Surprised? Then you must be new here. How is planning to take his time and get you into the why of how this all came to be. We have to add, that this episode took an extra week of planning, so apologies for the delay. Throughout this episode, we dive into the early years of Pleasure Island. If you have ever gone, even towards the end, this episode will really give you a good picture as to how this place looked when first opened. The differences, hours, pricing, and so much more will probably surprise you. Some of the offerings that were there opening day very quickly changed, while others ended up sticking around for the duration. The aspect of theme restaurants is discussed, as are the different clubs and how they changed. We even get into a bit of a discussion trying to place ourselves at the various buildings that exist currently, relating to what was once there on the island in 1989. This was a unique time for Walt Disney World as many new offerings were coming online, Pleasure Island being one of them. So stick with us on this one as we take you back to the early years. This area is an entire vacation in itself, housing multiple resorts, restaurants, boating and so much more. If you are a regular to this area or your home resort is over here, this episode will be right up your alley. Most of us have stayed in at least one of these resorts with varying opinions. Throughout this episode, we will get into the history, mindset and much more throughout the era these places were constructed.  Everybody has a part in this episode with Brian starting us off regarding hotel occupancy and why this area was even needed. Throughout the episode, we touch on design and architecture. This was key in the development of the Swan & Dolphin, which created many urban legends, myths and pre-internet 'fan chatter'. We have searched all over for a variety of sources to debunk or prove these rumors, so you won't want to skip these parts as we discuss. Yesterland provided us with some of these details this month, along with lots of digging into newspaper articles from back in this era. The Dolphin has a super unique design, with an almost unusable peak. Learn the secrets of this area and at the same time, take a look at the presidential suite up top!In the past, we have touched on Yacht & Beach Club through various letters and discussions. Going to the Wayback Machine, we found this great site that isn't too vintage, but the pictures scream 1991 by their coloring and also just the old decor of the Yacht/Beach. This site is definitely worth a look, as it is the original from the architect, Robert A.M. Stern. We also discuss how Michael Eisner and how he had his hand in much of this, mostly the Yacht & Beach. Almost two years ago, David Carver reached out to confirm the freshwater fish in Stormalong Bay - he happened to be staying there when they were having issues.  Read the full text right here - thank you David! Any trip to Crescent Lake isn't complete without a visit to the Boardwalk Inn. Our original Boardwalk vacationers give us their take on this resort and we all had one gripe regarding the layout. During this time, we talk about some of the various venues at the Boardwalk, like The Attic and what that is all about. We also get into an amazing discussion with a former tram driver who made his rounds before the Boardwalk arrived. One fun fact of these trams: they used to be the ones that drove guests around Fort Wilderness, which is super cool to hear!  Take a look at this video, which shows the route around the area. Today, Lauren De La Cruz shares the story of her Wedding Pavilion ceremony, Whitehall Room & Patio reception, and Grand Floridian Ballroom cake-cutting and character appearance. Lauren and Timothy originally chose Sea Breeze Point for their ceremony but had to plan an entire backup wedding at the Swan & Dolphin when Disney began canceling weddings due to COVID-19. After Disney confirmed that their October wedding was still on, Lauren & Timothy chose to move to the Wedding Pavilion so they wouldn’t have to wear masks during the ceremony. Today you’ll hear which COVID-19 restrictions were in place and how Disney handled the physically distant character appearance. And Lauren shares tips for planning a reception menu based on favorite theme park dishes, plus her advice for anyone trying to decide whether to postpone their Disney wedding due to the pandemic. Especially if you haven’t been to the parks in a while to know your card is still active in your account. My brother and I were ready at 6am this morning to make our ADRs. We followed the advice for getting hard-to-get ADRs on WDWPrepSchool.com and thought we had everything ready. I was able to work through my list easily with no problems. The tab idea on the website worked wonderfully. My brother was not having the same luck as he was asked to renter his credit card info on his first reservation. While trying it do that, the page froze and wouldn’t reload. He tried again and it froze again. He had to log in using a different browser then re-enter his credit card into his account. From there he was able to start over with trying to make reservations. By this point, I had made all 4 of the ADRs on my list and 2 of them from his list. His credit card was still in his account from his last trip 2.5 years ago, but clearly Disney felt it needed verified. My last trip was 4 months ago so my card must have still been active in the system. This one little hiccup could mean the difference in getting those high priority ADRs. It made me think that I should share a tip on how we booked our room at the Swan for this trip. I was able to get a room there for $160/night using a Priceline Express Deal offer. This saved us $50 a night. For anyone unfamiliar with that, Priceline offers significantly discounted rates on hotels without showing you the name of the hotel you are booking. Hotwire does this, as well. It is a risk, but I did some research and figured out that Disney hotels will be those described as being in the “Walt Disney World - Bonnet Creek” area. The Swan is the only one that is 4.5 stars so I knew that was what I would be getting. I also figured out that Disney hotels appear in these deals and you’ll know because a free airport shuttle is listed as an amenity. No other hotels in the “Walt Disney World - Bonnet creek area” offer free airport shuttles. We really wanted to stay at the Yacht or Beach, but our trip was a last-minute idea for our anniversary and we needed to stay within a certain budget. This Priceline deal helped us do that while still getting something in the Boardwalk area near the Food & Wine Festival."
