What's That Sound?

Stu Watts chats with Hugh Lake, who is a 28-year-old songwriter, producer and DJ who has already made a mark on the Australian music scene with an diverse mix of creative projects to his name. Lake's unorthodox journey to success follows his start as HFNR, notorious club DJ in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia; he is known for his eclectic RnB and Afrobeat influenced sets appearing alongside Sophiegrophy, Lil Spacely, Genesis Owusu, Manu Crooks, Kwame and 360. He soon moved into production, first in his bedroom and then in makeshift studio “The Cabin” built in the backyard of close collaborator and friend Kwasi, with whom he signed to urban label WVS/Onelove in early 2017 as “Kwasi x HFNR”. The HFNR era saw a slew of new wave hip hop projects that were pivotal in shaping the Australian sound. In 2020 he dropped the HFNR moniker, broadening his scope as a genre-bending songwriter and producer that infuses Hip Hop, RnB, Electronic and Pop like no one else. He would show off his tastemaking, writing and production skills on R&B artist Ceeko's debut EP ‘Where Do We Begin', and in that same year he co-wrote and produced Platinum hit “Bigger” with Stan Walker and close collaborator and fellow producer HAMLEY. They would collaborate again to mix and produce a re-imagining of the Split Enz classic “Poor Boy'' to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their seminal album “True Colours”. He then cemented his genre-hopping presence after a move to Sydney, collaborating with Phi11a, BOY SODA, Nardean and Zia Jade. He continues to expand his repertoire as Executive Producer on Lara Andallo's debut EP ‘Diamonds and Deja Vu', as well as Music Direction and Tour Management for her support of the Blxst Australian Tour and the Diamonds and Deja Vu Tour. ABOUT DYNAMIC MUSIC PARTNERS: Emmy Award-winning composers Michael McCuistion, Lolita Ritmanis and Kristopher Carter, collectively known as Dynamic Music Partners, have created hundreds of hours of music for a variety of different genres, including TV series, independent films, video games and live performance events. They have collectively earned twenty-eight Emmy Award nominations and six Annie Award nominations as composers for Marvel's Avengers Assemble, Batman: The Brave And The Bold, Justice League, Teen Titans, Batman Beyond, The Zeta Project and The New Batman Superman Adventures. Original concert works and suites of their scores have been performed in festivals and special events; from New York's Lincoln Center to The Hollywood Bowl, The Kennedy Center, The Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, Tenerife – Spain and beyond, their music has received critical acclaim. Their Prime-time Emmy Award nominated musical Batman: The Brave and the Bold: Mayhem of the Music Meister, starring Neil Patrick Harris was a historic first Batman musical to ever be composed. They began their careers composing music for Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond, for which they each received the Emmy Award in Music Direction and Composition. As orchestrators they have worked with many of Hollywood's A-list composers, including Michael Kamen, Basil Poledouris, Howard Shore, Carter Burwell, Elliot Goldenthal, Mark Snow and Shirley Walker. Kristopher, Michael and Lolita are currently working on the third season of Marvel's Avengers Assemble. They recently completed scoring a feature length documentary An Act of Love, which received the silver award at the Mill Valley Film Festival, as well as composed 4 hours of original music for radio-play audio book Rain of the Ghosts. Their feature film Marvel Superhero Adventures: Frost Fight will premiere in December 2015. They are working on 3 top secret feature length animated projects, with announcements coming in 2016. Kristopher, Michael and Lolita work both collectively and individually. Kristopher recently completed the score to the Webby-nominated short film The Birds Of Anger for G4TV and just returned from a series of lectures at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Michael recently scored the latest Griffith Observatory production Time's Up which is now playing at the observatory in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium. Lolita has been very active in the concert music arena this past season, having had works performed at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C, 2 original musicals – receiving performances in Latvia throughout 2014-2015, as well as the premiere of her symphonic work Overture to Light. This remarkable and very contemporary trio of composers and performers is an example of creative collaboration, business savvy, and artistic expression of the highest, most original level. They are currently working in today's industry and are examples and role models for aspiring film composers everywhere.

Break 1: MOG – Peggy Slappy   STORY 1: Jimmy Carter Library The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library launched a new exhibition, "Holidays at the Carter White House," unveiling never-before-seen artifacts. Among the highlights are the 1979 Hanukkah menorah (used in the first presidential Celebration of the Festival of Lights), a 500-year-old nativity painting, Christmas stockings, and various exclusive items. The exhibit features a Victorian-style Christmas tree mirroring the one at the Carter White House. Moreover, a grand 15-foot tree showcases a menorah, alongside a Kwanzaa communal cup and candles, symbolizing diverse holiday traditions. This captivating exhibition not only displays historical artifacts but also represents the inclusive spirit of holiday celebrations observed at the Carter White House, offering a unique glimpse into presidential festivities and cultural diversity.   STORY 2: CHRISTMAS CANTEEN 2023 Experience the 28th Annual Christmas Canteen 2023 at the Lawrenceville Arts Center, an Aurora Original! STORY 3: Traffic During Thanksgiving weekend, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will temporarily halt lane closures on major roads and interstates near shopping areas to ease holiday traffic. Effective from Sunday at 10 pm, Nov. 26, this proactive step aims to improve traffic flow. Similar restrictions will apply during Christmas and New Year's holidays. While construction-related closures will pause, caution is advised near work zones, as some long-term closures might persist for safety. Incident-related lane closures could occur at any time. Drivers should stay updated via 511ga.org, follow road signs, and be cautious around work zones. Heavy traffic is expected near Mall of Georgia on Nov. 26 from 2 to 7 p.m., so drivers are urged to stay alert, buckle up, plan ahead, and obey Move-Over laws for emergency vehicles' safety.   We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. I thought it would be good to use a tired old metaphor to talk about music income and maybe respond to a video this week from our friend Jesse at Sync My Music. In his newest video, Jesse talks about how important it is that you have focus on the thing you are trying to do, for him that is sync obviously. And you should watch the video because as usual, he is right for the most part as he usually is.  But he definitely has success he has built over dozens of years in the sync business. His royalty payments and let's not forget his YouTube channel and all his sync teaching income are certainly good incomes for him. But today we want to talk to those of you (who are probably ALL of you) who can't afford to put all your eggs in one basket, just “HOPPING” that it works. This video is for everyBUNNY. OK enough puns. As we do a lot on this podcast we're going to talk about many ways to make music income, and why most of us can't afford to put all our eggs in one basket. -- The Make Music Income Discord (Come join for great free conversation!): https://bit.ly/3fYDSVd The Production Music Academy: https://productionmusicacademy.com Make Music Income Website: https://www.MakeMusicIncome.com  Hello Composers! http://HelloComposers.com -- Watch the Podcast on our YouTube Channels: Make Music Income: https://www.youtube.com/MakeMusicIncome Stevie B / Production Music Academy: https://www.youtube.com/StevieBProductionMusicAcademy -- Follow Us on Instagram: Make Music Income: https://www.instagram.com/makemusicincome Steven Beddall: https://www.instagram.com/stevenbeddall/ Production Music Academy: https://www.instagram.com/productionmusicacademy -- Follow Us on TikTok: Make Music Income: https://www.tiktok.com/@makemusicincome Production Music Academy: https://www.tiktok.com/@productionmusicacademy -- --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/makemusicincome/support

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Bill Mumy, Renowned Actor, Musician, Writer and Author, “Danger, Will Robinson: The Full Mumy, A Memoir” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Bill Mumy, is an actor, musician and writer, who's been entertaining the world since he was 5 years old.   In fact, he was by far the most successful, recognizable and popular child star in the 60's and 70's.  He appeared in dozens of TV shows including “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet”, “Bewitched”, “The Twilight Zone”, “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”, “The Fugitive”, and many more.    But he's best remembered for playing “Will Robinson” on the iconic, classic TV series, “Lost in Space”, which holds a permanent place in pop culture history.   He starred in 4 Disney movies and appeared in many other films including “A Child is Waiting”, “Dear Brigitte”, “Palm Springs Weekend”,  and “Bless the Beasts & Children”.  In fact – and this is really jaw-dropping – this man worked with more legendary superstars by the time he hit puberty, than most A-list actors ever do in their entire lives.  He worked with everyone from Red Skelton, Loretta Young, Franchot Tone, June Allyson, to Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Jackie Gleason – and yes, even Brigitte Bardot.   And get this:  in a highly publicized interview, Jimmy Stewart said that our guest was the ONLY child actor he'd EVER worked with who was worth a damn.  What a compliment!   As an adult, he's appeared in many movies like “Papillon”, “Sunshine”, “The Twilight Zone movie”, “Double Trouble”, “Hard to Hold”, and the 1st “Captain America” feature film.  And on TV, he's appeared in “The Rockford Files”, “Star Trek: Deep Space 9”, “The Adventures of Superboy”, ”Matlock”, “Diagnosis Murder”, and he played “Lennier” for 5 seasons on “Babylon 5”.    And of course, EVERY “Lost in Space” fan was OVERJOYED to see him appear as “the real Dr. Smith” in the 2018 Netflix reboot of “Lost in Space”.    Throughout his life, he's been a highly accomplished and popular musician, both as a solo artist AND as a member of several bands, including “Redwood”, “The Generators”, “Action Skulls” and “Barnes & Barnes”, whose song, “Fish Heads” became a worldwide hit.  He's released over a dozen albums.  And he got an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition.    Besides being an actor and musician, he's had a prolific voiceover career, and he narrated over 50 episodes of A & E Biography.  He was even the voice of Farmers Insurance for 11 years.  He's created and written numerous comic books, screenplays and novels.  And for 4 years, he produced, wrote and hosted his own weekly radio show.    And now, FINALLY, he's released his highly anticipated memoir entitled, “Danger, Will Robinson: The Full Mumy: A Memoir”, which gives us a very insightful, honest and entertaining look not only at his multi-faceted career, but more importantly, we get to know him as a son, grandson, husband, father, grandfather and human being. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ To see more about Bill Mumy, go to:http://www.billmumy.com/https://www.facebook.com/bill.mumy/https://www.instagram.com/officialbillmumy/https://music.apple.com/ca/artist/bill-mumy/122971703 #billmumy   #harveybrownstoneinterviews

As Florizel proclaims his love for Perdita to all the guests at the Sheep Shearing festival (including his father and Camillo who are still in disguise), the Old Shepherd calls for their wedding to take place during the celebration. The unknown guest tries to persuade the young man to hold off until he's told his father, or at least discussed it with him, but Florizel refuses, saying his father must not know anything about it. Enraged, Polixenes finally removes his disguise and condemns his son, Perdita and her father, threatening to disfigure Perdita and kill the Old Shepherd if either of them come near his son again, and to disown Florizel if he even mentions her name. After his father departs, Florizel insists that he will stay with Perdita. Camillo, however, sees an opportunity to bring Polixenes and Leontes back together and persuades Florizel and Perdita to flee with him back to Sicilia. As Camillo describes the plan, they come upon Autolycus celebrating his pickpocketing success and demand that he change clothes with Florizel so that he won't be recognized on the road. Perdita agrees to go along with the plan. As Perdita prepares for the sheep shearing feast, Florizel flirts with her and vows he'll stay with her no matter what. Perdita is less carefree, fearing the repercussions that will come if the king discovers his son has been cavorting with someone beneath his station. Perdita's father, the Old Shepherd, arrives and tells his daughter to greet their guests, including two strangers (Polixenes and Camillo, disguised as farmers), who banter with her about the flowers she admires. Florizel and Perdita proclaim their love for each other as the guests applaud and dance. Polixenes (in disguise) questions the Old Shepherd about the young man who's wooing his daughter as two shepherdesses, Mopsa and Dorcas, squabble over the affections of the Shepherd's son. A servant rushes in to announce the arrival of a peddler (Autolycus), who enters with a song. He wins over the crowd with his music and exotic wares as he secretly conspires to rob everyone at the party. The servant returns to announce the arrival of a group of acrobats she calls “hairy goat men”, who enter with a cacophony of shouts and drums.
