Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji, celebrated for her recent roles in films like No One Killed Jessica and Mardaani, is in advanced talks to lead Shonali Bose's upcoming family drama. According to sources, Mukerji has been reviewing scripts for two years and feels a strong connection with Bose's project, which is set to begin filming in September 2024. Junglee Pictures, known for hits like Talvar and Raazi, will produce the film, aiming for a 2025 release. Following this, Mukerji is expected to work on Mardaani 3, the next instalment in her successful franchise with Yash Raj Films.

After just 15 minutes into Bunty Aur Babli 2, one realises what a terribly written and poorly-executed film it is. The original, which most of us so thoroughly enjoyed when it first released 16 years ago, was best left untouched and director Varun V. Sharma should have just followed this rule. With Rani Mukherji reprising her character as Vimmi, this sequel is nothing like the first one. Not even remotely close. It's a snooze-fest that fails to engage or entertain. And sadly, doesn't have any punches to keep you from dozing off. Bunty Aur Babli 2 never gains momentum that you want to see in a comedy. Sharma tries too hard to ingest references from the original and he barely gets them right. The narrative is sloppy and juvenile to say the least.

It's a clever setup with enough potential to create a franchise, but the real downer is that the film wastes its younger pair – Siddhant Chaturvedi and debutant Sharvari Wagh. Watch the full review to know more.

Mardaani 2 is a compelling watch that makes you uncomfortable time and again but stays with you for a long time. Written and directed by Gopi Puthran with Rani Mukerji in the lead role, the edge-of-the-seat thriller packs a punch and evokes the desired angst in you, as it highlights the gruesome crimes against women and also delves deeper into issues such as women safety, gender inequality and misogyny. Superintendent of police, Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani Mukerji) is out to capture a criminal (Vishal Jethwa) who rapes young women in a fit of rage before cruelly murdering them. The trouble is, he is always one step ahead of the cops, playing a cat-and-mouse game on his own terms. Mardaani 2 is not the first film to bring heinous crimes under the spotlight but it manages to tap into social consciousness given its timing. As the nation seethes after the horrendous rape and murder of a doctor in Hyderabad and its aftermath, the film once again takes us back to the brutality of such crimes and how we need a firm solution. Though it’s not for the weak hearted, it’s definitely a story that needs to be told repeatedly till these crimes stop.

Mardaani 2, the sequel to the intense cop drama starring Rani Mukerji, is a ‘women-centric’ Bollywood movie dealing with sexual violence. This got the team thinking about depictions of sexual violence and rape on-screen — can it ever be authentic and sensitive?

Rani Mukerji's debut Bollywood feature Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat was released 23 years ago, and, getting nostalgic about the film, the actress recalled the incidence when her father underwent bypass surgery on the day of films release.

Ahead of the release of her next film Hichki, actress Rani Mukerji speaks to film students about her career in the movies that spans over 21 years. She speaks about how she keeps herself updated as an actor and still works at honing her craft.
