Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues our Servants & Stewards - Vision & Mission series. In a moment when our culture is fractured, politics are polarized, and comfort tempts us to live as if we don't need God, we're called back to our true identity: servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Drawing from Paul's words to the Corinthians, we're reminded that following Jesus isn't about grasping for power or influence — it's about picking up the oar, going low, and living faithfully in that tension. Let's embrace lives that may look like "the scum of the world" to others, yet carry eternal weight as we boldly, humbly, and sacrificially share the hope of the gospel — whatever it takes.Thank you for listening to this message from Northwest Hills Community Church in Corvallis, Oregon, on September 14, 2025, at 9:30am. Sometimes when we're struggling in life, it can feel like God's not listening. We keep telling God about our challenges and asking for help, but it sometimes seems like God's gone silent. That can be really painful and frustrating. So in today's sermon we'll explore a powerful biblical story about that very experience, and we'll discover a surprisingly simple insight that has the potential to transform our relationship with God and change our lives. Join us as we continue our series, “Powerful Prayers.” Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 3:1-10 Share: Know someone who needs this message right now? Send them the link! Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 12:5, 9–10 (NLT) “That experience is worth boasting about, but I'm not going to do it. I will boast only about my weaknesses… Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.' So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That's why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” The Apostle Paul reminds us that true strength in the Christian life does not come from our abilities, popularity, or achievements—it comes from God's grace. Paul faced hardships, insults, persecution, and constant opposition, yet he learned to rejoice in weakness because that's where God's power shines the brightest. Instead of relying on himself, Paul relied completely on God's grace. This is a lesson for us today. When life feels overwhelming, when insults or troubles come our way, we don't have to be ashamed or defeated. We can say, “Lord, I rely on Your grace. I boast in my weakness so that Your strength may be seen in me.” In every trial, His grace is sufficient, and His power will carry us through. Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time“If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:25). These words of Jesus seem shocking and harsh. Instead, Jesus is using a literary device called hyperbole, that uses extreme exaggeration to create a strong impression or emphasize a point; it's not meant to be taken literally but rather to evoke emotion and action in the listener's mind. We know these words are hyperbole because we know the overwhelming content of the Gospel message: Love. You and I are called to love God and neighbor, but when forced to make a choice, a disciple knows the answer. It is a total way of life that demands commitment, suffering, and sacrifice.Scripture Readings for September 7, 2025Wisdom 9:13-18Psalm 90:3-6, 12-14, and 17Philemon 9-10, 12-17Luke 14:25-33

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 11:1-4 2 Corinthians 11:1-4 – “I hope you will put up with a little of my foolishness. I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” In today's Daily Devotions, Pastor Sumrall reflects on Paul's godly jealousy for the church at Corinth. Paul's concern was not about control or ownership, but about protecting the believers' pure devotion to Christ. He observed that others were stepping into their spiritual lives, teaching false ideas, and subtly pulling them away from the faith he had nurtured. This teaching applies to us today by reminding us to stay rooted in the truth of Christ and recognize the shepherds God has placed in our lives. Leaders who guide us faithfully care for our spiritual growth, and it's natural for them to feel a godly concern when our devotion is at risk. We are encouraged to discern teaching, remain loyal to Christ, and honor those invested in our spiritual journey. ------ Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon
