Oh Kylian Mbappé, we've seen this one before. Despite another fantastic hat-trick, it was Mbappé and Real Madrid who fell to a 4-3 defeat in El Clásico. It means that Barcelona are set to complete a spectacular double in Hansi Flick's first season in charge. Just how impressive a feat is that for the German?Plus, Borussia Dortmund are set to complete the most remarkable comeback to reach the Champions League places, but how did Niko Kovač get them back on track? And more chaos follows in the footsteps of Lyon. Could missing out on the Champions League be catastrophic for the French side?Join Dotun, Andy and Lars Sivertsen as they discuss the latest across European football.Ask us a question on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, and email us here: otc@footballramble.com.For ad-free shows, head over to our Patreon and subscribe: patreon.com/footballramble.***Please take the time to rate and review us on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods. Jason Longshore and Madison Crews talk about 3 local stories, 4 headlines from around the world, and 3 things in soccer that make them smile. It's the 3-4-3 from the 5.13 edition of Atlanta Soccer Tonight.
Alexi Lalas and David Mosse are fired up as American stars continue to make waves in Italy. Christian Pulisic delivered a goal and assist in AC Milan's 3-1 win over Bologna, while Weston McKennie set up Randal Kolo Muani in Juventus' draw with Lazio. The Serie A title race is heating up, with just one point separating Inter Milan and Napoli. In the Netherlands, PSV moved closer to securing the title after a comeback win over Feyenoord, with Malik Tillman and Richard Ledezma starting. Over in Germany, Dortmund crashed Xabi Alonso's farewell match, as his Real Madrid future comes into focus. After the fourth El Clásico of the season, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti officially announced he's headed to coach Brazil. Despite a hat trick from Mbappé, it was Lamine Yamal and Raphinha who powered Barcelona to victory. Where does Yamal stack up in the Ballon d'Or conversations? Back home, MLS delivered drama: Philly and Columbus drew in a top-of-the-table showdown, Diego Luna bagged his 7th goal in 11 matches, Minnesota dominated Inter Miami, and Brian White notched a brace to lift Vancouver. In #AskAlexi, the guys discuss the LA Galaxy possibly moving on from Greg Vanney and dive into the costs of World Cup tickets. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.Atlanta United came back to level their match at Soldier Field on Saturday, forcing an own goal, but then conceded a late winner to lose in Chicago. Go back and listen to the conversations I had with Ronny Deila and Ronald Hernandez after the match, the frustration is felt by everyone at the moment and they've got to find a way to turn that around quickly as they're next on the pitch in Austin on Wednesday (with gameday high temps set for 106) and back home to face Philadelphia on Saturday.Minnesota dealt Miami their 4th loss in their last 5 games, and barely had the ball in doing so. Danny Musovski in rarefied air for Seattle with goals in five straight games for the Sounders, scoring in their 3-1 win at Houston. NY Red Bulls defeated LA Galaxy 7-0 Saturday night, the worst ever loss for the Galaxy in their 30-year history.Vancouver, after their comeback 2-2 draw against LAFC last night, leads the Supporters' Shield race in MLS while Atlanta is in the bottom five in the league standings. A Classic El Clásico as Barcelona defeated Real Madrid for the fourth time this season, the first time that's been done since 1983. Madrid scored twice in the first 15 minutes through Kylian Mbappe, whose hat trick was wasted, but Barcelona had taken a 3-2 lead 20 minutes after his second goal and then added a 4th before halftime. The second half saw Mbappe complete his hat trick, a number of controversial referee decisions, and Barcelona celebrate essentially winning the league title as they only need one more point in their remaining matches. The managerial carousel is spinning in Madrid, as we expected. Fabrizio Romano reporting this morning that the deal is done for Xabi Alonso to join Real Madrid, and it will happen in time for the FIFA Club World Cup this summer. It will be a three-year contract. The semifinals are set in Mexico's Clausura as Club America will face Cruz Azul and Tigres will face Toluca. Alex Zendejas scored both goals in Las Aguilas win to set up another Mexico City derby, he has to be part of the USMNT this summer as he's had another strong season for Club America. Crazy scenes at the end of the Nottingham Forest 2-2 draw with Leicester as confusion over a late substitution and injury led to sort-of owner Evangelos Marinakis going out on the field and yelling at manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Bad look, but jumping to say that Nuno should resign over it was also over the top. Inter has cut Napoli's lead in Serie A down to one point after winning in a thunderstorm at Torino while Napoli was held to a draw by Genoa in Naples. Plenty more in the Espresso video and audio forms including my thoughts on the whistles at Trent Alexander-Arnold in Liverpool, the dangers of fan-led pitch invasions in celebration, and the risks of pregame and postgame social media trash talk from clubs. More Espresso tomorrow on the SDH Network, presented by our friends at Oglethorpe University.
Morning Footy: A daily soccer podcast from CBS Sports Golazo Network
Another electric El Clásico is in the books, and the Morning Footy crew is here to break it all down. Barcelona have now beaten Real Madrid four times this season, and Hansi Flick's young, fearless squad is starting to look like something special. So how high can this team fly? Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé may be delivering the goals for Real Madrid, but questions are mounting about the supporting cast. With the forward line looking disjointed, the crew digs into what Los Blancos must do in the transfer window to restore balance in the squad. It's a game that needs no introduction, but there's plenty of narrative coming into this one. BARCELONA just lost the greatest cup tie of all time to Inter Milan in a Champions League semifinal. REAL MADRID are enduring a horror season by their standards, culminating with a Copa del Rey final defeat to their Catalan enemies that had them going ballistic on the referee. That makes the two contestants in El Clásico a pair of wounded animals, though Barcelona have the consolation of that cup final victory and a very good chance to wrap up La Liga with a win here. Madrid have no such comfort, and all they can do is beat their greatest rivals to keep the title race alive. Which of these two can shake off the emotional baggage in time to win the biggest match in club football? Here to help us answer that question ahead of kickoff on Sunday (10:15am ET, 3:15pm UK) is Dan Hilton of The Barcelona Podcast. If you're enjoying the show, please leave us a rating and review!
