When testifying at his trial, Teddy Kyle Smith said he thought he was shooting Enukins in self-defense when he fired his rifle at Chuck and Paul Buckel. Few believed him, but his testimony highlighted the inequalities of jury selection in rural Alaska. Sources My primary source for this article was the Audible Original production of Midnight Son by James Dommek Jr. I highly recommend this three-hour audiobook. For children all around the world, Saint Nicholas is the ultimate consolation prize - a way of letting kids down easy when they find out that *psst* Santa isn't real! But, we tell them, there was a Santa Claus, long long ago! And thus the story of Saint Nicholas, the 4th century Bishop of Myra, who became legendary for his generosity and care for children, lets modern kids hang on to that little bit of magic that Santa Claus had brought into the world for the earliest years of their lives. Which is great! But...are we sure? Because, as it turns out, the deeper we dig into the story of St. Nick, the more we find a phantom, a shadow, with very little connection to history. And so, this week, the week of St. Nicholas's beloved feast day, we ask Joey Lewandowski and Teddy Smith that question - should we believe in Saint Nicholas, and what, if anything, changes if we come to the conclusion that he, like his modern counterpart, is little more than fantasy?

Look, it's been a heavy string of Hard to Believe episodes, and as fun as it is to talk about conspiracy cults and death and Shakespeare, it requires a lot of research and prep and, to be honest, John was exhausted. And it's summertime, and summer is for fun. So John invited 2 Fast 2 Forever's Joey Lewandowski and frequent guest Teddy Smith for the dumbest, weirdest, and most fun story we've ever covered: that time Nicolas Cage tried to find the Holy Grail. Check out Joey's new book club podcast, how to win the lottery. Check out Teddy's car show, A Valiant Effert. If you don't know who Nicolas Cage is I can't help you.
HBO's recent docuseries Into the Storm, directed by Cullen Hoback, manages to accomplish what no other Q-themed documentary had - "unmasking" the man behind Q and his closest accomplices. While the culprit came as a surprise to almost no one who closely followed the QAnon phenomenon, Hoback's deeply personal portrait of the father-son Watkins duo, as well as 8-Chan founder Fred Brennan, remains an important journalistic and storytelling exercise. But the problem with the series has less to do with the Hoback's work and more with the response, as many viewers seem to have been lulled into a fall sense of security, assuming that now we know, for sure, who was behind Q, the coast is clear. John invited his colleague and frequent guest Teddy Smith to watch the series and help him unpack all this. Check out Teddy's new YouTube show, A Valiant Effert. You may recognize the opening music.

In his town hall appearance on NBC, Donald Trump insisted "I know nothing about QAnon" - a network of conspiracy theorists whose Twitter accounts he has retweeted hundreds of times and who have appeared multiple times in his intelligence briefings - before offering something he knew about QAnon ("I do know they are very much against pedophilia"). QAnon is bad. It's dangerous and scary and alarming. It's also complicated and hard to explain. And so John invited three of his smartest friends and former guests – Mike Manzi, Teddy Smith, and Jess Collins – to find out what they knew about QAnon and to tell them what he think everyone needs to know. HASHTAG TRUST THE PLAN!! Check out Teddy's band Bugs in the Corner (who wrote the theme song to this podcast), Jess's website, and Mike's CageClub page! Clifford Jordan is from Chicago and is a graduate of the legendary DuSable High School music program. Many many famous musicians and performers graduated from this school and the music program was under the venerable Captain Walter Dyett who taught, reading, discipline, tone and ability to blend with other instruments. Jordan worked with Horace Silver, Max Roach, J.J. Johnson and Charles Mingus and others and recorded a whole series of albums under his own name for many labels. Jordan was one of the most distinctive and easily recognizable tenor saxophonists that Modern Jazz ever produced. Tonight is one of his most personal albums. Jordan is the only horn and he is backed by a free flowing rhythm section with the great Cedar Walton on piano and Teddy Smith on bass, a newcomer to New York at the time of this recording in 1961/62. The open and very individual drumming of J.C. Moses makes this rhythm section distinctive and gives it that free and floating quality. The album is called "Bearcat" (named for a wrestler friend of Jordan's: "Bearcat" Wright) and it contains 5 Jordan originals, all memorable and melodic. One standard and one Jazz standard is included. This is a fine date by Jordan and one of his best.
NYC comedian Teddy Smith joins us on episode 28 and tells us about having a 9-year-old, 150-pound roommate, getting a standing ovation at the legendary Apollo Theater and how people being nice is actually more surprising to him than people being mean. A good, funny listen. Recorded every Tuesday afternoon at the World Famous Comic Strip Live in Manhattan's Upper East Side. WARNING: This track has explicit content. Dustin,Kyle and guests discuss race, sex and comedy history...
This most personal statement from this great Chicago-born tenor saxophonist, Clifford Jordan, is even more unique because all the tunes save for the standard, "How Deep is the Ocean?", and Tom McIntosh's tune "Malice Towards None" are all written by Jordan. His great sound and individual approach to the tenor is evident here, his high keening sound and blues inflected concept works beautifully. Jordan's main influence was Sonny Rollins but by the time of this recording in late 1961, Jordan was his own man. He's backed here by pianist Cedar Walton. They had met when they were a part of trombonist J.J.Johnson's short-lived sextet of 1960-61. Walton understands Jordan's bright clear ideas and is in tune with Jordan's rhythmic concept. The late Teddy Smith is on bass. Teddy had just arrived on the New York scene and worked very well with drummer J.C. Moses in providing a loose but very solid foundation for Jordan and Walton. This music is firm and rooted in Jazz tradition but has some new and wonderfully innovative properties as well and is an important statement by one of the finest tenor saxophonists to grace the planet.
