Robyn Hadden was personal assistant to David Cassidy when he took over the starring role in EFX, the biggest show in Las Vegas in 1996. David replaced Michael Crawford who had hand-picked Robyn to be his personal assistant. She continued working in that role with David throughout his time in Vegas where he also was behind successful productions, At The Copa and The Rat Pack Is Back. When David returned to concerts, Robyn toured both the United States and the UK with him making lifelong friendships with many fans. Robyn had planned to be a pharmacist and explains her journey into the world of entertainment, later working in Special Events. She earned her Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) designation in 2000 and her Masters Degree from the University of Nevada in 2005. She served as Director of Alumni & College Relations at the UNLV College of Hospitality and continued her career at the Ohio State University where she was Associate Director (Special Events). In our amusing and, at times, emotional conversation, Robyn shares anecdotes from her years knowing David and explains why at 40 she decided to follow her dream of becoming a mother through IVF and an anonymous donor. She became mother to Jack in 2011, and later moved back to Ohio having met the love of her life. Ken Owen spent almost 20 years as a television news reporter and anchor. In 1994 he interviewed David via satellite when working at WISH (CBS) in Indianapolis, and speaks about the importance of that encounter. He breaks down his favourite Partridge Family music and David's solo work. He talks about his passion for the music since he was a boy, explains why he credits David with helping him emerge from a shy boy into a confident young man who went on to carve out a successful career in journalism. He observes how celebrity has changed and the culture of news reporting; offers a powerful argument why we shall never see a superstar like David Cassidy again and how his work should be remembered. Ken left television in 2001 to become Executive Director of Media Relations at DePauw University where he later became Special Advisor to the president. He hosted and continues to direct the University Ubben Lecture Series which brought a range of high-profile visitors including Bill Clinton, Tony Blair and Mikhail Gorbachev. We are all drawn to authentic people. We appreciate the inspiration and empowerment that spillover from those who dare to live authentic lives. Today’s show will encourage you to boot those limiting beliefs to the curb and live a life of authentic connection as you chase your dreams. Erin Hatzikostas spent her career “first half” working in the corporate world, where at the age of 42, she became the CEO of a $2 billion healthcare financial institution. In just three years, she tripled earnings and sent employee engagement skyrocket. Just when things were booming, she decided to walk away so that she could help solve what truly breaks her heart: the immense lack of authenticity and happiness in Corporate America. Through her company, b Authentic inc, Erin is provoking authenticity and enabling an army of people to crush their careers without compromising everything else. Erin is a career coach, prolific speaker, and edutainer. She also co-hosts an offbeat career and leadership podcast called b CAUSE with Erin & Nicole. The “sucky songs” we sing What are the hurdles to being authentic? Erin says the common thread is the “sucky songs” we tell ourselves. That’s her way of identifying the limiting beliefs and deep-rooted negativity that stop us. These beliefs may make sense in our minds, but they don’t feel right. Erin digs into these hurdles with clients to make them understand how they can inspire others. She teaches that inspiration is not a “river that runs in only one direction,” meaning that your authenticity can inspire those above AND below you. TWEET: Inspiration is not a river that runs in only one direction. @ErinHatzikostas @b_authentic_inc #chasingdreams A new authenticity How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected your authenticity? We see a new wave of authenticity as we interact with our bosses and coworkers in new and different ways than before. Erin says the challenge when we get through the pandemic will be in keeping the good parts of the new authentic environment and not slipping back into old habits, and she believes these changes will ultimately benefit women in the workplace. She gives examples of connections she’s made over Zoom during quarantine that wouldn’t have come about under normal circumstances. Erin reminds us that we have to plug into other people’s authenticity while realizing that our own version of authenticity is always changing. Keep in mind that it’s in discomfort that we grow the best. TWEET: Realize that our own version of authenticity is always changing. @ErinHatzikostas @b_authentic_inc #chasingdreams Your brand of authenticity How do you figure out what YOUR authenticity is? Erin says we need to listen to who and what other people say we are. Family background also plays into the development of our authenticity in growing our core values and discerning our purpose. Erin breaks it down by using the fourfold Japanese concept of ikigai, which shows what you’re good at, what you love to do, what the world needs, and what you can get paid for. She reminds us that doing what you love and getting paid don’t have to be mutually exclusive; they can be correlated. How would you live your life if there were no rules, if money wasn’t an issue, and if you weren’t afraid of anything? THAT is our topic for today because we are talking to someone who has the courage to find and follow her own path and not one that society dictates for her. Marci Nault has immeasurable enthusiasm, passion for fun, and a get-it-done attitude, no matter the situation. Her life can best be described as what would result if Marie Forleo and Tony Robbins partnered together on The Amazing Race. In the last six years, she has completed her entire bucket list of 101 dreams come true, all on a barista’s budget while increasing her net worth. She’s the author of The Lake House, has built and sold two companies, and is a real estate investor. Marci has been featured on The Huffington Post, CBS, ABC, Amped Radio, NPR, and more. She lives fearlessly and has accomplished many things, and she’s not done yet! The shocking moment that changed everything What do you want from this life? This was the question Marie asked herself as she watched her once-strong brother fight for his life in the hospital during an intense fight with MRSA infection. Her brother’s experience served as a wake-up call for new evaluation and a closer look at her life, which she calls “a mess.” Although she wasn’t sure how to start over, she realized that life can be gone in an instant and knew it was time to go after what SHE wanted for her life. She wondered, “If money wasn’t an issue; if I wasn’t afraid, and if I didn’t care what people think, what would I do? Where would I go? How would I live my life? Who would I want to become?” From these questions came her bucket list of 101 dreams come true. TWEET: “A bucket list life isn’t about checking things off, but infusing your dreams into yourself.” @DaretoDream #ChasingDreams A completely different person Could she ever go back to her old ways of living? She says there is absolutely no way because she has become a completely different person. Her confidence and health have soared. She realized that her bucket list was the road map to the life she was meant to live. Marci travels whenever she feels like it and trains and performs as a salsa dancer and figure skater. She just finished her second book. She confidently lives every single day as her “bucket list life.” It’s no surprise that she is always adding to the list those new things she wants to experience. She says, “Allow the magnificence of life to always come to you. Living your passions means that there is a place that lifts you up no matter what you face in life. Start with the small things. Fully experience life. Don’t just ‘collect’ the moment so you can post it.” TWEET: “Listen to what you’re doing in your life that doesn’t line up with your dreams.” @DaretoDream #chasingdreams What we need to change Life isn’t WHAT you do with your life, but HOW you live! We always want to put people in brackets according to their age, profession, accomplishments, etc. For kids, it’s all about what they want to be. In school, we are told to get it right and follow the path that we’re told to follow. Society has blocks that everyone thinks they have to fit into. We are asked, “What will you be: Who will you love? Where will you live?” Marci explains that people are uncomfortable being asked how they want to live because they’ve never been asked. It’s like we have never been given permission to “think outside the box,” but Marci says that it’s time to give yourself permission! TWEET: “My whole life revolves around going from one magnificent dream to the next.” @DaretoDream #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser--”Take the baby step. Go back to what you love to do or wanted to do before people told you that you couldn’t. Find that thing and take one little baby step toward it.” OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [:35] How Marci’s dream chase began [5:31] Living the Bucket List Life [8:25] The thought process in making the list [13:30] How our phones distract us from enjoying the moment [18:19] How people want to “consume” you [21:23] Life isn’t WHAT you do, but HOW you live [23:25] Why we don’t ask the most important question [26:00] Break up with the concept of age [32:00] Give yourself permission to mess up [34:05] Marci’s honest list [36:05] Start with the deep pleasure of life [39:07] ONE action for a dream chaser RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THE EPISODE: Marci’s Website The Lake House by Marci Nault Marci on Facebook Marci on Instagram Marci on Twitter Marci on LinkedIn www.bucketlistlifeplanner.com www.bucket-listlife.com TWEETS YOU CAN USE: TWEET: This world is the greatest playground you can ever imagine. Episode 30: David Archer is a an online and in-person fitness coach who's mission is to help countless people make changes in their physical health by increasing their energy, hormones, stamina and overall strength. A long time ago, David saw a great deficit in detail provided by mainstream fitness and nutrition. Out of this unsettling gap was born his company, Precision Fitness. Precision Fitness is, both in training protocol and nutrition, a more accurate and understandable gambit of information for the fitness fanatic who needs to understand more than simple reps + sets = volume. Coming straight from the mouth of David: "Mainstream fitness is littered with misconceptions and myths. However, there is a great deal more truthful information out there. Unfortunately, the task of aligning sound information for your goal is a difficult and extremely time-consuming task. The ability to funnel everything you do pertaining to fitness and nutrition should ultimately deliver a single message to your mind and body. That message is your goal. This is what you daydream of, read about and project to yourself each day. At Precision Fitness I’ve made it my mission to further education those willing to take the next logical fitness step and begin to treat their bodies with honest attention rather than pills, powders or diet fads that promise a quick fix in and unrealistic time frame." As you can see folks, he doesn't believe there are any shortcuts to real health. Here's some insight into what we discuss today: How David developed a passion for fitness and training The importance of being honest with yourself about WHY you want a change How to not assume unrealistic expectations The dangers of living in a "should be" world Enjoying the process and celebrating milestones along the way Understanding your environments (internal voice v. external noise) Loving yourself especially once you've reached your initial goal Scales suck Precision Nutrition's training protocol David's number one tip for strengthening the mind body connection [Tweet "Listen to this podcast for the "Top 5 Ways to Conquer the Biggest Health Mistakes""] And if you NEVER want to miss an episode, subscribe to this podcast in iTunes HERE (and please leave a review to let me know what you liked about the show!).
