Jason Dennen is on a mission to inspire people by sharing his story of survival and to empower people to get through life's most challenging hardships by utilizing the lessons they have already learned throughout their lives, and by taking advantage of the strength, they already possess inside themselves.   Book BRIEF - "8 Days Till Sunrise:  A True Story of Survival, Rebirth, and Discovering My Purpose in Life"This is a story about a man going down a path he hadn't intended to go down where he lost his way. He thought he was going through one of life's difficult trials when he hit the side of a building at high speed in a skydiving accident. And that is when his real trial began. The accident left him in a coma for 8 days. He woke up from a coma to a badly broken body that required him to stay in the hospital for three and a half months, undergo 11 months of rehabilitation, and relearn to walk.  After being told by his doctor he may never be able to run again, he decided to sign up for a triathlon to test the doctor's prognosis. Less than one year after the accident he completed a triathlon and proved the doctor wrong.  He relied on the foundation he built years before the accident to survive and recover.  He was guided by the scriptures and lessons from the Bible that he learned throughout his life. The long journey to recovery from the accident allowed him time to reassess the direction of his life and answer the question why was his life spared. This second chance at life revealed to him a new purpose in life. He promised himself that he would share his story, and what he learned to help others that are going through difficult hardships in their own lives.

Have you ever tried hypnotherapy? Are you curious about it, or maybe even a bit wary of it?For many reasons, including that "wary" feeling many folks have about hypnosis, I'm super excited to have an expert come on the podcast to speak about this final piece of the Untethered Practices series.Welcome back to the podcast life coach and certified hypnotherapist, Tarla Makaeff, who has allowed me to dive deep with her on an "ask me anything, hypnotherapy." In this episode, she shares what hypnotherapy is, why someone might use it, how it's done, and when it can be supportive. She also takes time to candidly break down some of the misconceptions about hypnotherapy. As for my own hypno experience, I've personally leveraged this practice in my own untethering journey, and it has helped me delve into my subconscious and reprogram some old beliefs and behaviors that were not coherent with my current and conscious values, motivations, and beliefs. Like all the other practices discussed in this series, I'm an advocate for reaching out to an expert who can guide you through it – if and when it feels supportive to you.Would love to hear if you've tried hypnotherapy, and what you think about it if you have! Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Friday! This week's theme for the podcast is: AssertivenessAssertiveness might not be something you think about often or think is super important, but knowing how to be assertive comes in handy during so many different times in our lives. Some might quickly categorize this as something super important to have at work, which is true, but is great to practice in your personal life, too. You don't want to be known on the downlow as someone that can be walked all over. But you also don't want to be seen as that overly aggressive person that no one feels comfortable talking to.Join me in learning more about being assertive this week! Here are some notes from today's episode:So now that we have spent the week talking about what makes someone assertive, comparing being assertive to being passive to being aggressive & how to become more assertive, it leads me to talk about how becoming more assertive will benefit you a ton.But right now, let's discuss the benefits of being assertive. First off, being assertive will help you gain more self-confidence & higher self-esteem. You're out there, holding your head up high & being more confident in what you're saying & expressing your true feelings. When people can express themselves freely without fear of others, the confidence shoots to the moon.In addition to becoming more confident & having higher self-esteem, you will also understand & recognize your feelings better. When you suppress your emotions & desires you end up not knowing who you are anyone.By actually acknowledging those feelings & letting them out for people to hear & receive, you become more comfortable with how you truly feel & being okay with letting those emotions out. You will also gain more respect from others. By being more secure in who you are & what you're saying, people will naturally trust you more, respect more & really understand who you are & what you're about. Confidence comes from knowing what you want & figuring out what to do about it.Naturally, your communication skills will improve. By learning to become more assertive, you will be able to get your thoughts, feelings & main points across more clearly. You will be direct, yet welcoming in your communication approach & be able to share your thoughts without becoming too concerned about what other people think or feel about your views & opinions. And not only your communication skills, but your decision-making skills. You will be able to make decisions based on what you think is best for you, but also everyone else, if that is applicable. Decisions will also be based less on emotions & come from a more neutral place. You will be able to spot the happy medium & balance of serving yourself & others at the same time.Lastly, by being more assertive, you will accomplish more. When you are free with your thinking & no longer afraid to take action because of what someone else would say or think, you try more things & get more done. There are many more other benefits to being assertive, but these are an important few I thought would be helpful to highlight. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at sjperozzo@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Next Week's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

You don't want to be known on the downlow as someone that can be walked all over. But you also don't want to be seen as that overly aggressive person that no one feels comfortable talking to.Join me in learning more about being assertive this week! Here are some notes from today's episode:Today I wanted to give you some easy tips on how you can become an assertive person. Maybe you struggle with being assertive, like me, & need some pointers on how to improve.First off, being assertive requires you to be able to communicate openly & honestly with others. You need to be able to say what you mean & feel, while also admitting to any mistakes or wrongdoings. Being honest & transparent is the key to gaining more respect, loyalty & trust. Next, while communicating openly & honestly is important, you need to also be able to communicate clearly. Be more direct & concise with what you have to say.  The best way to know if you are being clear is to ask yourself if what you're saying even makes sense to you. Also, listening more than speaking is always great advice. Also, make sure your body language is in line with what you are saying. Make eye contact when speaking, stand up tall but still look welcoming, smile if you find it's appropriate, give firm handshakes & just feel your confidence through your whole body, not just your mind. You need to be ok to deal with confrontation. Embrace the opportunity to learn from the other person/people & push yourself to endure the challenge of getting through the conflict.Being assertive also has to do with being able to control your emotions. People will take you seriously if you can control of yourself when needed & not overreact. Also, think before you react. It will prevent you from saying something you may regret.Show respect to others. Being assertive is being able to achieve the balance of serving yourself & others at the same time. Easy ways to show respect is to listen without interrupting, stop judging others, seek to actually understand what is being communicated & be approachable when someone wants to give or receive feedback. And lastly, some quick hitters: Speak up when you speak because what you have to say matters, despite how others will react. Don't say sorry if you haven't done anything wrong. Speak up for what you believe, what you need & what you want. And of course, remember & know that you are in charge of your behavior & other people are in charge of theirs. Be confident enough in what you think, feel & believe that it doesn't matter what others say to you or about you.The best way to get better at being assertive is obviously to practice in real life. And don't give up on yourself if you find you falter in the beginning. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at sjperozzo@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Wednesday! Here are some notes from today's episode:Today I want to use some comparisons so that it's easy to understand whether you are being aggressive, passive or assertive & just a brief overview of all three.Let's start with an easy one. If you are passive, you give into everything someone tells/asks you to do. If aggressive, you take control of the situation & end up being the one telling people what they have to do. But if you're assertive, you compromise. If you are passive, you are constantly trying to keep the peace with everyone & cause no waves. If aggressive, you really are only looking out for yourself. But if you're assertive, you will make sure everything is fair for everyone involved, without leaving anyone out.If you are passive, you tend to allow others to bully you. If aggressive, let's face it, you're the bully. But if you're assertive, you will stand up for yourself. If you are passive, it's going to be very rare that you say what you think or really speak at all. If aggressive, you will speak aggressively, shout, possible violence will occur & you will talk over others & not allow them to speak at all. But if you're assertive, you end up expressing your point very clearly & with confidence & also have a balance of both speaking & listening. This is a good one because the passive & aggressive are very similar, which is interesting. If you are passive, you will tend to damage your relationships because people end up respecting you less. If aggressive, you will also end up damaging your relationships because peeps don't like aggression. But if you're assertive, you end up enhancing relationships because they know you well & know where you stand on most things. Here is a small thing, but I believe it is super important with communication. If you are passive, you avoid eye contact with others. If aggressive, it's more of a judgemental stare. But if you're assertive, you just maintain eye contact. If you are passive, you believe everyone else is more valuable than you are. If aggressive, you tend to hurt others to avoid getting hurt yourself. But if you're assertive, you value yourself & respect others. This is the last one & my fav: If you are passive, you have soft or no boundaries at all. If aggressive, you can be very demanding but also have hard boundaries. But if you're assertive, you have healthy boundaries that set good limits for yourself. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at sjperozzo@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Thursday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Tuesday! Here are some notes from today's episode:I want to go through a series of questions to ask yourself & briefly talk about why or why not that relates to being assertive. So the first question to ask yourself is: Are you able to say ‘no' without feeling guilty or anxious?Part of being assertive is being able to create & abide by your personal boundaries, no matter how intense or aggressive the situation gets. You want to have the strength to say ‘no' when you want to & not get convinced otherwise.Next question: Are you able to express strong feelings, like anger, frustration or disappointment?Asserting how you feel & sharing those feelings with the people that need to know is super important. If someone hurts you, disrespects you or any other offense, you need to have the strength to tell them how that made you feel.Next question: Are you able to acknowledge & take responsibility for your own mistakes?Being assertive means you need to be able to own up to your own mistakes & faults. Accept that you took a wrong path, made and error, learn from it & move on. Next question: Can you discuss your beliefs without judging those who don't agree with you?Not only do you need to be assertive in your own beliefs, but you need to be secure enough in your own stance that is someone else has different beliefs, it isn't going to affect you. In addition to this, ask your self if you can also express your honest opinion to others, even if you know they won't agree with you. It's kind of the flip side.Next question: Can you speak confidently in groups?Being assertive, that gentle balance between being aggressive & passive, includes being able to voice your opinion, outloud, & feel confident in what you're saying, despite what others may think.Next question: Are you comfortable delegating tasks to others? There will probably be times in your life where you need to tell family members, friends, people you are managing in a volunteer setting what they need to do & how to do it. Even moreover, you might need to correct them on something, too. Here is the last question for you: Do you deal with conflict head-on?I want you to know that dealing with conflict straight on & not running away or avoid it is strong. And necessary. You can't avoid all your problems or issues. You need to access your inner strength & confidence & handle the struggles as soon as you can. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at sjperozzo@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you fSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Monday! Here are some notes from today's episode:Being assertive is a core communication skill that can help you express your feelings & control your stress & anger & improve coping skills.Today I just want to briefly go over what it means to be assertive so there is some context when we talk about it more in depth during the week.Firstly, being assertive means you are able to stand up for your own or someone else's rights, while still being calm & positive. This also means doing it without being aggressive or being passive & just accepting everyone's crap or that you are in the wrong. This will allow you to respect others' rights & beliefs at the same time.Being assertive can also help to boost your self-esteem & earn others' respect.By bettering your self-esteem & gaining respect from others, your stress levels will naturally come down & you'll feel better about yourself.Another way to look at this is that the ability to be assertive allows people to act in their own best interests, while also standing up for themselves without too much anxiety & be able to express honest feelings without feeling awkward & express personal rights without getting in the way of someone else's rights. Assertiveness is based on mutual respect, which makes it a really effective way to communicate with most people. When you're properly being assertive, you are showing respect to yourself because you are willing to stand-up for yourself, your thoughts & feelings. But there is also respect for the other person, their rights & taking the most respectful approach for resolving conflicts.Assertive communication is direct & respectful & it gives you the best chance of successfully getting your message across to the other person. You don't want to be passive & no one takes you seriously or be aggressive & no one can hear what you're saying because they don't understand anything beyond your anger. Here are some assertive behaviors to note: Being open in expressing your wishes, thoughts & feelings & encouraging others to do the same. Listening to other's views & responding appropriately, whether in agreement or not. Accepting responsibility, being able to admit to your own mistakes & make the appropriate apologies & being able to delegate things to other people. Making sure to express appreciation for others for what they have done or are doing. And maintaining self-control & behaving as as equal to others. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at sjperozzo@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Tuesday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)
