Tom opened the show with an apology for two mistakes he's made in the past couple of weeks. Listen in for the corrections. Jill and Tom went on to share a tariff update, as well news regarding one of the strangest recalls…ever. So, what's wrong with the Volkswagen ID. Buzz's back seat? Listen in for details. Still in the first segment, Jill shares her take on the updated-for-2026 Genesis GV70 small crossover. Updated styling and a revised cabin are part of the news. In the second segment the hosts welcome Zack Pradel, host and founder of YouTube Channel Shooting Cars. Zack spends most of his time creating review videos of other peoples' cars. Discussed here are the Mercedes-Benz 380 SEC, Buick Park Avenue Ultra, and Chevrolet C-30 “high rail.” Zack has created more than 1800 videos; be sure to check them out. In the last segment Jill and Zack are subjected to Tom's “GT or No GT” Quiz. This one was close. The crew wrapped up the show talking about Buc-ee's Beaver Nuggets, a bag of which Jill brought to the studio.

The VW Bus, in its many forms, has become one of the most recognizable vehicles in the company's history. Sure, it might be second to the VW Beetle, but even that might be a close race. While the bus has been out of production for decades for use in the U.S. market, the folks at VW showed off a battery-electric concept in 2016 dubbed BUDD-e. Of course, wiser heads prevailed, and the concept van was updated and given a new name in 2017: ID. Buzz. Of course, it would be a while before the ID. Buzz hit U.S. shores, but a successor to the VW Bus is finally showing up on U.S. streets. The '25 VW ID. Buzz rides on the brand's MEB platform and packs a 91-kWh battery pack under its floor. That battery feeds a 282 hp rear motor or a 335 hp dual-motor powertrain. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Mark Vaughn hops behind the wheel of the 2025 VW ID Buzz and puts it through its paces. Vaughn takes you on a guided tour of the ID. Buzz to highlight some of his favorite features. Later, Vaughn takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Vaughn chats with host Wesley Wren about the '25 ID. Buzz, minivans as a whole, and more. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes the 2025 VW ID. Buzz special.

They'll take you behind the scenes to discuss not only the winning vehicle but also the procedures that resulted in the choice of Honda's highly popular compact car. At the same time, Nerad and DeLorenzo will offer long looks at the winners of the North American Utility of the Year and North American Truck of the Year — the 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz and the 2025 Ford Ranger. You'll hear commentary on these vehicles you won't get anywhere else. In our interview segment this week, you'll also hear a discussion you won't hear anywhere else. Russell Wager, Kia America's vice president of marketing, is our guest. Jack Nerad sat down with him to talk about the opportunities and challenges presented as the country transitions from the Biden years to the Trump era. Speaking of Biden, as one of his last acts in office, he and his Administration essentially banned Chinese-built cars from entering the U.S. market and, at the same time, banned vehicles with Chinese technology and hardware. We'll discuss the ramifications of that coming up. In our road test segment, guest co-host Matt DeLorenzo will detail the special virtues of the 2025 Infiniti QX55, and Jack Nerad will provide an in-depth report on the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric — a vehicle that might be the best value among battery-electric vehicles right now. Audi's e-tron lineup might have started with a lone crossover half a decade ago but has been spun into almost a sub-brand for the automaker. Joining the evolving line of Audi BEVs in 2021, the Audi Q4 e-tron joined the lineup to serve as the brand's electric entry point. Riding on the same MEB architecture that underpins its more cost-conscious Volkswagen counterpart, the Q4 e-tron packs a single electric drive module in the front, or an electric drive module at both axles. Unlike the Volkswagen ID.4, the Q4 e-tron only packs an 82 kWh battery pack. For '25, the team at Audi updated the powertrains for the Q4 e-tron, with more power heading to the renamed Q4 e-tron 45 and the Q4 e-tron 55. The all-wheel-drive, top-flight Q4 e-trong 55 now sends 335 hp to the pavement through its pair of electric drive motors. According to the EPA, this Audi is good for 258 miles per charge.    On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the '25 Audi Q4 e-tron 55 and puts it through its paces. Wren takes you on a guided tour of the Q4 e-tron to highlight some of his favorite features and relay what it's like in the real world. The 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz is the most buzzworthy vehicle to hit American highways this decade. Combining the exterior style of the classic Microbus with the chassis of a thoroughly modern electric vehicle, the ID.Buzz is a crowd-pleaser that stops traffic, as Host Jack Nerad discovered during his two weeks with the vehicle. Its exterior design features LED lighting, retro-inspired wheels, and optional two-tone paint that pays homage to its iconic predecessor. But the drivetrain is anything but retro. The ID.Buzz is powered by a 91-kWh battery and offers two drivetrain configurations: rear-wheel-drive with 282 horsepower and an EPA-estimated range of 234 miles and 4Motion all-wheel-drive with 335 horsepower and a range of 231 miles. Charging is efficient, with DC fast charging replenishing 10-80% in just 26 minutes. Inside, the ID. Buzz boasts a spacious and customizable interior, offering up to 145.5 cubic feet of cargo space, flexible seating, and advanced technology, including a 12.9-inch infotainment display, IQ.Drive driver assistance, and wireless charging. It's a stark contrast to Nerad's 1968 Type 2 “Early Bay” Bus, powered by a 57-horsepower 1600cc engine that delivered a 0-60 mph time of 37 seconds and a top speed of 65 mph. But is the ID.Buzz as good a value as that long-gone college-era VW? Nerad will have the answer. In our other road test this week, Co-Host Chris Teague will have the answer on the all-new 2025 Ford Ranger. A finalist for North American Truck of the Year, the Ranger boasts a new engine that makes it much more competitive versus rivals that include the Chevrolet Colorado, Nissan Frontier, and the Toyota Tacoma. Teague is a Toyota fan, but does he see the Ranger as the better midsize truck? He'll give his verdict in this episode. Driving News Our look at Driving News this week features a headline-grabbing development that could reshape the industry. Nissan and Honda, two global giants with big U.S. footprints, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore a potential integration. If it goes forward, this partnership could see the companies combining their efforts in electrification, platform sharing, and advanced vehicle intelligence. With plans for a joint holding company by 2026, this is a story with far-reaching implications for drivers everywhere. In more amusing news, Hyundai has achieved an incredible and largely esoteric feat with its Ioniq 5 electric vehicle, earning a Guinness World Records title for the greatest altitude change ever by an electric car. Over 14 grueling days, the Ioniq 5 covered more than 4,900 kilometers across India, traveling from the Himalayas' highest drivable point to below sea level in Kerala. But what does this record prove? Jack and Chris will offer their opinions. Switching gears to luxury, Jack and Chris will also offer their opinions on the 2025 Genesis G80 3.5T Sport Prestige AWD, a sedan that blends advanced technology, stunning design, and exceptional performance. Powered by a twin-turbocharged V6, the G80 delivers a smooth, refined ride while packing a punch under the hood. Inside, it's all about premium touches, from Nappa leather seating to a cutting-edge OLED instrument cluster. Our two reporters will deliver their verdicts in this show This week's guest is Brian Jannusch, a Nissan GT-R expert with a passion for the legendary sports car. From its iconic engineering to his quest to drive one at the Nurburgring, Brian shares fascinating insights into what makes the GT-R so special. It's a conversation that will resonate with sports car fans and anyone who appreciates automotive excellence. The episode also tackles practical advice with safety tips for 2025 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. As the year begins, it's a good time to revisit basics like seatbelt use, sober driving, and staying alert on the road. Simple steps can make a big difference in preventing accidents and keeping your loved ones safe.

Shoot us a Text. It's Friday again, and it feels like the first time in forever that we're back in our normal seats. Today, we're covering Cars Commerce's latest Industry Insights Report, GM finally getting Supercharger access for its EVs and how home improvement is making a recovery because of the interest rate cut.Show Notes with links:Yesterday, CARS Commerce released their latest Industry Insights Report including a peek inside their 1st party data. Here are some highlights:Used-car supply is also more stable than its been -- up 2.3% YOY. However, the quality of the used-car inventory still leans older, and average odometer mileage increased 1.5% year over year as fewer late-model vehicles land on dealer lots. Trade-in values continue to slide, with August 2024 figures dropping below August 2022 numbers.Dealers are holding inventory longer — 53 days on average — as consumers wait for better pricing. 40% increase in new-car demand YOY, but that is not necessarily translating into a more robust market as we have seen a 38% increase in new-car days live. The common thread running through the market's most affordable vehicles is alternative propulsion: Each of these models is either a full electric vehicle or offers a PHEV version : Ford Mustang Mach-E, Volkswagen ID.4, Mazda CX-90, Lincoln Corsair, Hyundai Ioniq 5GM's latest move allows their EV drivers to access Tesla's robust Supercharger network, a game-changer for those driving Chevy, Cadillac, or GMC models. However, GM customers will need to invest in an adapter to tap into these benefits.GM EV drivers now have access to 17,800 Tesla Superchargers using a GM-approved Tesla adapter which costs $225, unlocking Supercharger compatibilityFord and Rivian offered adapters for free temporarily, creating some friction for GM buyersGM also focuses on flexibility, partnering with various suppliers to avoid reliance on Tesla.Wade Sheffer, VP of GM Energy, said, “Enabling access to even more publicly available fast chargers represents yet another way GM is focused on further improving the customer experience.”Home Depot and Lowe's are already benefiting from the Fed's recent rate cut, signaling a potential recovery in the home improvement sector as borrowing becomes more affordable for consumers.Home Depot and Lowe's shares rose following the Fed's half-point rate cut.The housing market is expected to "unfreeze" as borrowing costs drop, boosting sales.Analysts predict a "phased recovery" in home improvement spending, starting small and growing as rates fall.Lowe's CEO Marvin Ellison emphasized readiness: "Whenever the macro inflection occurs, we just want to be ready to take advantage of it."Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

Some initial tariff rates were reduced but not substantially. Tu moves the conversation over to the improvement in XPeng's earnings and the momentum they may have when launching the Mona M03.The discussion moves over to who the global players are in the autonomous vehicle space and when thinking of China the lines are blurred with the autonomous vehicle companies competing directly against the OEMs who are either developing their own intelligent driving system or are partnering with tech companies to integrate a solution into their NEVs. They both touch on the Volkswagen ID.Buzz van launch and how the specs just don't match anything out in China that's comparable. They also briefly discuss the Chevy Tahoe pricing that was revealed this week in a picture posted to social media.Tu and Lei close out the show by unpacking Zeekr's earnings call.

Shoot us a Text.We are rounding down a week of east coast travel here on the last day of the NAMAD Annual Membership Meeting. Today we are looking at Ford's recently announced change in their EV plans and how EVs may not be slowing down as much as some sources may say.Show Notes with links:Ford is adjusting its electrification plans, canceling its long-planned three-row electric crossovers and delaying the next-generation full-size electric pickup by 18 months. The automaker will now focus on a family of hybrid three-row crossovers.Ford's changes could result in up to $1.9 billion in costs, including a $400 million noncash charge related to the cancellation of the crossover.CFO John Lawler: "We looked where the segment was evolving, the amount of competition, the customer needs, and then, the size of the battery that needs to go in a pure EV, the cost structure, the pricing, We could not put together a vehicle that met our requirements to be profitable in the first 12 months of launch."The next-gen full-size electric pickup's launch has been pushed to late 2027.Moving forward, Lawler said EVs would represent roughly 30 percent of Ford's capital expenditure, down from a planned 40 percent.Despite talks of an EV slowdown, the U.S. market saw record-breaking sales in Q2 2024, with 18 electric models surpassing 5,000 units sold. Tesla, Ford, and Hyundai lead, but newcomers are gaining ground.EV sales hit a record 320,463 units in Q2, up 11% from last year and 23% from Q1.The 18 models that sold 5K units: Tesla Model Y, Model 3, Model X and Cybertruck; Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning; Hyundai IONIQ 5; Toyota bZ4X; Rivian R1S; Cadillac Lyriq; BMW i4; Kia EV6, EV9, and Niro; Chevrolet Blazer EV; Volkswagen ID.4; Mercedes EQE; and Nissan Ariya. As we previously reported, Tesla's market share dipped below 50% for the first time, now at 49.7%, and Hyundai Motor Group (including Kia and Genesis) claimed 10% of the U.S. EV market, outperforming Ford (7.4%) and GM (6.3%)Stephanie Valdez Streaty, Cox Automotive Industry Insights Director said: “Automakers that deliver the right product at the right price and offer an excellent consumer experience will lead the way in EV adoption.”Chick-Fil-A is stepping into the entertainment arena with plans to launch its own streaming service, focusing on family-friendly content. The fast-food giant is partnering with top production companies to create original shows, marking a bold move into the media landscape.Chick-Fil-A is developing original content for a new streaming platform. The focus will be on family-friendly shows, particularly in the unscripted genre.Collaborations include production companies behind popular series like NBC's The Wall and Netflix's 13 Reasons Why.A 10-episode family-friendly game show has already been greenlit.Budgets for these projects are reported Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email
