Connelly ranked the QBs through 4 games with QBR being a part of the equation as well as stats and a general eye test---and he has USC's Jayden Maiava at No. 1 (93.4 QBR), followed by Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia, Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss, Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, and Oregon's Dante MooreRaiola fits at 25th with a 77.2 QBR, and Connelly points out his TD/INT ratio is impressive, but is concerned about the amount of time it takes him to throw the ball (2.89 seconds on average, 108th nationally); extremely short passes (6.2 air yards per attempt, 123rd); and amount of sacks taken (28.6% sacks to pressures, 119th). Dylan can still grow as a player…will those stats improve? In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back to discuss what they saw from USC in the 34-32 loss at Illinois. It was a disappointing effort from the Men of Troy and they will need to use this bye week to figure out what went wrong and how they can fix it heading into an extremely important home game against Michigan. After rewatching the game, the crew talks about some of the highs that stood out, including incredible performances by Jayden Maiava, Makai Lemon and the tight ends, and the most concerning lows that included poor linebacker play, a lack of pressure from defensive line and poor coverage skills in the secondary. They also give an update from Tuesday's practice, where head coach Lincoln Riley put any rumors of rampant food poisoning that had a major impact on the players to bed, saying that a few guys were affected but it wasn't widespread and it wasn't an excuse for why they played so poorly. They then provide some injury updates including center Kilian O'Connor being out at least two games and running back Bryan Jackson who has no timetable for his return. Coach Harvey Hyde diagnoses what went wrong in USC's 34-32 loss to Illinois

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the latest poor performance for the Trojans on the road, falling to the Fighting Illini 34-32 Saturday morning in Champaign. USC didn't look like it handled the multiple time zone travel and early kickoff very well, despite the team heading out to the Midwest a day early. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on what went wrong for the Trojans on this Big Ten road trip, with an offense that looked like it could do almost anything it wanted and a defense that looked confused and failed to pick up stops time and time again. USC had no business being in the game but somehow mounted a crazy 14-point comeback late, taking a 32-31 lead with under two minutes left in the game. Unfortunately the defense wasn't able to step up and the Trojans lead was short lived with Illinois kicking the game winning field goal as time expired. On the offensive side, Coach Hyde talks about how there shouldn't be any excuses for injuries, football is a physical game and guys get hurt. He wants to see a better rhythm with the offense and let quarterback Jayden Maiava run the football more. On the defensive side Coach Hyde thinks Lincoln Riley was critical of the defense for the first time. A couple of years ago Riley said he would be move involved with the defense but from what we can see, he hasn't been. He is also seeing a lot of confusion when the ball is snapped and guys don't look like they know what they should be doing. It doesn't appear that this group is playing as a cohesive unit and it's hard to win football games without a good defense. In this special edition of Tunnel Vision hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio taking a detailed look at USC's next opponent, the Illinois Fighting Illini. The Trojans have started out 2-0 in Big Ten play, with a road win against Purdue and a home victory against Michigan State. Now the task at hand becomes more difficult, playing an ranked Illinois squad that was just humiliated on the road by Indiana. The Illini will do everything it their power to bounce back and use the game against the Trojans as their "get right" game, but will Jayden Maiava and company simply be too much for the Illini? USC's offense has been clicking with an explosive passing attack and relentless ground game and it will try and exploit an Illinois defense that has been decimated by injuries in the secondary. The Trojans have only punted four times all season and with Maiava taking care of the football, the points have been coming fast and furious. Defensively no program has sacked the quarterback more than the Trojans and no Power Four school has given up as many sacks as the Illini. If the USC pass rush can get home, it should go a long way to picking up a win in Champaign. This is the podcast version of our Tunnel Vision video show. CLICK HERE for 30% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com!  Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio breaking down the Trojans 45-31 victory over Michigan State late Saturday night in the Coliseum. It looked like USC had put the game away but the Spartans, in large part to a series of SC mistakes, clawed their way back in the third quarter cutting the lead to just 7 points. At that point quarterback Jayden Maiava and the rest of the offense took over and created some much needed separation, thwarting any potential MSU miracle comeback. Through four games the offense has been elite with no turnovers for Maiava and only four punts on the season, one of which was garbage time in the final seconds of the Michigan State victory. USC is first in total offense at 584 yards per game, first in points per game at 52.5, 1st in points per play, 1st in yards per play at 9.1, 4th in nation with 7.1 yards per rush and 4th with 11.9 yards per pass attempt. It has been a different story on the defensive side of the ball, with some marked improvements over last season but also some major concerns. The front seven is getting after it, forcing a lot of negative plays and pressure on the opposing quarterbacks. However, the secondary is struggling with multiple busted coverages each game including two that turned into Spartan touchdowns on Saturday. The penalties have also derailed some of the better defensive efforts, including four flags on one MSU drive that turned a punt where USC got the ball back into a Michigan State touchdown. The crew talks about all of that and everything else they saw in the Coliseum and what their initial thoughts are heading into a tough road test against No. 23 Illinois. Both Ryan and Connor were in West Lafayette to witness the Trojans take down the Boilermakers 33-17 following a three-hour lightning delay. The Trojans didn't win a true conference road game last season and now get that monkey off their back as the Big Ten schedule begins to heat up. It wasn't the cleanest game for Lincoln Riley and company, with 9 penalties for 104 yards, 4 for 13 on 3rd down conversions and giving up double-digit explosive passing plays to Purdue. But the Trojans were able to make some big plays of their own, including three interceptions with a pick-6 by Jamaal Jarrett, 10 yards per pass attempt by Jayden Maiava, zero punts and a perfect 4 for 4 on fourth down plays. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio for the very first game recap show of a year, breaking down the absolute beatdown USC put on Missouri State. The Trojans took down the Bears 73-13, scoring at least 70 for the first time since the 2005 opener against Arkansas and putting up the most points since 1930 when USC hung 74 on California. It was a rude awakening for MSU who went on the road for its first game as an FBS program and got dismantled in the Coliseum by a very motivated Trojans squad. Offensively the Trojans were nearly flawless with only three incompletions thrown, 14 different players caught passes, 8 different players scored offensive touchdowns, averaged 10.5 yards per play, a perfect 7 for 7 in the red zone and one lone turnover on sack/fumble by backup quarterback Husan Longstreet. Defensively USC focused on using that bigger, more athletic defensive front to generate pressure and the plan worked, with the Trojans generating 5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. The defense forced a pair of turnovers including a pick-six, gave up just 224 yards and a paltry 3.9 yards per play and 2.2 yards per rush. The crew talks about this near flawless performance and what it means, if anything, for this football team going forward. They also discuss the differences from last season including that improved defensive front, the impressive running backs room, Jayden Maiava keeping the ball out of harms way, a different vibe during warm-ups and dropping the "Drip Check" individual entrance for a more team-focused approach. The scrimmage was open for media viewing, but we were not allowed to report on the specifics of what we saw out on the field. Coach Hyde gives his general thoughts on what he saw, from what the team looked like coming off the bus to what he witnessed from the press box as the offense was facing off against the defense. Overall Coach Hyde thinks the potential is there for a very good Trojan football team in 2025. He thinks that the players are better, he feels the position coaching is better, but he really wants to see an adjusted offensive philosophy. Coach sees the Trojans as a one-dimensional offense that doesn't play to the team's strengths and quarterback Jayden Maiava's strengths. If USC can run the ball more and put Maiava in favorable situations, Coach Hyde feels the Trojans can win a lot of games. The guys also talk about the NFL preseason debuts of quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Sam Darnold plus Michigan getting "sanctions" from the sign stealing scandal of a couple years back. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys return to break down the Trojans' thrilling come-from-behind, last-second 35-31 victory over Texas A&M in the Las Vegas Bowl and discuss the perpetual redesign of the Trojans' roster for the 2025 season. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun discussing the epic finish to Kyle Ford's collegiate career before Chris uses his 'Two-Minute Drill' to focus primarily on his love affair with the Pop Tarts Bowl. That leads to a discussion about the Helium Boys traveling to cover or at least attend the 2025 Pop Tarts Bowl with Chris making the declaration that he will get a Pop Tarts Bowl tattoo in exchange for VIP access/treatment from the Pop Tarts Bowl. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip after the bowl game, starting with what positive developments happen before the team traveled to Las Vegas as Kamari Ramsey and Emmanuel Pregnon announced their returns to the team. Ja'Kobi Lane's wild string of six consecutive receptions going for touchdowns is included as are fellow receivers Makai Lemon and Ford. USC's young offensive line gets its kudos as well. On the flip side, Shotgun and Chris discuss another up-and-down performance by quarterback Jayden Maiava as well as the confidence of and surrounding Maiava. Then Shotgun goes on a rant about Lincoln Riley's Renaissance Man attempts that have led him to be mediocre in areas he previously thrived. Some younger players that didn't get opportunities in the bowl game and the chance in receiver rotations are also featured. A discussion about the NCAA transfer portal and the impact of both the losses and acquisitions the Trojans have made since the portal opened leads to some puzzled worries from the podcast collaborators. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing the transfer portal as well as USC's searches for a linebacker coach and general manager. There are also questions about offseason momentum, offensive creativity and involvement of the tight end position. The Helium Boys also react to suggestions for the podcast for 2025 before the episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans and an Overtime period focused on New Year's Eve traditions. Coach Hyde has some strong opinions regarding the performance of the team in Vegas, including the play of quarterback Jayden Maiava. The young signal caller had a rough start to the game and made some ill-advised throws that led to a trio of interceptions, but he also showed great leadership late in the game helping the Trojans complete their 17-point comeback win. He also talks about some of the adjustments the USC defense made that led to three-straight stops in the second half, including a short field Aggie possession following a Maiava pick. He also has thoughts on how Lincoln Riley and the team handled themselves on the sidelines at Allegiant Stadium. The Helium Boys both have Quinten Joyner and Makai Lemon on their stock up section while the tight ends receive some love after being on the field on nearly every snap. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Jack Smith and Ryan Abraham are back from a late night in the Rose Bowl where they witnessed USC's first ever Big Ten road victory, taking down crosstown rival UCLA 19-13. It wasn't the prettiest game in recent memory, but head coach Lincoln Riley and the team will take the conference win regardless. The Trojans are now 6-5 and bowl eligible with an opportunity to knock Notre Dame out of a playoff berth next week in the Coliseum. This was a far from perfect performance by the Trojans, only scoring one touchdown while struggling in the red zone and allowing over 100 yards rushing to a UCLA squad that struggled to run the football this season. But USC did shutout the Bruins in the 4th quarter and closed out the game on a high note, outscoring UCLA 10-0 in that final period. New quarterback Jayden Maiava didn't turn the ball over and give the Bruins easy scores like he did last week against Nebraska, despite having a flu outbreak on team throughout the week leading up to the game. The guys talk about some of the issues they had with this game including some of the play calling, specifically in the red zone where USC kept throwing low percentage fade routes from inside the 5-yard line instead of just handing the ball off to the offensive MVP Woody Marks (Of the 9 plays the Trojans ran inside the UCLA 5-yard line, Marks only got one touch). Despite having no turnovers and amazing starting field position of USC's own 42 yard line, the Trojans could only put up 19 points, easily the worst offensive performance of the season. Luckily the other side of the ball may have played its best game, picking up three sacks on Ethan Garbers and only allowing 13 points while ending the game forcing two straight four-and-outs. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham and Jack Smith are in studio recapping how the Trojans got an important 28-20 victory over Nebraska and the positive first start for UNLV transfer quarterback Jayden Maiava. After losing four of the last five games, the Trojans were able to get back on the right track and finished the game strong against the Cornhuskers. Now USC just needs one win over rival UCLA or Notre Dame to become bowl eligible and get an extra couple of weeks of practice to help prepare this team for next season. On the defensive side of the ball the Trojans really played well, allowing only 13 points to the Nebraska offense and only 10 points that were not the direct result of USC turnovers. Before the guys give their thoughts on the game, they welcome in the USC left tackle Elijah Paige who played one of his best games against Nebraska, helping Woody Marks run for 146 yards and allow Maiava to complete over 71% of his passes. The interview with Paige was conducted in conjunction with House of Victory, an alumni-backed nonprofit collective dedicated to providing a competitive edge in the NIL space for University of Southern California student-athletes. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together with the rare opportunity to talk about a big Trojan football victory, following USC's 28-20 win over Nebraska Saturday afternoon in the Coliseum. Both teams came into the game desperate to get a win, with the Huskers losing three-straight and the Trojans dropping four of the last five. The victory brings USC's record to 5-5 with a win over rival UCLA in the Rose Bowl or Notre Dame in the Coliseum necessary to qualify for a post season game. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on how USC played following the bye week and what he liked and didn't like from the offense after head coach Lincoln Riley inserted UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava as the starting quarterback. Maiava started off slow but then got things going, finishing with three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, but also an ugly pick-6 and fumble deep in USC territory. Hyde talks about his arm strength and his ability to extend plays and pick up yardage with his legs, and how all of that helped Woody Marks and the run game get going. Defensively this USC defense did its job against a struggling Nebraska offense. The Trojans had five tackles for loss including two sacks and picked off a pair of Dylan Raiola passes including the final play of the game. Coach talks about what he saw from that side of the ball and how that can translate to the final two games of the season. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") were hoping for a chill show following the bye week but nothing is ever chill when you cover the Trojans. The guys will try and focus on previewing this extremely important matchup with Nebraska, with both teams fighting desperately for the privilege of playing in a bowl game. The Huskers are riding a 3-game losing streak, the second-straight Big Ten opponent to have entered the Coliseum after losing three-straight, while the Trojans have dropped four of their last five games. They will also discuss the major offensive changes both programs made during the bye week, with USC benching Miller Moss in favor of Jayden Maiava at quarterback and Nebraska promoting newly hired offensive analyst Dana Holgorsen to offensive coordinator, calling plays for freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola. The early signing period is quickly approaching and the Trojans top-10 recruiting class for 2025 is already taking hits, most notably the de-commit of four-star edge rusher Hayden Lowe. The guys weigh in on this recruiting failure and where USC can go from here to help bolster the defensive line through high school recruiting. USC is also dealing with a minor distraction after being issued a 1-year probation and $50,000 fine from the NCAA for allowing analysts to coach players during 2022 and 2023. Matt Rhule isn't messing around. He knows he has to win at Nebraska, and his latest move shows how important it is for the Huskers to get to a bowl game this season! Less than a week after hiring for West Virginia and Houston Head Coach Dana Holgorsen as an "offensive consultant," Rhule hands Holgorsen the keys to the offense and says drive as fast as possible!  Former OC Marcus Satterfield will remain on the staff for at least the rest of the season; after that, who knows?  Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka discuss the change in this Husker Doc Talk Podcast edition. Why now? Well, it's because Nebraska's offense has stalled out. The Huskers rank 96th nationally in total yards and 99th nationally in points scored.  The Huskers will be looking for yards, points, and a win this weekend at USC. The Trojans have made their own change: a new starting quarterback. Jayden Maiava, who transferred from UNLV, is a dual-threat quarterback who is also trying to get USC to a bowl game and get Lincoln Riley off the Los Angeles hot seat.  Don't forget, this podcast would not be possible without our sponsors! Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down another disappointing USC loss, this time with a slightly different script but with all the familiar elements as the Trojans held a fourth-quarter lead on the road only to relinquish the lead and not be able to find the end zone for the game-winning score. They also look forward, giving their thoughts on what to expect following Lincoln Riley's decision to bench Miller Moss in favor of Jayden Maiava. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun discussing the anniversary of a classic Helium Boys road trip as well as the Women of Troy getting a gutsy season-opening victory in the Aflec Oui-Play event in Paris. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to tell an epic story of trying to find food after the conclusion of the USC-Washington game. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Zachariah Branch had one of his best games this season while young pass rushers Sam Greene and Kameryn Fountain continue to earn more opportunities. Maiava's stock is obviously on the rise as he takes over the reins of the USC offense and the Trojans' run game, when given a chance, continues to excel recently. On the flip side, the Trojans' saw some weak points at right tackle as well as one of their cornerback spots. Those and Riley's playcalling are focused upon in the Stock Down portion. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing young players that could become starters next season and USC women's basketball's dramatic win in Paris. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans and what stood out from Shotgun's trip to Paris. Preseason polls mean absolute squat.Ok, that may be a bit harsh but today's guest on Y-Option, thanks to our founding partner 76, is Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham. His Sun Devils were picked to finish last in the new look Big 12 in the preseason and as we enter November, his squad is in the thick of the Big 12 race. This week, they welcome Central Florida to Tempe and the Valley will certainly be activated.I've always felt that ASU was a “sleeping giant” and in their new league with very few dominant teams, it looks like they are building toward that. With Dillingham, an alum and Scottsdale native leading the way, there is no reason why they can't become a power within the Big 12. It certainly helps having a Heisman candidate in Cam Skattebo aka That Dude! for them as well. We asked the ASU head coach the latest on Cam's health too. While USC is not in the conversation for the Big Ten title, they are always a story, even on a bye week. The Trojans made a change at QB and will start UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava, who thrived last year in Las Vegas throwing for 3,085 pass yds and 17 passing touchdowns while rushing for 277 yards with 3 scores. We dive into that decision and how sensitive the QB room is.Finally, we look into the first week of the College Football Playoff rankings, what they mean for the Washington State Cougars and how the committee may be viewing this season with the new format.I'm off to Kansas City to call Iowa State and Kansas in a Big 12 contest on FS1 at Arrowhead Stadium. And no, I won't be eating any BBQ (I'm vegetarian), but I am on the hunt for a cool cafe. If you have any recommendations please let us know on social media, @ Y-Option.Enjoy Week 11 and amid changes in all of our worlds, stay steady.YogiThis episode is executive produced by Jim Thornby and edited by Victor RenThis podcast is a Best Coast Media productionY-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is a reader-supported publication. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the breaking news that USC head coach Lincoln Riley has made a move a quarterback, naming UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava the starter heading into the Nebraska game. On Monday night Connor broke the news that Miller Moss was being replaced by Maiava and on Tuesday several other reporters confirmed his report. Then after practice on Tuesday Riley made it official, saying that starting Maiava was the best thing for the team. The guys talk about this major move heading into the bye week, why they think Riley pulled the trigger and how this can impact the team for the final three regular season games including the two rivalry matchups. They also take a look back at the Washington loss that now puts USC in a tough position sitting at 4-5. After the LSU win the goal shifted to making the College Football Playoff.
