We head to the rink for hockey talk with Dave Molinari, a Hall of Fame writer who has covered the Pittsburgh Penguins and NHL since 1983. His legendary dry, sharp wit comes through in tales about superstars Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby, as well as other great players who have produced five Stanley Cup championships during his tenure on the beat. Molinari tells us about coaching legends Herb Brooks and “Badger” Bob Johnson, a playoff game lasting five overtimes, and old arenas that made the hair stand up on his neck. You'll laugh about Gene Ubriaco's escape tunnel, Lou Angotti's epic rant, and witch doctors entering the press box. Molinari was enshrined in the media wing of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009 when he received the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award for print journalism, which is given each year by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. After beginning his journalism career at the McKeesport Daily News, Molinari joined the Pittsburgh Press as a copy editor in 1980. That paper assigned him to cover the Penguins and NHL in the summer of 1983. When the Pittsburgh Press folded at the end of 1992, Molinari moved to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and continued covering the Penguins and NHL until 2017, when his primary responsibility became Penn State football. He returned to hockey writing and the Penguins beat in June 2019 when, after 39-plus years at newspapers, he joined DK Pittsburgh Sports, a subscription website. Molinari began writing for a different website, Pittsburgh Hockey Now, in May 2022. After growing up in the McKeesport suburbs of Glassport and Elizabeth Township near Pittsburgh, Molinari earned a journalism degree from Penn State. He is the author of two books: “Mario Lemieux: Best There Ever Was,” written along with Ron Cook and Chuck Finder. “Best in the Game: The Turbulent Story of the Pittsburgh Penguins' Rise to Stanley Cup Champions” You can follow Dave on X: @MolinariPGH Learn more about your ad choices. Can Daniel George and the Akron Zips cover the big number in Oxford, Ohio against Aveon Smith and the Miami OH Redhawks? Should we take Connor Bazelak and the Bowling Green Falcons despite being a favorite over Chrishon McCray and the Kent State Golden Flashes? Are the Eastern Michigan Eagles and Tanner Knue going to cover at the Glass Bowl against Dequan Finn and the Toledo Rockets? Can Tony Muskett and the Virginia Cavaliers keep it within 20 points of Jeff Brohm's Louisville Cardinals at The Shaq on Thursday night? Will Frank Gore Jr. and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles take down their rivals in Louisiana and Jacob Kibodi? Are the North Texas Mean Green and Eric Morris capable of pulling off the upset against Preston Stone and the SMU Mustangs in the Safeway Bowl in Dallas, Texas on Friday Night? Will Hugh Jackson and the Grambling Tigers take down Arkansas Pine Bluff on Friday night in the Delta Classic? Are the Wyoming Cowboys and Andrew Peasley a lock to cover and perhaps win outright in Las Vegas against Jayden Maiava and the UNLV Runnin' Rebels? We talk it all and more on this Week 11 Weekday Picks edition of The College Football Experience. ===================================================== Support us by supporting our partners Gametime code SGPN - Download the Gametime app, create an account, and use code SGPN for $20 off your first purchase - https://gametime.co/ Underdog Fantasy code SGPN - 100% Deposit Match up to $100 - https://play.underdogfantasy.com/p-sgpn 4:42 Discuss with fellow degens on Discord - https://sg.pn/discord SGPN Merch Store - https://sg.pn/store Download The Free SGPN App - https://sgpn.app Check out SGPN.TV Support us by supporting our partners Underdog Fantasy code SGPN - 100% Deposit Match up to $100 - https://sg.pn/underdog Follow The College Experience & SGPN On Social Media Twitter - https://twitter.com/TCEonSGPN Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/gamblingpodcast Instagram - http://www.instagram.com/sportsgamblingpodcast TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@gamblingpodcast Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/sportsgamblingpodcast Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/@TheCollegeExperience Follow The Hosts On Social Media Colby Dant - http://www.twitter.com/thecolbyd Patty C - https://twitter.com/PattyC831 NC Nick - https://twitter.com/NC__NicK Watch the Sports Gambling Podcast YouTube - https://www.sg.pn/YouTube Twitch - https://www.sg.pn/Twitch Read & Discuss - Join the conversation Website - https://www.sportsgamblingpodcast.com Slack - https://sg.pn/slack Reddit - https://www.sg.pn/reddit Learn more about your ad choices.
