SUPERMARKETS RIP MOTORISTS OFF Supermarkets have been found to have ripped the British motorists off, due to weak competition allowing them to charge 6p per litre more than they should have. There is no guarantee this will be implemented. Click this BBC News article here, to learn more. SEAT: Los ALFA ROMEO de Volkswagen

El Garaje Hermético de Máximo Sant

Play Episode Listen Later May 9, 2023 18:14

Show #1525 Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Friday 8th July, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. VOLKSWAGEN CEO SAYS EV OUTLOOK IS ‘VERY GOOD,' EXPECTS TO REDUCE DELIVERY TIMES THIS YEAR "The CEO of German automotive giant Volkswagen sought to assuage concerns about electric vehicle sales and semiconductor supplies on Thursday, predicting delivery times for EVs will get shorter as the year progresses." "We're trying to keep delivery times short," Diess said, "but we have a lead time of a year or so currently, so we are ramping up production … five assembly plants are coming into production now. We will see a ramp-up in the second half of the year to really be able to reduce delivery times for our EVs," he added. "There's high demand in Europe and also in the United States."  By the year 2030, VW says it wants at least 70% of its European revenue to come from electric cars. In China and North America, its goal is at least 50% of revenue from EVs." Original Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2022/07/07/volkswagen-ceo-says-ev-outlook-is-very-good.html VOLKSWAGEN ANNOUNCES $20 BILLION EFFORT TO BUILD ITS OWN EV BATTERIES "Volkswagen said it would invest $20.38 billion to build electric vehicle batteries, a move the company says will create 20,000 jobs and generate $20.38 billion in annual sales. The automaker will create a new company called Power Co to oversee the vast effort as VW races to secure enough capacity, materials, and supplies to power its EV ambitions. Power Co will manage VW's entire battery supply chain, from research and development of new technologies to the mining of the raw materials to end-of-life recycling. The news was announced at a groundbreaking ceremony for the company's first battery plant in Salzgitter, a city in Germany's Lower Saxony. “The battery cell business is one of the cornerstones of our New Auto strategy which will make Volkswagen a leading provider of the sustainable, software-driven mobility of tomorrow,” VW CEO Herbert Diess said in a statement. “Establishing our own cell factory is a megaproject in technical and economic terms. It shows that we are bringing the leading-edge technology of the future to Germany!” Original Source: https://www.theverge.com/2022/7/7/23198203/volkswagen-ev-battery-factory-power-co-investment GROUND BREAKING IN SALZGITTER: VOLKSWAGEN ENTERS GLOBAL BATTERY BUSINESS WITH “POWERCO” "Salzgitter is to be a blueprint for cell factories throughout Europe and will set new standards in terms of sustainability and innovation. “What we have put to the test millions of times over with vehicle platforms such as the MQB and MEB will also lay the foundation for establishing cell production: we will be standardizing on the basis of European standards and upscaling. This way, we will combine speed and cost optimization with the highest quality levels“, said PowerCo CEO Frank Blome. Standardization will not only cover equipment, buildings and infrastructure but also products, processes and IT. This way, factories that can rapidly be converted for further product and production innovations will be created. Each factory will be operated 100 percent on electricity from regenerative sources and will be designed for future closed-loop recycling. Volkswagen also unveiled the prismatic unified cell announced at the Power Day in 2021. This allows the flexible use of a raft of different cell chemistries and will be used in up to 80 percent of all Group models. At Salzgitter, unified cells for the volume segment are to be produced from 2025 onwards. In future, the plant is to reach an annual capacity of 40 GWh – enough for about 500,000 electric vehicles. The new unified cell harnesses synergy effects and will reduce battery costs by up to 50 percent. The prototypes produced to date have demonstrated highly promising performance with respect to range, charging times and safety – essential prerequisites for a future industrial standard." Our spies have sent us photos showing different prototypes testing, but this is the first time we are actually able to see one of these test vehicles on the move.   the suspension setup does appear to be considerably stiffer than on lesser versions, so the driving experience should be transformed too. Hyundai has so far not made any performance numbers public, but the Ioniq 5 N will probably have similar power to the EV6 GT, which has 576 horsepower and sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.5 seconds, topping out at 161 mph (260 km/h)." Original Source: https://insideevs.com/news/596854/hyundai-ioniq5-n-hot-version-testing-nurburgring/ EU CLAMPS DOWN ON FAKE PHEV MODELS "Last year, Transport & Environment reported that many PHEV cars for sale in Europe actually use their gasoline engines almost all the time, leading to far more emissions than claimed. The latest data shows that, on average, privately owned PHEVs emit three times more carbon dioxide — and therefore use three times more fuel — than recorded officially. For company cars it is even worse. Plug-in hybrids emit five times more than their official ratings. In theory, a plug-in hybrid has a smallish battery that allows it to travel on electric power alone for 20 miles or so without using the internal combustion engine at all. Beginning in 2025, the EU will significantly reduce the so-called utility factors, which is the share of electric driving that regulators use for calculating CO2 emissions of PHEVs. From 2027, the utility factors of plug-in hybrids will be fully aligned with how they are driven in the real world." The ministry also unveiled measures to encourage trade-ins of older vehicles and support the second-hand market. Last month, Beijing said it was in talks with Chinese EV makers about extending costly subsidies that were set to expire in 2022, aiming to keep a key market growing as the broader economy slows." In addition to increasing fast charger density in its current footprint, EVCS looks to double its network size by 2023. Because its network currently only caters to western states, EVCS has a relatively small presence compared to some of the nationwide charging providers like EVGo and Electrify America. That being said, the company is planning to double its network size by next year and now has the funding in place to get started. The funds will be used to more than double EVCS' network of 600 chargers across the West Coast to 1,500 in the next eighteen months, providing more EV drivers to opportunity to utilize the company's unique unlimited charging subscription model." Original Source: https://electrek.co/2022/07/06/ev-charging-network-evcs/ MORE AMERICANS WOULD “DEFINITELY” GET ELECTRIC VEHICLES, CONSUMER REPORTS SURVEY SHOWS "With gas prices taking a toll on people's wallets, Consumer Reports (CR) has a new survey of what Americans think about battery electric vehicles (EVs) and low carbon fuels. The nationally representative survey of 8,027 American consumers, which was fielded in late January and February, is the largest national survey sample in the history of CR, the nonprofit consumer research, testing, and advocacy organization. The survey finds 71% of Americans express some level of interest in buying or leasing an electric-only vehicle: 14%  would "definitely" buy or lease one if they were to get a vehicle today, 22% would "seriously consider" one, and 35% "might" consider one. The 14% of American drivers who say they would “definitely” buy or lease an electric-only vehicle is up markedly from the 4% who said the same in a 2020. Nearly half of Americans (46%) are unaware of the incentives available to purchase an EV. The survey was fielded January 27 to February 18, when the national average price for gasoline rose from about $3.34 to $3.52 per gallon. Now the average price is about $4.78, according to AAA. Show #1478 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, your trusted source of EV information. It's Wednesday 25th May, and in case you missed it, Martyn is off on his holidays. I'm Blake Boland, and I've gone through every EV story today so that you don't have to! First up, let's look at our headline story for the day. Modified Nissan Ariya To Drive From North To South Pole In 2023 - British adventurer and Guinness World Record holder Chris Ramsey will become the first person in automotive history to drive Pole to Pole in an all electric vehicle in a bid to raise awareness of the climate crisis and the role that electric cars can play in reducing our carbon footprint. - This will be the first time that any vehicle has driven from the Magnetic North Pole to the South Pole, and Ramsey believes it is the ideal way to highlight just what electric vehicles are capable of – even in the most extreme climates. - After nearly four years of planning, the Pole to Pole Expedition is scheduled to start in March 2023, covering 17,000 miles across 14 countries as the team make their way from the Magnetic North to the finish line at the South Pole. - In preparation for the brutal Arctic and Antarctic conditions, Ramsey's expedition Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE will be modified and equipped by Arctic Trucks, a renowned specialist in polar vehicles. They will also provide logistical support and expertise to help plan a safe and accessible route through the most remote and hostile environments on Earth. Original Source : The Expedition – Pole to Pole EV 2022 report rates the US on EV readiness - The transportation sector accounts for approximately 30% of carbon dioxide emissions in the US alone. As the United States and the rest of the world for that matter, continue to lean into the paradigm shift of BEV transportation, more and more countries, states, and their consumers must prepare. A new 2022 report from LeasePlan USA has measured a number of data factors and scored an EV readiness index for all of the US. - The index was based upon five factors: Favorable state legislation and incentives Percentage of EVs on the road Charger to vehicle ratio Charger availability Climate suitability for EVs  Original Source : 2022 report rates the US on EV readiness: How prepared is your state? - Electrek Polestar invests in extreme fast charging battery company StoreDot -Polestar makes first financial investment in another company; becomes shareholder in Israel-based extreme fast charging pioneer StoreDot - StoreDot is pioneering the development of silicon-dominant extreme fast charging batteries for electric vehicles. The Israel-based company aims to produce batteries for EVs capable of charging up to 160 km of range in just five minutes, by 2024. - As part of the strategic deal, Polestar is collaborating with StoreDot to explore adapting and applying their technology to proof-of-concept Polestar cars. Test cases already being  explored include customising StoreDot's cell technology for Polestar cars, to enable faster charging and improved circularity. - The new funding comes as part of StoreDot's Series D investment round. Polestar is joining an impressive list of the company's global investors and partners, including Daimler, BP, VinFast, Volvo, Ola Electric, Samsung, TDK and EVE Energy. Parking lots will need to install four Level 2 chargers in order to meet the guidelines. Lots with fewer than 60 parking spaces will be exempt from the new fees. - In a report to the city council, the city staff said, “There would be an incentive to invest in EV charging to avoid the higher annual license fees.” That report estimated it would take gas station and parking lot owners about 8 years to recoup their investment in EV charging equipment. Business owners cited lack of space, lack of available electricity supply, and limited demand for EV chargers as concerns. - According to a city staff report supporting the initiative, it will cost about $135,000 for a gas station to install a DC fast charger. The report also estimates it will cost an average of $100,000 to install four Level 2 EV chargers. Once they are in compliance, the normal yearly business license fee will remain at $163 for parking lots and $263 for gas stations. More specifically, why are investors so willing to pay a massive premium for Tesla over other automakers. Diess explained that markets are "always about the future.” He added: “Tesla currently is in the lead when it comes to EVs, probably also it is the most digital car company already and they have some advantages. We are still aiming at keeping up and probably overtaking by 2025 when it comes to sales.” Original Source : VW CEO Follows GM's Lead, Reiterating Goal To Overtake Tesla By 2025 (insideevs.com)  Tesla Research Partner Publishes Details About 100-Year Battery - If you follow Tesla, you're probably aware of Jeff Dahn and his team of researchers at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. Dahn is the man responsible for the talk about a "million-mile" EV battery, which sounds fascinating, though perhaps not that out of reach. However, more recently, the team with ties to Tesla published a new paper about an energy-dense EV battery that could last 100 years. - Abstract or paper: ‘'NMC cells, particularly those balanced and charged to 3.8 V, show better coulombic efficiency, less capacity fade and higher energy density compared to LFP cells and are projected to yield lifetimes approaching a century at 25 °C.'' Dubbed the 6.0 and 4.0, both e-bikes will have an impressive range of 340 kilometers, or around 211 miles. - The e-bikes are expected to be open for pre-order this summer, with deliveries expected to commence come 2023. As for battery tech, both the 6.0 and 4.0 will come with a 1,670 Wh battery. The buyer will have the option to purchase a 470 Wh extender, which will be necessary in order to achieve the claimed 211-mile range. As for power, it's stronger than most off-the-shelf e-bikes, too, with an 850W brushless electric motor as standard.  - To help riders keep tabs of their journeys, the OPIUM's e-bikes will come equipped with a digital display that shows trip data, route information, and other pertinent info such as battery charge. The total capacity would increase further as demand for Stellantis electric vehicles is expected to rise. - At the Indiana factory, Samsung SDI will be apply its cutting-edge technology PRiMX to produce EV battery cells and modules for the North America market. Last year, Samsung launched its premium battery technology brand PRiMX as an industry first and unveiled the brand at CES 2022 in January. Audi is also offering a special model limited to 520 for the market launch. - The Ingolstadt company will only offer the Q4 in China in the Q4 40 e-tron and Q4 50 e-tron quattro variants. The 40 e-tron is powered by an electric motor in the rear with an output of 150 kW. The 50 e-tron quattro is a four-wheel drive with a maximum output of 220 kW. The top speed is also 160 km/h, just like in this country. - However, there is a difference with the battery. In Europe, the chemical storage unit has a usable energy content of 76.6 kWh. For the Chinese market, on the other hand, it has a capacity of 79.7 kWh, which, according to Chinese standards, should allow a range of up to 605 kilometres. The battery cells with the NCM 811 chemistry come from CATL. There are also differences in the charging time from 5 to 80 per cent: the Q4 40 e-tron takes 29 minutes and the Q4 50 e-tron quattro 36 minutes for the European versions. In China, however, both variants need a full 41 minutes for the charging process. It's Tuesday 10th May, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. FORD F-150 LIGHTNINGS SEEN STOCKPILED AT DEARBORN TEST TRACK - Production of the Ford F-150 Lightning began back on April 26, but instead of all of those electric trucks ending up in the hands of buyers, it seems as though a good chunk of the EV pickups are "starting to pile up the company test track in Dearborn, MI," according to our spy photographers who are on the scene. - Numerous convoys of F-150 Lightning trucks have been seen coming from the direction of Ford's Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, and entering a side entrance at Ford's Dearborn test track. - Could the Lightning be another victim of the semiconductor shortage? Ford has not said anything about this so far, or announced any possible reasons why Lightnings would not reach owners in time, but why else would it be stockpiling them like that? - It may not necessarily be a lack of chips - it could be another supply chain-related issue that is keeping Ford from shipping these off. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/584672/ford-f150-lightning-stockpile-supply-constraints/ VW CEO THINKS THEY CAN SELL MORE ELECTRIC CARS THAN TESLA BY 2025 - Herbert Diess, the CEO of the Volkswagen Group, believes that the German automaker can sell more electric cars than Tesla by 2025. Is that goal even possible? - At the FT Future of the Car 2022 conference today, Diess said that VW has for goal to beat Tesla to the become the top EV automaker by 2025 – though he admitted that it will be difficult (via Reuters): - “It will be a tight race but we won't give up on it. I have to say we didn't expect our main U.S. competitor to be so fast and well-prepared.” - By 2025, Tesla will likely have a production capacity of more than four million electric cars per year. I'd be surprised if VW can jump from 400,000 to four million units in just three years. - With Tesla seemingly being willing to give up the lower-end of the market, there's an opportunity for VW to come in and deliver a lot of volume in the large market of vehicles that start under $30,000. Original Source : https://electrek.co/2022/05/09/vw-ceo-sell-more-electric-cars-than-tesla-2025/ Post | LinkedIn - Spain will be Volkswagen's second European electric vehicle hub after Germany! Therefore Volkswagen Group is investing 7 billion euro in Spain, the overall investment of 10 billion euro including 62 companies in the Spanish #PERTE program - the biggest industrial investment Spain has ever received. - For Volkswagen and SEAT,SA this means: a new Gigafactory in Sagunto close to Valencia supplied by renewable energy, and the electrification of our plants in Martorell and Pamplona. From 2025 onwards several small electric cars of Volkswagen,  CUPRA  and ŠKODA AUTO a.s.  will be manufactured in Spain. - To be very clear: CUPRA is not replacing SEAT, but helping it to become much more profitable. - In times of limited supply of semiconductors for sure we prioritize producing the higher margin CUPRAS over some SEAT entry models. Also for electrifying we prioritize the higher margin CUPRA models or are even launching new models solely under this brand - makes economically a lot of sense. Also our dealers are benefitting from this setup. - So, as SKODA is working well beyond its own brand interest for the group, i.e. designing the new Passat, managing India, taking over platform responsibilities, ….. I am really looking forward for more group contribution from the SEAT team. Predictably coined the E-Transit Custom, Ford has released limited details and several images of the upcoming EV, which like its gas-burning counterpart isn't expected to be sold in America. - Its face is more assertive than the bug-eyed design worn by its internal-combustion stablemate. The electrified version also has chiseled lines around its wheel arches and across its flanks. Just below the passenger-side headlight is a charging port, but Ford hasn't revealed the van's battery capacity or powertrain specs. - E-Transit Custom is expected to have a driving range of around 263 miles on a single charge—we assume this is on the WLTP standard. - E-Transit Custom will start production in the second half of 2023 at its Otosan factory in Turkey. - As with the full-size Ford E-Transit that's sold in the U.S., the smaller Custom model will have Pro Power Onboard, which is a built-in AC power source that's useful at work sites or wherever electricity is needed. It's Thursday 21st April, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. VW'S NEW GROWTH PLAN WILL REDUCE SUPPLY CHAIN VULNERABILITY - Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess said the automaker's new growth plan would aim to reduce its vulnerability to the effects of global conflicts, such as supply chain disruption and rising prices, by divesting more power to its regions and brands. - Diess did not specify which political events he was referring to, but automakers have been hit hard by Russia's invasion of Ukraine as Western sanctions pushed up the price of energy and raw materials. - Diess said the automaker's board saw boosting its China business, growing software division Cariad and reorganizing its brand leadership structure as the most pressing issues facing the automaker. - "Our competitors are no longer called Mercedes-Benz, Toyota Motor Corporation or Stellantis, but Tesla, Foxconn, Apple, LG Electronics, Uber etc.," he said. Original Source : https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/vws-new-growth-plan-will-reduce-supply-chain-vulnerability THE RAM 1500 EV HAS 1 MAJOR ADVANTAGE OVER OTHER ELECTRIC TRUCKS - Last week, Ram CEO Mike Koval confirmed the Ram 1500 EV concept at the New York International Auto Show. Ahead of the 2024 release, the company plans to reveal or preview the electric truck sometime this year. Those who are a part of the Ram Real Talk Tour might get a preview of the EV even before that. - Koval said to Automotive News that Ram has a master plan to give customers the right design for the future lineup. - Electric trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV Pickup will have been on the market for two years (if all goes as planned). The Chevrolet Silverado EV is slated for production in 2023, likely still beating the Ram by a whole year. - It can adjust based on customer feedback by releasing the Ram 1500 EV after the other trucks have been on the market for a bit. Ram will get to learn what people like and don't like and be able to modify certain things as necessary. Automotive gross margins jumped to a record 32.9% with Tesla reporting gross profit of $5.54 billion in its main segment. Regulatory credits accounted for $679 million of automotive revenue for the quarter. - Revenue growth was driven in part by an increase in the number of cars Tesla delivered, and an increase in average sales prices, the company said in its shareholder deck. - “Our own factories have been running below capacity for several quarters,” Tesla said in its shareholder deck. The company did not give detailed guidance on deliveries going forward, but said it expects 50% annual growth on a multi-year basis, and warned that supply chain constraints are likely to continue through 2022. Musk also said that he believes inflation is worse than reported, and will continue through the year. Original Source : https://www.cnbc.com/2022/04/20/tesla-tsla-earnings-q1-2022.html HALF OF TESLAS PRODUCED IN Q1 HAD AN LFP BATTERY - At its Q1 2022 earnings call, Tesla announced that nearly half of all EVs it produced during the quarter were fitted with LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery cells that are free of nickel and cobalt. - While LFP batteries still use lithium, they come with a number of benefits over the standard NCA and NCM batteries that have traditionally been used in electric vehicles. - Tesla announced that almost half the cars that rolled out of its factories during the first three months of 2022 were equipped with LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries. In its official statement released on Wednesday, the company said that its decision to use the new technology is largely based on the fact that "diversification of battery chemistries is critical for long-term capacity growth." - The batteries are expected to help Tesla save on input costs and improve the bottom line as they are significantly cheaper than the Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide (NCA) cells Original Source : https://screenrant.com/tesla-increases-ev-production-lfp-battery/ TESLA SHOWS THAT ORDERS FOR ITS CARS SPIKED AFTER THE SUPER BOWL - his year's Super Bowl was packed with electric car ads from various automakers. Show #1405 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of information. It's Tuesday 15th March, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. TESLA RAISES PRICES FOR SECOND TIME IN DAYS ON RISING COSTS - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) raised its prices in China and the United States for the second time in less than a week, after CEO Elon Musk said the U.S. electric carmaker was facing significant inflationary pressure in raw materials and logistics. - The increases come as costs of raw materials are surging, exacerbated by supply chain disruptions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. - Tesla, which has a diversified supply chain, has bought "millions of euros worth of aluminum" from Russian aluminium giant Rusal, CNBC reported on Monday, citing internal documents. Rusal's billionaire founder Oleg Deripaska has been sanctioned by Britain. Original Source : https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/tesla-raises-prices-some-china-made-vehicles-2022-03-15/ TESLA PRICES RISE AGAIN: AT $48,190, BASE MODEL 3 NOW COSTS A THIRD MORE VS. A YEAR AGO - The Tesla Model 3 was launched with the promise of a $35,000 base price, but now the base Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive starts at $48,190. That's an increase of $2,000 from its most recent (higher) price, and nearly a third higher than this time last year, when you could get a Model 3 Standard Range Plus for $37,190. - Tesla's other Model 3 variants saw price increases as well. The Model 3 Long Range now starts at $54,490 (up $2,500) and the Model 3 Performance starts at $61,990 (up $3,000). - The base price of the entry-level Model Y Long Range increased $3,000 to $62,990. So the most affordable Model Y now costs about $23,000 more than it did around this time last year. - March 2021 the now-discontinued Model Y Standard Range had cost just $41,190. - The Model Y Performance then was just $62,190. Tesla then increased the base price to $64,990, and it now starts at $67,990. Original Source : https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1135329_tesla-prices-rise-again-base-model-3-costs-a-third-more-vs-a-year-ago TESLA INCREASES PRICES THROUGHOUT WHOLE LINEUP - As for the flagship Model S and Model X, they were not spared in the wave of price increases. The Model S now starts at $99,990 – an extra $5,000 over the previous price - The performance version also received a $5,000 price increase. Model X surprisingly escaped many previous waves of price increases from Tesla, but not this time. The electric SUV is seeing a price increase of $10,000 to now start at $114,990: - The Plaid version also saw a big price increase, and now it finally sells for more than the Model S Plaid – the fact that it didn't before made no sense. Original Source : https://electrek.co/2022/03/14/tesla-increases-prices-whole-lineup-cheapest-electric-csr/ INFLATION: TESLA'S AVERAGE TRANSACTION PRICE TOPS ALL BRANDS IN 2022 - Tesla's average transaction price increased by 4.1 percent from January 2022 to February 2022. During the same timeframe, many automakers saw a drop, and the industry as a whole saw a decrease of 0.6 percent. - That said, there are certainly other brands that also had a notable increase, such as Acura, Jeep, Mini, and Toyota. At any rate, Tesla's average transaction price rose from $63,263 in January to $65,837 in February. - If we look at the bigger picture, from February 2021 to February 2022, Tesla's average transaction price soared by 14.8 percent. However, the industry average increase year over year is at 11.4 percent. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/573684/tesla-average-transaction-prices-rise-2022-inflation/ VW GROUP CEO PRAISES TESLA'S GIGA TEXAS DURING AUSTIN VISIT - Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess is an outspoken admirer of Tesla and its boss Elon Musk, praising the EV maker for its achievements and innovation on several occasions. - While the German executive's "bromance" with the US billionaire entrepreneur has annoyed some members of VW Group's board, especially works council boss Daniela Cavallo, Diess has made it clear that Tesla cannot be ignored. In November 2021, he gave this reply to those who criticised him for comparing VW with Tesla, as per a Reuters report.  "Even if I no longer talk about Elon Musk: he'll still be there and revolutionises our industry and keeps getting more competitive quickly." - the CEO praised Tesla's Giga Texas plant during his visit to Austin for the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival this past weekend, where the VW ID. Buzz has made its first public appearance. - "Elon's new factory - he calls it 'the machine that produces the machine' is impressive: 1.2 km long, 400m wide: all under one roof, no logistics from cell production to the final assembly. Once up and running it will very likely set some new benchmarks." - "I am so happy that we decided a new plant for Wolfsburg. Without that - no chance to compete." - Set to open in 2026, Volkswagen's new state-of-the-art facility will have an annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles. The first model to be built there will be the Project Trinity electric saloon. ELECTRIC VW TRINITY TO BE BUILT AT A NEW $2.2-BILLION FACTORY - Volkswagen has announced it has passed a resolution that gives a go-ahead to build a new plant that will build the upcoming all-electric model, the Trinity. The up-and-coming flagship model was first announced in 2021, which will spearhead the next generation of zero-emission VW cars. - The new factory will be built near VW's main plant in Wolfsburg. - VW said investment totals to around €2 billion or around $2.2 billion with the current exchange rates. - Construction for the new Wolfburg plant for the Trinity is set to begin as early as spring 2023. Original Source : https://www.motor1.com/news/571680/volkswagen-2026-trinity-factory-wolfsburg/ VW TO BUILD TRINITY PLANT IN WOLFSBURG - As Manager Magazin now correctly asserts, the “Trinity story is also the story of a power struggle”. According to the report, VW Group CEO Herbert Diess even wanted to get out of Lower Saxony altogether to produce the flagship Trinity project, or at least “outside the brick walls” of the existing Wolfsburg main plant. With his taunts, Diess not only angered the works council but also started a power struggle within the Board. In the end, Diess will now get his plant outside the current plant boundaries, but VW brand chief Ralf Brandstätter, who will soon move to Beijing, is considered the architect behind this solution - Throughout the 2030s, the main plant could then be converted entirely – and Wolfsburg could build up to 750,000 electric cars per year. Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2022/03/03/vw-to-build-trinity-plant-in-wolfsburg/ VW PICKS WOLFSBURG FOR $2.2B EV PLANT TO KEEP UP WITH TESLA - The Trinity sedan will be about the size of the midsize Passat. The car will be aimed at the mass market and targets a range of over 700 km (435 miles). It will be technically ready for Level 4 autonomous driving and will debut VW Group's SSP electric "super platform" that will replace combustion-engine and full-electric platforms used by brands including VW, Skoda, Seat, Audi and Porsche. - VW aims for a production time of 10 hours per vehicle for the Trinity model, similar to how long it will take Tesla to build cars at its new factory in Gruenheide near Berlin. Original Source : https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/vw-picks-wolfsburg-22b-ev-plant-keep-tesla TESLA BERLIN GAINS NEXT STAGE OF APPROVAL – PRODUCTION COULD START THIS MONTY Tesla has gained approval to begin commercial production at its new factory near Berlin, local German officials announced Friday. - The conditional license for the vehicle and battery plants in Brandenburg was expected following months of delays. - The project, which was approved with a 536-page decision, includes the plant for the production of up to 500,000 vehicles per year - The license is subject to a public objection period as well as other final inspection conditions that include air pollution control and water usage, according to the release. - While approval for the plant took longer than Tesla expected, local officials called the process “unusual in a number of ways.” That included the “comparatively short time” the State Office for the Environment “inspected and approved not just a factory, but an entire industrial area with several large-scale plants and repeated public participation,” officials said.  Original Source : https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/04/tesla-factory-in-germany-gains-approval-to-start-commercial-production.html Officials said Tesla can start production on the condition that it meets certain requirements with respect to the environmental impact of the plant, including air pollution and water usage. It still needs to obtain an operating licence before production can officially begin, which should take roughly two weeks, a spokesperson for the local government told Insider. - Officials said they expect the plant to begin producing cars this month. Over time, Tesla intends to scale production to 500,000 vehicles per year and employ 12,000 workers at the plant. In 2021, Tesla produced just over 900,000 vehicles between its two facilities in Fremont, California and Shanghai, China. Original Source : https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-germany-gigafactory-final-approval-2022-3 Tesla Factory in Brandenburg: From Zero to Full Throttle and Back to Zero in 843 Days - on Friday, March 4th, 2022, the authorities in Brandenburg finally approved the project by sending a permit to Tesla. The document reportedly has 536 pages and contains a long list of requirements the company has to fulfill. Once it does, the final operating license will be issued. Of course, this was good news. Tesla announced they would get it done within two weeks. This would have meant they could have started producing those ‘Berlin Model Ys' at the end of this month. Some 2,000 vehicles were already made during test runs. - late on Friday night, The Administrative Court in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany's smaller Frankfurt located at the Polish border, found a procedural error which has implications. When Brandenburg's Environment Agency issued a permit for the delivery of millions of tons of additional water for the factory, it forgot to involve the public which had the right to comment on the decision. This process will have to be made up for. Obviously, both the inhabitants in the area and Tesla need water. The factory will use 1.4 million cubic meters (50 million cubic feet) of it per year. - For now, Brandenburg has the option to suspend the implementation of the court decision until the matter is resolved. That way, a long delay could be prevented, at least in part. Original Source : https://berlinspectator.com/2022/03/06/tesla-factory-in-brandenburg-from-from-zero-to-full-throttle-and-back-to-zero-in-843-days-2/ UK: TWO TESLAS IN TOP 5 AS PLUG-IN CAR SALES DOUBLED IN FEBRUARY 2022 - According to the official data, passenger plug-in electric car registrations more than doubled last month to 15,094 (up 127% year-over-year). That's 25.6% of the total market. - BEVs: 10,417 (up 196% year-over-year) at market share of 17.7% PHEVs: 4,677 (up 49% year-over-year) at market share of 7.9% Total: 15,094 (up 127% year-over-year) at market share of 25.6% - The Tesla Model Y noted 1,306 units and became the 4th most popular model right after deliveries started, while the Tesla Model 3 was fifth with 1,275 units. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/571448/uk-plugin-car-sales-february2022/ VOLVO ANNOUNCES DESIGN UPDATES FOR XC40 RECHARGE AND SINGLE-MOTOR C40 - Volvo announced a round of updates to the electric members of its portfolio. It gave the XC40 Recharge a subtle mid-cycle update that brings a new-look front end, among other changes, and it unveiled an entry-level version of the C40 Recharge with one electric motor. - the lower part of the front bumper is more chiseled, the Thor's Hammer accents in the headlights are more, well, hammer-like, and the body-colored insert that replaces the gasoline-burning model's grille loses its frame. These changes bring the battery-powered crossover in line with the C40 Recharge - XC40 Recharge models also gain pixel LED lighting technology. This system relies on individually-controlled LED elements to illuminate the road ahead without blinding other motorists - Moving on to the C40 Recharge, a front-wheel-drive version with a single electric motor is now available in some markets as a cheaper alternative to the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model. It's fitted with a 69-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, and it offers a maximum driving range of about 270 miles - the existing dual-motor C40 Recharge is equipped with a 78-kilowatt-hour battery and its powertrain is rated at 402 horsepower Original Source : https://www.autoblog.com/2022/03/04/volvo-xc40-recharge-design-updates-c40-single-motor/?ncid=edlinkusauto00000015 NIO ET7 TEST DRIVES OFFICIALLY BEGIN, FIRST DELIVERIES EXPECTED ON MARCH 28 Original Source : https://cnevpost.com/2022/03/05/nio-et7-test-drives-officially-begin-first-deliveries-expected-on-march-28 THE NIO ET7 HAS 621 MILES OF RANGE AND ALL THE BATTERY Original Source : https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/nio-et7-has-621-miles-range-and-all-battery PEUGEOT E-208 AND E-2008 CHOSEN AS THE FIRST EVS TO JOIN THE AA DRIVING SCHOOL'S FLEET Original Source : https://electriccarsreport.com/2022/03/peugeot-e-208-and-e-2008-chosen-as-the-first-evs-to-join-the-aa-driving-schools-fleet/ QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM What's the best looking EV on the market right now? etzt soll es mit der Elektromobilität bei VW also richtig los gehen: Die ersten „echten” E-Autos des Konzerns stehen in den Startlöchern.
