Foster Parenting - My talk with SAFY Since our founding in Lima, Ohio in 1984, their work has rested on a single, radical idea – children belong in families. Every child and family deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. They are an extraordinary team of 500 employees in seven states including Alabama, Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, Nevada, Ohio and South Carolina who provide safety and healing so families and children can build resilience and thrive. Ariel Dew has worked within adolescents for approximately 10 years. Currently working as a Treatment Director at Specialized Alternatives for Families in Louisville, Kentucky and managing a Private Practice, Ariel utilizes experiences from treating marginalized groups impacted by trauma in her everyday practice. As a graduate of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, she earned her masters degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology with a trauma concentration and currently serves as Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Supervisor. Her background encompasses servicing communities in Louisville, KY and Chicago, IL with the Resilient Families Project, Youth Conservation Corps, Youth Outreach Services, and SAFY of Kentucky.

On October 10, 2017 Brittany & Paul Safy were two, excited, first time parents eager to meet their daughter Hazel, but at 34 weeks there was no heartbeat. Brittany shares her detailed experience giving birth to her daughter and leaving the hospital without her baby. From this experience The Safy's created The Hazel Project, a blanket donation which they deliver every year to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston Massachusetts. These blankets go to the babies stillborn and are something the parents take home with them, Brittany still sleeps with Hazel's to this day.
