Leviticus 16:1-19 One of the ways that the storyline of the Bible can be summarized is through the lens of God’s presence as the goal. The dilemma is that God is more holy than our sinful selves can bear. In the centre of Leviticus is God’s solution to the dilemma: Atonement.
Atoning for your sins is an area of your life where you don't want to take shortcuts. After all, in God's eyes, you are either guilty of sin or you're not. There are no half-measures. In today's message, Pastor Jeff teaches you about Cain and Abel, and about how Abel's offering recognized God's requirement of blood to atone for sins. However, Cain wanted to take a shortcut by sacrificing the fruit of his fields, but in doing so, he rebelled against God. The Lord doesn't accept insincere offerings.
Cross Words: The Atoning Sacrifice by LaGrave Church
This is a moment to reflect on reconciliation, as Elder Neil L. Anderson speaks of the power of Jesus Christ's atonement.
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/faith-love-trust--3493635/support.

Brother Howard Gordon took us to the Book of Leviticus this morning, with a fresh look at the burnt offering and sin offering and how they reveal precious aspects of the Lord's sacrifice on the cross.
On this week's episode of Inklings we go over the talk by Neil L. Andersen: The Atoning Love of Jesus Christ
This is a moment to reflect on reconciliation, as Elder Neil L. Anderson speaks of the power of Jesus Christ's atonement.
Answer: No, Christ died once for all. The Lord's Supper is a covenant meal celebrating Christ's atoning work; as it is also a means of strengthening our faith as we look to him, and a foretaste of the future feast. But those who take part with unrepentant hearts eat and drink judgment on themselves. Each week in 2025, we will discuss a question and answer from the New City Catechism. This podcast aims to be a delightful way to learn devotionally rich doctrine amid daily life. Each episode is produced at Grandview Church in Kitchener, Ontario. Ephesians 6:10-20THE BATTLE IS REAL, BUT IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINKFor our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12Your real enemy isn't your boss, your ex, or your circumstances—it's much more dangerous than that."We modern people are too materialistic to believe in spiritual warfare, yet too superstitious to deny that evil exists. We sense something is wrong but misidentify the enemy. The enemy wants you to fight the wrong battlesWe exhaust ourselves fighting people instead of praying. We blame circumstances instead of recognizing spiritual oppositionWe try self-help solutions for spiritual problems"You can't fight a spiritual battle with physical weapons."This is why all our cultural solutions—therapy, politics, education, technology—while good in themselves, never quite deliver the peace and transformation they promise. They're addressing symptoms, not the disease."You can't win a spiritual war with a worldly weapon."APPLICATION: Stop blaming people for problems that have spiritual roots.DON'T TALK ABOUT IT, PUT IT ON!13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:13Notice Paul doesn't say "forge your armor" or "earn your armor." He says, "Put on” God's armor. This is grace. Christianity isn't about making yourself strong enough for battle; it's about clothing yourself in Christ's strength. The Belt of Truth (v. 14a)“Truth isn't just something you believe—it's something that holds everything else together."Jesus Is the Truth, Put on the Gospel! His perfect life, Atoning death, and resurrectionThe Belt Holds the Armor TogetherThe Breastplate of Righteousness (v. 14b)Your heart is protected not by your goodness, but by His."This is not your righteousness. Put on Jesus' righteousness.Shoes of the Gospel of Peace (v. 15)You can't stand firm if you don't know where you stand."Roman soldiers wore special boots with hobnails for traction. The gospel gives us traction in slippery circumstances—we're stable because we know we're loved, forgiven, and secured by grace. You also need these to march. Can you follow your orders from the master? The Shield of Faith (v. 16)"Faith doesn't make the arrows disappear—it keeps them from destroying you."Flaming arrows" are doubts, temptations, accusationsDistractions from the main thingThe Helmet of Salvation (v. 17a)"What you think about your salvation determines how you live."Your head (your mind, your thoughts) must be protected) Rom 12:2Assurance of salvation keeps you from despair and pride.Without this helmet, every failure makes you think you've lost your salvation, and every success makes you think you've earned it. The helmet reminds you: you're saved by grace, kept by grace, and will be glorified by grace. The Sword of the Spirit (v. 17b)"The only offensive weapon God gives you is His Word."Jesus defeated Satan with Scripture (Matthew 4)In our culture, we think arguments, protests, and power moves change things. But God says His Word, spoken in the Spirit's power, is what advances His kingdom. We've traded the sword for pop psychology and cultural commentary—and wonder why we're losing ground.WE PUT IT ON THROUGH PRAYER"Wearing the armor isn't enough—you must stay connected to the Commander."Paul ends this armor passage not with "Now go fight!" but with "Pray constantly." Why? Because the armor isn't magic—it represents our relationship with Christ. Prayer is how we stay connected to the power source.Paul asks for prayer himself"If Paul needed prayer support, what makes you think you can fight alone?"Prayerless Christians are like soldiers who show up to battle but never talk to their commanding officer."4. IT MUST BE RECEIVED
By Roc Corbett - The Day of Atonement is a sacred reminder of God's profound love and mercy, revealing the heart of His plan to reconcile humanity to Himself through Jesus Christ. This message explores how the ancient rituals of Leviticus 16 foreshadowed the perfect and eternal work of our High Priest, who entered
In this interview with Dr. James Renihan, we explore the work of Christ and His atoning sacrifice as articulated in Article XVIII of the First London Baptist Confession of Faith.
A sacrifice brought for a different reason than the original intent is a kosher/valid sacrifice, but it doesn't remove the obligation for whatever sacrifice from the individual who needs to bring it. Plus, Resh Lakish and his penchant for lying on his stomach in the beit midrash (study hall), presumably as an example of his very simple living. He is named here because of his queries on the above principle regarding a sacrifice brought for the wrong intention. Meaning, if the offering is valid, why wouldn't it provide atonement for the person offering it? Rabbi Eliezer has an answer, based on a parallel to an offering that was designated by a given individual, but not brought before that person died. With a parallel to the woman who bears a child (with the open question regarding her potential dealth in the interim, given the maternal death rate at the time). Also, other sages weigh in on the same divided opinions - with precedent of a comparable situation, and making suppositions about how Resh Lakish would have responded to a query. Plus, more on the apparently comparable case of a mother's children and whehther they can effect the atonement ...
Last week, we noted that the Scriptures, both the Hebrew and New Testament Scriptures, teach that the Spirit of God is a person. The question is, what kind of a person? The Scriptures further teach that He is a divine person. By divine, it does not mean "excellent," or "delightful," although He is certainly that. Rather, by divine, it is meant He is deity. As the third person of the triune God, He is God, just as the other members of the triune God, the Father and the Son. This is seen in that He manifests the four essential attributes or characteristics of God: eternity, omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence. With respect to his eternal existence we read in Hebrews 9:14:"How much more will the blood of Messiah — who, through the eternal Spirit, offered himself unblemished to God — cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!"The Spirit of God is also omnipotent, all powerful. He was engaged in the creation of the world, ordering, arranging, and giving life to what otherwise would have remained "void," "formless" and shrouded in darkness (Genesis 1:1-2).The Spirit of God is also omniscient, all knowing. Paul writes, "...The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men, knows the thoughts of a man, except the man's spirit within him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God" (I Corinthians 2:10-11).Lastly, the Spirit of God is omnipresent, everywhere. David writes, "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast" (Psalm 139:7-10).How wonderful is this for believers in Yeshua. He imparts His Spirit to us, to be with us everywhere and anywhere we might be in this life, and for all of eternity. His presence serves to guide and protect us always!YouTube: https://youtube.com/live/593cdTdFuB4Send us a text

Romans 5:8, "God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."At the very center of God's eternal purpose, stands the cross of Jesus. Calvary is not merely a tragic moment in history--it is the appointed place where Divine justice met Divine mercy. There, the spotless Lamb of God bore the sins of His people, that they might be made the righteousness of God in Him. The crucifixion of our Lord was not an accident of human hatred, but the outworking of God's sovereign and eternal decree. "It was the Lord's will to crush Him, and cause Him to suffer." Isaiah 53:10. There, on that cursed tree, our Savior accomplished the ultimate demonstration of divine love--His substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of His chosen people. "The punishment that brought us peace, was upon Him." Isaiah 53:5. How precious is the sin-atoning death of Jesus! Divine justice demanded a payment, and divine mercy provided it in Jesus.Every blow of the whip, every thorn pressed into His sacred brow, every nail driven into His sinless flesh, every bit of spit spewed on His blessed face, was the due penalty of our transgressions--yet He bore it willingly, out of His great love for us!How utterly vile must sin be to the thrice holy God, that nothing less than the horrifying death of His only beloved Son could take it away! How vast must His love be, that He would not spare His only begotten Son from undergoing the full punishment that our sins rightly deserved. It is here at the cross, that the believing soul sees the unchanging character of God: His holiness did not relax. His justice was not bypassed. His truth was not compromised. Here is th

The Atoning SacrificeText: 1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.John brings us back to the historic event of the Cross, where certain things happened – things that could be achieved by no other, things that had profound effects in heaven and earth, things that had eternal consequences, including our forgiveness from sin, and John can't leave this subject without focussing on what made it all possible. Every sermon must return to the Cross. Here's three great facts simply stated…1. The Exclusivity of the Sacrifice. HE is the propitiation for our sins:2. The Effectiveness of the Sacrifice. He is the PROPITIATION for our sins.3. The Extent of the Sacrifice. and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.Read the NOTES HERE. Hosted on Acast. Our journey continues through Dante's poetic imagery of the seven deadly sins. As Bishop Barron describes them in order of their severity, we discover that in order to atone for each sin, those in purgatory are punished with the repetitive practice of a countervailing virtue. Bishop Barron's course, “Dante's Catholic Imagination,” is timeless and ever-relevant. Watch it in its entirety in the Word on Fire Institute. NOTE: Do you like this podcast?
