Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast dives deep into BAAZIGAR (1993) starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol for its 78th episode. Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast has taken its time, but we’ve finally arrived at the film that forever changed the Hindi film industry: 2001’s DIL CHAHTA HAI. Our very last CoronaCast episode before our return to the regular schedule has us catching up after nearly a month. In the meantime, Sujoy and Amrita collaborated with Beth from Beth Loves Bollywood for the Tolly Folly Podcast (https://audioboom.com/channel/upodcast--bollywood-edition)   a limited series about the classic Bengali movies of Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. Tolly Folly, our limited run podcast about Bengali film, anchored by Sujoy, Beth, and Amrita, concludes with this third episode featuring two separate performances by Suchitra Sen in AANDHIi and Uttam Kumar in NAYAK. Aandhi (1975) is counted as one of the most successful films helmed by Gulzar and is frequently lauded for the leading performances by Suchitra and Sanjeev Kumar. The movie was a controversial fictionalized take on the life of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and spoke about the difficulties faced by women with ambition in a patriarchal society.  Nayak (1966) was a rare Uttam collaboration with Satyajit Ray and is a meditation on celebrity. One of the finest films ever made, Nayak remains relevant to this day and features an incredible performance by Uttam. Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast is back to the CoronaCast with Episode 64. Unfortunately, this episode was recorded just as news broke about Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic passing, so while we do mention it, we’ll have a more in-depth discussion of the fallout in our next episode. Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast’s 63rd episode proves to be the charm with Shahrukh Khan’s iconic KABHI HAAN KABHI NAA (1994).  If “wholesome" was a movie, it would be this film by Kundan Shah. Reportedly SRK’s own favorite out of his many films, this is a film that has stood the test of time. Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast is now on it’s 62nd episode… and we’re once again doing a Corona round up. For those of you struggling with all the current events in the world and need a break, we suggest you skip the first 10 minutes because we’re not in the best of moods to be honest.    However! We soon move on to discussing the latest Red Chillies Production for Netflix: BETAAL. Sujoy is happy to report that it continues a long and proud Red Chillies tradition by being absolutely mediocre.    Asim broke character to watch KAMYAAB, another Red Chillies effort for Netflix that isn’t entirely awful. It is definitely the better reviewed project of the two.    After that gargantuan effort, Asim needed a little cheering up so he obviously looked up KAALA BAZAAR (1989), starring Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. This is a segue onto our discussion about Jackie, an actor whose work we grew up watching but never discuss for some reason. Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast sails on to its 61st episode with Shahrukh Khan’s PARDES (1997).
