A brand of camera that we've talked quite a bit about on this show is Pentax, but in every episode where this brand came up, the same book and author gets brought up as a great resource for screw mount Pentax and Takumar lenses, which is "The Ultimate/Definitive Asahi Pentax Collector's Guide 1952-1977" by Gerjan van Oosten. While this is a great book to read, this is a podcast, so we like to talk to people, so for Episode 75, rather than continue to talk about a book, we went straight to the source and got the book's author, Gerjan van Oosten to join us! For this episode, we were missing Theo, but joining Anthony, Paul, Mike, and Gerjan are returning callers Patrick Casey and Wannes Scheipers. Gerjan discusses some of his least favorite Takumar lenses, backwards compatibility of Takumar lenses, what's so special about the 8-element Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4 lenses, why the Spotmatic doesn't actually have a spot meter, what Honeywell had to do with Pentax, export market cameras like the Asahiflex H2 and Asahi Pentar, and a fun discussion about a prototype camera called the Pentax Metalica. In addition to Pentax camera and lens GAS, we get into discussions about why so many early SLRs had 58mm lenses, a little bit of Nikon history, Anthony's recent habit of breaking into churches, shooting the Horseman Convertible, and Mike's thoughts on the Leica M5. Gerjan covers his book and that there's three editions of the camera, all with significant changes from the earlier versions. Only the latest 2023 edition is currently for sale direct from him, so if you're interested in buying this excellent book straight from him, he sells them direct on eBay at the following link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/335212596808 We had a lot of fun recording this episode, but we will be taking a break from new shows for a little while. Although we have some ideas for future shows, nothing is planned at the moment, nor do we know when the next episode will be recorded, so be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, the Camerosity Discord server, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. The US Under 20 Tackle Football team got BLOWN OUT by Japan yesterday. Connor cancels Gen Z once and for all after hearing the news.
The relationship between the leaders of nation-states and the gatekeepers of sporting mega-events is both powerful and complex. Organisations, such as FIFA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), have revenues in the billions of dollars and are supranational. They have a disproportionate and troubling degree of political power. Much has been written about the environmental and human rights disaster of the men's football World Cup in Qatar as finally being a step too far in terms of host selection. However, evidence suggests that this was an almost inevitable outcome of systemic problems within FIFA. To talk us through this, it's a pleasure to be joined by Jules Boykoff, Professor of political science at Pacific University in Oregon, USA. He is the author of five books on the politics of sports mega-events, most recently, ‘The 1936 Berlin Olympics: Race, Power, and Sportswashing'. He is also a former professional footballer, having represented the US Under-23 Men's National Team so he has seen how these events work from all angles. You can also see the recording of our interview at https://youtu.be/yjskkjE8JjA with some additional visual information. Please feel free to reach out to the show onWeb: sustainingsport.comInstagram: @sustainingsportLinkedin: /sustaining-sportFacebook: @sustainingsportTwitter: @SustainSportPodDonate to our Patreonor contact us at: benmole@sustainingsport.com

Who I am is not about my achievements. Who I am is what's inside. - Ingrid Marcum What I am supposed to do with my life now that I'm no longer an athlete? Please leave us a review at http://reviewourpodcast.com Join our Open Sky Fitness Podcast Facebook Group! Do the 7 Day Pal From high school and college to professional athletes, that is a question many people find them themselves asking as they adjust to the idea that athletic competition is no longer the center of their life. This week, we have multi-sport athlete, speaker, educator, strength & conditioning coach, and movement specialist, Ingrid Marcum aka The Iron Valkyrie, sharing her own experience and how she discovered her own value and confidence during the ongoing process. As Rob speaks to Ingrid about her life as an athlete, she opens up about what it was truly like to retire from athletics and start a new path in life. But it's not that easy; this is something that she is still working on and wants to help people who are facing a similar obstacle. Not only is Ingrid's experience a common sensation for athletes but we can all relate to it via other scenarios such as being new parents, being older parents who are now empty nesters, starting a new to a job, getting ready to retire, preparing to leave the military forces or any other big transition we experience in our lives. In this episode, you will learn: Ingrid's own transition to find her true identity after ending her athletic career by doing the inner work. The power of focusing on what can you do while in the midst of struggle and setbacks. How to change your negative mindset to one accepting reality and dealing with it the best that you can. Why it takes time to discover and accept who you really are as a person. How to compete at a high level and still have a blast with it while not taking yourself too seriously. The process of being happy with where you are in life right now. Breathing for Performance Contact Ingrid here with questions or to request more information on working with her Focused breathing work is often overlooked as a key to performance. I only learned about incorporating breathing techniques toward the end of my athletic career, but have found it to be extremely helpful for myself, my athletes and my clients. Most athletes and people, in general, have altered breathing mechanics that can affect them in various ways. But efficient breathing plays a role in mobility, stability, ability to focus, concentrate and deal with stress in addition to contributing to recovery and sleep! I hope you find these tips as valuable as I have in training myself and my athletes and clients! Feel free to contact me with questions or to learn more about how you can work with me - I’m available for seminars, workshops & speaking engagements as well as a limited number of direct individual movement work, either in person or online. About Ingrid Marcum As Ingrid traveled the world training and competing as a multi-sport athlete, she was fortunate enough to build a career helping others reach their own fitness and athletic goals.
