It's my pleasure to highlight one of my dearest client's of the Nurse Rx Community. Jess and I have been working together for over 18 months and are truly kindred souls. Jess is an RN in Maine USA and after dabbling in a few different areas of health and nursing, including being a member of her hospitals infectious diseases team, she found her true passion in labor and delivery. She beautifully relates the experience of birth to so many transcendent experiences of life and her heart just sings when she talks about it. In 2022 she made the brave decision to walk away from her job instead of waiting to be fired for her personal choices regarding the vaccine mandates in her state.  Heartbroken and wary from the exhaustion she was experiencing beforehand giving selflessly and tirelessly to her job, her patients, and her colleagues she witnessed so much unfold that left her morally and ethically at a crossroads, as many others have as well.Sandra's Key TakeawaysLife is a series of birth and death cycles that hold many magical moments, and incredible gifts if we are open to see them and receive them. The fall of the corporate health care system and the unveiling of the mistreatment and abuse of its workers. The hero identity and the difficulty of caring for ourselves when so much is on the line.Trusting that we will land when the world seems to be flipped upside down and you're being thrown into square one of life. About Sandra Payne:Sandra Payne is an ex- Registered Nurse and Master Certified Holistic Trauma Informed Coach and the owner of Sandra Payne Wellness and founder of the exclusive Nurse Rx Coaching Program. After 13 years working within the traditional health care system and experiencing first hand the challenges that come with nursing, Sandra has a keen understanding of the heavy unrealistic expectations in nursing, the moral distress, and the stigma that keeps many nurse's struggles with depression, anxiety, and trauma, hidden in silence. Recently terminated RN Jasper Pare joins me for a closeup look at what led him to choose to lose his job as a nurse. He shares vulnerably with us the impact this has all had on his life, both professionally and personally. What's incredible to witness, though, is his resilient mindset of growth and opportunity. Instead of allowing this devastating betrayal to lead him into a pit of despair, he has chosen to rise above it and see all the gifts that revealed themselves to him. There are so many layers to the decisions of our nursing profession to allow the very code of ethics and morality and our advocacy for patient rights in health care to be eroded with the medical mandates we have seen. And this is just one of the many stories of institutional betrayal so similar to his. How do we move forward from this erosion of trust and integrity in our system? How do we heal as individuals and as a collective culture of health care professionals? These are the questions of importance. Sandra's Takeaways:Are male nurses experiencing the same high level of heavy expectations as their women colleagues?Red flags revealed and the questions so many are asking… why are alternate views and conflicting research being left out and censored?Medical mandates and the wake of devastation. Healing from institutional betrayalShifting our perspectiveLink to YouTube video Institutional Betrayal: https://youtu.be/PDXb8Jfa2uEAbout the Guest:Jasper Pare is a recently terminated Registered Nurse who joins us for a closeup look at what led him to choose to lose his job as a nurse. As nurses in today's medical workforce we need to stand up and speak out, and no longer just sit down and be quiet, hiding in the shadows and the shame of our struggles. The reality is there are unlimited options available for nurses if we can only find the way to expand our beliefs about our potential and how we should show up in this world. We push ourselves in so many ways that it will eventually and inevitably result in us hitting a brick wall. We are only intended to do so much, but the pressure and expectations are heavy and create a fear driven intensity to push ourselves to the limits. It's time that we pay attention to what our body's are telling us and seek the support we need now.If you can relate please join me and my guest Jane Van Brunt, nurse and corporate healthcare leader and the host of “The Dear Spin Sisters'' podcast and author of the “Nightingale Gene'' and the co-author of “Shut Your Mouth” for today's episode where we discuss ways to take back control of your nursing career. She is the author of The Nightingale Gene and the co-author of Shut Your Mouth. She published the Nightingale Gene in 2018 as a love letter to nurses and caregivers and was somewhat prophetic as she wrote of her fears heading into 2021, not realizing the mass exodus of nurses due to retire in the U.S. would be exacerbated by the pandemic. Jayne learned the hard way what stress and burnout can do to a body when she was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome and was paralyzed for 2 weeks. She coaches nurses to look for less stressful ways to use their degrees, running workshops to identify business opportunities that support their mission to reinvent themselves. Recent article published by SRCA. https://burnout.spinsavorsoar.comTo schedule a free consultation with Jayne: https://spinsavorsoar.com/schedule/ https://socialresponsibility.substack.com/p/meet-our-members-jayne-van-brunt?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email&utm_source=direcMEET SANDRA PAYNE:Sandra Payne is a Nurse and Master Certified Holistic Wellness Trauma Informed Coach and the owner of Sandra Payne Wellness and founder of the exclusive Nurse Rx Coaching Program. After 13 years working within the traditional health care system and experiencing first hand the challenges that come with nursing, Sandra has a keen understanding of the heavy unrealistic expectations in nursing, the moral distress, and the stigma that keeps many nurse's struggles with depression, anxiety, and trauma hidden in silence. Out of this intimate understanding was born the Nurse Rx Program through which women nurses learn and practice a host of skills and exercises to manage stress, process emotions, and heal trauma within a safe group collective of other nurses. Join the community of support - Facebook group Surviving Nursing https://www.facebook.com/groups/638818697054847 Connect with Sandra Payne and download a copy of the Surviving Nursing live workshop here: https://www.saSupport the show

They are our colleagues, our mothers, our daughters, our friends, and it is such an honor to be able to hold space for them and for their stories here on this podcast. So who am I? My name is Sandra Payne and I am a certified holistic master coach with the International Association of wellness professionals. I nursed as a registered nurse for 15 years from which I have experienced the long list of psychological, emotional, traumatic, moral distress and injury that so many nurses are still experiencing today. It is my hope that through this podcast nurses will see and understand that they are not alone and definitely not stuck. My guest is Michelle Howard! A Registered Nurse from British Columbia Canada who has bravely worked the emergency rooms and trauma centers of BC's largest hospitals.  Watching two of her three daughters entering the nursing workforce has lit a spark in her to be the mentor that so many nurses need in their early careers to create an environment that supports them and protects them from the bullying that so commonly takes place in our health care system.  Michelle is inspiring, self aware, and honest as she takes us through her own journey of what I can only take away as hope in this career. Hope  that balance and health is indeed a real possibility for all of us. Critical to her ability to thrive in this exhausting and demanding career has been her capacity to adapt her work life to fit her lifestyle and her needs vs the other way around and is clear on the importance of knowing our values and setting boundaries for ourselves. One of the most valuable resources Michelle notes for herself has been the connection and group support she found through her church group and the program she has found so much healing and growth through mirrors that which is provided through the Nurse Rx Program. If you'd like to learn more about Sandra Payne Wellness and the Nurse Rx Program you can go to https://wellness360coach.com/sandra-payne/ or follow Sandra Payne on FB https://www.facebook.com/sandrapaynewellness/or IG.If you'd like to join our private FB support group Surviving Nursing please do https://www.facebook.com/groups/638818697054847/If you would like to be a guest on the End the Silence Podcast to share your story and offer hope and inspiration to our colleagues,  I welcome you to contact me at sandra.payne.wellness@gmail.com Together we are stronger

Join us for this revealing conversation as Sandra Payne and I discuss our healthcare workers' well-being, especially our nurses. Sandra Payne is a Registered Nurse and the owner of Sandra Payne Holistic Wellness Coaching. She is also the founder of the Nurse Rx Coaching Program. To overcome her own struggle with burnout, depression, and anxiety, Sandra used a truly holistic healing approach that she refers to as her “Journey through the Canyon of Hope." She felt a passionate fire to guide other women on their own canyon journeys through coaching and healing, so she created the Nurse RX Program in which nurses learn and practice a host of skills and exercises to manage their own mental and emotional exhaustion through the combination of individual coaching and a powerful sisterhood of connection & support. Show Notes: * Before COVID, Sandra recognized that our essential workers, especially our nurses, are part of an unsustainable system that almost guarantees their burnout. * Sandra has endured the struggle of anxiety and depression that's so common with nurses. * The root causes of her anxiety and depression stem from undue pressure on herself to continue being of service when she was already at max capacity. * Burnout and the overwhelming demands of women are leading us down a path to mental and emotional overwhelm. * Sandra takes nurses through different stages of awareness and healing through what she calls “The Canyon of Hope.” * Burnout is incredibly common for our essential workers and nurses. Ironically, a large percentage of nurses end up in a state of illness or chronic fatigue due to the way the medical and health care system operates. * Sandra catalogs the risk of not addressing the signs and symptoms of burnout. * What's the risk to us if we don't address our signs and symptoms early? * Sandra encourages women to find a support system or coaching circle of women to receive support and help.

In this episode of Her Process, I'm chatting with writer and director, Sandra Payne. Sandra began her writing career working on Wishbone and Barney and Friends...yes, that Barney. She has written short films, award winning web series, and commercials. Some fun facts about Sandra: When she lived in Indonesia, her family rescued a hornbill and he used to follow them around camp, honking for them. He was given to the Jakarta zoo when her parents left the country to move back to the United States. She is an Alaskan State Fair champion apple pie baker. When she was eleven, she won a purple ribbon! Sandra has been to six of the seven continents. She's got her eye on Antarctica to round out her collection. She's jumped out of an airplane. Twice. And, she is a tea aficionado. She's attended the World Tea Expo. Twice. During our chat, we talk about Sandra's journey back to writing after losing confidence in her ability at a pretty pivotal age. We talk a bit about how, and why she entered into the world of directing. She shares what motivated her to finally write that novel. And, let me tell you, after hearing her talk about this, you're going to feel motivated to do that thing that you've been putting off, or waiting for the perfect time to start working on. So, pour yourself a cup of tea (or coffee). Here is Sandra Payne. For show notes and photos, please visit herprocess.com.
