Hey look it's a book by friend of the pod John Shirley! Let's take a look-see! Are Phil and I the biggest Borderlands fans? Absolutely not! So this could go one of two directions. Then again I think that's true for all series huh? Our Socials Follow us at patreon.com/pixellitpod and hop into our Discord! Blue Sky: https://bsky.app/profile/pixellitpod.com Instagram: https://instagram.com/pixellitpod Book Synopsis His name's Roland. Soldier class, a former mercenary, he's on a full-time mission to scrape a living out of the most dangerous planet in the galaxy. Is he qualified? He's well armed, he's ruthless, and he's tougher than skag hide. And, oh yeah—he's strapped with some of the most exotic weaponry this side of the Vault, not to mention possessing fists like chunks of steel. Zac Finn and his wife and young son had better get on the right side of Roland, because a stopover in orbit has turned into a nightmarish fall to the unforgiving landscape of the Borderlands. Zac hopes to find a strange new alien treasure in the Borderlands to turn his down-spiraling life around. But his wife, Marla, and his son, Cal, just want to survive, and reunite, because catastrophe has left them separated by hundreds of klicks. Their chances aren't good . . . and Roland is all that stands between them and the planet's kill-crazed Psychos and murderous bandits—not to mention the grotesque primals, giant wyrm squids, insane tunnel rats, voracious skags, brutal bruisers, and ruthless mercs.

On this week's episode, Chris and Sylvie finally put to bed the hot-button media debate of our age - Is RoboCop PoLiTiCaL?? While the Paul Verhoeven 1987 masterpiece is unassailable on this front, what about the oft forgotten attempt to soften the hard edges of the NSFW sci-fi satire for Saturday morning television that premiered a year later? What gets lost in translation when you take one of the hardest R-rated movies ever released that poignantly and painfully tackles reagonomics, capitalism, dehumanization, and the militarization of the police force and make it for kids? And the most pressing question, does this make RoboCop technically Canadian? Episode covered for the podcast is Episode 4 "The Brotherhood." Episode 122 of Postcards is a special episode featuring the return of one of my favorite authors. Cyberpunk, Science Fiction, and horror legend John Shirley is most famous as one of the screenwriters of The Crow. He is the author of several dozen novels and multiple award-nominated and acclaimed short story collections including the award-winning Black Butterflies and the recently reissued Really, Really, Really, Really Weird Stories. As a novelist I consider John to have masterpieces in both Science Fiction (City Come A-Walkin) and Horror (Wetbones). The last time he came on we talked about his recently released SF novel Stormland. This time we are talking about his new Science Fiction action novel Subortibal7. Developed alongside the studio Alon Entertainment who developed the TV series of The Expanse and the recent Blade Runner sequel. Suborbital7 will be on my top ten when the year is over so highly recommended. In this interview we breakdown this new fresh take on military science fiction and orbital combat that is ripped from tomorrow's headlines. We talk about John's recent projects, the real-life inspirations for Suborbital7, deep research, and writing realistic space combat. The first 45 minutes or so is spoiler-free. Then after a spoiler warning, I make John very uncomfortable talking about all of the writing process. He is serious he wants you to read it first. •You can find my books here: Amazon-https://www.amazon.com/David-Agranoff/e/B004FGT4ZW •And me here: Goodreads-http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/2988332.David_Agranoff Twitter-https://twitter.com/DAgranoffAuthor Blog-http://davidagranoff.blogspot.com/

Schow and John Shirley. It stars Brandon Lee in his final film appearance as Eric Draven, a murdered musician who is resurrected to avenge his death and that of his fiancée. The film is based on James O'Barr's comic of the same name.Production on The Crow was struck by tragedy when Lee was fatally wounded during filming. As Lee had finished most of his scenes before his death, the film was completed through script rewrites, a stunt double, and digital effects.[3] The Crow is dedicated to Lee and his fiancée, Eliza Hutton. After Lee's death, Paramount Pictures opted out of distributing the film and the rights were picked up by Miramax, who oversaw The Crow's completion. The Crow was released to positive reviews, with the Rotten Tomatoes critical consensus praising its tone, visuals, Dariusz Wolski's cinematography, the production design, and Lee's performance. It also grossed $94 million on a $23 million budget and attained a strong cult following. The film's success led to a media franchise that includes three sequels and a television series. The sequels, which mostly featured different characters and none of the original cast members, were unable to match the success of the first film.

The Crow | Brandon Lee | Ernie Hudson | Michael Wincott | Alex Proyas | [1994] The Crow is a 1994 American supernatural dark fantasy directed by Alex Proyas and written by David J. Schow and John Shirley. It stars Brandon Lee in his final film appearance as Eric Draven, a murdered musician who is resurrected to avenge the deaths of himself and his fiancee. The film is based on James O'Barr's comic of the same name. Michael Wincott, Michael Massee, Ernie Hudson, James O'Barr, Tony Todd, Laurence Mason, Bai Ling, Anna Thompson, Rochelle Davis and Sodia Shinas were the supporting cast for The Crow. Production on The Crow was struck by tragedy when Lee was fatally wounded during filming. As Lee had finished most of his scenes before his death, the film was completed through script rewrites, a stunt double, and digital effects. The Crow is dedicated to Brandon Lee and his fiancee, Eliza Hutton. After Brandon Lee's death caused Paramount Pictures to opt-out of distributing the film, the rights were picked up by Miramax, who oversaw The Crow's completion. The Crow was released to positive reviews, with the Rotten Tomatoes critical consensus praising its tone, visuals, and Brandon Lee's performance. The Crow's success led to a media franchise that includes three sequels and a television series. The sequels, which featured different protagonists and none of the original cast members, would be unable to match the success of the first film, however. The Crow was a sleeper hit at the box office, it opened at number one in the United States in 1,573 theaters with $11,774,332 and averaging $7,485 per theater. Some industry sources believed that Miramax overstated the weekend gross by as much as $1 million. The Crow ultimately grossed $50,693,129 in the United States and Canada, and $43 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $93.7 million against its budget of $23 million. It ranked at number 24 for all films released in the US in 1994, the 24th highest-grossing film worldwide for 1994, and number 10 for R-rated films released that year. Overseas in Europe, the film grossed £1,245,403 in the United Kingdom (where it was 18-rated), and sold 4,604,115 tickets in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. In South Korea, it sold 83,126 tickets in Seoul City. #TheCrow #BrandonLee #RIPBrandonLee #ErnieHudson #AlexProyas #DavidJSchow #JohnShirley #MichaelWincott #MichaelMassee #ErnieHudson #JamesOBarr #TonyTodd #LaurenceMason #BaiLing #AnnaThompson #RochelleDavis #SodiaShinas #TheCrow1994 #ParamountPictures #Miramax #CultClassic #MovieByte #MovieBytePodcast ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow Us: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/moviebytepod... Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for April 13, 2021 is: minatory • MIN-uh-tor-ee • adjective : having a menacing quality Examples: "Then the squirrel seemed to notice Vinnie; to turn a minatory black eye toward him. The eye extended out from its head an inch or two on a little silvery stalk and tilted this way and that." — John Shirley, Crawlers, 2003 "In 'Wonderland,' a retired ballerina named Orla Moreau (H.G. Wells-reference alert!) and her husband, a lifelong dilettante named Shaw, move their two young kids from Manhattan to the woods of upstate New York so he can pursue his new passion for painting. An isolated old house in December, some minatory trees in the yard—what could go wrong?" — Bill O'Driscoll, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 20 Aug. 2020 Did you know? Knowing that minatory means "threatening," can you take a guess at a related word? If you're familiar with mythology, perhaps you guessed Minotaur, the name of the bull-headed, people-eating monster of Crete. Minotaur is a good guess, but as terrifying as the monster sounds, its name isn't related to minatory. The relative we're searching for is actually menace. Minatory and menace both come from derivatives of the Latin verb minari, which means "to threaten." Minatory was borrowed directly from Late Latin minatorius. Menace came to English via Anglo-French manace, menace, which came from Latin minac-, minax, meaning "threatening."
