Last week we said we were going to take off this week to get some much needed R&R. 2024 was having none of it. In the span of the last week we've had a month's worth of news, crises and developments. From Trump's abysmal performance at the NABJ conference to a story so bizarre you have to hear it straight from the source to believe it, the news won't quit. So we won't either. And oh yeah, by the way, Harris named her VP pick. Tim Walz is a leader of integrity, honor, humility and fight. He's a friend of host Paul Rieckhoff and he's a patriotic, down to earth and lovable bulldog. He knows how to fight against (but also alongside) Republicans. He understands that making real and lasting change in Washington requires bipartisanship. Especially now. It's a big bold pick that won't make everyone happy. But it guarantees that there will be a veteran as VP in the next administration. Veterans who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan are starting to shape the political landscape, just like the generations of veterans that came before them. We'll always celebrate that. Every episode of Independent Americans is independent light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. It's content for the 51% of Americans that now call themselves independent. Always with a unique focus on national security, foreign affairs and military and vets issues. This is another pod to help you stay vigilant. Because vigilance is the price of democracy. The Adventures of Goldilocks and Baby Bear: What Happened Next by Linda HepnerGoldilocks and Baby Bear are both just turning five years old and become fast friends. He is drawn to her impulsive sense of curiosity and she to his warmth. In an idealized childhood near a forest they have frequent adventures, but are helped along by their friends, wild creatures, and even trees! The stories are a mix of childlike fantasies and real-life experiences which teach kindness, courage, and self-reliance.About the AuthorLinda Hepner grew up in England and these are some stories inspired by her early life with her cousins and country walks she took with her imaginative father. These stories are only a handful of the many she has told to each of her American children and grandchildren. They are true tales, in a way, and so are the creatures who reenact some of the scenes from her life.Linda thinks they are best read aloud, and she hopes the children listening will have lots of adventures of their own!About the IllustratorBarbara Mendes is a muralist, creator of "Comix" and the Queen of Cosmos series for Red 5 Comics.https://www.amazon.com/Adventures-Goldilocks-Baby-Bear-Happened/dp/1636613373/ref=sr_1_1?qid=1698685107&refinements=p_27:Linda+Hepner&s=books&sr=1-1&text=Linda+Hepnerhttp://www.urlinkpublishing.comhttp://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/5924lhurl.mp3

In this episode Rachel is excited to introduce her special friend, grief buddy, soul sister, extraordinary expressor of the heart and channel of wisdom and Love: Diane Romagnoli. This is an unrehearsed conversation and Rachel's first time interviewing another person on the podcast, yet Diane speaks as she always does, so eloquently and purely from her heart and soul, in this dialogue between two soul-connected friends. Diane shares how her son Matty, through her soul-to soul connection with him, has helped her love herself, discovering her big Self and connection to the divine. She also shares spiritual tools that have brought her soulful connection and peace, linked below with links to Diane's downloads/writings/blog, as well. (I see Matty with Baby Bear on his shoulders.) This is a cliche that I live in your heart? A worn- out line in love songs, or a feel-good mantra? No, this is not cliché. This is truth and the poets, the artists… they always know first. They often know, not knowing what they even know. Keep going. I'm here. I will lead you to find your soul, your higher self. This is the you who is with me now. Then you can know we are together still… even between the signs."

Hour 2 - Bonta and Shasky react to Nick Bosa's recent comments about his slow start to the year sack wise.
Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Sarah Roberto, who brought her trendy Stanley Quencher tumbler. She says some people hide a can of hard seltzer on ice in the tumbler. Sarah enjoys visiting Washington, D.C. She and her husband felt lucky to get tickets to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum because the tickets are often sold out. The last time Sarah was here, Frank accidentally deleted the video files on the camera. As Frank got stressed, Sarah urged him to look up how to restore a file deleted from a Micro SD card. He restored the files and posted the show to YouTube but now can't delete the raw files. This episode is sponsored by the Secret City Improv Festival, October 6 and 7, 2023 at the Historic Grove Theater in Oak Ridge. See performances by 23 professional troupes and 3 local high school troupes. Performances are on Friday, October 6th at 7pm, 9p, and 11pm and on Saturday, October 7th at 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, 8:45pm and 10:30pm. Buy your tickets online at https://secretcityimprovfest.com/frank Sarah posts about her dog Baby Bear and about her weight loss on TikTok. After her last visit, she started getting ads on TikTok about canned mackerel, which is something Frank talked about in her presence. The app must have been listening to their conversation. Frank's Facebook and Instagram feeds have a lot of ads for prescription drugs even though Frank chooses “do not show this ad.” Sarah credits psychiatric medicine with helping her. Sarah warned her husband not to wear just his socks around the house for fear of falling. Frank sometimes worries that he will die at home while his wife is at work. Frank's neighbor across the street asked Frank to keep an eye on his pool. When Frank texted his contact card to the neighbor, the man was surprised to see the photo of “professional Frank” instead of “neighborhood Frank.” Sarah used artificial intelligence to create images of herself in different situations. She created a headshot and an image with the U.S. Capitol in the background. Sarah likes Frank's neighborhood because the neighbors know each other. When Frank's home alarm went off, six different neighbors checked on things to make sure it was just a false alarm. Sarah promises to bring iced pumpkin spice coffee the next time she visits. It's been a minute, but we're back in the podcast saddle! Sean and Kathleen crap on realtors and life coaches. Watching people look at the house you're trying to sell sucks, but judging other people's homes is fun. Your car's brakes vs. a rental car's brakes. Hoarders and their soup cans. Lost love letters. Big inheritance energy. Getting egg shamed. Old school Ozempic. Using ChatGPT to break bad news. First will and testament (Sean gets the dick bong). Getting kicked out of weddings. “Loan denied. At least you don't have cancer!” Getting recognized for dark jokes. “I'm gonna find your son and marry him.” Anonymous Lecomber. Scott Thompson is a legend - go see him if you have a chance! “The Golden Bachelor.” Shout out to Puff Mama! Kathleen is the Trump of Canadian comedy! Hosted on Acast. https://302.buzz/PM-WhatAreYourThoughtsThe medical world is accomplishing great things; for example - Rapid Whole Genome Sequencing. A cutting-edge concept that has cut diagnoses of rare diseases from weeks and months to days and hours. It's called Project Baby Deer and it's focused on implementing evidence-based precision medicine and pediatrics to facilitate rapid whole genome sequencing for sick inpatients, neonates and children across the state. The project was born out of a collaboration between Dr. Caleb Bupp, Dr. Andrea Scheurer and Dr. Joseph Fakhoury. Your host, Dr. Lia Gaggino talks with these 3 clinicians about this groundbreaking initiative that is helping to provide better care for children across the state. If you know someone who is in medical school, you'll need to share this episode with them. [00:33 -28:07] Intros / What is Rapid Whole Genome Sequencing?Michigan's “Baby Deer” project was designed after California's “Baby Bear” project. The genetic code is made up of billions of adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G) and thymine (T)Variations in the code is what makes us unique. In the past, sequencing was expensive and slow, but technology has made it faster and cheaper.Entire genetic code can be sequenced in hours with accurate results.[28:08- 35:40] Benefits of Genetic Testing for Children Genetic testing can provide important information about a child's risk of developing a particular health condition in the future.Genetic testing is faster and cheaper than ever before.Genetic testing can help reduce the cost of care by providing more accurate diagnoses and treatments. It can also help identify inherited traits and conditions that could affect a child's health.Knowing the cause of a medical issue helps make better decisions on how to treat it[35:41 -46:04] The Benefits of CollaborationBronson and DeVos hospitals collaborated to develop a comprehensive consent process, as well as a system for sharing and analyzing the data. The two hospitals have also developed a system for follow-up care, ensuring that any positive results are followed up on and that any negative results are discussed with the family. The collaboration between Bronson and DeVos has made rapid WGS accessible to more families and has helped to improve the quality of care for those families.Although the cost is a main barrier to expansion, the collaboration between the two hospitals will provide rapid WGS to patients in need.[46:05 - 1:02:49] What is Rare Disease Day? Rare Disease Day is the last day of February, the rarest day of the year.It is a day to raise awareness and hope for the 300 million people worldwide who live with a rare disease. It is a day to highlight the need for research, support, and advocacy for these diseases. It has been happening every year since 2008.[1:02:50 - 1:08:48] Closing segment Takeaway. You can reach Dr. Joseph FakhouryFacebook: Joe Fakhoury | FacebookInstagram: @jfakhoury.515LinkedIn:

Ben Ashby, head of investments at Rayliant Global Advisors, says that the U.S. stock market may be better positioned than the rest of the world right now, that's mostly because the outlook for almost all global markets right now is grim. He's anticipating trouble -- and sparse to no growth for the U.S. market and economy -- with little reason for optimism expected until the end of next year. Meanwhile, he described three types of bear markets -- apa Bear, Mama Bear and Baby Bear -- and says he thinks current problems will lead to the middle ground, but notes that a Mama Bear can be deep and difficult. Jack Kleinhenz, chief economist for the national Retail Federation and a member of the National Association for Business Economics Outlook Survey Committee discusses the results of the latest poll of economists, released today, showing that the researchers aren't holding out much optimism for 2023. Plus, Kyle Guske, investment analyst at New Constructs, puts another 'zombie stock' into The Danger Zone and in the Market Call, Andy Braun, portfolio manager for the Pax Large Cap fund, talks about stocks.
In the seventy-fourth episode, Jake, Chris, Matt and former co-host Wyatt chat with puppeeter Tau Bennett, where they talk about his introduction to puppetry, meeting fellow puppeteers Kevin Clash and Leslie Carrara-Rudolph, getting to perform Baby Bear in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade at only 11-years-old, originating the role of Tamir, starting his own projects such as "The Rumble Ensemble" and "Cold Sober" and so much more!

In honor of this spooky month, this episode is all about what scares evangelical Christians to death (but we forgot to even really talk much about Halloween–oops!). From cuss words to the “devil's lettuce” to feminist theory to children's media not being superheteronormative (Baby Bear from Sesame Street can't have a doll, he's a boy!!!), we discuss why these “scandalous” things are actually not that scary, and often can be good things!
