation” of diesel vehicles. Instead, he said, an existing engine will be adapted. But its R1T electric truck and R1S electric SUV are different from the custom Amazon vans. The consumer models are expected to have a range of 300 miles, compared with 150 for the Amazon vans. The potential development of a mega-plant in the US would represent a massive step forward for Samsung SDI — the battery affiliate of the South Korean tech giant — which to date only has one facility outside of Asia, in Hungary." says Business INsider: "While Rivian has yet to reveal its production targets, Bloomberg reports that the company will try to produce as many as 40,000 new EVs in its first year with that figure eventually rising to 300,000."   Simon Moores, managing director at research group Benchmark Mineral Intelligence: "At a production rate of 40,000 EVs a year, Rivian will need over 7 gigawatt-hours of lithium-ion battery cells annually. If all of this supply is from Samsung that's the equivalent of 12% of the Korean battery maker's annual capacity in 2020. According to the image, posted by Hank Scribner, the car was charging at 174 kW (569 V and 306 A) at 43% of State of Charge (SOC). Over the previous six minutes, the car received 15.562 kWh, which translate to an average of almost 156 kW." says InsideEVs: "Anyway, the 800 V batteries in the new cars from Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai, Kia and Genesis) should be really strong in terms of charging rate. When the German manufacturer first announced the ID.3 and its three battery options (48 kWh, 58 kWh and 82 kWh), it turned out that only the two first would be 5-seaters. The larger battery version was a 4-seater (without panoramic roof option), reportedly because of the weight limitation." says InsideEVs: "It was not good news for the all-electric compact, but now it seems that the issue was somehow solved, as the German configurator offers a 5-seat, 82 kWh battery version (77 kW usable). Three ID.3 (82 kWh) versions are offered, but only one with five seats. With 1,215 units sold across all three variants (including e-Niro, Self-Charging Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid variants), the Niro family was the sixth best-selling model in the UK in February, with the fully electric e-Niro accounting for 757 of these sales. Project Trinity: The "Eye-Ripples" That Induce Sonic Booms & Scatter Our Timeline.

In one blinding moment in July 1945 on the white sand desert of New Mexico, humanity entered the nuclear age. Project Trinity was the first nuclear explosion, paving the way for the nuclear incineration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki three weeks later, and the ensuing arms race that plagues us still. The communities living near the Trinity site are known as the Downwinders. They continue to experience high levels of cancer and other illnesses attributable to radioactive contamination since 1945.
