In this episode, we’re taking a bit of a two pronged approach to the song we’re looking at.  First up, we have our main interview, which is with the musician Sammy Brue. Sammy is a musician based in Ogden, Utah, in the United States. Sammy released his first album at the age of just 16, and now at only 18 he’s just put out his second record, Crash Test Kid. He’s also quite new as an Elliott Smith fan, having only recently delved a bit deeper into Elliott’s catalogue on a recent tour to Germany. And in this interview, he talks to Elizabeth Withstandley about how he’s enjoying discovering Elliott’s music and why it resonates with him so much. Sammy Brue has managed to pen another belter with Crash Test Kid and we've got a track on the show. Turn it up, it's no acoustic meander. The red/yellow splatter vinyl signed by the man himself is on the way to Record Box HQ. They're all gone now but you've still got time to grab the black vinyl release. Also coming from the US this week is Reigning Sounds' classic LP Home For Orphans. Again, we think you've missed the gorgeous blue vinyl release but you can still grab a black vinyl copy from Goner Records in Memphis. "That Jamie" returns this week with his now hotly anticipated Track Of The Month - he's plundering the wealth of French Pop tracks this month. Richard runs this track by a real life proper Frenchman! What then transpires leaves Jamie with his tail between his legs. Poor Jamie. However, Jamie returns next week as we close off Season I in style. And there is a Spoiler Alert - next week Jamie delivers two absolute bangers. Romero bring us this week's bookend slot in fine post-punk style. It's Tobin's bookend and the suggestion that there is a possible point-scoring scenario sends him into something of a spin. The ever-competitive Tobin showing that he constantly lives by his own catchphrase "if there's a chance to win, I'm in!"

In 1956 five high school kids who went into Sun Studio, two days after the million dollar quartet session, to record their original song Steady Girl.  The 14 year old drummer, Joe Bauer, later became the drummer for the Youngbloods. The remarkable thing about Fingers Like Saturn is the cast of musicians in the group.  Mike McCarthy, a well known Memphis filmmaker, has written all the songs on this LP. Mike grew up in rural northeast Mississippi in a town close to Tupelo and the songs reflect that heritage. Satnin is about Elvis' mother Gladys and his stillborn twin.  Satnin is a Presley family term of endearment. It is what Elvis called Priscilla. The term is also used for others such as Gladys (and in the song Jesse). Cori Dials Mattice, the vocalist, starred in McCarthy's film, Cigarette Girl.  Steve Selvidge, the drummer, has become one of the most highly regarded Memphis guitar players (Hold Steady). Jonathan Kirkscey, cello, recently put together the soundtrack for the documentary about Mr. Rogers. Memphis Flyer article: October 25th 2018 Why would two doctors want to start a record label?Chris McCoy Ask Dennis Black and Robert Wyatt of Black & Wyatt Records, and they'll tell you it's because they love Memphis music.  Black is a pediatric gastroenterologist, and Wyatt is a pediatric nephrologist. They met through their work at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and bonded over their love of music, particularly Memphis rock-and-roll.  Wyatt says even though he's lived and practiced medicine in Memphis since the 1980s, for many years he was unaware of the city's fertile underground music scene. "When I had a division to run, a research lab, and a family to raise, I missed out.
