In this episode of Christ the Center, we engage in a thoughtful and rigorous discussion of Keith Mathison's book, Toward a Reformed Apologetics: A Critique of the Thought of Cornelius Van Til. Carlton Wynne, Lane Tipton, and Camden Bucey critically examine Mathison's interpretation of Van Til, particularly in relation to idealism, epistemology, and the noetic effects of sin. Throughout this episode, we explore key themes, including: The Alleged Influence of Idealism: Did Van Til borrow philosophical categories from absolute idealism, or did he consistently maintain a Reformed, biblically grounded epistemology? The Nature of Human Knowledge: Did Van Til argue that humans must know everything in order to know anything? Or is this a misreading of his critique of unbelieving thought? The Ethical Antithesis in Epistemology: How does covenant theology shape Van Til's apologetic system, and why is the ethical nature of knowledge crucial for understanding his method? The Role of Coherence and Correspondence in Van Til's Thought: Did Van Til adopt an idealist coherence theory of truth, or did he reject both coherence and correspondence theories as traditionally conceived? We also discuss broader implications for Reformed apologetics, the challenges of properly interpreting Van Til, and why these theological debates matter for defending the Christian faith today. While critiquing Mathison's arguments, we affirm the importance of engaging in these discussions with charity and precision. Join us as we work through these foundational issues and lay the groundwork for future conversations on Mathison's book and Van Til's apologetic legacy.

While promoting his new holiday movie at Christmas Con, Mathison made comments about the potential for Drew and Willow to become a 'super couple'. This has been met with mixed reactions from the show's audience, with many expressing their dislike for the pairing on the ABC soap opera. GH fans see Mathison's comparison of the Drew and Willow relationship to the infamous Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) and Laura Spencer (Genie Francis) pairing from the show's history has further fueled the controversy. The duo, known for their undeniable chemistry and clandestine encounters, are treading the waters of a potential political marriage, much to the chagrin of their ex-partners, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright).  The plot thickens on GH as Drew, an ex-seal turned businessman, considering a congressional run, could benefit from Nina's affluent background and connections. This unlikely union could pave the way for a glamorous political spectacle that would irk many, notably Carly and Sonny. With Drew's potential run for congress, this could also explain Mathison's intermittent absence from the soap due to his multi-picture deal with Great American Media.  The development of their relationship, from enemies to potential lovers, adds an interesting dynamic to the show. Wegovy mimics a hormone the gut releases, reducing appetite and slowing digestion to delay hunger's return. Research is also underway into other potential health benefits. In this podcast, Baillie Gifford investment manager Ross Mathison discusses its maker, the Danish pharmaceuticals manufacturer Novo Nordisk, which became Europe's most valuable company in 2023. Background:Ross Mathison is an investment manager in our Global Income Growth Team, co-manager of our Global Income Growth Fund and deputy manager of the Scottish American Investment Company (SAINTS). In this episode of Short Briefings on Long Term Thinking, he discusses how medicines that mimic the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) hormone could help tackle the growing problem of weight gain. Forecasts suggest that by 2035, more than half the world's population will either be overweight or obese. That's likely to lead to more people suffering associated diseases, putting health budgets under further strain. Novo Nordisk initially researched GLP-1s as a diabetes treatment. The company is the world's biggest insulin producer, but it's the release of its weight-loss drug Wegovy that's transformed its growth prospects. News that medical trials suggest that the therapy could also reduce the likelihood of heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular threats among some patients has driven further investor interest. Mathison explains that there could be further health benefits beyond this, how even more effective treatments could follow and why Novo Nordisk's manufacturing edge and connection to the world's biggest charitable foundation bode well for its future. Resources:New England Journal of Medicine: Semaglutide trialNovo Nordisk cardiovascular trial press releaseNovo Nordisk kidney trial press releaseNovo Nordisk FoundationWegovyWorld Health Organization obesity factsheetHitting Against the Spin Timecodes:00:00    Introduction1:40      What are GLP-1s?4:00      Scientific breakthrough5:05      Obesity: a disease, not a choice6:45      Novo Nordisk's drug, Wegovy08:10    Prescription costs

With Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) in Amsterdam sorting out the aftermath of Luke Spencer's (Anthony Geary) murder by Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy), the upcoming episodes are hinting at a heartbreaking end for Bobbie Spencer.  The show's handling of legacy characters, as well as the respect shown towards the actors they represent, suggests that Bobbie's exit will be a graceful and fitting tribute to Zeman's decades-long contribution to the ABC soap opera.  Meanwhile, Drew Cain's future on the show is uncertain given Mathison's recent significant deal with Great American Media. His sudden departure to Australia for a business deal and the looming threat of Mr. Brennan (Charles Mesure), the new head of both the WSB and Pikemen, have left fans wondering if history will repeat itself, mirroring Drew's previous disappearance. We catch up this week with Atlanta-based designer Mallory Mathison, who blends the classical richness of the past with endless design possibilities for today. Mallory's work has been featured in Southern Homes, Atlanta Homes, and most recently in the 2022 Flower Magazine Show House here in Atlanta. We talked with Mallory about how much we loved her room, and the steps she took to create a glowy, gilded garden room. Mallory shares what she loves about showrooms, and shares a few key pieces of wisdom to make your space classic and comfortable, and always ready for the perfect party. What You'll Hear on This Episode: Mallory's process of creating a character-driven showroom. How Mallory chose warm glittery glowy lighting and the perfect pink in her Show House room. How did Mallory hang her mirror in the show house on top of the beautiful fabric over a daybed? How do we make our bars look amazing and what can we do to be always party ready? The importance of staying on the good side of a contractor. Wicker is like comfort food for the home. How to use brackets in different ways. Where Mallory starts with color on a project. Tips for framing and creating a beautiful eye-catching gallery wall. Mentioned in This Episode: Ballard Designs Mallory Mathison: Website | IG Decorating Dilemma First off, what a cute kitchen! Mallory suggests really leaning into the historic nature of your home, instead of trying to make it “modern” and making it something that it's not. First, we can make it feel cleaner and brighter, and definitely more stylish. For the color, Mallory suggests a very light soft celery green or green that has a bit more of a yellow base than a blue base. That's going to complement the purple tones much better than something that has a blue base. Check out Benjamin Moore's “Stolen Moments 477”. You can also add crown molding that's appropriate to the house in the kitchen. On the walls, Mallory suggests an eggshell so you have reflectivity. In your little charming breakfast nook, we think you should use the Margo Hanging Shade Light Fixture and for flooring, check out American Restoration Tile. If you are needing to prioritize things, first do the lighting and then paint the cabinets. Thanks for writing in, and keep us posted!
