The Trump administration's approach to governance presents an opening for a new federalism to take hold. States may now be incentivized to aggressively take charge of education; ambitiously compete for businesses planting themselves in the U.S. due to tariffs; and cut oppressive regulatory red tape. Rounding out the Cincinnatus Series, Ryan Williams sits down with Scott Yenor, Jeffrey Anderson, and Jim Blew to discuss strategies and tools available to policymakers to facilitate economic development, capitalize on the shrinking administrative state, and more!

Following the social revolutions of decades past, liberal sex education reforms, and the devaluation of marriage, Conservatives can no longer ignore the social aspects of family life—paramount to preserving and promoting the traditional household—and must recognize the use of laws to heal our culture. Host Ryan Williams is joined by Scott Yenor, Kathleen O'Toole, and Chris Bullivant to discuss how states may empower parents to raise and school their children, boost fertility and attract young families, and close the class divide in marriage and family formation outcomes.

Time to tighten the belt. As federal funding scrutiny increases—and with an enrollment cliff fast approaching—state legislators, not internal experts, must take action to put universities under the microscope and ensure faculty hours equate to student academic mastery, promoting attendance. Host and Claremont Institute president Ryan Williams sits down with returning guest Scott Yenor and is joined by Frederick Hess and Beth Akers of the American Enterprise Institute to continue the discussion of how state legislatures may reshape universities, from performance funding to school choice.
Kicking off the Cincinnatus Series, a set of six weekly Roundtable special episodes, Claremont Institute president Ryan Williams is joined by Inez Stepman, Scott Yenor, and David Azerrad to discuss leftist agendas within universities, and the opportunity for state legislatures to pull the reins and reverse course. Among the levers for dismantling the radical ideological infrastructures are the creation of state-controlled accreditation agencies, funding restrictions, and a renewed focus on student outcomes. The guests discuss these topics, potential pitfalls, and more!
1 - Abington Township Police Chief Pat Molloy joins us today. How does law enforcement feel about tinted windows? With the Tren de Aragua gang members started to be rounded up, can we get safety back to our communities and fentanyl out of the country? In this conversation with Scott Yenor, Senior Director of State Coalitions at the Claremont Institute, we discuss what happened when just last year, the mob came for Scott, attempting to cancel him, after a talk he gave on the importance of the family. We explore an article he wrote on this attempted cancellation made against him in First Things as well as the topic of patriarchy. We also dive into a report he made on wokeness on Texas A&M through top down diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. He lives in Meridian, Idaho with his wife, Amy, and his five children. A church of “cultural engagement,” emphasizing niceness at the expense of doctrine, inculcates the innocence of doves without the wisdom of serpents. Supporting controversial witness is a necessity in an orthodox Christian church. The gospel is a sword; so is the law. While my cancellation was afoot, I received many handwritten notes of encouragement from my fellow parishioners. Other parishioners were solicitous for my family and my mental state when I encountered them at worship. Just as my fellow board members at Ambrose stood firm in our mission, so did my church. I am grateful.Though churches should not teach their parishioners to run full-steam into machine-gun nests, the beauty of the martyrs is a story as old as Christendom. St. Ambrose's courage to refuse Communion to Theodosius over the Massacre of Thessalonica was possible only because he feared God more than he feared man. As did St. Stephen in the face of stoning; as did Justin Martyr, beheaded for witnessing to Christ among the Romans; as did so many others. Such examples of faithfulness are crucial. Cancellation is not martyrdom, of course, but it is in the odor of it. And churches that recognize its nobility are much more likely to be rallying points for all that is central to Christian faith.”How Texas A&M Went Woke - https://americanmind.org/salvo/how-texas-am-went-woke/Claremont Investigation - https://dc.claremont.org/investigative-reports/Support the showSign up for the Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/chasedavisFollow Full Proof Theology on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/fullprooftheology/Follow Full Proof Theology on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/fullprooftheology/

"Whither the Looniversity?" - A Podcast on the Miserable State of the American University
Prof. Yenor teaches political philosophy at Boise State University. Recently, he accepted a position as a Washington Fellow at the Claremont Institute's Center for the American Way of Life. Yenor's most recent book is entitled "The Recovery of Family Life: Exposing the Limits of Modern Ideologies." His talks at the National Conservatism conference on the subjects of feminism and the sexual revolution have triggered the campus left, the acolytes of which continue to nip at his heels. We discuss policy interventions that might counter the excesses of wokeness on America's university campuses and the in-roads that Gov. Ron DeSantis has made in Florida.

Co-Host Dr. Scott Yenor (https://mountaintoppodcast.com/revolution) My returning guest is the ever-controversial professor at Boise State University and now Senior Director of State Coalitions for Claremont Institute. Exactly 100 shows ago, he and I threw down what has become one of the most cited episodes in the catalog...on the pressures facing men, the family and even sexual procreation in this culture. This long-anticipated follow-up covers the social factors that may be keeping you single instead of dating and relating to women. As you well know, we're not about whining and victimhood around here. So the tone of this episode is more about empowering you to navigate the current societal roadblocks than merely complaining. Right off the bat, Scott proclaims that our civilization is straight-up broken, and the reasons for that are complicated. But he's forthright in saying the very sexual dance between men and women appears to be breaking down, and offers clear reasons why. How has emphasizing career and financial production for women, among other factors, contributed to the need for what Scott calls 'The Sexual Counter-Revolution'? Why is this so offensive to even talk about nowadays? And importantly, how do we as men factor into all of this? (For what it's worth, I gasped when I heard Scott's answer to that question.) And perhaps most amazingly of all, listen to the ironic reason why Scott thinks it may be easier nowadays for you to find the right woman for you than ever. Aaron Renn has persuasively argued that we now live in the “negative world” with respect to Christianity. Being Christian is sociologically speaking, no longer seen by society as a positive good or even a neutral thing, but rather a negative evil — something to be gotten rid of (“Three Worlds” in First Things). Our guest has seen this born out in his own workplace as he records what happened when he professed a return to biblical male and female, family dynamics at a conference (“Anatomy of a Cancellation” in First Things). He admits he should have seen it coming, but even he was surprised by what happened. His suggestion was to begin cultivating a spirit of martyrdom. ----more---- Host: Fr. Are college professors allowed to write about the differences between men and women? Can they speak out about the importance of strong families in creating strong societies? The short answer is no. In this episode, Naomi and Ian are joined by Scott Yenor, Professor of Political Science at Boise State University and the author of The Recovery of Family Life. Scott was recently investigated by his employer after sharing his thoughts on these matters. After fifty years during which conservatives have tried to accommodate the basic principles of feminism, Scott explains that we need to celebrate the natural differences between men and women instead of socially engineering gender roles based on political ideology. Scott objects to gender equity programs in professional development and believes that K-12 schools should focus more on teaching students how they can build a solid marriage and happy family. Boise State University political science professor Scott Yenor wrote a powerful piece calling for a sexual counter-revolution in last November's edition of First Things magazine. Yenor says that in the past, people believed that sexual modesty and chastity were virtues. Marriage was to be a monogamous and permanent relationship between a man and a woman. But as a result of the sexual revolution, this has changed. What Yenor calls followers of Christ to is what he calls a sexual counter-revolution. As I read Yenor's article and recommendations I couldn't help but think that this needs to begin in the home, with parents who diligently teach God's will and way to even the youngest of their children. Yenor warns us that the continued spread of pornography and the advances being made in the development of sex robots should feed our urgency to educate our kids. Parents, push back on our culture's promotion of cheap sex, with God's good order and design.

Scott Yenor made some statements about his opposing views towards feminism in America. This man is a college professor who stands against higher education ideals like colleges and universities, yet has personally and financially benefited from such an organization, Boise State University in Boise, ID. Every person has a purpose. Men can stay at home, women can stay at home, as long as they can afford to do so; keeping a roof over the heads of their loved ones. Do we deserve a future in support of feminism? Is the lack of COVID-19 health practices part of the desire to purge human life as punishment by the radical conservative christian right?Perhaps the lack of confidence in the future is the reckless re-population of this planet? The unchecked proliferation of natural and finite resources?"Soy boys" a slang phrase to call plant-based and environmentally conscientious men "weak" in the eyes of artery clogged masculine men who are preparing to die prematurely of a massive heart attack; men who are scared to question the old ways and adapt to the knowledge of today and sustainability of tomorrow.Misogyny is "dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women."Feminism is "the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes." His most recent book is The Recovery of Family Life: Exposing the Limits of Modern Ideologies. Russia endured political upheaval in the 19th century and beyond as the Czarist regime was opposed by liberal reformers, radical socialists, and violent nihilists. Authors such as Leo Tolstoy, Ivan Turgenev, and Fyodor Dostoyevsky chronicled the rapid changes and predicted the carnage that would result from communism and scientific materialism. Much of the discussion focuses on Dostoyevsky’s The Possessed (also known as Devils or Demons), a novel exploring how a cell of radical leftists can take down a small community from within. So many today misunderstand the public debate about marriage. No matter what your view about marriage, the public debate is about the State's involvement in marriage, the changing of long held social mores through coercive policy/legislation, and the enforcement or lack of enforcement of basic laws that incentivize healthy families for the sake of the common good of the culture. Understanding that marriage is MORE than a relationship, it's an institution means that the State can't be neutral to the basics of marriage while at the same time not taking over the roles that are best played by fathers and mothers for the sake of their children. Welcome to More Christ, where we seek to bring some of the world's most interesting and insightful guests to discuss life's central and abiding questions. In this twenty sixth episode in a series of discussions, I'm joined by the stellar Dr Scott Yenor. Dr Scott Yenor is a Professor of Political Science at Boise State University, where he teaches political philosophy. He lives in Idaho, USA with his wife, Amy, and his five children. Scott is the author of Family Politics: The Idea of Marriage in Modern Political Thought (2011) and The Recovery of Family Life: Exposing the Limits of Modern Ideologies (2020).
Scott Yenor discusses his new book The Recovery of Family Life
My guest Scott Yenor is a professor of political science at Boise State University and a Washington Fellow of the Claremont Institute. The main focus of his work is on the family in political thought. I first found out about him when he was on the Tucker Carlson show, of all places, where he discussed the fascinating social dynamic of how we as men tend to avoid marriage and fatherhood in our younger years, only to wish we had a wife and kids in our later years. Above and beyond that, this episode is a deep dive into societal agendas imposed upon men, women, sex and relationships. In his book, 'The Recovery of Family Life: Exposing the Limits of Modern Ideologies', Yenor exposes the three main pressures on men, women and family life in the post-modern world. Regardless of which party you tend to vote for, I invite you to tune in for this all-important discussion of how powerful social movements absolutely influence our dating, relating and sexual patterns in western culture. Not only do we get to the bottom of why we as men in particular are scared to death to become husbands, let alone fathers, you won't believe how many different outside influences have been working against male/female relations and the family unit as we know it. I also issue a special invitation to any man out there who has become jaded against women and negative or bitter toward them. Listen closely, because your conclusions have probably been influenced--or as Scott would say, 'unbuckled'--in more subtle ways than you've ever considered. And wait until you discover what Scott calls 'the problem with no name'. The family is under attack in our culture today, with many ideologies attempting to undermine it. So, what can be one to push back? Last month, I reviewed a book that focused on saving the family from our culture. Dr. Scott Yenor joined me for an interview about his new book: The Recovery of Family Life. Tune in to learn more about what we need to do to save the family and halt the attack our culture is waging on it. The Rolling Revolution In his book, Yenor identifies a revolution that has been bubbling up for over a century in our culture. It combines liberal premises with other ideologies to create a never-ending revolution. Below, you'll find how it's described on the Yenor Book website: The Sexual Revolution, underway for decades now, is a rolling revolution—a set of unfinishable ambitions, all affecting marriage and family life. The ideologies of feminists, contemporary liberals, and sexual liberation theorists form a "rolling revolution" that has sunk deeply into our culture and political regime. As a result, marriage and family life suffer. Saving the Family From Our Culture For me, I was happy to see a book that offered not just a discussion of the problem, but insight into how to solve it. In The Recovery of Family Life, Dr. Yenor proposes things like encouraging part time work for women and facilitating it through good policy. Furthermore, it's important to recognize how "retail feminists" sell policies that have broader effects and oppose those policies. Policies like contraception, subsidized daycare, and pushing women into the workplace all serve to undermine the family. No matter what they may say about it, that is the end goal. But, in this interview he offers those solutions for saving the family from our culture. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/conofourgen/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/conofourgen/support
So, I'm now back in the office for recording, and if you can't see it you should check out my YouTube Channel. You'll be able to watch the book reviews and see the new office. But, to get to the topic for this episode, I'll be discussing a book by Scott Yenor. The Recovery of Family Life is an insightful look into the attack on the family, and how to push back. I learned about this book because someone reached out to me about it. After reading most of it, I can say this is a crucial read for everyone in our culture today. Unlike other reviews I've done, this is one that someone reached out to me to review. And, I'm glad she did. If it weren't for her reaching out, I wouldn't have found this book that has really intrigued me. I must say that this has really changed how I approach some of the cultural-political problems we face. "This revolution is a 'sexual revolution' in the large and proper sense. I call it the rolling revolution because its principles are such that they will only with great difficulty, if ever, be achieved and they can call for a continuous transformation of marriage and family life." -Scott Yenor The Destruction of Family Life In this incredibly well-researched book, Yenor explains the problems that arise from feminism and a simplified liberalism. By tracing feminist activists' works, he demonstrates how our society has attacked the family and family values. Instead of building up families and supporting them, we've actively worked against them. Grab Your Copy Here >> Not only does Yenor explain feminism, but he does this by extensively citing and quoting their work. Rather than hearing these ideas second or third-hand, he shows you what the founders of this feminist and liberal ideology say. If you don't believe me, you should buy the book and look at the 70+ pages of notes and citations. The Recovery of Family Life But, where's the positive side of things? Well, Yenor doesn't just leave us with all the problems he describes. He explains the basic problem, as well as some other issues curbing the progress of the "rolling revolution." What I like most is that he shows a way forward. My goal is to solve the problems of today with the wisdom of the past, and I think Yenor's book exemplifies how that's done. By pulling from tremendous thinkers, explaining the current issue, and proposing prudent solutions, he is doing what I like to see. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/conofourgen/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/conofourgen/support
