===== MDJ Script/ Top Stories for December 12th Publish Date: December 12th Commercial: From the BG AD Group Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. Today is Friday, December 12th and Happy Birthday to Frank Sinatra I’m Keith Ippolito and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Times Journal Pedestrian safety improvements coming to south Cobb Gateway Marietta CID seeks public input on 12 projects The Georgia Ballet Presents: The Nutcracker Plus, Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on milk As well as Shane Delancey the Director of the Christmas Tradition at the Strand Theatre All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! Now here is Shane Delancey the Director of the Christmas Tradition at the Strand Theatre BREAK: THE STRAND STORY 1: Pedestrian safety improvements coming to south Cobb Cobb County’s making moves to keep pedestrians safer in south Cobb, tackling two big projects: a pedestrian bridge near Factory Shoals Road and new bollards at Mableton Town Square Park. Let’s start with Factory Shoals. That bridge over I-20? Built in 1963, and, well, it shows. No sidewalks, no bike lanes—just a narrow shoulder that’s barely walkable. Commissioner Monique Sheffield said it’s been a problem for years, especially for folks working at nearby businesses. Now, the county’s greenlit a plan for a new pedestrian bridge alongside the old one, connecting sidewalks on both sides. And Mableton Park? Bollards are coming to stop cars from driving onto the grounds—because, yes, that’s been happening. STORY 2: Gateway Marietta CID seeks public input on 12 projects The Gateway Marietta CID wants your thoughts—yes, yours—on 12 infrastructure projects they’re planning. These aren’t just random ideas; they’re focused on Franklin Gateway, South Marietta Parkway, and Delk Road. What’s on the table? Everything from streetscapes and trails to bridge replacements and new road connections. Some projects, like the Rottenwood Creek Trail extension ($20 million!) and Franklin Gateway bridge rebuild, are already in motion. Others, like adding Gateway signage or narrowing roads for multiuse trails, are still in the “what do you think?” phase. Your input will help shape what gets prioritized. Got opinions? Take the survey before the master plan wraps next year. Visit engage.publiccoordinate.com/en/project/gateway-marietta-cid-project-prioritization. STORY 3: The Georgia Ballet Presents: The Nutcracker The Georgia Ballet’s The Nutcracker is back, running Dec. 18–23 at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre, and it’s bringing all the holiday magic you’d expect—plus a little extra sparkle this year. Here’s the twist: they’ve teamed up with Hamp & Harry’s, a Marietta Square favorite, to add some festive flair. Think Nutcracker-themed cocktails (yes, there’s wine and beer too) in the lobby before the show and during intermission. The ballet itself? Pure enchantment. Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, Clara’s midnight adventure, snowflakes, sweets, and Daet Rodriguez’s choreography. There’s even a Sensory-Friendly performance on Dec. 18—perfect for kids or anyone needing a gentler experience. Tickets start at $23. Don’t wait. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. We’ll be right back. Break: Villa Rica Wonderland Train STORY 4: North Cobb Christian student wins statewide essay contest North Cobb Christian seventh-grader Samille Shy just snagged first place in Georgia for her essay, “What Is Patriotism to Me?”—a big win in the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen contest, which had over 120,000 entries nationwide. Samille’s take on patriotism? It’s about giving back. She wrote about volunteering at a food pantry, helping out at The Humane Society, singing with her school chorus on Veterans Day, and being part of the Sea Cadet Corps. The Georgia VFW loved it, awarding her top honors. Next stop? The regional competition. Not bad for a middle schooler, huh? STORY 5: McEachern rolls into state championship game Every time McEachern scores, the announcer calls out the updated score. And when the opponent has zero? Oh, the crowd lives for it. They stretch it out—“zerooooooo”—like it’s a victory chant. They’ve had plenty of practice. Over the last two seasons, McEachern’s flag football team has gone 51-2, allowing just 2.9 points per game with 35 shutouts. Monday was no different. The Indians blanked Lithia Springs 19-0, then crushed North Forsyth 33-0 to punch their ticket to the state championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Now, McEachern heads to the championship, chasing back-to-back titles. GEORGIA TECH: No. 22 Georgia Tech is heading to the Pop-Tarts Bowl to take on No. 12 BYU on Saturday, Dec. 27, at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Kickoff’s at 3:30 p.m., and you can catch it live on ABC. This marks Tech’s third straight bowl trip—something they haven’t pulled off since 2012-14—and their 48th all-time, which ranks 14th in college football history. With a 9-3 record, it’s their best regular season since 2014. BYU (11-2) comes in hot, despite two losses to Texas Tech. It’s a ranked-vs.-ranked showdown, Tech’s first since the 2014 Orange Bowl. History’s on their side—they’re 2-0 in this bowl. I'm Keith Ippolito and that’s your MDJ Sports Minute. Let's breakdown the recent hires in IndyCar of the sanctioning body, the latest with Prema, and how Notre Dame could turn down the best bowl ever, the Pop Tarts Bowl!
Hour one of DJ & PK for Decmeber 12, 2025: Aaron Roderick and Jay Hill, BYU Football Berry Tramel, Tulsa World Frank Dolce, Former Utah Quarterback
In the aftermath of Notre Dame being left out of the college football playoff they continue to be the most talked about story in sports. Continued conversation about them joining a conference and reactions to them turning down an invite to the Pop Tarts Bowl dominates the airwaves. Which begs the question. If Notre Dame is so irrelevant, then why does everyone keep talking about them?
Chaos reigns in college football! In this episode, Kevin and Ciarnan dive into Notre Dame's controversial decision to opt out of a bowl game after missing the playoff, sparking debates on whether ND is the most coddled brand in the sport. Hear a passionate Notre Dame fan's defense and plenty of pushback from the hosts, including takes on conference membership, bowl opt-outs, and the lost shot at Pop-Tarts Bowl glory. The crew runs through playoff rankings, surprising bracket matchups, and analyzes Heisman finalists. Additionally, they break down major coaching changes at Penn State, Iowa State, and Kentucky, and react to Utah's private equity move threatening the soul of college football. The episode rounds out with betting picks, FCS playoff shoutouts, and weather predictions for Army-Navy. This week's episode is loaded with drama, debates, and deep-dive reactions from a massive weekend across college football. We start with rapid-fire recaps from around the country — including Alabama vs. Georgia, Texas Tech vs. BYU, Duke vs. Virginia, and Ohio State vs. Indiana — plus Nick breaks out his three favorite OSU FG's of all time. Then we turn to the College Football Playoff rankings and the controversies they created. Did Notre Dame deserve a spot? Should Alabama have snuck in? And with two Group of 5 teams making the field, is this the new normal or a one-year fluke? We also react to the chaos in South Bend after the Notre Dame athletic director blasted the ACC and the Irish announced they're skipping their bowl game. Smart move or a terrible message? Next, we go bowl shopping. Outside the CFP, there are some legitimately great matchups on the slate — including Michigan vs. Texas in the Citrus Bowl, Iowa vs. Vanderbilt in the ReliaQuest Bowl, Boise State vs. Washington in the LA Bowl, Penn State vs. Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl, Georgia Tech vs. BYU in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, and a sneaky-good Arizona vs. SMU showdown in the Holiday Bowl. Finally, we close with Rick Neuheisel's bold prediction that bowl games will eventually become the first games of the season. Is he out of his mind… or ahead of the curve? It's playoff takes, bowl mania, and wall-to-wall college football — let's go.

Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to look at a wide array of college football, and USC-specific, topics after the announcement of the College Football Playoff participants and bowl game destinations as well as significant roster changes incoming for the Trojans following National Signing Day and the first wave of players announcing their intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun and Chris both railing on Notre Dame and its insolent decision to not participate in the Pop Tarts Bowl after being left out of the College Football Playoff. After the wild rants on the intolerable disrespect shown to one of our college football national treasures, the podcasters dive into 'Stock Up, Stock Down,' which they use as a jumping off point to discuss a variety of college football topics, including USC finishing with the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2026 recruiting cycle, the evolution of the college football bowl system and some familiar faces the Trojans have/will see. They also take an early look at the matchup between USC and TCU, who will meet in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on Dec. 30. After a break, the podcasters dive into some superlatives for the Trojans' No. 1-ranked 2026 recruiting class, including their picks for a Day 1 starter and favorite recruit as well as who will transform their body the most and who will be a star when it's all said and done. Chris and Shotgun follow with a dive into the players exiting the program, breaking down the future impact of the 11 players that have made it known they plan to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2. The podcast duo also answer your mailbag questions discussing basketball collapses, opt outs and Notre Dame scheduling. After some 'Take It or Leave It' questions for Shotgun, the episode concludes with Chris making Shotgun choose which bowl games to revive and which to keep dead. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back in a digital room together to break down USC's disappointing showing in a 34-23 loss to No. 13 Notre Dame in South Bend, extending the losing streak since 2011. Spratling spends his 'Two-Minute Drill' on him failing to see the Trojans win in South Bend and resigns to the fact that he may never get to see it. Trevino goes in another direction to discuss running into a Pop-Tarts Bowl rep on the sideline and making a fool out of himself. The Helium Boys dive into Stock Up, Stock Down, including Lincoln Riley's playcalling, the offensive line, the officials, kicker Ryon Sayeri, freshman wideout Tanook Hines and the mysterious "Ja'Kobi Dean." They also get a big update on the Stock Neutral debate. In the second half of the show, they take on some listener questions about offensive tackle Elijah Paige, the way Notre Dame defended Makai Lemon and USC's defensive game plan against the Fighting Irish. Shotgun spends the Overtime period giving his Trick or Treat thoughts while the hosts also listen to the scariest movies listeners saw as kids.
