Wie die Seun het, het die lewe; wie nie die Seun van God het nie, het ook nie die lewe nie. Weet my, dis regtig nie my bedoeling om mense aanstoot te gee nie! Sommige dae is dit onvermydelik dat party mense sal voel dat ek op hulle tone trap … en dat dit wat ek sê, hulle ontstel. Vandag kan dalk net so 'n dag wees...Hou jy daarvan om gemaklik te wees? Ek hou beslis daarvan. Ek het 'n sagte, bruin leer sitkamerstoel in die hoek van my studeerkamer. Ek het dit al jare lank en ek is seker dis die gemaklikste stoel waarin ek nog ooit gesit het. Dit is my dink-stoel, my bid-stoel, my ontspan-stoel.Ons hou daarvan om onsself met gemak te omring, en so weef ons deesdae toenemend 'n snoesige wolkombersie van gerieflike waarhede, waarin ons onsself kan toevou. Dis nou nie so vreeslik belangrik dat sommige van hierdie waarhede nou nie heeltemal waar is nie. Inteendeel een of twee mag dalk heeltemal van koers af wees, solank (a) hulle net gemaklik is en (b) niemand vir ons aanstoot gee deur vir ons te vertel dat ons onsself bedrieg nie...So verskoon my as dit jou wel aanstoot gee, maar eendag gaan jy sterf en dan moet jy voor God staan. Hy sal ons almal oordeel. Hy sal besluit of ons die ewigheid saam met Hom in die hemel, of geskei van Hom, in die hel, sal deurbring. Send us a textRomeine 8:31-32 Wat sal ons dan van al hierdie wonderlike dinge sê? As God aan ons kant is, wie kan ooit téén ons wees? As God nie sy eie Seun gespaar het nie, maar Hom ter wille van ons almal oorgegee het, sal Hy nie saam met Hom ook alle ander dinge aan ons skenk nie? (NLV) Daar gaan tye in jou lewe wees wanneer dinge net te veel word vir jou; wanneer mense, omstandighede en selfs jou eie onnoselheid teen jou tel; wanneer jy net in 'n balletjie wil opkrul en vergaan. Dit gebeur met ons almal.Geniet dit wanneer dit goed gaan, wanneer die lewe maklik is! Maar kom ons wees realisties, daardie tye hou nie vir ewig aan nie. Dinge gebeur wat die hele spul omverwerp. En aanvanklik is ons nog mans genoeg om die situasie te hanteer … totdat ons nie meer kan nie, totdat daardie laaste druppel die emmer laat oorloop.Soos die jare aangestap het, was dit vir my 'n kosbare openbaring om te besef dat ek dit nie alles op my eie kan of hoef te hanteer nie. Nie een van ons kan nie. En weet jy wat? Dit is 'n goeie ding.Romeine 8:31-32 Wat sal ons dan van al hierdie wonderlike dinge sê? As God aan ons kant is, wie kan ooit téén ons wees? As God nie sy eie Seun gespaar het nie, maar Hom ter wille van ons almal oorgegee het, sal Hy nie saam met Hom ook alle ander dinge aan ons skenk nie? (NLV)Kom ons verstaan dit mooi: God het sy Beste vir ons gegee. Jesus, sy Seun, het gely en aan die Kruis gesterf om vir ons sonde te betaal sodat ons, wanneer ons in Hom glo, die gratis gawe van die ewige lewe kan ontvang.Sal Hy nie daar wees vir jou wanneer jy swaarkry nie? Sal Hy jou hulpkrete ignoreer? Nee nooit nie! Want as Hy bereid was om so ver te gaan vir jou, kan jy nie vir een oomblik twyfel daaraan dat Hy enigiets vir jou sal doen nie.As God nie sy eie Seun gespaar het nie, maar Hom ter wille van ons almal oorgegee het, sal Hy nie saam met Hom ook alle ander dinge aan ons skenk nie?Dis Sy Woord. Die lewe is goed, die wêreld gaan aan; hoekom praat Berni dan hieroor?In 2023 het Geopende Deure ('n bediening aan vervolgde Christene) berig dat meer as 360 miljoen Christene weens hul geloof, hoë vlakke van vervolging en diskriminasie - insluitend geweld, tronkstraf, verlies van eiendom en sosiale uitsluiting - ervaar.In daardie selfde jaar is die aantal Christene wat vir hul geloof vermoor is, op meer as 5 000 geskat - 'n effense afname van vorige jare; maar dit wys ons dat geweld teen Christene steeds ‘n werklikheid is.Gister het ons gesien hoe sommige eerste-eeuse Christene, onder leiding van Petrus en Johannes, gereageer het op die vervolging wat hulle ly. Seun Kuti became the bandleader to Egypt 80 as a teenager after the original bandleader, his father, afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, died. He was filling heavy shoes. The Nigerian singer, songwriter and bandleader and Seun Kuti keeps alive the Afrobeat tradition founded by his legendary father, Fela Kuti, back in the 1970s. In fact, when Fela died in 1997, it was Seun, his youngest son, who took over the band, now called Egypt 80. Late last year a new museum opened its doors in Lagos, Nigeria, called The John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History. It is among a new generation of African cultural institutions – including the Bet Bi museum in Senegal, by Mariam Kamara, and the Museum of West African Art in Benin City by Adjaye Associates – which in different ways attempts to reimagine both the form and format of the contemporary museum from an African perspective. This week we speak with Seun Oduwole, who lead the design of the John Randle Centre. Oduwole is a Nigerian architect and the Principal Architect at SI.SA, a Lagos-based firm he founded in 2015. He earned his architecture degree from the University of Nottingham and gained experience at Hopkins & Partners, Benoy, and Sheppard Robson.
