Heart Attack Grill has closed in downtown Las Vegas after 15 years, and its goodbye statement took a flamethrower to modern Vegas. Shawn and Mark talk about whether the restaurant had a real point about Vegas pricing out the middle class, or whether the whole thing was one last over-the-top bit from a place built on excess. They also cover Travis Pastrana riding through Boulder Station, the Caesars/Omnia jump debate, Plaza's Wiseguy Getaway package, Commonwealth's redesign, Gaudi Bar returning at Sunset Station, EDC bottle service prices and Sphere Abu Dhabi. In this episode of Home in Progress, Dan Hansen tackles three practical home topics that can quietly make or break your projects.First: Caulking before painting.Fresh paint exposes every gap your house has developed over time. Dan explains exactly where to caulk (baseboards, trim-to-wall joints, crown molding lines, built-ins, chair rail edges) — and where not to caulk (nail holes, drywall cracks, miter joints, floating cabinet panels). Using the wrong product in the wrong place can cause failure later. He also shares a tip on faster paint-ready caulks for projects on a tight timeline.Next: Laundry room flow upgrades.Dan continues his laundry efficiency series by focusing on two key zones: the processing zone (wash/dry) and the folding zone. He explains why vertical storage prevents bottlenecks, why detergents should usually stay in their original containers, and how to create a folding station that doesn't interfere with servicing your machines. Smart layout beats pretty décor every time. Finally: Choosing paint colors for someone who is colorblind.Dan clears up myths about colorblindness (it's rarely black-and-white vision) and explains how value, contrast, texture, and lighting matter more than hue. He offers practical design strategies and real-world examples to help homeowners make confident color decisions that work for everyone in the house.Resources Mentioned:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNnCafjjgBwEpisode Timeline:00:00 Welcome + What's Coming Up (Colorblind Paint Picks & Laundry Room Upgrades)01:13 Why Caulking Matters Before You Paint02:33 Where to Caulk: Baseboards, Casings, Crown & Built-Ins04:22 Where NOT to Caulk: Nail Holes, Miters & Drywall Cracks06:21 Cabinet Door Trap: Floating Panels vs MDF (When Caulk Fails)07:39 Quick Sponsor Tip: Fast-Paint Caulk Deal (Tower Sealants Accelerator)08:19 Laundry Rooms Part 2: Processing Zone & Workflow Setup10:17 Use Vertical Space: Shelves, Hooks, Pegboard Above Machines11:45 Detergent Storage Reality Check: Don't Decant (Safety, Instructions, Effectiveness)16:21 If You Must Decant: Do It Safely + Extra Storage Hacks (Doors, Carts, Tension Rods)19:18 Laundry Room Flow: Clear Counters & Create a Folding Zone21:59 Why Folding Elsewhere Breaks the System (Dining Table, Living Room, Dogs)24:49 DIY Folding Stations: Countertops for Front-Loaders & Hinged Options for Top-Loaders26:50 Don't Build It In: Modular Counters, Machine Access & Water Hookups27:48 Air-Dry Solutions: Racks, Retractable Lines & Space-Saving Ideas29:23 Sponsor Break + Listener Question: Choosing Paint Colors for Colorblindness30:29 Colorblindness 101: Myths, Types, and How Common It Really Is34:37 Designing for Color Vision Deficiency: Value, Contrast, Texture, Lighting38:13 Real-World Example + Wrap-Up: Smarter Color Choices and Final Sign-Off

Send us a textYour laundry room might be small — but it quietly organizes your entire week.In this episode of Your Home by Design, Nico breaks down laundry room design from a designer's systems-first, neuroaesthetic perspective. This isn't about baskets, labels, or Pinterest perfection. It's about why this room becomes one of the most frustrating spaces in the home — and how thoughtful layout, clear systems, and intentional design can dramatically reduce mental load. The laundry room is a working system. When it's unclear, cluttered, or overloaded, it creates friction, unfinished cycles, and background stress. When it's designed properly, it becomes quiet, efficient, and supportive — without you even noticing. This episode will help you rethink your laundry room as a behavior-shaping space, not a leftover utility room.KEY TAKEAWAYSWhy the laundry room becomes a catch-all — and how to stop itHow visual clutter creates cognitive load (even when you don't notice it)Why systems must come before storage or cabinetryHow layout decisions quietly shape daily behaviorWhen stacked appliances, tall cabinetry, or pocket doors actually make senseThe difference between a thoughtful DIY refresh and a full design overhaulHow good laundry room design reduces mental fatigue and unfinished cyclesIf your laundry room constantly feels chaotic, this episode will help you see why — and what to do differently.

Is your home quietly working against your health? In this powerful and practical episode, we sit down with Stephen Ezell, founder of Truly Free Home, to talk about the hidden toxins lurking in everyday household products—especially in the laundry room. We've all been told that if something smells clean, it is clean. But Stephen helps us pull back the curtain on “clean smells,” dryer sheets, dishwashers, detergents, and so-called green products that may actually be disrupting hormones, irritating skin, and impacting long-term health—especially for our kids. This is not a fear-based conversation. It's a hope-filled, doable discussion for real life. We talk about how to take meaningful steps toward a healthier home without becoming extreme, overwhelmed, or broke. In this episode, we cover:• Why the laundry room may be the most toxic room in your house• How fragrance loopholes and “blue goo” fool well-meaning families• What actually matters most when you're prioritizing non-toxic living• Simple, budget-friendly swaps that make the biggest difference• How voting with our dollars can shift entire markets toward health Whether you're just starting to question what's under your sink or you've already made some clean swaps, this episode will meet you where you are and help you take your next best step with clarity and confidence.

Whether you call it the Blue Water Area, Michigan's Thumbcoast, or just the Port Huron area, this part of Michigan is both amazingly blue-ti-ful, and chock full of fun things to do. We had a great time recording this episode of Behind the Mitten, as we were lucky enough to get to set up right below the beauitul Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron. Let's discover the blue together! We'll start off the show with an overview of the area from our friends at the Blue Water Visitors Bureau. Joining us are Michael Hensley, President and CEO of the Blue Water Area CVB, and Katie Stepp, a Port Huron secret beach expert, as well as the Vice President of Marketing for BWA. We'll learn about some of the great historical connections to Port Huron, as well as about the importance of the river and lakes in this area, including the mighty St. Clair River, which flowed on by as we recorded.Katie and Michael took us out on the town for a great evening, and you'll get to hear all about our experience in the entertainment district downtown. We were lucky to get to stay right along the Black River at City Flats Hotel, an excellent choice for exploring, as well as shopping, wine tasting, and watching the drawbridge open for boats. From here, you are just steps away from all the action. The Wrigley Center located right downtown offers up a true entertainment complex, and something all new for Port Huron. Find multiple bars, an arcade, restaurants, retail shopping, and even a fowling arena here. We talk to Darren Lee, the energetic general manager of this hot spot, and maybe even go to a "secret" speakeasy with him, a very cool place called The Laundry Room. His brand new restaurant, Port Steak and Seafood, opens on the second floor of the Wrigley Center on August 22.During your visit to Port Huron, you can "wet your whistle"and take a self guided tour around the thumb and experience the diverse beverage scene they have here, including five easy stops right in Port Huron. Kate shares how you can win a free hotel night by completing this fun challenge, plus other insider visitor tips. We'll finish off the show, and our night in Port Huron experiencing Quay Street from a secret speak easy located inside an ax-throwing bar. Yes, in downtown Port Huron! Head to Bootlegger's Ax Company for some good old fashioned ax slinging, cold drinks, and a fun menu. Or if you'd like inventive cocktails with a very urban feel, ask where to find Mooncursers, a fun little speakeasy which has a very cool view of the river and Port Huron visitors. We'll talk with owner Gene Harrison who is something of a rennaissance man, and definitely someone who is invested in and loves Port Huron. After our visit, we can understand why.Plan your visit to Port Huron and Michigan's Thumbcoast at BlueWater.org.
We love our mid-century houses for many reasons - their enduring design, clean lines and great indoor/outdoor connections. But MANY mid-century homes, both modest and high end, share one glaring omission. They lack of a proper mudroom. This design flaw often vexes my clients and students. Our families and pets come with a whole lot more "stuff" than they did in the 50s and 60s! Let's explore how Mid Mod Midwest has solved the "garage to house” transition problem to offer options for a functional entry that truly works. In Today's Episode You'll Hear:Which entry spot is always the WORST…and is super common in mid-century ranch homes. How to tuck the storage you need into a modest footprint. When you might want more than one mini-mudroom. Get the full show notes with all the trimmings at https://www.midmod-midwest.com/2202Want us to create your mid-century master plan? Israel has become known internationally as the ‘start-up nation' – one of the most successful international hi-tech hubs. The Ayalon Institute – just outside of Rehovot – may have possessed the world's only start-up laundry – an underground factory designed to produce the crucial bullets needed by the pre-state and early Israel to fight the 1948 War of Independence. How do you keep such an operation a secret? How did the Ayalon Institute reflect something about the ethos of pre-state Israel? And does some of that same ethos survive today? SHOW NOTES: In this show, learn how to plan a well-designed laundry room remodel, get tips for turning your bedroom into a luxury suite, and check for hidden winter storm damage that could cost you big later. Whether you're fixing up now or gathering ideas for the future, we've got you covered with answers to all your home improvement questions! - Laundry Room: Get spin-cycle savvy with tips for designing an organized laundry room. - Bedroom Design: We've got suite ideas for remodeling your bedroom to add value and luxury. - Storm Damage: The impact of winter storms isn't always obvious, but here's where to look for visible and hidden damage. Q & A: - Ventilation: When should Lisa run her bathroom vent fan? We recommend installing a humidistat timer, but she should consult an HVAC technician to check her home's air exchange. - Moisture: The cement base of Tom's screened-in porch gets a layer of water, but no leak. He must manage the exterior moisture that's being drawn up through the concrete. - Heated Tile Floor: June loves heated flooring, but the ceramic tile has cracks. We recommend a very effective system with a membrane that goes under the floor. - Insulation: What is the difference between closed cell and open cell spray foam insulation? John learns the pros and cons of each and how to use them. - Fireplace Noise: Whistling and howling noises are coming from the gas fireplace. Sharon should check if the roof venting was properly installed. - Electrical Switch: A three-way light circuit has stopped working. It could be a failure at any point, not in the fixture itself, and Russ should hire an electrician. - Countertops: Iris is considering upgrading her kitchen countertops. We agree that quartz is a good choice for its looks, durability, stain resistance, and easier care. - Wall Insulation: Brad learns why he can't go wrong by installing insulation on the back of a knee wall in the upstairs bedroom. - Deck Stain: Paula wants to stain and seal a pine wood deck to match her house trim. An all-in-one solid color stain will give her lots of choices. ASK A QUESTION: Need help with your own home improvement or décor question? We'd love to help! Send me a one-way text about this episode! I'll give you a shout out or answer your question on a future episode.Last week, I gave you some ideas for celebrating Valentine's day and expressing your love through simple acts of homemaking like cooking your family's favorite food, leaving loving notes around the house, playing music tied to special memories and even some ways to ignite the flame of marriage. Today, I'd like to explore how we can express our love for those in our home through a homemaking task we all love to hate; laundry. We'll talk about transforming laundry from drudgery into delightful opportunity of love by checking your expectations, taking the time to teach, and letting go of some control through delegation. I also have some helpful laundry resources for you. The laundry room is where we turn dirty clothes into clean clothes. The same is true in the church. It's a safe family where we don't hide our hurts, habits, and hang ups, rather we surrender them to the transformational power of Jesus.
Laundry, again. Halfway through a 6 week blitz on the road, I'm reflecting on where we're at with the season, how Grandfather's passing has impacted the past few months, and of course, the nitty gritty logistics of living on the road and schlepping along. ******* TheWholeStory is a podcast about my family's journey to follow Ellis's singular passion for racing during a global pandemic. Shamelessly authentic and always with a sense of humor, I hope this story gives you a look behind the sheen of social media-- the shiny posts about racing, travel, and of course, eating, and sheds light on what it's really like to be a family taking risks and living life on the road. How does our laundry room explode? And is there any way we can have it looking like a magazine? Let's discuss. Now, you may not have a laundry room. Yours may be in the basement, so yours may not work the way my laundry room does. As I'm talking about this, it may be a different space in your house. It may be a spare bedroom. It may be a home office. Or it may be the dining room table. I'm going to go through two more spaces in the next two weeks. So if you're like, “I have bomb explosions in every room of my house,” there are different kinds of explosions. So we're gonna talk about the different kinds. Before the Sunday Basket®, everything I'm going to tell you about would be in the laundry room plus my bills, mail, my actionables. So when I got to Sunday, I would be like “what do I have going on?” “Where are my things?” No one is ONLY doing laundry in their laundry room. Period. No one is. So I'm going to encourage you to go on over to organize365.com and sign up for the Free Week of The Productive Home Solution®, which is the laundry room. Things that might end up in here are the following: things that you need for a project, but won't fit in your Sunday Basket®. Things that are in process that we don't want to forget. Items for the next holiday, for summer vacation, projects that are ongoing that get delayed, backpacks at the end of the school year (that don't get emptied out until weeks before the next school year!). Things that may be incoming or outgoing into the house - birthday gifts that need to be wrapped, things that need to be returned, donated, or you're not quite sure what to do with it yet. The Free Week of The Productive Home Solution® is a great introduction to it, because the way I organize a room is not the way people normally would. Go ahead and clean out your laundry room, look at it with different eyes. Next week, we're going to talk about my garage - which may be your storage area, your den, your porch, your family room, but we all have this space. We'll check that out next week. This week on Dopey Tuesday! Amy Dresner is Back!!!! And fills us in on her experiences with loss, medical problems, and mental health challenges while maintaining her recovery. She shares her journey with epilepsy, including the triggers and treatments she has encountered. Amy also opens up about her struggles with depression and suicidal ideation, emphasizing the importance of seeking professional help and using coping skills! Despite the hardships she has faced, Amy remains committed to her recovery and offers support to others who may be going through similar challenges. In this part of the conversation, Amy and David discuss their experiences with sober dating and the benefits of dating someone in recovery. https://loosiddating.onelink.me/CAgW/ftg17xhz Dopey Podcast is the world's greatest podcast on drugs, addiction and dumb shit. Chris and I were two IV heroin addicts who loved to talk about all the coke we smoked, snorted and shot, all the pills we ate, smoked, all the weed we smoked and ate, all the booze we consumed and all the consequences we suffered. After making the show for 2 and a half years, Chris tragically relapsed and died from a fentanyl overdose. Dopey continued on, at first to mourn the horrible loss of Chris, but then to continue our mission - which was at its core, to keep addicts and alcoholics company. Whether to laugh at our time in rehab, or cry at the worst missteps we made, Dopey tells the truth about drugs, addiction and recovery. We continually mine the universe for stories rife with debauchery and highlight serious drug taking and alcoholism. We also examine different paths toward addiction recovery. We shine a light on harm reduction and medication assisted treatment. We talk with celebrities and nobodies and stockpile stories to be the greatest one stop shop podcast on all things drugs, addiction, recovery and comedy pathfinding the route to the heart of the opioid epidemic.
Nursing student Brittany Ligdis, 30, hid in her laundry room with her four-year-old son on February 16 as her ex-boyfriend broke into her apartment, according to the Pinole Police Department. Police said Jeffrey Kendall shot Ligdis in the head in front of their son and then fled. California state troopers caught Kendall later that evening.
