Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) joins us this week for a candid conversation about his upbringing on film sets and how his competitive nature that couldn't get used anymore in the NFL helped him land a career changing role as Superman in Lois & Clark. Dean talks about the nerves and his edge during the audition process to become Superman, while taking an honest moment to share his experience with ‘the best Lois Lane' herself, Teri Hatcher. We also talk about cutting his teeth in Hollywood during his father's development of Young Guns, growing up mixed raced with a family that was in internment camps, and what it's like to have your friends find your mom in Playboy. This Christmas in July, we are joined by Adam Richard on a sleigh ride that flies right past the Marvel Cinematic Universe and lands on Margot Kidder's rooftop in 1978. Which is, it turns out, not a bad place to be. It's The Return of Doctor Mysterio. Notes and links Steven Moffat's clear inspiration here is Richard Donner's Superman: The Movie (1978), an astonishingly well-made and entertaining superhero movie starring Christopher Reeve as Clark and the wonderful Margot Kidder as Lois. If you haven't seen it, put your phone down at once and go and find a copy. In Episode 271: Eels with Jazz Hands, we mentioned the previous life of director Ed Bazalgette as a member of 1980s one-hit wonder The Vapors. The one hit in question was called Turning Japanese, and it was a massive thing at the time. The CW superhero shows Peter mentions are collectively called the Arrowverse, which started just a few years before this episode aired, and which included shows like Arrow (2012), The Flash (2014), Supergirl (2015) and Legends of Tomorrow (2016), featuring our very own Arthur Darvill. Ang Lee's unloved film Hulk (2003) liberally used comic book panels to transition between scenes (in a way far more sophisticated than what's attempted in this Doctor Who episode). This brief video will give you the idea. It was Adam's job to watch Series 10 of Doctor Who as a regular on the ABC's Doctor Who aftershow Whovians, which covered Series 10 to 12 and screened a day or so after each episode aired. Brendan mentions the Matt Fleischer animated Superman films from the 1940s, particularly the kinds of villains this version of Superman routinely fought. In the second film, The Mechanical Monsters (1941), Superman confronts a group of giant robots who rob banks and museums and inspire artists and filmmakers for generations. Go and watch it at once. Attractive Coal Hill Academy student Ram loses a leg in the first episode of the Doctor Who spin-off Class, which screened over eight weeks leading up to the start of December 2016. And then no one ever mentioned it or even thought about it ever again. Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993) was an insanely popular television show in the 1990s, starring Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane and featuring the incredibly beautiful Dean Cain as Clark. (He's a horrid alt-right nutcase these days, which is a grim warning to all of us, I suppose.) Follow us Nathan is on X as @nathanbottomley, Brendan is @brandybongos, and Adam is @adamrichard. It's first season came out early this year, under the title New Beginnings. Check it out. It will be back for a second season early in 2025. The Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire has broadcast our hot takes on every new episode of Doctor Who since November last year, and it will be back again in 2025 for Season 2. There's also Startling Barbara Bain, our Space: 1999 commentary podcast. We've covered the first five episodes of Series 1; Episode 6 should be out in the next couple of weeks. The Three Handed Game is a podcast on The Avengers and The New Avengers. In the most recent episode, Brendan, Richard and Steven watched an episode from Diana Rigg's first series, Two's a Crowd. Brendan's gaming podcast is called The Bjay BJ Game Show, and in its most recent episode, Brendan and Bjay visited some tilt-shifted Minecraft-inspired holiday destinations in The Touryst. And finally there's our Star Trek commentary podcast, Untitled Star Trek Project, featuring Nathan and friend-of-the-podcast Joe Ford. Last week, we visited the centre of the galaxy and met up with the Devil (who seemed nice) in an inexpensively produced episode of The Animated Series called The Magicks of Megas-Tu.

From Crisis to Crisis - The Married Years (A Superman and Lois Podcast)
Welcome to the two hundredth and sixty-ninth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! Actually…that's not true anymore. Welcome to the two hundredth and sixty-ninth episode of From Crisis to Crisis – The Married Years: A Superman and Lois Podcast! That's right. Now that Mike and Jeff have reached the actual, factual wedding (and now that the official feed for the show is changing) they felt that a change in title was in order. The show hasn't really changed. In fact, the numbering is the same, but something had to be done to mark that this momentous occasion has happened. This podcast still has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format. This is it, folks! Finally…Lois and Clark get hitched! Well, not right away. First Mike and Jeff have to talk about Superman #118, which is the issue right before the wedding. Lois Lane is in on the trail of a drug dealer and meets someone that takes her on a quest that leads her to realize that maybe she still has feelings for Clark. Meanwhile, Superman still doesn't have any powers and does some tests to see why that is. During the test Superman gets a pep talk from Wonder Woman. Then, in Superman: The Wedding Album #1, the very first Triangle Era Special, Lois and Clark reunite and after a tense conversation the engagement is back on and it's all about planning the ceremony. It's an all-star effort on the creative side and the boys cover the bachelor party, the bridal dinner, Lois picking out her dress, the search for a new apartment, the rehearsal dinner, Sam Lane acting like a jerk, and then…FINALLY…the wedding ceremony itself. After that, Mike and Jeff discuss the third episode of season four of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman titled Swear to God, This Time We're Not Kidding. It's the television wedding of Lois and Clark and the coverage of this one is much more positive than the last episodes of Lois and Clark. The boys even go easy on the “villain” of the episode. The From Crisis to Crisis love theme is by Lucian Desar. Other music in this episode includes Wagner Bridal Chorus Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com, Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License), and Wedding Music and Wedding Romantic, both by Paul Yudin via Pixabay. Welcome to the two hundredth and sixty-eighth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format. This time out Mike and Jeff look at the Superman related books that came out with a November 1996 cover date that weren't part of the Final Night event. Those books include Superman: The Man of Steel Annual #5, Superboy and the Ravers #3, Showcase '96 #10, Steel #32, and Justice League: A Midsummers Nightmare #3. After that they look at the first seven (or five, depending on how you want to look at it) episodes of Superman: The Animated Series, which premiered in September of 1996. Episodes discussed are The Last Son of Krypton Parts 1 thru 3, Fun and Games, A Little Piece of Home, Feeding Time, and The Way of All Flesh. For grins, they end their animated talk by chatting about the first issue of the tie-in comics Superman Adventures. Finally, they discuss Lord of the Flys and Battleground Earth, which are the first two episodes of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Season 4. Mike would like to take this opportunity to apologize to those listeners that like or love the two episodes of Lois and Clark discussed in this episode. Show notes provided by Jack Adrien For more than thirty-five years, author Michael Jan Friedman has built a successful career as a writer of more than 80 fiction and non-fiction franchise novelizations and expanded universe stories including Star Trek, Star Wars, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Predator, andAliens, some of which have appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list. Moreover, Friedman has written more than 150 comic books, mostly for DC Comics, but also for Image Comics and Marvel Comics, respectively. In 2019, Friedman created the genre-busting Empty Space graphic novel with Brazilian artist Caio Cacau. This bold epic is an exciting blend of the action, detective, horror, science-fiction, thriller, and western genres. Empty Space introduced Robinson Dark, an amnesiac hero finding his way through Friedman's expansive world building. Now five years later, Friedman returns to his space adventure universe with Empty Space: Betrayal, a soon to be released full-length prose sequel funded through Kickstarter, taking us deeper into the mystery of Robinson Dark's past and the world in which he tries to fit in. Join the Mint Condition crew as we welcome Friedman back as one of our fan favorite guests. We discuss the inspiration for Robinson Dark as the protagonist, how Friedman conceived of the Empty Space universe, and how he considers his Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign as not only a platform to connect directly with his fans, but also an opportunity to offer valuable rewards for their support. Take a look behind the scenes at what will make Empty Space: Betrayal a worthy successor to its prequel and what continues to inspire the man who created it. The boys talk with Mike about how he got into Superman, his early days working for Marvel, how he came to edit the Superman titles, how the Triangle method of storytelling came about, the Death and Return of Superman and so much more. He has had starring roles in two television series: as Hercules in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995–1999) and as Captain Dylan Hunt in Andromeda (2000–2005). In between his years playing Hercules, Sorbo played his first leading film role in the 1997 fantasy film Kull the Conqueror. Sorbo is also known for acting in Christian films such as God's Not Dead (2014) and Let There Be Light (2017). Early life and education[edit] Sorbo was born in Mound, Minnesota, on September 24, 1958.[1] He is of Norwegian descent.[2] He was raised in a Lutheran family.[3] Sorbo attended Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he double majored in marketing and advertising.[4] To help pay for tuition, he began to work as a model for print and television advertising.[5] Early work[edit] In the mid-1980s, Sorbo traveled around Europe and Australia working in television commercials and also modeling for print advertisements. During this period, he made his acting debut in an episode of the soap opera Santa Barbara in 1986. He continued working in advertising and by the early 1990s, he had appeared in over 150 commercials. One of the popular commercials he appeared in was for Jim Beam bourbon whiskey, known for Sorbo's repeated catchphrase, "This ain't Jim Beam".[6] He made guest appearances in television series such as 1st & Ten, Murder She Wrote, and The Commish. In 1992, he played his first leading role in an unsuccessful television pilot for a medical drama series titled Condition: Critical, which was not picked up, but aired as a television film on ABC. He was considered for and lost out to Dean Cain as Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and was one of the possible contenders for the role of Fox Mulder in The X-Files, which went to David Duchovny.[7][8][9][10] In 1993, he made his film debut in Slaughter of the Innocents.[11] Professional breakthrough with Hercules[edit] In 1993, Sorbo received his breakthrough leading role as the ancient greek demigod Hercules in a series of five television films that aired as part of Universal Television's Action Pack.[12] The first film to premiere was Hercules and the Amazon Women, which aired in April 1994, the others following later in the year. The ratings success of the films paved the way for the commission of the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, which started airing in syndication from January 1995 and ran for six seasons. The series made Sorbo an international star and was one of the highest rated syndicated television shows at the time.[13][better source needed] The success of the show spawned the popular spin-off series Xena: Warrior Princess starring Lucy Lawless, who was introduced in a three-episode arc in the first season of Hercules. This allowed several characters from both shows to make crossover appearances. In 1998, a spin-off direct-to-video, animated film titled Hercules and Xena – The Animated Movie: The Battle for Mount Olympus was released with both Sorbo and Lawless voicing the characters.[14] Hercules was canceled midway through the filming of Season Six, of which only eight episodes were produced. The final episode aired in November 1999.[15] Although it was not revealed at the time, health issues reduced Sorbo's abilities to perform the physically demanding role during the later seasons.[16] Sorbo made his final appearance as Hercules on Xena, in the Season Five episode "God Fearing Child", which aired in February 2000. In between his years playing Hercules, Sorbo played his first leading film role in the 1997 film Kull the Conqueror. In a mostly negative review, The New York Times writes, "Mr. Sorbo provides the requisite oiled torso, a hint of humor and the professionalism and good grace to act as if Kull the Conqueror mattered."[17] Post-Hercules work[edit] After Hercules ended, Sorbo played the starring role of Captain Dylan Hunt in the science-fiction drama series Andromeda from 2000 to 2005. In 2006, he played a recurring role on the final season of The O.C. In 2007, he starred in two direct-to-video sequels to Walking Tall, Walking Tall: The Payback and Walking Tall: Lone Justice. In the Hallmark Channel film Avenging Angel, he co-starred with his real wife, Sam Jenkins. In the 2008, he appeared in the spoof film titled Meet the Spartans, which was a box office success despite poor reviews.[18][19] Sorbo in 2013In the first of what would be several voice acting jobs, Sorbo performed one of the main protagonists, Prometheus, in the video game The Conduit.[20] He also reprised the role of Hercules in the video game God of War III and worked together with his wife on the game Cloudberry Kingdom.[21] In 2014, Sorbo co-starred in God's Not Dead, a Christian film in which he portrayed an atheist college professor who requires his students to disown their religions on the first day of his class.[22] Although heavily panned by critics, it was a commercial success and the first of a sequence of Christian films that Sorbo would produce or perform.[23][24][25] Sorbo appeared in the 2015 romantic comedy Single in South Beach, starring Haley Webb. On Twitter, in 2019, she accused Sorbo of sexual advances and of sexually harassing her on the set. However, Webb did not elaborate on any of her accusations, and he did not respond to her tweet.[26][27] In 2017, Sorbo directed and starred in the Christian drama film Let There Be Light, which featured conservative pundit Sean Hannity, who was also an executive producer. It was described by the New Yorker as "a cynical, xenophobic morality tale, as bitter as it is saccharine" that closes with "a dénouement of bald Islamophobia".[28][29] The Los Angeles Times, although critical, says that it provides "an involving bonanza" for its intended Christian audience. Sorbo is described as bringing "puckish charm and credible warmth to his role".[30] In 2023, he is set to appear in the Ronald Reagan biopic opposite Dennis Quaid who plays the title role.[31]
Scott Valentine is best remembered for his role as Justine Bateman's not-so-smart artist boyfriend Nick Moore on the hit NBC sitcom "Family Ties," playing the character from 1985 to 1989. A spinoff show, "The Art of Being Nick," failed to ignite any interest and only the pilot episode was ever aired. Beyond "Family Ties," Valentine has starred in a number of straight-to-video movies and theatrical features, including the supernatural rom-com "My Demon Lover," the sex-crime docudrama "Without Her Consent," and the mutant-baby horror "The Unborn II." He has guest starred on a number of television shows as well-the HBO anthology show "The Hitchhiker," "Midnight Caller" (starring Gary Cole),"Walker, Texas Ranger," and the forensics procedural "CSI.: NY," among others. An appearance on the '90s take on the Man of Steel,"Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," coupled with a contribution to the celebrated "Batman: The Animated Series," prompted Valentine to pursue further superhero-centered voice work on such animated series as "Iron Man" and "Batman Beyond."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
Ampersand Month concludes with an episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman called "Ghosts." Newly married Lois and Clark are settling into their new brownstone when a neighbor decides to sell her house due to a persistent haunting. Soon, the Kents themselves experience a specter. Clark suspects a more mundane reason for the problem, but Lois takes the ghost at her word. Meanwhile, a real estate hustler who owes the local Irish mob a lot of money tries to steer the ghost toward his own ends. Will he succeed or will Lois outsmart everyone? Oh, and the episode features special guests as the hustler and the ghost. Erik discovers episode director Robert Ginty also starred in the fabulously cheesy movie Warrior of the Lost World. He and Justin consider the difference between good, important films and movies to be enjoyed with repeat viewings. Comic book discussions abound with Justin recalling how he indoctrinated someone to superhero comics, the earliest comic book storyline Erik read, and an appreciation of artist Jim Aparo. The pair pitch a Doc Savage movie with Tom Hardy and Rahul Kohli. Dean Cain continues to get the ribbing he deserves while other Superman actors get praise. Erik and Justin differ on Teri Hatcher's Lois Lane and Barry Allen ruins Iris's chances to be a dependable private eye.

Welcome to the first episode of It All Comes Back to Superman Series Two, the pretty much the same, not really all that new reaffirmation of my Kryptonian faith. I am your host, Michael Bailey, and this time out I am starting a two part series celebrating Superman's 85th anniversary because...I really want to. It's just that simple. For this first installment I do an off the cuff solo episode where I talk about six of the sub-anniversaries happening during Superman's 85th. Superman The Movie, Superman III, the Ruby Spear Superman animated series, the live action Superboy series, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and Man of Steel all have big anniversaries this year and I thought it would be fun to go through them all in one shot instead of devoting specific episodes to them for...reasons. Various reasons. Reasons I go through during the episode itself. I mentioned during the episode that I had done a commentary for Superman The Movie back in 2013. That was on episode 153 of Views From The Longbox, which I don't have a handy link to...sadly...because the post with the show notes for that episode no longer exists. Views is readily available on just about all podcatching services, so it should be easy to find. For those interested, episode 155 of Views was a commentary for Superman II and episode 162 was the commentary for Superman IV that I did with Scott Gardner. Not to be outdone, if you search for episode 135 of the Palace of Glittering Delights where Andy Leyland had me on to yak over the "coherence cut" of Superman IV. Feedback for It All Comes Back To Superman Series Two can be sent to itallcomesbacktosuperman@gmail.com. You can subscribe to the show on Apple Podcasts/iTunes or stream it through Spotify and Audible. The Fortress of Baileytude Podcasting Network is on Patreon. It's mostly a tip jar as I have no time at the moment to produce exlcusive content, but if you like the content I do produce please consider contributing a dollar a month. The opening and closing theme to the show is titled Journey and was composed by Pontus Rufelt. It is licensed from Shockwave-Sound. Next Time: The second part of Happy Anniversary, Superman!

Baseball legend Yogi Berra was not only a favorite of the author because of his great baseball skills and accomplishments but also for his unique sayings, commonly known as Yogi-isms. Some memorable Yogi-isms include: "When you come to a fork in the road, take it." "You can observe a lot by just watching.""No one goes there nowadays, it's too crowded." However, the most quoted Yogi-ism is "It's like déjà vu all over again," which the author believes applies to the current financial situation. While the author does not believe that the current economic crisis is a repeat of 2008, it does resemble the stagflation that affected the country from the mid-1970s to the early 1990s, a period of high inflation, mortgage rates, and unemployment that lasted around 15 years. The author wishes that someone had advised them to buy gold in 1971 when they graduated from high school, as it has since increased from $44 to over $2,000 per ounce. The author hopes that viewers in their 20s and 30s will take their words to heart. Episode Notes Join us we dive into the mind of 80's heart throb Scott Valentine Aka Nick from Family Ties. He'll take us on his journey from Hollywood to Red Coral Universe. Scott Valentine was born and raised in Saratoga Springs, New York and first discovered acting at age five doing plays in his parents' garage. He appeared in a few high school plays, but didn't pursue acting as a career until his second semester of college. He moved to New York City and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where he completed the school's three-year program in a year and a half. He held a few odd jobs such as short order cook and researcher for a publishing firm, and he won a few roles off-off Broadway. He signed a contract for a daytime soap and was about to screen test for a role in the feature film, "Lords of Discipline" but was accidently hit by a truck on September 17, 1981. After three years of convalescing, he left New York for Los Angeles where he landed the part of Nick Moore on the hit series, Family Ties Now you can show your support by purchasing FB stars. He completed the three-year program in one and a half years. He got as far as a screen test for the film The Lords of Discipline when he was hit, run over, and dragged by a truck on September 17, 1981 and his career was halted for three years as he recovered. He moved to Los Angeles and landed a recurring role on the TV series Family Ties as Nick Moore, the loveable but dim-witted boyfriend of Mallory Keaton from 1985 to 1989, for seasons 4 through 7. During an interview for Montreal radio station CJAD, Valentine thought the role was not challenging enough for the money he was receiving, saying: "I'm so glad I went to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and to all the other fine acting institutions so I could grunt on primetime television. The primal dig, the date from hell. It was a lot of fun, but literally there were times where I only had to utter two guttural utterances in a show and they paid me a bundle of cash for it. I felt bad at times. Valentine's success as Nick Moore on Family Ties led to three separate spin-offs. The first starred Valentine and actor Herschel Bernardi called Taking It Home. Filming was canceled when Bernardi died in 1986. The second spin-off placed Valentine's character in a Friends-like environment in New York City. The third was a pilot episode for a spin-off titled The Art of Being Nick; the episode aired once and co-starred Julia Louis-Dreyfus. "It came in number two and they still didn't pick it up," recalled Valentine. He has appeared since then as a guest actor in several hit television series such as CSI: NY, NewsRadio, and JAG; his first major motion picture, My Demon Lover; and numerous TV and straight-to-video movies. He also voiced The Phantom in Phantom 2040. He portrayed Metallo in an episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman TV series. Valentine is a partner in Excelsior Capital Partners, a boutique investment firm that focuses on the renewable and sustainable energy sector.[ Find out more at https://still-toking-with.pinecast.co

The film stars Linda Purl, Nancy Stafford, Ryan O'Quinn, Shari Rigby, Josef Cannon and Dean Cain."Paul's Promise" is the debut project to be released under the newly-announced Damascus Road multi-picture pact with film executive, producer and financier Mike Ilitch, Jr., who has committed to a slate of films, many already in the production and distribution process, with a broad forthcoming slate to also soon be announced."Inspiring audiences through entertainment has always been a goal for our companies," said Ilitch. His childhood best friend Jimmy Lipkin approached Paul for a handshake, but Holderfield put his hands in his back pockets and refused to shake Lipkin's hand.Later convicted by his actions, Holderfield told his wife Barbara that he would never again treat a human being that way. Ultimately, Holderfield started Friendly Chapel and F.L.A.M.E. (Feeding and Loving All Men Equally) to help others and spent the rest of his life giving back to anyone in need. As he put it: "We came into the neighborhood when they did not want us and stayed until they could not do without us."Fully dedicated to meeting people's needs, Holderfield built an organization that has been serving others for 30+ years, meeting the nutritional (through a soup kitchen/food pantry) emotional, physical (clothing, shelter), spiritual and health needs of others 24/7, 365 days a year."'Paul's Promise' shares the hope and healing of Holderfield's life during a troubled time in our Nation's history," says Executive Producer Nick Logan. This week/weekend I'm coming at you with a few recommendations on what to watch on four different Streaming Platforms. Over on Disney+ we have a great remake/reboot series that is vey new and still barking out some episodes, Turner & Hooch. Over on HBOMAX we have a Throwback Series that I haven't seen in a long time, but just stayed as clever and fun as I remember watching it for the first time, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Swinging over to Paramount+ we have a HUGE back-catalog of Movies and Shows but the show I recommend to you is anyone who loves Star Trek, Star Trek: Lower Decks. The jokes and cameos are as outrageous as the tribbles are cuddly. And finally, on Peacock I tell you all about a very cool and very soap opera-ie adventure show that premiered literally over 20 years ago and I dare say, it STILL HOLDS UP. Give this a listen and find out what exactly that final show is. Thank you all for listening and stay tuned for some Marvel's What If...? talk happening very soon. Until then we're...
