This week on Catholic Sprouts we will go over the parts of the Mass, the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Each day we will look at a few parts of the Mass, what is happening in each part, and what we are supposed to be doing during that part. I will also share some fun and free resources you can use for your family or class to prepare for each Sunday Mass or to review it. A small challenge is included each day based on reading the upcoming Sunday Mass Readings. + MONDAY: Let's look at the two main parts of the Mass and discuss the Introductory Rites, the beginning of Mass. + TUESDAY: Today we focus on the First and Second Readings and the Responsorial Psalm. Where do they come from and why are they important? + WEDNESDAY: We now look at the Gospel and Homily and the importance of scripture in the Mass. We finish discussing the Liturgy of the Word. + THURSDAY: We begin learning about the first part of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, with the Offertory Procession and the Eucharistic Prayer. + FRIDAY: We conclude our week with the last part of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, receiving Communion and the concluding prayers as we leave Mass. Deanna Bartalini prepares the Sunday Gospel Activities on CatholicMom.com. She is also a writer retreat leader, and spiritual director; you can connect with her personally at LiveNotLukewarm.com. A listener named Jim asks Father Dave about Sunday Mass readings during Lent. Jim says, “At Mass [on the Third Sunday of Lent], I was expecting the Gospel to be from Luke about the fig tree, but the actual Gospel that was read was from John about [the woman at the well.] Why would that change?”

You understand how difficult it is to function after a sleepless night, how hard it is to be kind, understanding and loving when you are exhausted, how frustrating it is to be tired and unable to do your best. Please intercede for us before the throne of God and ask that if it be His will, they may be able to sleep at night and no longer suffer from insomnia. If it is not God’s will at this time, we ask for the grace to use any sleepless hours as a time of prayer, offering that sleeplessness for the souls who most need God’s love and mercy. ***** Dr. Ben Reinhard, author of The High Hallow: Tolkien’s Liturgical Imagination Fr. Two of the details come from the first reading, taken from Wisdom 1:13-15, 2:23-24, and both have to do with theological questions concerning death—God's causal relation to it, and its relation to the fall of Adam. The third detail is Jesus' raising of Jairus' daughter in the Gospel reading, taken from Mark 5:21-24, 35b-43, which is the shorter version that leaves out the story of the hemorrhaging woman. The apologetical topic is the historicity of the stor…

In the final rooms of the 6th Dwelling Place of the Interior Castle, St. Teresa teaches us about some special favors our Lord gives to prepare the soul with wedding garments for entrance into His Kingly Chambers, the Throne Room. The Lord gives us the light to know we are in God and God is in us and how damaging it is for us to sin in God. In order to go forward, the soul must also understand that God is Truth, the Light of Truth. St. Teresa clarifies that to walk in truth is to walk in humility. In the final chapter of the 6th Dwelling Place, we enter the room of the Fire of Love and the ardent anguish souls experience in their uncontainable desires for full union with God in Spiritual Marriage. Despite the great pain, much joy and great benefits are experienced. If we love things, we become a thing. If we love nothing, we become nothing. Imitation is not a literal mimicking of Christ, rather it means becoming the image of the beloved, an image disclosed through transformation. This means we are to become vessels of God's compassionate love for others.” ― St. Clare of Assisi Galatians 2:19-20 19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; 20 and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. To understand the Incarnation (the Word made flesh), try this book by Fr. C. Dr. Peter Malinoski and Dr. Gerry Crete read the Sunday Mass Readings for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A. Check out our sister podcast Be With the Word for psychological insights into these readings on where secular psychology gets it wrong.
We can sometimes be carried away in our excitement or anticipation of some future event that we forget that we still have the present moment! After Jesus ascended into heaven, the Apostles went back to the upper room in Jerusalem where they encountered the Risen Christ, and stayed there with Mary and spent their time praying. This praying was not merely an uttering of words once taught, but a relationship — a living relationship with the Living God. Every moment of our lives can be prayer. Every moment — even now in the present moment — God calls out to us and wishes to give to us grace upon grace. Will we invite God into our hearts today, in the here and now?Click here for the Sunday Mass Readings.

https://youtu.be/QbJIv6ady9g Looking for advice on chastity from a Catholic perspective regardless of your state of life? In this episode, top Theology of the Body evangelist, Christopher West, explains how an improper view of Catholic teaching on human sexuality can elicit rebellious reactivity, whereas understanding Pope St. John Paul II's Theology of the Body can inspire joyful excitement about chastity. Using analogies about diet, West explains how we can go from a diet of sexual starvation to feeling satisfied, regardless of one's state in life, simply by correcting our view on sexual morality and acting accordingly. In this episode, besides sharing his own inspirational story from sexual promiscuity to purity, Christopher West tells us: How his presentation of the Theology of the Body has changed since Naked without ShameHow he fell for the "fast food gospel" when he was young as a reaction to the "starvation diet gospel"How Theology of the Body is an invitation to a banquetWhat the difference is between eros and porneaHow he chose and developed his speaking style Why he talks about popular music and media so muchHow when we sin, we are actually looking for something goodWhat's wrong with pornographyThe role of knowing the difference between using and loving in pure Christian courtshipHow a person is indispensable, irreplaceable and unrepeatableHow chastity orients erotic desire towards upholding the dignity of the human personWhy anyone would become a priest or religious if the marital embrace is so beautiful Books by Christopher West from his book store: Theology of the Body for Beginners 2018 Updated and Revised https://shop.corproject.com/collections/books/products/theology-of-the-body-for-beginners Good News About Sex & Marriage 2018 Updated and Revised https://shop.corproject.com/collections/books/products/good-news-about-sex-and-marriage Love Is Patient, But I'm Not (which may have stories he will refer to in answer some of your questions about his growth as an evangelizer) https://shop.corproject.com/collections/books/products/love-is-patient-but-i-m-not-confessions-of-a-recovering-perfectionist Word Made Flesh: A Companion to the Sunday Mass Readings https://shop.corproject.com/collections/books/products/the-word-made-flesh-a-companion-to-the-sunday-readings-cycle-c-pre-order-releases-sept-7-2018 Christopher West's Facebook community information and free course on the practical application of the Theology of the Body: https://community.theologyofthebody.com/freecourse For more information on the show and other resources visit https://healingandpeace.com/blog/.
