First customer deliveries have slipped to 2028, with delays attributed to technical challenges in developing a rugged ladder-frame platform with dual powertrains.RIVIAN DROPS $45,000 R2 STARTING-PRICE LINERivian has quietly removed the "$45,000 starting price" reference from its R2 product page, replacing it with a countdown clock ahead of a March 12 reveal at South by Southwest where full pricing and specs are expected. The R2 will launch first as a higher-priced dual-motor variant, with a more affordable single-motor base model to follow shortly after.BEVS NOW BEAT ICE ON COST IN MORE MARKETSAyvens' 2026 Car Cost Index finds BEVs now undercut comparable ICE models on total cost of ownership in a growing number of European markets, with Western and Northern Europe leading the way. In the compact segment BEVs hold a TCO advantage in 19 of 30 markets, and the BMW i4 beats the petrol 3 Series on TCO in 20 of 30 European countries.GLOBAL PUBLIC EV CHARGERS HEAD FOR 9.01M IN 2026Global public EV charging infrastructure is forecast to reach 9.01 million plugs in 2026, up from 7.11 million in 2025, though China alone accounts for 67% of the global total and the top eight countries host 88% of all chargers. Growth is slowing in Europe and losing momentum in the US, while Germany is on track to overtake the Netherlands in installed chargers during 2026.UK SUPPLIERS PULL FIXED DEALS AS GAS SPIKESUK energy suppliers slashed available fixed tariffs from 38 to 17 in a matter of days as wholesale gas prices spiked roughly 75% following disruption to Middle Eastern gas infrastructure, with the cheapest typical annual dual-fuel fixed deal rising from £1,509 to £1,640. EV-specific tariffs were also affected, with EDF pausing some EV tariffs and E.ON briefly freezing one, threatening the cost advantage of off-peak home charging for EV drivers.NEXTSTAR SWITCHES ON CANADA'S FIRST EV CELL PLANTNextStar Energy, a Stellantis and LG Energy Solution joint venture, has opened Canada's first commercial-scale EV battery cell plant in Windsor, Ontario, having already produced over one million cells since production began in November 2025. Beyond supplying Stellantis brands, NextStar aims to expand into stationary energy storage for municipal and provincial grids.STELLANTIS PLANS £50M ELLESMERE PORT VAN LINEStellantis will invest £50 million at Ellesmere Port to add an assembly line for electric Vauxhall Vivaro vans and other midsize zero-emission commercial vehicles from next year, building on the site's existing all-electric output. However, Stellantis warns the plant may not be commercially viable under the UK's ZEV mandate for vans, which carries an £18,000 fine per non-compliant vehicle at a 24% electric sales threshold that the industry is currently only half-meeting.MET SEIZES 52 ILLEGAL E-BIKES AND MOPEDSThe Metropolitan Police seized 52 illegal electric bikes and mopeds across London over two days, using targeted checkpoints in high-pedestrian-risk areas including Harlesden and Cambridge Circus. Officers also made arrests for dangerous driving, weapons possession, and outstanding prison recall warrants, linking illegal e-bikes to phone snatches and broader street crime.MEXICO AUTO PLANTS PIVOT TO HIGHER-VALUE EVSMexico's auto sector is shifting focus from volume to higher-value output between 2025 and 2027, with GM concentrating Cadillac OPTIQ production at Ramos Arizpe and BMW committing its San Luis Potosí plant to build the iX3 — its first Neue Klasse EV — from 2027. Both manufacturers have maintained their Mexican strategies despite ongoing uncertainty from US tariffs and trade policy under President Trump.FARLEY POURS COLD WATER ON ELECTRIC UTESFord CEO Jim Farley says current BEV technology is poorly suited to mainstream ute and pickup buyers who tow heavy loads, calling a large-battery BEV "a really bad tow-er," and Ford has already shelved the F-150 Lightning following weak demand and a $19.5 billion EV writedown. Farley backs extended-range EVs as the near-term bridge solution for work-capable vehicles, while dismissing solid-state batteries and fuel cells as not yet on Ford's product horizon.

Trent Mell, President, CEO, and Founder of Electra Battery Materials Corporation (NASDAQ: ELBM) (TSX-V: ELBM), joins me for a comprehensive overview the value proposition for the Company, as a leader in advancing North America's critical minerals supply chain for lithium-ion batteries and for the defense industry.   Electra's primary focus is constructing North America's only hydrometallurgical facility capable of refining  cobalt sulfate, and it has an operating history of previously producing cobalt carbonate and nickel carbonate. This is part of a phased strategy to onshore critical minerals refining and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains. Electra's cobalt sulfate refinery is located in Ontario, Canada, near some of the largest auto manufacturing centers in North America.   Electra is also advancing black mass recycling opportunities to recover critical materials from end-of-life batteries, while continuing to evaluate growth opportunities in nickel refining and other downstream battery materials like lithium and graphite.   Trent reviewed their strategic government-backed infrastructure with support from U.S. Department of War, the Government of Canada, and the Invest Ontario program. The Company has in place 2 key feedstock contracts with Glencore and Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), as well as commercial offtake agreements with LG Energy Solution and off-book government and manufacturing organizations.   In addition to the main opportunity and contracts in place to feed the refinery, Electra holds a significant land package in Idaho's Cobalt Belt, including its Iron Creek project and surrounding properties, positioning the Company as a potential cornerstone for North American cobalt and copper production. The potential exists to add future Idaho feedstock to supplement the Ontario refining, to add in the processing of nickel sulfate, in addition to the battery recycling expansion opportunity.   If you have any further questions for Trent regarding Electra Battery Materials Corp, then please email them into me at  Shad@kereport.com.   Click here to follow the latest news from Electra Battery Materials Corp   For more market commentary & interview summaries, subscribe to our Substacks:   The KE Report: https://kereport.substack.com/ Shad's resource market commentary: https://excelsiorprosperity.substack.com/     Investment disclaimer: This content is for informational and educational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice, an offer, or a solicitation to buy or sell any security. The company was operating around the clock in October with production capacity almost unsustainable. JP Morgan's supply-demand model shows power battery industry capacity utilization will exceed 80 percent for the first time since 2022.The crisis is concentrated in two areas: high-nickel ternary batteries used in premium models priced above 300,000 yuan including NIO ES8, Li Auto L8, Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, and Aito M7/M9, plus lithium iron phosphate batteries being diverted from automotive to energy storage applications.Lithium carbonate futures prices have surged 20 percent over the past month, with the most-active contract on Guangzhou Futures Exchange jumping 9 percent in a single session to 95,200 yuan per ton on November 17, approaching the psychological 100,000 yuan threshold. Since November alone, lithium has accumulated nearly 17 percent gains. Ganfeng Lithium Group Chairman Li Liangbin predicted 30 percent demand growth next year, with scenarios projecting lithium could reach 150,000 to 200,000 yuan per ton if demand accelerates.Four factors are driving the lithium price surge: First, China's energy storage lithium battery shipments reached 165 GWh in Q3 2025, up 65 percent year-over-year, with first nine months totaling 430 GWh exceeding 30 percent of all 2024. Energy storage uses the same lithium iron phosphate chemistry as mass-market EVs, creating competition for supply. Second, China's lithium carbonate output growth slowed to 1.4 percent in November while social inventories declined for 13 consecutive weeks, falling to a record low of 28.1 days turnover versus healthy levels of 45-60 days. Third, China's Jiangxiawo lithium mine producing 65,000 tons annually has been shut since August due to expired permits, removing 7,000 tons per month or roughly 10 percent of domestic supply. Fourth, purchase tax policy changes are front-loading demand with domestic lithium carbonate consumption surging to 135,000 metric tons in November, up over 40 percent year-over-year.Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory celebrated its 5 millionth battery pack rolling off the line on November 12, 2025. Tesla independently develops cell chemistry and designs battery pack structure but sources cells from CATL and LG Energy Solution rather than manufacturing in-house. This represents a hybrid self-reliance strategy. However, Tesla's October retail sales in China fell to 26,006 units, the lowest since November 2022, down 35.76 percent year-over-year and 63.64 percent month-over-month, indicating demand problems rather than supply constraints.Automakers are responding with three self-rescue strategies: First, the self-reliant approach represented by Tesla and BYD who develop their own batteries. NIO once pursued this but stopped due to huge R&D costs and is now planning to spin off its battery manufacturing department. Second, the joint venture approach like Li Auto partnering with Sunwoda

Interview with Trent Mell, CEO of Electra Battery Materials Corp. Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/electra-battery-materials-tsxvelbm-ready-to-complete-build-4676Recording date: 22nd July 2025Electra Battery Metals is positioning itself at the forefront of North America's critical mineral security strategy by developing the continent's first cobalt refinery specifically targeting the battery market. The Canadian company's hydrometallurgical facility, located north of Toronto, represents a strategic solution to Western dependence on Chinese mineral processing capabilities. The company's business model centers on a stable tolling arrangement rather than commodity speculation. Through a five-year contract with LG Energy Solution, Electra will process cobalt hydroxide sourced from the Democratic Republic of Congo via partnerships with major mining companies Glencore and ERG. This material, which would otherwise flow to Chinese refineries, will be redirected and processed into battery-grade cobalt sulfate in North America."We've locked in a five-year supply contract with LG on a tolling basis, which provides us the margin that ensures we never go out of business," explained CEO Trent Mell. The arrangement targets approximately $30 million USD in annual EBITDA once the facility reaches full capacity of 6,500 tons, equivalent to supplying roughly one million electric vehicles annually. The project has attracted significant cross-border government support, with $20 million from the U.S. Department of Defense through the Defense Production Act and $20 million CAD from the Canadian government. This backing reflects the strategic importance of onshoring critical mineral supply chains amid growing national security concerns.Beyond the core refinery business, Electra is developing battery recycling capabilities through a joint venture with indigenous partner Aki, targeting black mass processing from battery manufacturers. The company's approach prioritizes predictable cash flows over market volatility, positioning it as a utility-like investment rather than a traditional volatile mining stock. With zero cobalt production currently existing in North America for batteries, Electra's first-mover advantage addresses a critical supply chain gap while supporting both civilian EV adoption and defense applications.View Electra Battery Metals' company proflle: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/electra-battery-metalsSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

From his days as an IndyCar race engineer to his current role as chief product officer for a leading storage integrator, Tristan Doherty has always worked at the intersection of high performance and risk management.  Today, he's applying that expertise at LG Energy Solution Vertech to build more resilient, domestically manufactured energy storage systems for America's evolving grid. LG Energy Solution Vertech is the US energy storage division of LG Energy Solution, which has committed $1.4 billion to manufacture batteries in the U.S., creating a hub capable of producing 16.5 gigawatt-hours of energy storage cells annually. This investment is part of the company's long-term strategy to diversify supply chains. "We're on schedule for early next year to be a hundred percent non-Chinese in terms of all of the components and sub-components going into those ESS cells,” says Doherty. This manufacturing strategy is critical in a moment of trade uncertainty. While LG Energy Solution's substantial resources allow it to weather these challenges, smaller players in the supply chain face greater difficulties. "We're seeing projects that are being paused, that are being delayed. We're seeing suppliers that are rethinking their strategy...the goalposts are continually shifting." Beyond manufacturing, LG Energy Solution has transformed its approach to system integration. Rather than simply connecting batteries to the grid, the company now designs comprehensive power solutions with grid needs as the starting point. Doherty describes this as "flipping the script" from an inside-out to an outside-in approach. "The direction of design decisions and the direction of design intent has kind of flipped 180 degrees," he explains. "It's creating much more effective and much more powerful designs." This evolution in design philosophy extends to safety considerations as well. Following incidents like the Moss Landing fire, the industry has increasingly shifted toward containerized solutions that compartmentalize risk. According to Doherty, this approach, combined with other innovations, has contributed to a 97% reduction in energy storage system failure rates. As unprecedented demand growth from data centers, electrification, and manufacturing transforms the grid landscape, Doherty sees energy storage playing a central role.  "We've made immense strides and we've figured out a whole lot of really interesting and fascinating ways of using batteries. But I think there's a whole bunch more to come." This episode was produced in partnership with LG Energy Solution Vertech. The Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit, which exclusively serves Cherokee County, will receive the funds primarily for audio-visual equipment upgrades. Out of the total amount, $1.2 million will be used to upgrade the audio-visual equipment in all courtrooms, while the remaining funds will cover the expenses of senior judges, court reporters, and bailiffs associated with the circuit. The Blue Ridge circuit is one of 21 circuits in the state that requested A/V equipment upgrades to address case backlogs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The upgrades are expected to improve efficiency and reduce technical delays in court proceedings. Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael P. Boggs expressed pride in the progress made by judges and court personnel in implementing their grant-funded case backlog plans. Get more on this story at tribuneledgernews.com2. ArmyThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is emphasizing the importance of water safety for individuals and families visiting lakes and rivers this summer. They provide essential tips to prevent accidents and save lives. It is crucial to be prepared for unexpected situations, as accidents can happen quickly. Wearing a life jacket significantly increases the chances of survival in case of an unexpected fall into the water. Understanding the difference between swimming in open water and a pool is vital, and it's never too late to improve swimming abilities. Alcohol and water are a dangerous combination that can lead to disorientation and drowning. Boater's hypnosis, caused by environmental factors, can impair reaction time. Carbon monoxide poisoning is a risk even on open motorboats, so proper precautions should be taken. Constant supervision of children near water is crucial, and they should always wear properly fitted life jackets. Water temperature can be significantly colder than air temperature, so wearing a life jacket is essential for survival.  3. HyundaiHyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution are partnering to construct a $4.3 billion electric vehicle (EV) battery plant here in Georgia. The plant will be adjacent to the Hyundai EV "Metaplant" currently under construction. This project is anticipated to create 3,000 jobs, constituting a significant portion of the $5.5 billion investment in the Metaplant project announced by Hyundai. U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff played a role in facilitating the deal through discussions with executives from both companies, and he credited tax incentives provided by the Inflation Reduction Act for making the project possible. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed his satisfaction with Georgia's progress toward becoming the EV capital of the nation. The new EV battery plant is projected to commence operations by the end of 2025.4. Show #1477 Well…Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, your trusted source of EV information. It's Tuesday 24th May, and Martyn is off on his holidays for the week. I'm Blake Boland, and I've gone through every EV story today so that you don't have to! The “Stealth Bomber” Drops A Bomb: Foxconn-Fisker Vehicle Confirmed - Author of article, Jennifer Sensiba - ‘In a previous series of articles, I explained that Taiwan-based Foxconn (aka Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd.) is going to be a serious player in the EV industry, but that you probably won't hear much about it. Why? Because it is going to be the “stealth bomber” of manufacturers.' - A few days ago, Fisker announced solid plans to build the PEAR, and it is working with Foxconn to build it in Ohio. This is supposed to happen in 2024, and the starting price is supposed to be below $29,900. - Whatever the PEAR is going to actually be, Fisker and Foxconn tell us that they expect to sell a whole bunch of them. After a ramp-up period, they want to make at least 250,000 units per year, and that they have high hopes to make many more.   Original Source : The "Stealth Bomber" Drops A Bomb: Foxconn-Fisker Vehicle Confirmed - CleanTechnica Tesla Giga Shanghai output will return to pre-lockdown levels by Tuesday -An internal memo sent to Tesla employees said the automaker plans to have production levels at its Gigafactory Shanghai production facility return to pre-lockdown levels by Tuesday. The plant faced a three-week hiatus in production in April after a surge of COVID-19 cases in the city caused government officials to determine a shutdown was appropriate. - Tesla's daily output will return to 2,600 on Tuesday, according to the memo, which was seen by Reuters. The document said there were around 1,000 electric units produced on Monday, and the weekly output would move closer to 16,000 cars every seven days. - Additionally, this has made a substantial impact on workforces in the area. Tesla, along with other companies in the Shanghai region, has been short on workers, as well as restricted with parts due to supply chain issues in scaled back production due to the shutdowns. Original Source : Tesla Giga Shanghai output will return to pre-lockdown levels by Tuesday (teslarati.com) Tesla Giga Shanghai May Remain In Closed-Loop System Until Mid-June - Tesla's Giga Shanghai factory will reportedly continue operating in a closed-loop system until mid-June, people familiar with the matter who wished to remain anonymous told Bloomberg. - Company reportedly wants to move workers into dormitories and keep them in a form of closed loop until June 13. - With two shifts running 24 hours a day, Tesla's Shanghai factory may be able to return to the pre-lockdown daily production of around 2,100 vehicles a day. Currently, the facility is running at about 45% of capacity and auto parts suppliers are also at around that level, a local government official said at a briefing last week. This contradicts a statement from another local government official who said in early May that Giga Shanghai production was back at over 80% of capacity. Show #1453 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Monday 2nd May, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. 2023 MERCEDES-BENZ EQE SUV SPY SHOTS: MID-SIZE ELECTRIC SUV SPIED - Mercedes-Benz's EQE SUV mid-size electric SUV has been spied again, and this time we have video. - It's one of a handful of vehicles designed around the dedicated electric vehicle platform known as EVA, which debuted in the 2022 EQS full-size hatchback. - It will be built at Mercedes' plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where the EQS SUV is already in production. - The rear doors and trunk section don't stretch as long here, compared to the EQS SUV. The front overhang of the EQE SUV is also shorter, and its hood positioned not quite as high. - Expect the EQE SUV at launch to have a similar powertrain setup to the EQE sedan. This means the standard setup should feature a 90-kilowatt-hour battery and a single motor at the rear delivering 288 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. A more powerful setup with a motor also at the front axle for all-wheel drive should also be on offer, and you can count on all-wheel steering making the cut, possibly as a standard feature in the U.S. Original Source : https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1133845_2023-mercedes-benz-eqe-suv-spy-shots-video BIDEN ADMINISTRATION BEGINS $3 BILLION PLAN FOR ELECTRIC CAR BATTERIES - The Biden administration plans to begin a $3.1 billion effort on Monday to spur the domestic production of advanced batteries, which are essential to its plan to speed the adoption of electric vehicles and renewable energy. - Currently, lithium, cobalt and other minerals needed for electric car batteries and energy storage are processed primarily in Asia. China alone controls nearly 80 percent of the world's processing and refining of those critical minerals. - Senator Joe Manchin III, Democrat of West Virginia, a crucial vote for potential climate legislation in the evenly divided Senate, said last month that he had “grave concerns about moving toward an E.V.-only future” because China controls the minerals needed for car batteries. - The funding is aimed at companies that can create new, retrofitted or expanded processing facilities as well as battery recycling programs, officials with the Department of Energy said. The grants will be funded through the $1 trillion infrastructure law, which includes more than $7 billion to improve the domestic battery supply chain. - In April, President Biden invoked the Defense Production Act to give the government more avenues to provide support for the mining, processing and recycling of critical materials, such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite and manganese. - Between electric vehicles and grid storage, the market for lithium-ion batteries in the United States is expected to increase by a factor of 20 to 30 in the next decade but a secure domestic supply chain is needed Original Source : https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/02/climate/biden-electric-car-batteries.html STELLANTIS PLANS $2.8 BILLION EV OVERHAUL OF CANADIAN FACTORIES - Stellantis will invest about $2.8 billion to overhaul two Canadian factories to build fully electric and hybrid vehicles, the company said on Monday, as part of its $35 billion global commitment to electrification and related initiatives - The revamp will allow the automaker to build such versions of several of its upcoming models using new “multi-energy” architectures. The company also will add a battery lab to its existing research and development facility in Windsor, Ontario, creating 650 new jobs. - Retooling of the company's Windsor assembly plant is expected to begin in 2023 - Stellantis didn't say which models the revamped factories will be building - Stellantis and Korean battery giant LG Energy Solution announced in March that they will together spend $4.1 billion to build a major EV battery factory in Windsor. That investment is expected to create 2,500 new jobs, the companies said at the time. All for a bunch of boring plug-in hybrids. - Bloomberg says that Toyota has sold nearly 200,000, the threshold for which afterward the federal tax credits will phase out, which is what has already happened to Tesla and GM. - Demand for Toyota's plug-in hybrid vehicles has steadily grown, especially as gasoline prices have surged past $4 a gallon, pushing up its cumulative sales of eligible vehicles to 183,000 as of the end of 2021, according to an analysis by BloombergNEF. The company reported sales of another 8,421 plug-in hybrid and electric cars in the first quarter. - “We're planning for it, because Tesla's out, and General Motors is out, and we'll be out probably in the second quarter,” Bob Carter, Toyota Motor North America's executive vice president of sales, said in a recent interview. “When you're out, you enter a step-down phase down, so we're planning for that.” - Bloomberg says that Nissan is about 34,000 Leafs away from crossing the threshold, while Ford is around 43,000 EVs away, though it seems likely that Ford will get there quicker than Nissan, given all the new EVs Ford is making. Show #1451 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Saturday 30th April, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. THE FORD F-150 LIGHTNING ELECTRIC TRUCK HAS MORE POWER THAN WE THOUGHT! - Ford just announced that the power and payload ratings it had specified for the Lightning pickup are wrong. Luckily, they're "wrong" in the right direction—meaning the final horsepower and payload figures for the F-150 Lightning area actually better than expected. - originally was quoted as offering 426 hp with the standard-range pack and 563 with the juicier extended-range setup. Ford now says the standard-range model packs 452 hp, up 26 hp from Ford's "targeted" number, and the extended-range version doles out a mighty 580 hp, up 17 hp - it makes the standard-range Lightning the most powerful F-150 pickup ever - Ford also says the F-150 Lightning's payload figures have been revised upward, though less impressively so than the horsepower numbers. Certain, unspecified versions of the Lightning can "now haul an extra 235 pounds," per Ford, lifting the maximum one of the electric trucks can carry to 2,235 pounds. · Original Source : https://www.motortrend.com/news/2022-f-150-lightning-revised-power-payload-ratings/ FORD'S NEXT-GEN ELECTRIC TRUCK WILL HAVE ACTIVE AERO, MORE RANGE - Ford launched the F-150 Lightning earlier this week, and company CEO Jim Farley hinted at what is to come next. He let slip that the company's Tennessee manufacturing facility would produce a different type of F-Series pickup when production started there in a few years. - he did speak with Laycee from the Miss GoElectric YouTube Channel, who revealed on the latest InsideEVs.com podcast episode (34:44 mark) that the new pickup would have a radical design that some could find controversial. - Farley told her that the new electric pickup would feature active and deployable aero similar to a semi-truck, with the design focusing on maximizing efficiency. - The new truck would allegedly cost about $7,000 more than the F-150 Lightning and offer about 100 miles more of range. That means the Ford could offer 400-plus miles (643-plus kilometers). The current F-150 Lightning can deliver up to 320 miles (514 km). Ford has spent the last two years developing this new truck. - Ford will produce the new pickup at its manufacturing complex in Tennessee. - Blue Oval City, will produce the next generation of electric F-Series trucks and batteries. The site will have three gigafactories. The complex will see operations begin in 2025, so it could be a bit before we see this new pickup. Rawlinson's $263 million payday is one of the largest compensation packages paid to any executive in 2021. - The company's market value remained high enough over a six-month period for Rawlinson to collect four of the five tranches of performance-based units, according to the filing. - Lucid Group recently said it needed more cash to fund its plans, which include a second factory in Saudi Arabia, expected to open in 2025. The company raised $2 billion in convertible debt in December, but Bloomberg Intelligence forecasts that the startup may have to sell more stock to raise the necessary funds. The products range from the AC wallbox for homes, businesses and retail to the Terra 360 HPC charging point. - Shell reportedly intends to operate 500,000 charging points worldwide by 2025. By 2030, this number is to increase to 2.5 million. To achieve this, the oil company needs one thing above all: lots of charging points. Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2022/04/29/shell-awards-another-charging-infrastructure-framework-contract-to-abb/ - Shell does not provide any further details on this in the strategy, so it is unclear which markets they will cover with how many charge points. Going by past activities, Shell has been active in several markets, reaching across Europe and even Canada. Recent acquisitions or attempts include NEw Motion and Ubitricity and Shell is a partner of Ionity. Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/02/12/shell-to-install-half-a-million-charge-points-by-2025/ BIG OIL WANTS A PIECE OF THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE PIE - The likes of Shell, TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil, Equinor, and BP are all backing EV projects as they expand their portfolios to include non-traditional energy sectors. - In Europe, Shell has been just one of the oil majors to expand its EV charging network over the last year. Shell's subsidiary, ubitricity – standing for ubiquitous electricity – is using innovative technologies to enhance access to EV charging stations by powering cars across cities through lamp posts. Shell's public charging network, Shell Recharge, expects to have over 500,000 charging points globally by 2025, establishing locations across supermarkets, street-charging points, and EV hubs. - Shell is also leading by example by establishing an EV charging hub in London, replacing its petrol and diesel pumps with ultra-rapid 175kW charge points - Last year, Equinor also announced a $130-million investment in Solid Power, a U.S. firm developing all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs) for electric vehicles. The BMW Group and Ford have also partnered with Solid Power to acquire ASSBs for their new EV models. Equinor believes the development of ASSBs could provide lower-cost EV batteries to the market. - This April, BP sent EV stock soaring with the announcement of a multi-year contract with Tritium. Tritium will provide almost 1,000 chargers for the U.K., Australian, and New Zealand markets. They would be called Terafactories, implying they would deliver more than 1 TWh in battery packs. With the 4680 cell delays, BYD is closer to achieving 1 TWh than Tesla. - Bridget McCarthy mapped all the cell plants BYD currently has and concluded it has an amazing installed capacity above 500 GWh. To be more precise, we're talking about 522 GWh, which is not counting a huge battery factory planned for Europe and some other plants – such as Huangpi, in Wuhan – that still have not disclosed how many cells they will be able to manufacture. - Tesla planned to make 100 GWh at Giga Nevada but would be delivering around 30 GWh. Most of its cars now need suppliers such as LG Energy Solution and CATL, which provides Tesla with LFP cells. - The list provided by the financial analyst at Snow Capital is impressive. Original Source : https://www.autoevolution.com/news/byd-is-closer-to-1-twh-than-tesla-capacity-already-surpassed-500-gwh-187738.html Bridget McCarthy on Twitter: “In less than a week, 12 different business units within BYD completely shifted to mask production. In just five weeks, BYD went from producing zero masks, to being the WORLD'S LARGEST SURGICAL MASK PRODUCER. By May, BYD was producing over 50M masks per day. - In a matter of days, BYD's designers drew more than 400 renderings of mask machines, the electronics group prepared the necessary parts, & 3,000 engineers from 13 business divisions started building. A week later, BYD was producing masks to be sent around the world. - The teams (i.e. battery business unit vs. logistics department) competed to have the highest daily mask output. BYD yanked battery engineers from the then-top-secret Blade battery project to oversee mask production, one of whom continually topped the “dragon and tiger list”.
