Life generates a lot of questions. Mystery and complications abound. But, it is not as if we weren't a part of all of that. We too, were complicated and even mysterious. And every once in a while, it was a good idea for us to allow God to ask us some questions.Last Sunday at Storyline's Gathering, we continued our series on the questions God asked us.The band performed songs by Tom Petty, Maggie Rogers, Nikka Costa, and Will Reagan.
Having completed nearly 200 gigs with JD Fortune via the Switch Album Tour over 2006-2007, INXS took a much needed break in 2008 to recharge the batteries and contemplate further new chapters in their career post Michael Hutchence. Amidst, a temporary falling out with JD, the band reunited with long term Manager Chris Murphy after a 14 year hiatus from band duties. With a renewed focus to move the band to a brand, the bank found inner inspiration when jamming in the studio during 2009 deconstructing old songs with new arrangements. As such, the idea to re-record some well known and unique deep cut INXS tracks was born with the idea of inviting select singers, DJ's and world music artists to lend a hand. A unique initiative rarely taken by a band and one normally reserved for tribute acts. With Jon Farriss and James Ash (Rogue Traders Founder) spearheading the production duties, the band put together an ambitious, creative and artistically successful album that avoided being a simple rehash or rebooting of existing soundscapes. With guest contributors including Ben Harper, Rob Thomas, Kav Temperley (Eskimo Joe), Pat Monahan (Train) and Nikka Costa, the album manages to incorporate modern production, excellent musicianship and soaring vocal performances imbuing a sense of celebration and admiration for INXS' songs. The album undoubtedly did in 2010 and now in 2024 challenge ardent, stoic and rusted on fans whose ears may be permanently etched to the sounds of the original songs, however as we have said on many occasions, “listen without prejudice” and you'll be in for a rare musical experience. we also have a poll running on our Facebook page. So cast your votes on your top 5 songs off this album there. Love and peace ✌️ https://www.inxsaccessallareas.com/

LA-based soul and funkster Nikka Costa invites you into her current heart and headspace and navigates you into joy on her new album, Dirty Disco. “I know I need it and figured we all do sometimes,” declares Costa. “It's up, it's dancy, it's happy, it's funky, it's positive, and it's not taking itself too seriously, which is how I want to feel most days!”
A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Joe Ayoub has become one of the busiest bassists on the LA - and now New York music scenes. Most people will recognize him from his many appearances in Scary Pockets videos, including Kiss, Humble Strut, Roxanne and Fantasy to name just a few. What most people don't realize is that Joe is currently holding down dual roles on two major TV productions: American Idol and The Kelly Clarkson show. If you watch any of the ABC seasons of Idol you will see Joe's highly recognizable silhouette backing up all of the great contestants. Over the past 20 years living in LA, Joe has backed up Shakira, Miley Cyrus, Enrique Iglesias, Leonard Cohen, Sara Bareilles, Nikka Costa, Billy Currington to name just a few. At the time of this interview, Joe is also currently holding down dual roles on the road playing with both Melissa Etheridge and Jewel each night on their tour. From this interview it's apparent that Joe is a kind, humble guy who loves bass and this interview is chalked full of insight on how Joe approaches bass and how he's managed to be a first call for some of the best gigs on the planet.

Born in Buffalo NY, his father wore two hats as pianist and conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He would seat Dave in the orchestra pit during performances as early as seven years old. Dave's brother Robert would soon become a multiple Grammy-nominated classical percussionist, and his sister an accomplished rock/soul singer. Shortly after his father's passing when Dave was 10, he suddenly took an interest in the piano that was sitting idly in the living room. Osmosis? Within six months Dave had mastered the C Sonata by Mozart, and began an obsession with XTC, Herbie Hancock, Yes, Todd Rundgren and of course, DEVO. Pretty diverse for an 11 year old. He clearly made the right choice. By the age of 17, he was one of the top keyboardists in his hometown, winning multiple awards consistently for seven years. Finally the big break came, when Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls called and left a simple message from sunny LA: “you wanna come out and tour with us for a year?” In a matter of one day Dave went from playing in front of 300 in a local Buffalo bar to playing Woodstock in front of 65000. This led to a two-and-a-half year relationship with the Goo Goo Dolls that took Dave around the world twice as touring keyboardist/vocalist for the “Dizzy Up The Girl” tour, the landmark album that spawned five top ten singles between 98 and 2000. That experience sealed his fate.

Check out https://www.chrismcqueen.com/Thanks for listening! More about Chris.Chris McQueen has been playing, writing, and recording music since 1994. Along with Henry Hey he co-leads the explorative, groove-oriented instrumental band Forq, which has released four albums, and he has an acoustic guitar duo project with Matt Read that released its debut Western Theatre and is preparing a second album. He is an original and current member of 3-time Grammy winning band Snarky Puppy and Grammy-nominated world music group Bokanté as well as a frequent member of Banda Magda. He has performed with Lucy Woodward, Lizz Wright, Nikka Costa, Myron Butler & Levi, and Alejandro Escovedo. He has been featured in several rock musicals, including David Bowie’s Lazarus at New York Theater Workshop (featuring Michael C. Hall) and The Rocky Horror Show at The Dallas Theater Center. Chris grew up in Austin, TX and started playing guitar and recording songs on a 4-track Tascam around age 10. At 13 he joined RedHeaded Stepchild, a western swing kid band, and started gigging around Austin and learning how to solo from bandmate and guitar prodigy Will Knaak. This interest in improvisation led to a fascination with jazz; he joined and composed for the Westlake High School jazz band, and attended the University of North Texas to study with Fred Hamilton. In 2005-2006 he played in the One O’Clock Lab Band and wrote the piece “Foe Destroyer”, which was recorded for the band's Lab 2006 album.Chris remained in the Dallas area for four years after college, co-leading the rock band Oso Closo with singer/songwriter Adrian Hulet, and studying music with Bernard Wright and other members of the Dallas R&B/jazz/Gospel scene. Oso Closo performed on stage in The Who’s Tommy at the Dallas Theater Center and released two albums. After Oso Closo broke up, Chris and fellow band member Danny Garcia joined with singer/songwriter Cade Sadler to form the rock band Foe Destroyer. Foe Destroyer created an eponymous album, toured for several years, and performed on stage in Dallas and NYC in the musical Fly By Night. In recent years Chris has expanded beyond guitar playing to focus on music arranging, mobile app building, and video editing. He writes frequently for string quartet, big band, and horn/string sections. He co-arranged a piece on the Grammy-winning album Sylva by Snarky Puppy with the Metropole Orchestra. He has transcribed and engraved sheet music for Snarky Puppy, Bill Laurance, and his own groups, and he created arrangements and MainStage sounds for the musical Bunkerville. He has created two iPhone apps: Guitar Note Atlas, which helps guitar players visualize the guitar neck, and Set App for creating and sharing set lists. And he has edited and directed music videos for Forq and the Read/McQueen guitar duo.Chris lives in Austin, TX with his wife Erin and their bunny Georgia.
Ello This is the commonwealth edition. Like the Ashes of Audio it's UK vs Australia. Justin Stanley FINALLY finds his way to the pod. First and foremost Mr Stanley is my friend. We've been on some serious adventures in our times. We were on the road together in 2006, where we met touring with Beck. I was opening and J.S. was in the Beck band and KILLING. Also he happens to be a prince of man. A TRUE legend. A humble badass and a VERY experienced audio king. He's worked with everyone from Leonard Cohen to Prince and even a little Lidell along the way. Husband of the wonderful Nikka Costa and Dad to two incredible young humans, Justin is just a joy. So happy to have him on. He surprised me by driving us both over to Barefoot in LA. It's owned by Eric Valentine. WHAT a place. We sat and played on the piano Stevie used on Songs in the Key of Life, Talking Book and so on. I mean COME ON! It was all too much. Such a sweet surprise that'll stay with me for ages. Here's to you Justin! You're a class act. _____________________________________ Music for the show is from Sydney Australia.. so apt. It was clearly meant to be. The band is called Colourfields. And the tracks that appear in the show are from an album called “Body Objects” Superb stuff! Link here: https://colourfields1.bandcamp.com/album/body-objects ____________________________________ In the 54th Nitty I get into the mysterious world of reversing reversed effects. Forwarding the backward. A little time travel. Also apt for this show with Justin. Here we go!
