Join me as I welcome back Israel Wayne to the Family Discipleship Podcast! Israel discusses the ineffectiveness of institutional solutions for church and family issues, advocating instead for relational discipleship modeled after Jesus’ example. We need far more intergenerational interaction in our churches; and we need parents to take full responsibility for their children's spiritual education, rather than outsourcing it to institutions. Israel Wayne is an author and conference speaker equipping the Church in defending the Christian faith, living a Biblical worldview, discipling their families, and educating according to the Word of God. Taking the time to understand that your patterns of relating are dysfunctional is the step that sets our healing journey in motion. It can be both freeing and overwhelming to realize there are different and more productive ways of relating to those in our family now or in our family of origin. But as Kaye and I talk about in this episode, there's a pretty big gap between what the average person sitting in the pews really needs in terms of support and what the local church usually provides. Kaye's got some great insights on why just knowing Christian doctrine isn't enough to handle the messy stuff in our relationships, and why knowing Jesus-is. In this episode, you'll learn: Why many people find 12 Step groups more accessible than churches How your healing journey will naturally benefit those you love Why there is redemption in choosing health even when other family members won't Why the church as a body needs to examine its effectiveness in supporting families in crisis The freedom found in embracing our powerlessness over the actions of others How God used Kaye's vulnerability to invite her into an intimate relationship with Him To register for the Healing Prayer Seminar in Phoenix on Saturday, April 13th, 2024, email Kaye Schneider at: Kaye.vitalconnections@aol.com Grab your copy of Lifted From Shame Order your eBook or print book on Amazon here. In this episode, Relational Discipleship Network answers these questions: What is relational discipleship? How do I live this out in the home, my church, and the world? How do you set the DNA of a relational disciple-making environment? How do leaders create a relational environment that is intentional about making disciples of Jesus?
This week, Pastor Jonathan launches into our "Foundations" series and examines Deuteronomy 31 and Restoration's core value of Relational Discipleship.

For all the talk about relational discipleship, it's confusing to know what that really looks like. Every youth worker knows we need to meet students where they're at… so where are they, and how do we lead them to discover the joy of Christ? When youth workers talk about “meeting kids where they're at,” what does that mean and how do we approach that with theological depth? When you're writing your Reframe curriculum or meeting with a student as their therapist, how do you approach the difficult topics and help students develop a Christian worldview? How do you approach youth culture in a way that avoids complete acceptance and complete rejection of culture? Jordan Francis is the founder of Reframe Youth and is a Christian Therapist in Phoenix. Reframe Youth provides biblically rich content about the timely issues students are facing, in order to help them form a Christian worldview. Relational Discipleship | Christ Covenant by Christ Covenant
You are invited! Those words sound nice, right? Except it can feel scary to be the one saying those words. "What if they say no?" "What if this makes our relationship feel weird?" How can the act of inviting actually be inviting? Sermon Notes: Matthew 28:17-20 Matthew 22:2-10 Implications: Invitation seems scary because we fear rejection. Leave the results of the invite in God's hands. Invite out of who you are, out of your passions, and out of your connection with Christ. Types of Inviters: 1. I am on a mission! 2. I'm having fun, you should too! 3. I see you! 4. I need your help! 5. I found healing!
Why can sharing our faith feel so awkward? Oftentimes we wonder how to get started, and what to say. How Jesus engaged with Nicodemus in conversation has some answers for us. Sermon Notes: John 3:1-19 John 16:7-15 Galatians 5:25 Implications: Inviting people into spiritual conversations requires embracing the reality that you are born of the Spirit. To move beyond the awkwardness of actually engaging others spiritually, embrace this reality. When you invite people into spiritual conversations, you are recognizing that they need to be born of God's Spirit too! Corporate Discipleship 1. I do. You watch. We talk. 2. I do. You help. We talk. 3. You do. I help. We talk. 4. You do. I watch. We talk. 5. You do. Someone else watches. Jesus Discipleship 1. I be. You watch. We talk. 2. I be. You be. We talk. 3. I do out of my being. You watch. We talk. 4. You do out of your being. I watch. We talk. 5. You be. Someone else watches. Four Types of Spiritual Conversations 1. Q&A 2. Pray 3. Your Story 4. Scripture 5 Goals of Discipleship 1. Reconnect to the source of life 2. Reconnect through authentic healthy relationship 3. Experience total grace, acceptance, and forgiveness 4. Experience and learn the value of obedience to God 5. Give control to God for the rest of life
Sometimes it seems easier to just “do all the stuff” for your relationship with Jesus than to actually BE in relationship with Him, but that ends up feeling hallow. How can you create space in your life that allows for your relationship with Jesus to flourish, and subsequently every other relationship in your life? Sermon Notes: Philippians 4:10-13 Luke 10:38-42 Corporate Discipleship: 1. I do. You watch. We talk. 2. I do. You help. We talk. 3. You do. I help. We talk. 4. You do. I watch. We talk. 5. You do. Someone else watches. Jesus Discipleship 1. I be. You watch. We talk. 2. I be. You be. We talk. 3. I do out of my being. You watch. We talk. 4. You do out of your being. I watch. We talk. 5. You be. Someone else watches. Implication: Discipleship from a place of “being-with” is sustainable, steady, and successful.
One of the great paradoxes of life is how relationships brings about our greatest joys, but also our deepest pains. Jesus's call to be and make disciples cannot be carried out at arms length. Discipleship is designed with relationship required. For many people this is scary, but this is where we actually find healing. Sermon Notes: Genesis 2:18 Deuteronomy 6:5–7 Leviticus 19:18 Galatians5:22-23 Matthew 22:37–40 John15:5 Implication: 1. Christ came to be in relationship with you because you were created a relational being.
This week we start our Discipleship sermon series as we look at the mission Jesus gave us and consider how we can enjoy Him as we journey together. Sermon Notes: Matthew 4:19 Philippians 4:9 Galatians 4:19 Matthew 28:16-20 Matthew 8:19-23 Psalm 119:164 Daniel 6:10 Implication: 1. Discipleship is not primarily didactic. Discipleship is about living out your relationship with Jesus in such a way that others get invited into that same relationship.
