World Wide Knit in Public Day I had a great time at World Wide Knit in Public Day this year. I got to see old friend and meet some new ones, and of course, I bought some yarn! I couldn't help myself!! Lollipop Yarn has a new line of yarn and it's delicious! I also purchased a skein of yarn from Spun Right Round at the LYS Warm and Fuzzy in Cary, NC. My next yarnie event will be Rhinebeck in October! Podcast Premiere Little Yellow Uke Podcast Little Yellow Uke on Etsy Daizie Knits Podcast Daizie Knits on Etsy This Episode is brought to you by Fiber to Fabric Magic, makers of the wildly popular, & exclusive, Needle Keeper. This innovative tool was created by Claudia, a knitter, and her engineer husband, to protect delicate knitting needles from damage while on a project in your knitting bag. Claudia had broken several pair of 00 wooden sock needles by being jostled around in her knitting bag and was desperate to find a way to protect her delicate, and expensive circulars. That was the Needle Keeper's original intention, but...it has turned out the Needle Keeper is perfect for keeping your live stitches from falling off the needle, and for protecting the joints (the needle to cable area). Extremely lightweight, practically indestructible, you can shove everything in your knitting bag and never worry. They make reaching into your bag and grabbing your project worry free, no dropped stitches! They come in 12 beautiful, bright colors, which makes them easy to see deep in your bag! Buy a different color for each project, contrasting against the current yarn color, or color-code for the type of project you're working on. Knitters LOVE them, read the nearly 1,000 5-star reviews on Etsy and pick up a few. The coupon deal for the PalKal 2016 is buy 4 and get one free from their Etsy shop, Fiber To Fabric Magic! Put 5 in your cart and one will ring up FREE. Claudia will be giving away 2 Needle Keepers to a lucky listener of this Podcast, and you get to choose which colors you'd like! Knitting Talkback: Yarn (The Movie) I was recently sent a screener copy of Yarn and I really enjoyed it. It was a different take on the fiber for me, but I found it really interesting and informative. Check out the website for more information about where you can see this film. I ran a charity run on Sunday, #CharlotteRunsForOrlando, and I have a race on July 4th with my friend Karen. Book Updates I finished reading and/or listening to: I Know I am But What Are You? By Samantha Bee Prada and Prejudice by Katie Olver I started reading and/or listening to: A Murder in Time by Julie McElwain Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari Briefly I mentioned that my grandparents live in Rainelle, West Virginia, the site of some major flooding last week. They are (thankfully) ok and their home was spared, but they are lucky to live on a mountain. The town was completely destroyed, many people lost their homes and everything they have. Knitting Segments Show-Ready Knits Pure Joy by Joji Locatelli I bought the Argentine yarn from Pura Hilados This brings my Stash Dash total to 1, 124 yards or 1027.8 meters. I became curious about why some shawl patterns use a garter tab for the starting point, so I did a little research. Check out this blog post at Kelbourne Woolens about garter tabs. This got me to thinking: how have I gotten away this long without doing a garter tab? What is something in knitting that you can't believe you have never done before? Please join in the Ravelry group for this podcast. Lake Superior State University list of banished words for 2016. The Michigan Machine Knitting Guild has a group on Ravelry. I’m going to Spring Fling 2016 in Peru, IN. The Artful Ewe in Port Gamble, WA is a cool shop in a cool town. So Much Yarn in Seattle, WA was packed with knitters when I was there. I bought two balls of Freia yarn after hearing about it on the Actually Knitting podcast. When I got to Portland, OR I went to Yarnia for the cones of yarn to order. After returning to Michigan, I went to the Yarn Garden shop in Charlotte where I bought a skein of Lang Jawool sock yarn, the Sock Ruler, two skeins of orange Cascade Roslyn yarn, and a little ceramic dish that looks like knit fabric by Charan Sachar. Sadly, there is no sense in linking to Davidson Old Mill Yarn but here’s the article about the history of the place printed in the Lansing State Journal. Nature Spun sport weight is great for color work mittens. Brittany size 2mm double pointed needles are bluntly beautiful. Signature Arts needles are also beautiful she said pointedly. I finished the Rose Red hat by Ysolda Teague with Brooklyn Tweed Loft yarn. I’m working on toe up socks with KnitCircus Gradient Stripes yarn. I recommend the LK150 mid-gauge knitting machine to beginners. Everyone should take Susan Guagliumi’s Craftsy class. Design your own sweater with Garment Designer software. Watch for the bonus episode with the interview with Helen Sharp of The Knitting School.
In this episode, the girls talk about stockings. Susie finishes her first pair of mittens, and Danie whips up a quick blanket. Some of the specific knitter-style stocking stuffers mentioned include the Sock Ruler, Anne Budd's Gauge Ruler, the Sirka Counter, Elizabeth Zimmerman quotation mug by winemakerssister, Knitter’s Pride Knit Blockers, peacock needle gauge and wraps-per-inch tools by hipstrings, Knitter’s Tool Tin by TheSexyKnitter, wool & wire stitch marker necklace and scissor sleeve sold on nevernotknitting.com, and emergency fix keychain sold on knitpicks.com. Contest The 2015 LegendPrairie contest is running! Post in the Ravelry thread and tell us about your favorite fibery FO of the year. Finished Projects Susie finished her first pair of mittens using Danie's Triangle Thumb Toddler Mittens pattern and Kirbywirby Worsted in Fru Fighters. Danie knit up a super quick lap blanket for her grandma - watch for the pattern! Current Projects Susie cast on a Barley hat out of her mitten leftovers, and an On the Bias Cowl out of Manos Del Uruguay Gloria in Oceano and Vereda. She also worked on her Socks in the Name of Science and Glenfiddich sweater, and will be ripping back a bit and reknitting on her Choice Bit of Calico test knit. Danie worked on some new mittens, and would have finished her Broncos Socks but for a literal thorn in her side (or hand, really). She also worked on her Fuzzy Hat. Future Projects Susie is planning an Infinito from Joji Locatelli's The Authentic Collection using Twisted Fiber Arts Arial Evolution in Phantom and Valley Yarns Charlemont (now discontinued) in Dusk. Danie is planning a Bluebird of Happiness for her grandma. Enhance the Stash Susie acquired Malabrigo Yarn Sock in Lettuce and Arco Iris.
