NFL Cutdown Day happened on Tuesday, and...it was a little underwhelming? At least in terms of big names changing teams, Cutdown Day didn't really deliver. But we *did* get some pretty big roster news elsewhere, with players who did and didn't wind up going on PUP lists and IR lists. We'll handle that material, we'll read Brian Robinson's *new* Almanac profile, and then we'll have a look at the handicapping market for the NFL in 2025. What team win totals do we like and not like, who do we like to lead the major stat categories, are there player props we like, etc. Fun show! Guest: Chris Raybon from The Action Network. In this week's episode of Not Alone, Valeria and her husband Gary open up about their journey with money, what it symbolized in their childhoods, how they laid everything on the table when they first got together, and the transparency they've had with money ever since. They revisit pivotal moments that tested and strengthened their bond—like the time Gary's big business deal fell through before their wedding and he gave Valeria the chance to walk away. Her response, “never say that to me again,” became a defining moment in their partnership. They talk about how they approach finances in a traditional way—Gary managing everything day-to-day while Valeria leans in with curiosity and questions—and the ways they don't always see eye to eye on how their values were worked out along the way. Together, they share lessons learned, laugh over the “ROI” of Valeria's nutrition degree that unexpectedly sparked her career in content creation, and offer advice for couples who struggle to have honest conversations about money. This episode is both vulnerable and lighthearted, pulling back the curtain on the realities of love, trust, and building a life together. It's another Ticked Off Tuesday, and Jared is back to duet your complaints with gusto! First up, his mom somehow turned “I went to bed early” into a dire medical emergency; nothing like parental concern to turn rest into a diagnosis. We've got a listener fed up with t-shirt cannon “performers” who think they're auditioning for So You Think You Can Dance instead of, you know, actually launching shirts. Another transplant from NYC to Atlanta is shocked to find the real summer villain isn't the humidity, it's indoor workplaces kept at a balmy 81 degrees. Plus, someone's blocking a one-way street with hazards on despite a sea of open parking spots, and Jared's not having it. All that, a few tangents, and the sweet release of shared pettiness.Support our show by clicking below!Support the show, and get 10% off your Hero Bread order. It's Mailbag Monday, and Jared is diving into your dating dilemmas with the precision of a gossip surgeon. First up, a listener had a promising Hinge date lined up, until she sent the “we should probably cancel” text upon realizing he's a recent ex of her friend. Did the ex wave her off, or is this just modern dating's efficiency mode kicking in? Then, a post-volleyball romance that's stuck in the Thursday-night-after-the-game loop, with zero movement toward a real plan. Jared breaks down why “make a plan and I'm in” should be your new mantra, and why vague dating purgatory is the enemy of progress. Plus, a few tangents, some travel gripes, and the occasional unsolicited Woody Allen quote!Support the show, and get 10% off your Hero Bread order. "I love this sport and I love the people in it. I love the people I race against. I love all the fans. People are wonderful." Fresh off her U.S. Outdoor National Championships 10,000m win, fan favorite Emily Infeld returns to the Ali on the Run Show to talk about winning her first national title at age 35, 13 years into her professional career. Ten years ago, Emily made her first World Championships team, and went on to win a bronze medal in the 10,000m on the world stage. The next year, she made her first Olympic team, and competed at the Games in Rio. Then, Emily had a string of tough years and struggles, including injuries, surgeries, changing teams, changing coaches, changing locations, changing sponsors, and navigating a three-year ordeal with a stalker. Today, Emily is happy, healthy, and breaking the tape. She lives in Portland, OR, with her husband, Max. She's sponsored by Brooks, after 12 years with Nike. And she's coached once again by her college coach, Chris Miltenberg. In this conversation, Emily talks about what it took to unleash that kick in the homestretch and to break the tape at a National Championship. Chip Conley is the founder of Joie de Vivre hotels, the second-largest boutique hotel brand in the world. At age 52, he joined Airbnb as Head of Global Hospitality and Strategy, reporting to CEO Brian Chesky, who was 21 years younger. He earned the title of Airbnb's “Modern Elder” by guiding the young founders on leadership and culture while learning Silicon Valley's tech mindset himself. Today, Chip leads the Modern Elder Academy, the world's first midlife wisdom school, and is the author of best-selling books like Wisdom@Work and Peak. He champions the idea that age and experience are assets—and that midlife can be a launchpad for renewed purpose and impact. In this conversation, we discuss:1. The reality of Brian Chesky in “founder mode”—the good, bad, and stressful2. How Chip went from running 52 boutique hotels to becoming Airbnb's in-house mentor in his 50s3. The “mentor and intern” mindset: how to simultaneously teach others and stay curious like a beginner4. Why AI might actually favor older workers (hint: human wisdom vs. artificial intelligence)5. Jared is here from Bloomington, Indiana, ready to co-sign your pettiest complaints and maybe even make them worse (in a good way). This week, he dives into the viral CEO cheating scandal at a Coldplay concert, because nothing screams New England drama like getting caught on the kiss cam. Jared rants about self-appointed TikTok “reporters” and the internet's obsession with schadenfreude, while also sharing why this whole saga just makes him sad. Listener gripes include the absurdity of 45-minute train delays that never actually happen, doctors hogging all the close parking spots while nine-month-pregnant women waddle across the lot, and the nerve of people demanding free handmade crafts from a hobbyist. Plus, Jared settles a family debate about whether DMing a comedian is “weird” or just enthusiastic fandom. It's a full lineup of complaints, laughs, and hot takes you didn't know you needed.Get 20% off your first Vuori purchase at https://www.vuori.com/JTRAIN

Mailbag Monday is here, and Jared is fresh from Bloomington, Indiana, ready to dive into your life dilemmas straight from his inbox! This week, he tackles a “petite” dating conundrum: should you keep seeing someone when the sparks (and kisses) just aren't cutting it? Plus, Jared goes off on a tangent about words, body image, and why no man wants to be called “petite” (spoiler: it hits harder than you think). We also get into the weirdness of offering friendship right after a date, and Jared breaks down how to kindly say “thanks, but no thanks.” Later, a coffee shop drama brews when a listener gets banned from chatting with baristas during a soft opening. Was the owner out of line? Jared's got thoughts, some strong opinions, and plenty of laughs in between. In this special encore episode of The Voice of Retail, recorded live at the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, host Michael LeBlanc is joined by longtime Remarkable Retail #podcast collaborator and retail thought leader Steve Dennis to celebrate the launch of Steve's latest book, Leaders Leap: Transforming Your Company at the Speed of Disruption.Best known for his bestselling book Remarkable Retail, Steve steps outside the retail-specific lens to explore a broader question: Why do leaders and companies fail to transform—even when they know they must? Drawing on personal experiences at iconic retailers like Sears and Neiman Marcus, Steve shares how legacy mindsets, fear of risk, and "timid transformations" can doom even the most well-intentioned strategies. He recalls a pivotal moment at Sears when, after 18 months of strategic planning and board approval, a colleague remarked that the new plan was “not a strategy to win—just a strategy to suck less.”From there, the conversation dives into the key themes of Leaders Leap, including Steve's concept of “leadership mind leaps”—seven fundamental shifts that leaders must make to truly drive meaningful transformation. These include “Crush Your Ego,” “Open the Aperture,” “Edit to Amplify,” “Start with Wow,” “Think Radically,” “Embrace the Risk of Inaction,” and “Accelerate with Urgency.” Each leap challenges conventional leadership norms and encourages leaders to rethink their roles in the face of fast-paced disruption.Steve and Michael discuss why merely optimizing the business model isn't enough in an age defined by exponential change, and how legacy brands can learn from disruptors like Uber, Airbnb, and Netflix—companies that pivoted boldly and often. Using examples from RH (formerly Restoration Hardware) and Vuori, the episode highlights how focus, differentiation, and bold thinking can enable even established players to reinvent themselves. This episode is a masterclass in leadership transformation for retailers and executives across sectors. Whether you're a C-suite veteran, a team leader, or an entrepreneur navigating disruption, this conversation offers both strategic frameworks and personal insight that can help you leap forward, not fall behind. Michael LeBlanc is the president and founder of M.E. LeBlanc & Company Inc, a senior retail advisor, keynote speaker and now, media entrepreneur. He has been on the front lines of retail industry change for his entire career. Michael has delivered keynotes, hosted fire-side discussions and participated worldwide in thought leadership panels, most recently on the main stage in Toronto at Retail Council of Canada's Retail Marketing conference with leaders from Walmart & Google. He brings 25+ years of brand/retail/marketing & eCommerce leadership experience with Levi's, Black & Decker, Hudson's Bay, CanWest Media, Pandora Jewellery, The Shopping Channel and Retail Council of Canada to his advisory, speaking and media practice.Michael produces and hosts a network of leading retail trade podcasts, including the award-winning No.1 independent retail industry podcast in America, Remarkable Retail with his partner, Dallas-based best-selling author Steve Dennis; Canada's top retail industry podcast The Voice of Retail and Canada's top food industry and one of the top Canadian-produced management independent podcasts in the country, The Food Professor with Dr. Sylvain Charlebois from Dalhousie University in Halifax.Rethink Retail has recognized Michael as one of the top global retail experts for the fifth year in a row, the National Retail Federation has designated Michael as on their Top Retail Voices for 2025, Thinkers 360 has named him on of the Top 50 global thought leaders in retail, RTIH has named him a top 100 global though leader in retail technology and Coresight Research has named Michael a Retail AI Influencer. If you are a BBQ fan, you can tune into Michael's cooking show, Last Request BBQ, on YouTube, Instagram, X and yes, TikTok.Michael is available for keynote presentations helping retailers, brands and retail industry insiders explaining the current state and future of the retail industry in North America and around the world.
In this Season 10 finale of The Remarkable Retail Podcast, Steve interviews Vuori CEO & Founder Joe Kudla live on-stage during the closing keynote of the CommerceNext Growth Show in New York. Steve and Michael also are on-stage for a session gleaning the top retail trends of the year so far and set the stage for what's most important to focus on the balance of the year.Instead of covering the week's headlines, Michael and Steve zoom out to examine the trends that have defined the year thus far. Tariff turbulence remains the dominant storyline, with the July 9th extension deadline looming and limited trade progress made—raising uncertainty about supply chains, pricing, and margins. Retailers are already grappling with rising costs and making difficult decisions about whether to absorb the impact through vendor, consumer, or margin adjustments. They spotlight a troubling acceleration in store closures, forecasting 2025 as a record year for retail contraction, particularly in drugstore and department store categories. Meanwhile, growth continues to concentrate, with Amazon, Walmart, and Costco accounting for over half of all incremental retail gains. Smaller out-performers, such as Vuori and Abercrombie, stand out, but the middle is collapsing through a combination of unremarkable business designs and lackluster execution. The hosts also analyze the contrasting fortunes of Walmart's soaring apparel success versus Target's continued slump and reflect on emerging disruption from agentic AI—potentially reshaping how consumers search, shop, and connect with brands. With luxury contraction predicted for the first time in 15 years and labor dynamics in flux, retailers face a complex and volatile landscape. Then, it's over to an on-stage interview with Vuori CEO & Founder Joe Kudla, who joins Steve live for the closing keynote at the CommerceNext Growth Show in New York City for a candid and inspirational conversation about scaling a lifestyle brand with purpose. Joe shares how Vuori—rooted in the beachside town of Encinitas, California—pivoted from a near-collapse to a $5.5 billion valuation last year, thanks to an obsessive focus on product quality, fabric innovation, and deep community connection.Kudla walks listeners through Vuori's growth strategy: starting with DTC success, expanding to wholesale, and now operating over 80 physical stores—each serving as a local brand hub. He discusses how in-person retail drives stronger omni-channel customers and why authenticity in influencer partnerships is more important than ever in a crowded media landscape. As Vuori expands globally with new stores in London, Shanghai, and Seoul, Joe remains grounded in his role as the brand's chief product evangelist and men's fit model. His leadership lesson? Stay vulnerable, stay curious, and always lead with great products. In this powerful episode, Mike Meldman — real estate mogul, co-founder of Casamigos Tequila, and founder of Discovery Land Company — shares the remarkable story behind his journey from instinct-driven entrepreneur to one of the most influential figures in luxury real estate and lifestyle branding. Mike dives deep into how Casamigos, a tequila brand originally created with George Clooney “just for fun,” skyrocketed from a personal project to a billion-dollar business — despite having no plans for mass distribution. From there, he walks us through the origin and explosive growth of Discovery Land Company, a visionary take on private communities built around service, family, and meaningful experiences — not just golf. One of his standout projects, Kukio in Hawaii, started with an underwhelming plot of lava rock but became one of the most successful resort communities in the U.S., selling $50 million worth of real estate in just 90 days. Mike reveals how a courthouse bidding war with Mitsubishi, unconventional thinking, and meticulous attention to member experience helped make Kukio what it is today. But his ambition didn't stop there. Mike also discusses his 7.5% ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders, the importance of choosing the right people to surround yourself with, and how he's used strategic investments in companies like Vuori (valued today at $7 billion) to expand his brand's reach far beyond real estate. He speaks candidly about the challenges he's faced — including the emotional toll of two failed marriages — and reflects on what truly matters: family, discipline, integrity, and giving back. Through the Discovery Land Company Foundation, Mike supports children's charities and community development around each of his projects, making sure that luxury living doesn't come at the cost of social impact. This episode is more than a conversation — it's a blueprint for anyone who wants to build something iconic from scratch, stay grounded while chasing massive success, and leave behind a legacy that matters. In the latest episode of the Remarkable Retail podcast, co-hosts Steve Dennis and Michael LeBlanc return with Part Two of “The Analysts," which featues three of the retail industry's most respected thought leaders—Sucharita Kodali (VP & Principal Analyst, Forrester Research), Neil Saunders (Managing Director, GlobalData Retail), and Simeon Siegel (Managing Director, BMO Capital Markets). But first, Michael and Steve unpack a news cycle packed with volatility. They begin by exploring the ripple effects of renewed Middle East conflict and its impact on oil prices, inflation, and economic sentiment. From there, the duo tackle the Trump administration's intensifying immigration enforcement and its chilling effect on the U.S. labor force—particularly in agriculture, hospitality, and retail. Shoppers are anxious, workers are disappearing, and companies are bracing for cost spikes. The episode then zooms into earnings season, with fresh data from RH (Restoration Hardware), Inditex (Zara), and Victoria's Secret. RH defies expectations with revenue gains despite a sluggish home goods sector, while Zara and Victoria's Secret warn of tariff-related turbulence ahead. Steve and Michael also sound the alarm on a string of cyberattacks, including the Victoria's Secret hack and a Whole Foods supplier breach, painting a stark picture of retail's digital vulnerabilities. Then it's time for “The Analysts” segment. Sucharita Kodali explains the hype—and the misunderstanding—around Agentic AI, warning retailers of its disintermediating potential if shopping bots take hold. The panel weigh in on the future of department stores, urging traditional retailers to rethink their value proposition, especially as beauty shifts to standalone players like Sephora, Blue Mercury, and Ulta. From TikTok's uncertain future to retail media network fatigue, the lightning round keeps the insights flowing with wit and depth. The panel also lifts up up-and-coming remarkable brands like Vuori, Alo Yoga, and Eleventy as ones to watch. “She said, ‘This is how it was supposed to be. This is how it was supposed to feel.' And at that moment, I realized the magnitude of what we gave to each other.” Rerun alert! In honor of the 129th Boston Marathon in just a few days, we're throwing it back to 2022, when fan favorite and beloved Peloton instructor Jess Sims surprised the world by showing up at the start (and finish!) line of the Boston Marathon. And she had a good reason for keeping her marathon debut on the down-low. In this very special conversation, Jess talks about receiving a fateful message from Boston Marathon bombing survivor Michele Blackburn — a message that ultimately guided Jess every step of the way toward that finish line on Boylston Street. Jess talks about her training, about how she felt on the start line, and about why she still feels marathon imposter syndrome, even after earning that blue and yellow medal.
