On today's episode, I talk to musician Rose Melberg. Originally from Sacramento, California, Rose has been a performing musician since high school in the early '90s. While only lasting a year, her first band Tiger Trap garnered a cult following and put out a self-titled album on K Records. Her next band Go Sailor lasted from 1994-1996, but in that short time, recorded a number of albums and singles for Slumberland and Lookout! At the same time, Rose formed The Softies with Jen Sbragia. While it was originally meant to be a side-project, it became the main musical focus for the pair, and between 1995 and 2000, they released three fantastic albums on K Records: It's Love, Winter Pageant and Holiday in Rhode Island. Since then, Rose has released a number of incredible solo albums and performed in different bands, but most recently, she and Jen started writing music together again, and their latest album The Bed I Made was just released on Father/Daughter Records, and it's the best! As you get more visible as a thought leader or go-to guide, you're gonna attract increasingly complicated collaborations, invites onto larger paid stages, and opportunities to work with larger corporate clients.
So weit, so gut. Was dann folgte? Eure Boyz

I have two mantras for this time of year: May is cray (because it's always jam-packed with various events), and March is meh (because we're tired of winter but it's not yet spring, at least not here in the Northeast). This week's episodes are my attempt to bust up some of that ‘meh' energy. Starting with this hodge podge list of things that are currently giving me life – a garment, a gadget, a book, a show, and a supplement. I hope at least one of these things will help you, too. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/audiostretto/message

It took nearly a decade for Tim Murphy and his father Dennis to build Softies into a modestly profitable women's loungewear brand, and just one mention by Oprah to catapult it into a whole new stratosphere. A career manufacturer's rep specializing in women's apparel, Dennis Murphy decided to start his own company in 2006. Inspired by his wife Peggy who was battling leukemia, Dennis Murphy created a line of super soft, moisture wicking sleepwear. His son Tim Murphy joined the business, based out of their Edina garage, in 2008 and together, they built a decent following. "It was enough to live on, but we were at the point where it was stagnant," Tim Murphy says. Six years ago, at a Dallas trade show, the Softies Snuggle Lounger caught the eye of Oprah's longtime creative director Adam Glassman. Softies debuted on Oprah's Favorite Things list is 2017 and has managed to stay on the list every year since. How does a small company prepare for an Oprah-sized spotlight and not buckle under the pressure? Tim Murphy, who has served as president since his father retired, talks about how Softies has leveraged the attention to keep growing—from hiring a CEO to expanding the product assortment. He shares advice on leadership, perseverance, and product development. "You have to make a quality product, you have to sell a product you believe in. If you don't believe what you're selling, no one else is going to believe you.” Following our conversation with Murphy, we go Back to the Classroom with the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business. Marketing professor Mike Porter points out that Softies didn't just get lucky in making the Oprah list; the company positioned itself to get recognized and was ready to make the most of the opportunity. “That's just good business,” Porter says.

I Want It That Way" schon wieder alle Tanzschritte gelernt.

This episode is a co-production with the Fifty Years of Fun podcast. In Jamming! 13, published in the spring of 1982, a 17-yr old Tony Fletcher wrote an editorial called ‘A Statement.' Among those to read it was Alan McGee, new to London from Glasgow at the time, who was inspired to start a fanzine and a club night and a label all of his own. That label was Creation Records, home to The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream and Oasis, to name but four. Along the way Alan would become a figurehead of the 1990s British music scene, and was recently the subject matter of a movie named for his autobiography, Creation Stories, produced by Danny Boyle, directed by Nick Moran, and co-written by Irvine Welsh.Tony Fletcher interviewed Alan McGee for The Best of Jamming!, and you will hear their conversation in this episode. Before that, courtesy of the podcast Fifty Years of Fun, which is producing an episode for each of the first 50 singles released on Creation, you will hear 'A Statement' read by Californian singer-songwriter Rose Melberg. Rose is a former member of the bands Tiger Trap, The Softies and Go Sailor and an established artist in her own right. And, following the interview with McGee, you will hear Matt Roberts and Scott Miller, from Fifty Years of Fun, interview Tony Fletcher about 'A Statement', its influence on McGee, and about the story of Jamming! and the culture of those times. Thanks to Fifty Years Of Fun for permission to use their material. A strong message to the dabblers, those of you who are in & out.
Softies rejoice! One of our favorite guests and people, from his podcast Ghosted, Roz Drezfalez is back on the spot. First Meg and Julian discuss their recent cruise (oh ship!) before they get into it with Roz about his formative childhood obsessions. From clowning (literally), to the rock and roll scene of suburban Michigan, to pro wrestling, we discover all the component parts that came together to make one awesome queen. Come and get it! The Extinction Rebellion rumbles on. Who should pay for it though? Mike says the arrested protestors! Plus a special Maundy Thursday edition of the Perrior Awards. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Happy Valentine's Day, Softies! Today, we show our love to you all by struggling through two rather quiet weeks in the video game world. Admittedly, we were a bit strapped for cash, but we scrounged up a few bucks to romance you with a chocolate-covered Marshmello Fortnite concert, a stuffed Groundhog Day VR game, a box of candy Xbox Live hearts, and a fresh bouquet of EA shooter impressions! Grab some headphones, hit play and follow the rose petals to some Softcast goodness! And don't forget to head over to Softcore_Gamers on Twitter to let us know what other holiday you wish never existed!
It's a special holiday episode with Meg and Julian! No guests this week... It's just the two of us, making sexy eyes at each other in a studio while we talk about the holidays! If you have complicated feelings about this time of year, you're not alone. Instead of being a Scrooge, cozy up with us to our imaginary fireplace where we chat about our favorite moments of the season, as well as the parts we aren't as enthusiastic about. Whatever your feelings are about this season, just remember that we are all in this together and we love you more than a port wine cheese ball at a holiday party (and we really really love that shit)! Happy holidays, Softies! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
