Safieddine and Ryan Brothers (founders of BFY doughnut maker Drumroll) connected with SF&WB's Brett Parker to discuss their growth since they started the company in 2019, as well as their plans for the future. They also talk about the recent $3 million investment from 7-Mile Brands and plans to harness the funds to fuel future expansion.
Hosting my two guests on Episode 7 of GD&F was a HUGE treat for me, and those guests are brothers, Brendan and Billy Ryan. I grew up only a pitching wedge away from the Ryan family and have known them my entire life. I admire Brendan & Billy on many levels, but mostly because they are simply amazing human beings. The musical talents that they explore in the band they formed with Bill Campion, PJ O'Connor, Mark Wike, and Clive___ in the late 80's called The Bogmen are simply a bonus. The sound of a Bogmen show is full of “heavy rhythms, bouncy, distorted guitar riffs, analog synths, and belting vocals” and their concerts have been described as “a religious experience”. We delve into how the band was signed to Arista in the 90's and disbanded shortly thereafter to explore their solo careers. They recount how the band reconnected again following 9/11, when Brendan's lost his wife in the World Trade Center, disbanded a second time, and then reunited again in 2020 following the sudden death of one of their closest friends, fellow Huntington native Greg Kline. We explore the making of their latest album, In My Kingdom, and peek at what's ahead for the brothers. Join us, and let's see where the energy takes us!Links: www.thebogmen.com www.ryanbrosmusic.com http://www.instagram.com/thebogmen?igsh=bTR3aDU4b2Z4ZG52

Coley believes the NBA Finals are a wrap. Done. Finished. Faneto. Tyler believes the Cavs still have an outside chance. Also, the Olympics is finally getting 3v3 basketball and a full breakdown on the Ryan Brothers very un-Jimmy Buffett like behavior at Margaritaville.

If you thought last week's show was crazy, you'll need to plug your ears and hide from this one. The first half is remarkably sedate: an unreleased Negativland live recording from their 2012 tour, with Crosley Bendix explaining why there can never again be any original music, followed by Princess Wei's reading of a touching rant by Rev. Chocolate Velvet (with music by The Flyin' Ryan Brothers). But then Dave calls in, and Stang starts sneaking especially ear-futtering stereo LeMurian clips into the mix. It gets more chaotic, psychedelic and surreal than usual -- OLD SCHOOL Hour of Slack! Then, Dr. Sinister arrives. AIEEE! $35 2-for-1 SubGenius Membership SLACK FRIDAY Special Sale Button
Little bit o' collage, little bit o' X-Day, little bit of everything. Ranting, yakking by Dr. Hal, Dr. Legume, Rev. Baby Bear, Dr. Sinister, Rev. Stang, Puzzling Evidence, Dr. Philo Drummond, Rev. Phineas Narco, callers (Dok Zir, Pope Jannus Blackseed, The Large). Songs/music by Phat ManDee, Andrew the Impaled, Amoeba Knievel, The Psycho Skeletons, The Flyin' Ryan Brothers, The Slot Robs, The Large, and The Sultans of Ping. Good cross section of "2013" SubGenius radio, live music and homebound geekery.
We'll be back to all-new shows soon. Meanwhile, reruns like this one from 2004 are cutting us some much-needed Slack. This episode is a cross-section of a rousing Cleveland devival combined with some choice live ESO Swamp Radio from the late Chas Smith's WCSB show and some Lymph Node Institute rants from "Bob's" Slacktime Fun House (WREK Atlanta). We hear sermons from preachers Rev. Carter LeBlanc, Priestess Pisces, and Rev. Stang, and songs (or something) by the incredible Man, Inc. of Detroit, Lonesome Cowboy Dave's band Mondo Retardo, The Flyin' Ryan Brothers, Norel Pref, and even The Beastie Boys (!).
Right after a short opening about Recent African Origins by the host of the show before ours at WCSB, Charleston Okafor, Dr. G. Gordon Gordon reveals the meaning of life -- seriously! -- in 2 minutes. That one rant justifies the whole rest of the show. Opening collages are mostly by Rev. Royal de Capitator and Ministry of Slack, with a nice instrumental by The Psycho Skeletons. (The Deadwood soundbites sound a LOT different on the broadcast version, by the way.) The next 46 minutes are live studio yak (Lonesome Cowboy Dave on phone) with a lovely background "rug" (as we sound people call background music) from The Flyin' Ryan Brothers' new album. The conversation rambles all over the place, although the subject of history repeating itself, well, repeats itself in various ways. There's a lot about Early African Origins and recent DNA-related advances in paleoanthropology connecting Neanderthals and Denisovans to modern non-African humans. Stang provides a brief history of Easter Island, which suddenly captured our interest the day before this show. The swiftly increasing superstition and gullibility in mass media and its audience is addressed with disgust disguised as humor. You can find the complete log in the radio page of subgenius.com. New SubG blog by Dr. Hal, Rev. Stang, Rev. John Shirley
We don't usually do a lot with topical, current news, because we are more concerned with eternal verities. Also, there's too much lag-time between show production and most stations running them. This time, however, some collages by Phineas Narco of National Cynical (most of them shortened for this show) give the first half of this show a (twisted) political twist. Also, we enjoy teasing our friends who are more conservative than we are. Wei coined the term "Slackreligious" for the song by Popess Pantiara Evokavitch (with Rev. "Suds" Pshaw), "Feed the Stangs," although the term fits the whole show and in fact the entire Church. A new "Bob" hymn by The Cryogenic Strawberries, some recent Puzzling Evidence and a song by a charming "little girl band," ShiSho, are also worked in. The second half is mostly live with Lonesome Cowboy Dave calling in, and like most live shows jumps erratically from subject to subject, mostly recent news. There's some great background music from The Flyin' Ryan Brothers' new CD. The cuss-free broadcast version of this live episode ends at 59:39, but the Internet version goes on for another 11 minutes -- for Dr. Sinister, the host of the show following ours on WCSB Cleveland (Radio Synaesthesia), ran late. Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Princess Wei and I, Stang, were thus suddenly "the foxes in the henhouse," left to our own devices. We used the time to make ourselves an Hour of Slack promo for WCSB, an intro for Radio Synaesthesia, and to discuss The Flyin' Ryan Brothers, an oddity among SubGenius bands in that they sound like pros instead of SubGeniuses. Note for Clevelandians: WCSB Masquerade Ball/Halloween party next Saturday Oct. 29 at Cleveland Public Theater, 9 PM; station Open House on Nov. 20 -- see http://wcsb.org TO DONATE: http://subgenius.com/ts/hos.html OUR CATALOGS: http://www.subgenius.com/scatalog/mediashack.html http://www.cafepress.com/subgen
Mostly live in the WCSB studio with Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Rev. Stang and Princess Wei -- our first live show in weeks. Much stored-up gas is released. Topics include The Bigfoot Corpse, SubGenius Funerals, Prehistoric Dave Men and Dave Women, The Pyramid of Dobbs, upcoming events. Rev. Norel Pref's collages are abused, as are those by that cut-up Fernandinande LeMur. New music by Mose Giganticus, The Flyin' Ryan Brothers, The Psycho Skeletons.
