One of the highlights of this week's New Brunswick Spirits Festival was the food and whisky pairings created by The Spirited Chef, Taylore Darnell. She and the staff at the Delta Fredericton created spirited breakfasts, lunches, and dinners featuring unique combinations of food and whisky. We'll talk with Chef Taylore about matching food to whisky and how our senses perceive those combinations on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, there's a new world record for the most expensive bottle of whisky ever sold at auction, and American single malt makers are still waiting for an official definition for their whiskies.

What an HONOR it was to be seated in the presence of Maverick Rodriguez (@maverickxrodriguez) for this very special episode of Extra..Ordinary. From getting her team's ass kicked by Maverick's team in basketball, to thinking he hated her existence, Taylore has a long list of things to go over. As a transgender individual, Maverick wastes no time shedding his skin and speaking on his experiences with finding his identity throughout his life, even through hardships and the bullshit that is High School. Taylore and Maverick dive into their shared childhood experiences of being in the Gifted and Talented program, school bullies, and Maverick's, seemingly out of nowhere, show-stopping audition for a high school play their junior year. As two people who have grown and evolved since they first met in second grade, they discuss how nice it is to re-meet each other in the Now as the human beings they've become, rather than the ones they used to be.*This episode has no intro and no Tay's Faves. Taylore thought that because this episode is so informative and important for the world to hear, her narratives aren't the voice that needs to be the loudest here.*
In Episode #82, we met Jeremy Keck as a patient born with L-TGA and DILV treated with Fontan procedure. Now, in this very special episode, we meet Jeremy Keck beyond his heart disease through the eyes of his loving wife Ana Keck. His legacy underscores the importance of seeing our patients as people beyond their illness, in the context of their lives, values, and loved ones. In a very intimate and courageous way, Jacob walks through his recent suicide attempt and the aftermath of what that was like for him and the people around him, as well as all he would have missed out on had his life ended that day. This week, Kate deep dives into Taylor Swift's surprise 8th studio album: Folklore. This album has everything; cardigans, soothing somber melodies, indie-rock flair, clandestine meetings and stolen stares. She walks through her favorite lyrics, the standout themes, the [somewhat limited, relatively speaking] Easter Eggs we know about, among many other Taylore-related tangents. In this podforsaken mess of an episode, she also meanders through what she deems to be the broader symbolism of the concept of folklore at this point in her career, how it ties to Miss Americana, and how this album is somehow both the most and least 'her' thing all at the same time. In lieu of a part 2, this episode is extra lengthy and detailed by design for those of you that are looking for a friend to talk TS with while social distancing. The season finale of Chapter One! As a way to wrap up your time and emotions spent on listening, Taylore dedicates an episode to happy and funny stories. (Wouldn't want to drain the life out of you, right?) The most waited-for story of all, though, is that of meeting her surrogate father, Dax Shepard on Ellen, why it meant so much to her, and her experience through that surreal and beautiful day in her life. She talks about what she's looking forward to in her future, and the future of Extra..Ordinary; where we go from here.
In the second-to-last episode of the season, Taylore discusses her darkest times in life around her struggle with mental health and addiction. "Fathers Be Good to Your Daughters / daughters will live like you do." In the most raw and vulnerable episode of Extra..Ordinary yet, Taylore brings us along on a journey as she recounts her experience with having an abusive father. She recounts how incredibly in-love she was with him, and how all she wanted was to receive his unattainable love. Through the pain, suffering and trauma, Taylore removes all masks in this episode, laying it out for us in a true, and honest way. TRIGGER WARNING: This episode goes into heavy detail about domestic violence and child abuse instances. Please take care of yourself and others while listening.
Mothers and daughters; perhaps one of the most difficult relationship dynamics in our world. Taylore carries us through her 21-year long struggle with finding understanding with her own mother, and why she made the wrong choice is choosing which parent to copy-cat as a child. Placing blame on her mother, she discusses why she felt the need to push her mom away, and how their relationship has matured since. *******TW: This episode has a brief part in speaking about domestic violence. If you are someone who may not be in the right headspace to listen to those details, I highly encourage you to maybe sit this one out. I love you regardless. *********
We all make bad choices, as Taylore reiterates. She takes us back to a time in which she was making constant bad choices - in life, and with the people she surrounded herself with. Trying to help us understand the "why," Taylore discusses how her abandonment issues had her always searching for someone to keep in her life, her fantasy of being in a "real family", and how that mindset turned her into a different person all-together. What bad-friend was the turning point for her to change?
As a child who had been abused by a man, Taylore goes over her setbacks when it came to finally coming "online" to the world of boys. She emphasizes her extreme fear of having to talk to boys, the mistakes she made when it came to choosing boys, and why she felt so excluded from them. Taylore speaks from the heart about the time she finally chose correctly, and her experience with being in love with someone who really loved her back. Expressing how she feels today about them, Boys, Boys, Boys is all about - exactly that.
In the Premiere episode, an anxious Taylore discusses her struggle with finding her physical and emotional voice as a shy kid, and how becoming involved with theatre changed the direction of her life. She exposes the consequences she faced from not being able to "Speak Up!" in life, including almost being expelled in middle school. While discussing her goals in starting this podcast, Taylore discloses how hard it is sometimes to open yourself up to people, and hopes to change that for herself starting with Extra..Ordinary.

Shift The Plan | Where It Is Never Too Late To Change The Game
Taylore is founder of TayloreMade, LLC In 3.5 years, she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications graduating at the age of 20. She purchased her first home by 21 and second home by 25. Taylore has spent the last five years growing Ashtae Products while teaching seminars to both young and middle-age adults about small business growth hacking and social media marketing strategies. In her spare time, she manages 7 residential properties through her property management business. Michael and Ramona Woods have been married for over 22 years and are the parents of two daughters Taylore and Ashley. In 1994, the couple co-founded Ashtae Products, Inc, a multicultural hair care distribution company that sells products to beauty salon across the US, Canada, and Caribbean Islands. In 1994, Michael and Ramona Woods, President/CEO and Vice President/CFO respectively, decided to take their experience and passion for the beauty industry to a new level. They recognized the need for a multi-cultural hair care company that served professional salons with high quality products and education. Most of all, the couple sought to help future clients grow their own businesses and prosper. So the couple began their quest by mortgaging their home and sacrificing personal items to raise the necessary cash to start their multicultural hair care brand ASHTAE. The company, Ashtae, is named after their two daughters, Ashley and Taylore. As difficult as it was in the early years of the company, Michael and Ramona never lost sight of their vision. They began by distributing their high quality hair care products from a barn behind their home. Mistakes made during the youth of the company taught them lessons that they now share with other new businesses. Their passion lies in helping people to balance family, faith and finances in order to reach their full potential. ______ Shiftmakers to look out for: Andrew Nguyen @Brandwithdrew ______ Connect: IG: Instagram: @ohemgeetaylore / @theramonawoods Facebook: @ohemgeetaylore Website: www.taylorewoods.com Website: https://www.michaelandramonawoods.com ______ Share, Subscribe, and Leave a Review ______ Shift The Plan - @shifttheplanpodcast Rhonda D. Taylore's provocative IlluminEssensce® technology (which received a U.S. patent) helps her clients feel outrageously confident, look outrageously attractive and become outrageously successful. IlluminEssensce® is NOT about “getting your colors done.” In fact, it is not based on color at all; it is based on vibration (a.k.a. quantum physics!) and there's absolutely nothing else like it on the planet. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/scott-ware/support
