With the holidays on the horizon, Mike and Bill were feeling a little scrambled and decided, rather than focus on one prominent player or incident, they'd just pick a game at random and talk about it. They landed in Montreal on August 19th, 1974, as the Padres took on the Expos. In addition to an exciting back and forth game, they talk about Parc Jarry, Willie Davis, Ron Hunt, the Chuck Taylor All Stars and more! Plus, happy birthday to Jimmy "Pepper' Austin and Ernest "Spoon" Carter!
Send us a Text Message. The pitcher who has hit the most batters in MLB history is one that you have almost certainly never heard about before - Gus Weyhing. Walter 'Big' Train Johnson is 2nd and Randy 'Big Unit' Johnson third all-time hitting batters and they pitched 75 years apart. If you think players are getting hit and injured more often there's reason for that. In baseball history 7 of the top 25 seasons in teams being hit by pitches have occurred since 2016. 20 out of the 25 most-hit batters on a team have happened since 1997. What makes it more dangerous is that pitchers throw harder than ever and the injuries suffered by some hit batsmen are often season-changing for the player and team. Which players get hit most often today? In MLB history? Which pitchers hit the most batters now? HOFer Hughie Jennings got plunked more than anyone else in MLB history. HOFer Craig Biggio is 2nd all time proving that playing many years is a requisite for being on that list! Who has the record for being hit the most in one season? If you can't hit then - get hit! Despite the understandable enthusiasm around supply chain sustainability, there are many challenges associated with the fight to lower emissions: regulations, costs, and engineering, just to name a few. One of the challenges procurement will appreciate most, is the journey towards a workable business model that reflects today's infrastructure reality and companies' ability to invest. In this episode of The Sourcing Hero podcast, Host Kelly Barner welcomes Ron Hunt. Ron is the Director of Business Development for Forum Mobility, a company working to make it realistic for fleets to achieve their zero emissions goals without having to build capital intensive charging capabilities. In this interview, Ron shares much of the advice he offers to carriers looking to partner with their customers as they pursue zero emissions fleets: Issues fleet operators may run into when evaluating the transition to zero emissions vehicles The current supply/demand balance between carriers offering a zero emissions fleet and shippers looking for them How regulations are driving this transition v. sustainability and ESG goals Links: Ron Hunt on LinkedIn
That's the message in a certain way of the very existence of companies like Forum Mobility, around for just a couple years as a vehicle-charging-services and equipment leasing company. Company regional director Ron Hunt leads the podcast with that very notion, sounding like many an owner-operator in wait-and-see mode around electric-drive tech and battery-charging-infrastructure development. Hunt's a veteran of the trucking world who got involved with electric-truck start-up Xos Trucks some time back. Yet what he learned led him to the charging-infrastructure side, in part given absolutely huge barriers that exist to any widespread adoption of electric Class 8s. On October 25 we published the anchor story in a series around electric-drive-power realities, in which Alex Lockie unveiled and contextualized Overdrive readers' views on the current state of electrification as it relates the specific needs of their mostly OTR businesses: https://www.overdriveonline.com/equipment/article/15544337/teslas-semi-may-blow-past-diesels-uphill-but-truckers-see-limits Putting it quite succinctly, here's how one owner-operator commenter in some ways summed up current views on the nature of quite literally all battery-electric Class 8 technology as it relates to bedrock operational feasibility OTR: "It's not going to work, the power grid can't handle it, and the trucks don't go far enough on a charge." Hunt and his colleagues at the Forum Mobility company aim to help on the grid front, and well realize any “electric revolution” will be a good long time in coming to trucking, even port drayage where they're specializing. It is certainly growing fast if electric Class 8 tractors running in California still only number in the low three digits, Ron Hunt emphasized. Port drayage in the state is where those units are most prominent, for good reason. The California Air Resources Board has done everything it can to really make the market there, with an end-of-year deadline for dray haulers to register their diesels within CARB's system. And as of the first of the year, if lawsuits don't derail this particular deadline (a little more on that in the podcast, and here: https://www.overdriveonline.com/regulations/article/15636769/california-trucking-association-seeks-injunction-of-diesel-truck-ban ), any truck registered to work California ports must be a “zero emissions vehicle” – we'll use that ZEV shorthand a bit, though no manufactured product in today's world is truly “zero emissions." Forum Mobility is aiming nonetheless to be a power provider with subscription-based charging access to sites in both Southern and Northern California specifically built with drayage trucks in mind. They're also combining electric truck-lease services with those charging-power subscriptions for those who want to pursue that kind of model, as they build a planned six facilities over the next couple years. Today on the podcast, excerpts from a talk with Ron Hunt and two other Forum reps about how the business got its start and just where it's planning to go to serve drayage haulers in California, and beyond. Another related element of the series is this feature about Hight Logistics, Forum Mobility's partner small fleet now running five electric trucks in SoCal ports leased through Forum: https://www.overdriveonline.com/equipment/article/15546421/small-fleet-owner-predicts-longterm-roi-with-batteryelectric
As promised, a shorter version of my bible study PowerPoint presentation concerning Paul's instructions and warnings to us in Ephesians 5 and Colossians 3. We are always mindful to never diminish the glory and mercy and love the Lord displayed for us on Calvary and in his glorious conquering of the curse of death in his resurrection. We can never lose that free gift as it is complete and fully paid for! What we can lose are rewards and crowns. Our service is under review. This just happens to be episode 33 of season 3. The Masons have a thing for the number 33. The baseball player shown is Ron Hunt. He is known for getting hit by a lot of pitches and is one of my brother Joe's favorite players! My brother wore number 33 when he played street hockey.
The other day, with Tommy Pham's home run chain, an interesting connection emerged. Parson Perryman, who gave up Elmer Smith's first home run in 1915, gave up only one other major league home run, to Jack Fournier, who is part of Francisco Lindor's home run chain, which we had not gotten to yet.Lindor hit his 18th home run of the season last night, and 202nd of his career, off Ryne Nelson, as part of the Mets' 9-0 victory in Phoenix, their fifth straight triumph.* Francisco Lindor hit his first home run off Buck Farmer, 6/24/15* Buck Farmer gave up his first home run to Travis Snider, 8/13/14* Travis Snider hit his first home run off Kevin Slowey, 9/4/08* Kevin Slowey gave up his first home run to Eric Chávez, 6/1/07* Eric Chávez hit his first home run off LaTroy Hawkins, 5/15/99* LaTroy Hawkins gave up his first home run to Harold Baines, 4/29/95* Harold Baines hit his first home run off Jim Palmer, 4/19/80* Jim Palmer gave up his first home run to Moose Skowron, 4/19/65* Moose Skowron hit his first home run off Alex Kellner, 4/15/54* Alex Kellner gave up his first home run to Yogi Berra, 4/26/49* Yogi Berra hit his first home run off Jesse Flores, 9/22/46* Jesse Flores gave up his first home run to Nanny Fernandez, 4/29/42* Nanny Fernandez hit his first home run off Hal Schumacher, 4/17/42* Hal Schumacher gave up his first home run to Don Hurst, 4/15/31* Don Hurst hit his first home run off Red Lucas, 5/15/28* Red Lucas gave up his first home run to Jack Fournier, 5/5/24* Jack Fournier hit his first home run off Joe Engel, 8/7/13* Joe Engel gave up his first home run to Donie Bush, 6/10/12* Donie Bush hit his first home run off Ray Collins, 5/17/10* Ray Collins gave up his first home run to Hobe Ferris, 7/30/09* Hobe Ferris hit his first home run off Bill Reidy, 6/11/01* Bill Reidy gave up his first home run to Mike Donlin, 5/25/01* Mike Donlin hit his first home run off Bill Bernhard, 8/26/99* Bill Bernhard gave up his first home run to Jimmy Williams, 7/24/99* Jimmy Williams hit his first home run off Jack Dunn, 6/29/99* Jack Dunn gave up his first home run to Cy Seymour, 5/6/97* Cy Seymour hit his first home run off Bill Hoffer, 4/30/97* Bill Hoffer gave up his first home run to Mike Griffin, 4/26/95* Mike Griffin hit his first home run off Ed Seward, 4/16/87As for last night, it was more than a Good Night for Lindor, it was a great one: 5-for-5 with a homer and two triples — the rare double shy of the cycle. The last time a Met was a double shy was last July 29, when Starling Marte had a single, triple, and homer in Miami. The only other time that a Met was a double shy of the cycle but had another, superior extra-base hit? Rico Brogna with two homers on May 11, 1996 against the Cubs. Shoutout to those who also, like Lindor, had two singles: Gary Carter (1985), Dave Magadan (1990), Damion Easley (2008), Travis d'Arnaud (2017), and Amed Rosario (2019).Lindor is the first Met to finish a double shy of the cycle and have a five-hit game. That's happened only three other times since Brett Gardner became the only player to do this against the Mets, in 2009: Eduardo Escobar (2014 Twins), Tucker Barnhart (2018 Reds), and David Peralta (2021 Diamondbacks). The Mets' record for triples in a game remains three, set by Doug Flynn in 1980. Lindor joins Joe Chrisotpher, back on August 18, 1964, in the Mets' two-triples-and-a-homer-in-the-same-game club. Those hits were important as Christopher hit exactly .300 for the season, joining Ron Hunt as the Mets' first pair of .300 hitters — Richie Ashburn set the early team record at .306 in 1962, and Hunt was the team's batting champ at .272 in the 111-loss second season. #mlbrecords #mlbpodcast #baseballpodcast #podcast

Ron Hunt can rightly be described as loving the ball more than any batter in the 1971 season, when he became the first batter to be hit by fifty pitches in a single year. It wasn't an aberration either; in the last seven years of his twelve year career he led the Hit By Pitch counter in the National League. His all-time count of 243 HBPs was the record in the live-ball era, and would not be overtaken for sixteen years. We join Ron Hunt as he leads off for the Expos as the Dodgers visit Canada for a double-header. Behind the microphone, who else, but Vin Scully. You can find the boxscore here. This game was played on June 11th, 1971. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/classicbaseballradio/message

Shari Hammond and I sit down and talk about how she started out inventing with her father and created her company Inspired Product Design Group, all while being a single mother. ********Shari was a marketing director for a variety of businesses. She was better to… creating her own inventions and working side-by-side with her father. Shari Hammond is the Founder/CEO of Inspired Product Development Group and the inventor behind Cabinet Caddy (www.CabinetCaddy.com) and Go Hang It (www.GoHangIt.com). A single mother of a 13-year-old son, she is a woman of faith, an entrepreneur, a product developer, graphic designer, lacrosse/basketball mom, 9 Round kickboxer, and dog lover. Her company, now called Inspired Product Design Group, first started as a hobby between Shari and her father, Ron Hunt, while he was an engineer for IBM. Ron enjoyed designing products made of wood that were functional; LP holders, bookends, calendars. Having success at local trade shows, the two decided when Shari was 8 years old to open a kiosk store in Highland Mall in Austin, TX. It was a big hit. Shari recalls late nights decorating and stocking the kiosk, taking naps in the car, and working weekends at the mall. About 10 years later, her dad took early retirement from IBM, and together they launched CD3 Storage Systems, Inc. with the design of our Discgear compact disc holders. At the age of 19, Shari had her first patent. Next came Perfect Petzzz, lifelike breathing puppies and kittens, followed by a break when Shari went on to handle marketing for Ronco. In 2018, Shari and her father went back to their roots developing products. Through Inspired Product Design Group, products include Cabinet Caddy, a modular organizer for kitchen cabinets/cupboards, and Go Hang It, an all-in-one picture hanging and leveling kit. In 2020, HomeDepot.com began carrying Go Hang It and QVC began featuring Cabinet Caddy. Shari was a winner of “The Big Find,” an invention competition through QVC/HSN.www.InspiredPDG.comhttps://www.facebook.com/InspiredPDGhttps://twitter.com/InspiredPD https://www.instagram.com/inspiredpdg/Gwww.Facebook.com/CabinetCaddywww.Facebook.com/GoHangItwww.Instagram.com/CabinetCaddywww.Instagram.com/GoHangIt******Video of the interview is available here: https://youtu.be/Fge_sTGLXmQHave a question or want to be a guest on the podcast email: dauna@bettertopodcast.comTo see upcoming guests click here: https://www.dmneedom.com/better-topodcast©2021 Better To...Podcast with D.
